Oxidized triacylglycerols (OxTGs) formed during frying degrade oil quality and raise safety concerns. To resolve oxygen provenance under frying-like conditions, a dual hydrogen–oxygen stable-isotope tracing design (D 2 O, H 2 18 O, 18 O 2 ) was applied to triolein heated at 180 °C for 0–4 h under 3 atm: natural air (NA) + H 2 O, synthetic air (SA)– 16 O 2 + H 2 18 O, and SA– 18 O 2 + D 2 O. Diagnostic fragment ions revealed five triacylglycerols and eight OxTGs dominated by hydroperoxide (–OOH) and hydroxyl (–OH) functionalities, while isotopologue ratios (M+1–M+4)/M quantified label incorporation. Pronounced enrichment occurred only under SA– 18 O 2 + D 2 O, particularly for hydroxylated OxTGs; ratios remained comparatively stable in NA + H 2 O and SA– 16 O 2 + H 2 18 O, consistent with water acting primarily as a kinetic modulator of hydroperoxide turnover and interfacial processes rather than as a direct oxygen donor to OxTGs.The labeling pattern demonstrates that oxygen incorporated into OxTGs derives primarily from molecular oxygen (O 2 ). Mechanistically grounded process controls that limit oxygen availability—such as vacuum or otherwise deaerated frying—are therefore expected to suppress OxTG formation. For decision-ready surveillance and oil-turnover management, an integrated indicator panel is recommended, combining total polar compounds (TPC), sentinel glycerol-core aldehydes (e.g., 9-oxo/10-oxo species), and representative –OOH/–OH OxTGs. Collectively, these findings clarify OxTG formation pathways and provide a practicable basis for risk-informed quality and safety control of frying oils.

Polymorphs of energetic materials generally exhibit distinct features, such as density, thermal stability, sensitivity, and detonation performance. These features are important in determining the appropriate applications of a given polymorph. To understand the thermal stability of new high explosive 4,4′,5,5′-tetranitro-1H,1′H- [2,2′-biimidazole]-1,1′-diamine (DATNBI), we systematically investigated its polymorphic transition (PT) under thermal stimulation and discovered a novel stable γ form of DATNBI. The results showed that the solid-solid PT path was β → α → γ . In this study, the three polymorphs of DATNBI were prepared through solvent recrystallization, and their PT processes in solution were explored. Crystal structure analysis of γ -DATNBI suggested that its special cross-cross grid crystal packing may be the main reason for its stable existence at room temperature and its lack of PT process before chemical decomposition, which starts at 240 °C. To further explore the PT process of DATNBI, the solid phase transition mechanism of DATNBI was analyzed using non-isothermal kinetics. The results demonstrated that the two high-temperature PT processes— β → α and α → γ —were not single-step reactions but complex multi-step reactions. The PT activation energy of the β → α process was slightly higher than that of the α → γ process. In addition, the influences of different polymorphs on the performance of DATNBI were explored. The results revealed that safety and detonation performance should decrease as a result of the incorporation of γ -DATNBI. This study contributes to understanding the PT behavior and the crystal structure evolutionary mechanism of DATNBI. This study provides practical support for formula design, process condition selection, and thermal stability evaluation of DATNBI explosives.

The colouration of silk fibroin through a Mannich-type reaction with aromatic primary amine-containing dyes ( APAD s), named Mannich-type dyeing, is a novel dyeing method with the advantages of moderate conditions, high selectivity, and high wet fastness. In this study, three novel APAD s, including an H acid structure, D1 - D3 , were designed and synthesized. A similar dye, C1 , without an aromatic primary amine group, was selected as the control. Their spectral and colour fastness properties in aqueous solutions and on silk fabrics were measured and evaluated. In addition, their Mannich-type reactivity to silk fabric was evaluated via experiments and simulated calculations. It was revealed that for the H acid-containing dye with the same chromosome structure, the electron accepting/donating properties of the diazo and coupling components affect the colour of the dye after the Mannich-type dyeing. The substituent effect of dyes C1 – D3 demonstrated that with the changing properties of electron donation and acceptance in the case of the diazonium component, the absorption spectrum ( λ max ) of the neutral aqueous dye solution changed from reddish-orange (505 nm) to bluish-violet (541 nm). The λ max of Mannich-type dyed fabrics was generally red-shifted in comparison with that of dyed fabrics by acidic dyeing, which implied the formation of a reactive bond between the dye and the silk fibroin. The presence of aromatic primary amine groups in dyes is the prerequisite for Mannich-type reactivity. The primary amine groups on both benzene and naphthalene rings have Mannich-type reactivity, which is related to the electron cloud density of amino N atoms. With the increase in electron cloud density of the amino N atom, the colour fixation of the dye and the fibre was improved. After the Mannich-type dyeing, the colour fastness of the dyed fabrics and DMF stripping resistance significantly improved, also indicating the formation of a covalent bond between the dye and the fibre. The simulated calculation predicted the colour of APAD in an aqueous solution and on dyed silk fabric after Mannich-type dyeing, which guides the design and enrichment of APAD s’ chromatography .

Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 , CN) is promising in boosting H 2 O 2 photosynthesis at present, but facing huge challenges due to the limitations of common CN (e.g. small specific surface area, low absorption coefficient, and fast recombination of photoinduced carriers). To overcome these drawbacks, herein, the novel type-II heterojunctions are successfully constructed from hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN, abbreviated as BN), melamine, and KCl with the one-pot calcination method. The molten salt effect of KCl and the hard template effect of BN optimize the interlayer spacing, porosity and structural uniformity of CN, thus optimizing the adsorption and photocatalytic properties. Moreover, the constructed heterostructure between BN and modified CN further favors the photoinduced charge transfer. Hence, the resulting composites afford exciting photocatalytic H 2 O 2 synthesis performance. Particularly, catalyzed by MCN/BN-2, the H 2 O 2 production rate is separately 1515.05 μmol g −1 h −1 and 3382.17 μmol g −1 h −1 irradiated by visible light and the simulated solar light, which are significantly higher than those over MCN, BN, and most of CN-based materials previously reported. The results of band potential analyses, relevant radical scavenging experiments, as well as electron paramagnetic resonance measurements verify that the photocatalytic H 2 O 2 production over MCN/BN-2 by using 10 vol% EtOH solution is predominantly through the two-step single-electron oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) process. Also, the one-step two-electron ORR involves in H 2 O 2 formation. This work not only develops a novel broad-spectrum responsive metal-free photocatalyst, but also enriches the deep understanding of the roles played by molten salt engineering and heterostructure in photocatalysis.

Single-atom catalysts (SACs) hold great promise for the
electrochemical
reduction of CO 2 to CO; however, the high selectivity is
typically restricted within a narrow potential window, limiting their
practical implementation. In this study, Ni–N–C catalysts
were supported on ordered and disordered carbon nanofiber membranes
(denoted as o-NiNC and d-NiNC, respectively) via electrospinning to
elucidate the effect of nanofiber alignment on CO 2 reduction
activity. The results demonstrate that o-NiNC catalysts allow for
spatially uniform H + /CO 2 delivery and consumption,
thereby mitigating the selectivity variations arising from uneven
spatial distribution of reactants. As a result, the o-NiNC catalysts
achieve a CO Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 98.5% at −1.0 V and
maintain an FE above 90% across a broad potential range (−0.6
to −1.6 V). This work provides new insights into the rational
design of high-performance CO 2 reduction electrocatalysts
through geometric engineering.

Photocatalytic water splitting is a promising approach for sustainable green hydrogen production, but its practical deployment is severely hindered by two critical limitations: mandatory H 2 /O 2 separation and the requirement for high-pressure hydrogen storage facilities. To address this long-standing bottleneck, a Ru-TiO 2 /Ti 2 C heterostructured photocatalyst is fabricated via a combined hydrothermal and ball-milling route. Operando spectroscopy and DFT calculations verify a cascade charge and hydrogen transfer pathway: photogenerated electrons migrate from TiO 2 to metallic Ru sites to drive water dissociation into surface H* intermediates, which then spillover onto the Ti 2 C substrate. Owing to the strong atomic hydrogen affinity of Ti 2 C, accumulated H* is immobilized in the Ti 2 C lattice via Ti-H covalent bonds, achieving in-situ atmospheric-pressure hydrogen storage. The optimized composite exhibits an in-situ hydrogen storage capacity of 2.1 wt% at ambient temperature and pressure, with a markedly reduced desorption temperature of 216°C and excellent cycling durability. This work establishes an integrated paradigm of photocatalytic water splitting and low-pressure hydrogen storage, offering a feasible strategy to resolve the inherent H 2 /O 2 separation dilemma and advance the practical application of solar-driven hydrogen production.

As an effective sensitizer for chemiresistive hydrogen (H 2 ) sensors, the practical application of Palladium (Pd) is limited by the Sabatier principle, where intrinsically strong Pd─H binding leads to sluggish desorption kinetics and prolonged response and recovery time. A high-entropy alloying strategy was proposed to tailor the local coordination and electronic structure of Pd active sites and weaken the Pd─H binding. Pd x (FeCoNiCu) 1− x ( x = 0.05–0.35)high-entropy alloys (HEAs) were synthesized as sensitizers for SnO 2 to improve its H 2 sensing reactivity, especially its response and recovery rate. Pd 0.2 (FeCoNiCu) 0.8 -SnO 2 sensor exhibits short response and recovery time (0.6 s/2.0 s), a high response of 18.8 toward 100 ppm H 2 (4.06 times higher than Pd-SnO 2 ), a practical detection limit of 1 ppm and a long-term stability (>90% retention over 50 days). The working window of the sensor is also wider, which exhibits a linear response in both low (20–120 ppm) and high (4000–20 000 ppm) H 2 concentration ranges. Experimental analysis and theoretical calculation attribute this performance to the downshift of the Pd d -band center (from −1.84 to −2.57 eV). The electronic modulation alleviates the strong binding of hydrogen intermediates, thus leading to ultrafast response and recovery without compromising sensitivity.

The selective oxidation of CH4 to C2 oxygenates under mild conditions is a significant pathway for CH4 valorization, yet it remains extremely challenging due to the inertness of methane, the competing overoxidation, and sluggish C–C coupling kinetics. Here, we show that the N,S co-doped carbon nanotube-supported Fe5 clusters catalyst (Fe5/NSC) with adjacent Fe sites drives sequential C–H activation and C–C coupling to ethanol with a C2H5OH productivity of 1939.6 μmol·gcat–1·h–1 and a selectivity of 83.9% at 25 °C and 0.5 MPa CH4 without the assistance of CO. Comprehensive experimental investigation and density functional theory calculations reveal the critical role of adjacent Fe sites in the selective formation of C2H5OH. The adjacent Fe sites featured in Fe5/NSC synergistically facilitate the dissociation and/or partial oxidation of CH4 to distinct C1 intermediates (*OCH2 and *CH3) and subsequent OCHx–CHx coupling between them to form the key CH3CH2O* intermediate for C2H5OH production, as opposed to the conventional CHx–CO coupling pathway that primarily yields acetic acid.

A bottom-gate-modulated carbon-based FET is developed for room-temperature H 2 S detection. • Complete recovery is achieved by purely electrical activation without external assistance. • The sensor shows favorable selectivity and stability for miniaturized, integrated sensing applications. Increasing attention has been paid to the detection of hazardous gases under room-temperature operating conditions. To address this, this work proposes a novel strategy based on a bottom-gate modulated carbon-based field-effect transistor (FET) for efficient room-temperature H₂S sensing. The FET-type gas sensor was constructed by integrating ZnWO₄/WO₃ composites with the carbon nanotube channel. It was found that applying a −1.5 V bottom-gate bias effectively modulates the surface electronic states of the sensing material, leading to significantly enhanced device performance: a response time of 28 s and a recovery time of 92 s toward 10 ppm H₂S at room temperature, enabling both rapid response and complete recovery. Furthermore, the sensor exhibits a favorable concentration-dependent response within 1–10 ppm, while maintaining high selectivity, consistent reproducibility, and durable long-term stability (maximum response fluctuation <7.1% over 15 days). The performance enhancement is primarily attributed to the gate-bias-facilitated regeneration of adsorbed oxygen species on the material surface. This work not only provides an innovative approach for room-temperature, low-power H₂S detection but also offers a new pathway toward the development of miniaturized and integratable gas sensors. Structural polymerization is a primary factor driving intrinsic property changes in calcium silicate (aluminate) hydrate (C–(A)–S–H). However, the mechanisms by which erosive media induce structural polymerization of C–(A)–S–H gel during the service life of cement-based materials remain unclear. This study investigates the effects of both alkaline and acidic sulfates on the composition and microstructural evolution of C–(A)–S–H through various physical and microstructural analyses. The findings indicate that dehydration condensation reactions of Si–OH groups, resulting from decalcification and carbonation processes, are the main contributors to the polymerization silicate tetrahedra. As the aluminum phase increases, the leaching of Al[IV] from the C–(A)–S–H gel after sulfate erosion becomes more pronounced, leading to a tendency for the original silicate–aluminate chain structure to undergo polymerization and reconstruction. Furthermore, aluminum can only promote the polymerization of silicate tetrahedra within a specific range. This study provides a theoretical foundation for regulating concrete microstructure and optimizing its durability.

The effective degradation of persistent and potentially toxic glyphosate in water remains a challenge. Herein, we report an engineering strategy of chloride-modulated synthesis to fabricate illite-modified CuFe₂O₄ composite (CuFe₂O₄/Illite) as robust heterogeneous Fenton-like catalysts. The optimized catalyst exhibited outstanding glyphosate removal efficiency (98.6% in 60 min), wide pH adaptability (pH 3–11), and excellent stability (87.85% efficiency after four cycles). Chloride ions were found to slightly promote degradation, whereas common anions like HCO₃ - , NO₃ - , and SO₄² - showed mild inhibition. Quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis identified •OH and O₂• - as the primary reactive oxygen species, with a minor contribution from ¹O₂ contribution. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results revealed that the facilitated Cu²⁺/Cu⁺ and Fe³ ⁺/Fe²⁺ redox cycles served as an efficient electron-transfer highway, dramatically enhancing the heterolytic cleavage of H 2 O 2 and the sustained generation of reactive species. Based on liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) analysis, a degradation pathway involving C-P bond cleavage and side-chain oxidation was proposed, leading to the mineralization of toxic intermediate Aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) into CO₂, NH₄⁺, and PO₄³ - . This work provides a promising catalyst and elucidates the underlying mechanism for glyphosate wastewater remediation.

The efficiency of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is limited by the scaling relationship in the conventional oxygen associative pathway. To break such limitations, we present an approach to effectively activate the oxygen dissociative pathway through co-confining single p -block (In, Sn, Pb) atoms and interstitial H atoms within Pd metallenes, leading to good ORR performance. PdPbH x metallenes exhibit a high mass activity of 1.36 A mg −1 at 0.95 V (vs. RHE), which is 46.9 times higher than that of the benchmark Pt/C. The minimal performance decay after 50,000 potential cycles confirms a good stability. In situ vibrational spectroscopy investigations and theoretical calculations highlight that interstitial H atoms facilitate the direct dissociation of O 2 while single Pb atoms enhance O 2 adsorption strength. The electroactive PdPbH x metallenes is attributed to the up-shifted Pd-4 d orbitals induced by H and Pb atoms. This research supplies critical inspiration for developing highly efficient ORR electrocatalysts.
