Fe 2.5 M 0.5 O 4 (M = Mn, Ti and Cu) were investigated for the first time as the catalyst for simultaneous removal of NO and SO 2 through catalytic oxidation-absorption with vaporized H 2 O 2 . The physicochemical properties of as-prepared catalysts were comprehensively characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, BET, XPS, TPR, VSM, TG and PL analyses. Activity test results showed that SO 2 can be completely removed under most conditions. However, NO removal was affected by catalyst, H 2 O 2 consumption, reaction temperature, GHSV and coexistence gases (i.e., H 2 O, O 2 , NO and SO 2 ). Mn, Ti and Cu doping in the magnetite can remarkably enhance NO removal. Redox pairs and oxygen vacancy of catalysts were considered as vital factors affecting OH generation. Base on the catalyst characterization and DFT calculation results, the main mechanism of Mn, Ti and Cu doping on the catalytic activity improvement was explained as follows: (a) Mn, Ti and Cu doping can increase the catalyst surface area; (b) Ti on the surface can directly promote the catalytic decomposition of H 2 O 2 ; and (c) Mn and Cu doping can promote the generation of oxygen vacancy and indirectly increase the activity. Moreover, two arrangement forms of an industrial simultaneous removal system for NO, SO 2 and Hg 0 were proposed.

The size of nanoparticles plays a key role in utilizing enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect of tumor, where large-sized nanoparticles possess good retention but poor penetration, while small-sized nanoparticles are on the contrary. Although size-reducible nanoparticles have been designed to partially overcome this dilemma, the initial size and complicated tumor microenvironment remain restricting the tumor distribution of nanoparticles. Herein, we employed tumor-specific CD44 targeted, hyaluronidase-degradable hyaluronic acid (HA) and small-sized, renal-clearable, red emission, cationic bovine serum albumin-protected gold nanocluster ( [email protected] ) to successfully construct size-reducible nanoplatform ( [email protected] @HA). By changing the ratio of HA and [email protected] , different initial sizes of [email protected] @HA were prepared and their tumor targeting efficiencies, pharmacokinetic profiles were evaluated. Then 200 nm of [email protected] @HA with optimal EPR effect was screened out to further load paclitaxel (PTX) and indocyanine green (ICG) for chemo- photothermal therapy and nitric oxide (NO) for modulating tumor microenvironment and enhancing drug delivery. The [email protected] @HA-NO 3 showed size-reducible ability under triggering by hyaluronidase and high accumulation in breast cancer with homogenous intra-tumor distribution, suppressed 95.3% of in-situ tumor growth and inhibited 88.4% of lung metastasis growth. In conclusion, we provide a strategy that fully satisfied the concerns in drug delivery to tumor for improved antitumor effect.

In this work, novel (CeO 2 ) x -(CePO 4 ) 1−x (defined as Ce x P 1−x ) nanorod composites were prepared by a simple co-precipitation method, and the influence of CeO 2 on the catalytic performance of CePO 4 for selective catalytic reduction of NO by NH 3 (NH 3 -SCR of NO) was investigated. The catalytic performance evaluation revealed that the Ce x P 1−x catalysts, especially Ce 0.2 P 0.8 exhibited a much better catalytic activity and H 2 O + SO 2 resistance than CePO 4 . Structure characterizations via high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) revealed that the introduction of CeO 2 had a little effect on the shape of CePO 4 nanorods and it could promote the formation of new mesoporous then significantly enhance the surface area of catalyst. The analysis results of active sites suggested that phosphorus was the main adsorption site for NH 3 and the redox sites were controlled by CeO 2 on Ce x P 1−x catalysts. Finally, reaction process study demonstrated that the NH 3 -SCR over Ce x P 1−x was processed via Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) mechanism. Combining the results of active sites and reaction mechanism analysis, it was drawn that the superior low temperature activity of Ce x P 1−x could be attributed to its excellent redox properties, which promoted the oxidation of NO then facilitated the process of NH 3 -SCR via “fast SCR”.

Abnormal tumor vasculature greatly accelerates tumor progression and diminishes antitumor treatments. Restoring perivascular NO gradients is available to maintain tumor vessel homeostasis and promote tumor vascular normalization. However, exogenously delivering NO strategies lacks the durability to maintain precise NO localization around tumor vessels. Herein, we design a lipid nano delivery system (MC@L) and exploit endothelial transcytosis to deliver metformin (Met) and CaO 2 into tumor vascular endothelial cells (ECs) and tumor cells for achieving tumor vascular normalization-boosted antitumor immunotherapies. The Ca 2+ and Met released in ECs could restore perivascular localization of NO by activating endothelial NOS (eNOS). Additionally, MC@L internalized by tumor cells could cause CaO 2 -induced immunogenic cell death (ICD), together with hypoxia relief and acid neutralization mediated by O 2 generation and H + consumption during CaO 2 degradation, thus further improving the immune effector cell functions under the accompaniment of Met-mediated inhibition of tryptophane uptake in tumor cells. Such a lipid nano delivery system greatly increases the susceptibility of 4T1 tumor-bearing mice to PD-L1 blockade efficacy.

Replacing NH 3 in NH 3 -SCR with VOCs provides a new idea for the simultaneous removal of VOCs and NO x , but the technology still has urgent problems such as high cost of catalyst preparation and unsatisfactory catalytic effect in the low-temperature region. In this study, biochar obtained from sewage sludge calcined at different temperatures was used as a carrier, and different Co and Mn injection ratios were selected. Then, a series of sludge-based biochar (SBC) catalysts were prepared by a one-step hydrothermal synthesis method for the simultaneous removal of acetone and NO in a low-temperature photothermal co-catalytic system with acetone replacing NH 3 . The characterization results show that heat is the main driving force of the reaction system, and the abundance of Co and Mn atoms in high valence states, surface-adsorbed oxygen, and oxygen lattice defects in the catalyst are the most important factors affecting the performance of the catalyst. The performance test results showed that the optimal pyrolysis temperature of sludge was 400 °C, the optimal dosing ratio of Co and Mn was 4:1, and the catalyst achieved 42.98% and 52.41% conversion of acetone and NO, respectively, at 240 °C with UV irradiation. Compared with the pure SBC without catalytic effect, the SBC loaded with Co and Mn gained the ability of simultaneous removal of acetone and NO through the combined effect of multiple factors. The key reaction steps for the catalytic conversion of acetone and NO on the catalyst surface were investigated according to the Mars-van Krevelen (MvK) mechanism, and a possible mechanism was proposed. This study provides a new strategy for the resource utilization of sewage sludge and the preparation of photothermal catalysts for the simultaneous removal of acetone and NO at low cost.

The SiC catalytic membrane combining dust removal and denitration can realize the efficacious treatment of atmospheric pollutants. Unfortunately, a large amount of SiO 2 , formed by the partial oxidation of SiC at a high temperature, results in the decreased chemical resistance of SiC catalytic membrane. In addition, the complicated preparation processes and susceptible to loss of catalytic components under harsh conditions restrict the industrial application of SiC catalytic membranes. Here, the Cu-SAPO-34(D)/SiC catalytic membranes were directly prepared via a facile one-pot hydrothermal synthesis method, which ingeniously utilized the generated SiO 2 as a Si source to participate in the growth of Cu-SAPO-34 zeolites. Excellent binding strength and chemical resistance were simultaneously realized for the SiC catalytic membranes. As a comparison, a Cu-SAPO-34(I)/SiC catalytic membrane was fabricated via the conventional two-step ion-exchange method. The 0.2 Cu-SAPO-34(D)/SiC (Cu molar ratio of 0.2) achieved the best NH 3 -SCR performance among the prepared catalytic membranes for its highly active copper and oxygen species, abundant Lewis acid sites and remarkable redox capacity. When implementing the simultaneous removal of NO and PM, the 0.2 Cu-SAPO-34(D)/SiC catalytic membrane achieved a high NO degradation performance of 98% from 200 to 280 °C, coupled with an excellent PM 0.3 (model dust with average size of 300 nm) filtration performance of 99.99%. These results were better than those of the Cu-SAPO-34(I)/SiC catalytic membrane (92% for NO degradation and 99.98% for PM 0.3 filtration). The one-pot in situ synthesis of Cu-SAPO-34(D)/SiC catalytic membrane with enhanced binding strength and chemical resistance provides a novel strategy for preparation of high-performance SiC catalytic membrane with double benefits.

This work aimed at illustrating a crucial factor towards a sustainable municipal wastewater treatment process , namely, the membrane fouling caused by different statuses of biomass in the membrane bioreactors (MBRs) with no sludge discharge, and tried to explore the essential reasons leading to membrane fouling. By parallelly operating the MBRs with or without bio-carriers for 90 days under the same conditions, their operating characteristics and the accumulated membrane foulants were comparatively studied by using multi-methods. The results indicated that the added bio-carriers mitigated the membrane fouling, especially inhibited the formation of the reversible and the permanent resistance of membrane modules , and reduced the accumulation of foulants on membrane surface . When the trans-membrane pressure value of the bioreactor with bio-carriers reached 32.5 kPa for the first time, the trans-membrane pressure value of the bioreactor without bio-carriers had reached 32.5 kPa for the third time. The growing status of biomass was changed by the bio-carriers, which influenced the micro-habitat of microorganisms and varied the structure of microbial communities within the MBRs. The variation of the growing status of biomass is an essential reason leading to exhibiting differences in the membrane fouling of these MBRs.

A series of CeO 2 @Ce-O-P “multi-core@shell” catalysts were synthesized in this paper for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH 3 . The experimental results had showed that CeO 2 @Ce-O-P-30:3 yielded best SO 2 tolerance of an over 70% deNO x efficiency at 250 °C in the presence of 100 ppm SO 2 for 20 h, which was much higher compared to pure Ce-O-P and CeO 2 samples. Further characterization results indicated that Ce-O-P coating layer could somewhat inhibit sulfur depositing on the catalysts during SCR reaction in the presence of SO 2 , thereby protecting the active sites from SO 2 poisoning. Especially, O 2 -TPD results illustrated that a great amount of active oxygen species were retained on used CeO 2 @Ce-O-P catalyst after a long term reaction. The synergetic effect of “multi-core@shell” structure could be attributed to such enhanced performances. The “core” CeO 2 devoted abundant active oxygen sites to fulfill the SCR reaction. And the “shell” Ce-O-P could not only provide acid sites, but also protect the active oxygen species by avoiding the over-adsorption of SO 2 on the catalyst. This work could provide a new way to increase the sulfur resistance for low temperature SCR catalysts.

The classical colorimetric assays with Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) are not suitable for analytical systems where the analyte could not induce a red-to-blue color change related to their surface plasmon resonance (SPR). To respond this challenge, herein this study utilizes Tyndall effect (TE) of AuNPs as amplified colorimetric signaling to design a universal visual assay for sensitive detection of trypsin (model analyte). The AuNPs are modified with biotinylated peptides. In the absence of trypsin, streptavidin binds biotin on these probes to form a network-like complex consisting of repeated units of “AuNP-biotin-streptavidin-biotin-AuNP” resulting in a mixture that shows an intense TE response as well a SPR-related red color. Upon trypsin incubation, however, the analyte can cleave the peptide chain to inhibit the streptavidin-mediated production of network-like complex; the resultant red reaction solution containing free AuNP probes would display a weak TE signal. The reduction degree in the TE positively relies on the trypsin level in sample. The results demonstrate that this new equipment-free method only requires a laser pointer pen (for the TE creation) and a smartphone (for portable TE imaging readout) to linearly detect trypsin in a concentration range of 3.9–1000 nM, with an estimated limit of ∼0.63 nM (3σ). The satisfactory recovery of trypsin in actual human serum samples is between 94.93–102.21 %. Such TE-enhanced strategy may significantly expand theoretical scope of widely used AuNP-based visual assays and their applications in various resources-limited settings like point-of-care testing of trypsin for medical diagnosis.

Background Black rice is rich in various nutrients, such as anthocyanins, which may undergo some changes during cooking. However, previous studies have been mainly focused on a single substance and paid less attention to the changes in overall nutrient components. Here, we performed widely targeted metabolomics analysis on the chemical compositional changes in a new black rice variety (‘Huamoxiang No.3’) under three cooking modes, including bottom heating (BH), induction heating (IH), and IH + pressure. Results Among the detected 1458 metabolites, 276 and 108 metabolites were differential metabolites after cooking and in three cooking modes, respectively. Cooking increased the contents of most peptides, phenolic acids, and organic acid compounds but significantly decreased those of lipids and flavonoids, particularly anthocyanins. However, phenolic acids such as chlorogenic acid, erucic acid, and p -coumaric acid increased significantly, possibly due to the release of bound phenols and degradation of flavonoids to phenolic acids, such as thermal degradation of C3G to protocatechuic acid and among the three heating modes, the IH + pressure mode resulted in the most significant changes. Conclusion Although cooking reduced the content of flavonoids and anthocyanins, the increase in phenolic acids and other substances contributed to the healthy effect of cooked black rice, and the content of these active substances increased more significantly in the IH + pressure mode.

The treatment of diabetic wound infections remains a significant challenge. Nitric oxide (NO) generated by macrophage in body is essential for immune defense and wound healing, making it a promising therapeutic agent for wound infections. However, high glucose level in diabetic wound impairs macrophage function. Here, we construct a macrophage-mimetic living hydrogel microspheres capable of producing NO through a glucose-fueled cascade reaction for efficiently eliminating bacterial infection and accelerating the diabetic wound healing. In our design, glucose oxidase (GOx) and horseradish peroxidase (HRP) are covalently immobilized into the polyacrylamide (PAM) hydrogel microsphere containing poly-L-arginine (P-Arg), followed by encapsulating with M1 macrophage membrane (M) to yield PGHA@M with bacteria-targeting ability. In the presence of glucose, PGHA@M possesses remarkable capability to produce H₂O₂, which is subsequently catalyzed by HRP into hydroxyl radicals ( OH). Meanwhile, the embedded P-Arg is oxidized by OH into NO. PGHA@M demonstrates satisfactory antibacterial and antibiofilm properties. Further in vivo experiments verify that PGHA@M can efficiently eliminate the biofilm bacteria and promote the diabetic wound healing. This study provides a potential strategy to simulate M1 macrophage functions via dual enzymatic cascade reactions, and offers a new perspective for the treatment of diabetic wound infections based on living hydrogel microspheres.

Manganese-rich MnSAPO-34 molecular sieves were prepared by one-pot synthesis method for NO
x
abatement using the ammonia-selective catalytic reduction (NH 3 -SCR) technology and characterized using ICP, BET, XRD, FE-SEM, H 2 -TPR, NH 3 -TPD, XPS, and DR UV-Vis analyses. The experimental results indicate that the Mn content and chemical state, as well as the surface acidity, of the MnSAPO-34 molecular sieves significantly enhance their DeNO
x
efficiency at low temperatures (ca. 200–300 °C). The manganese-rich MnSAPO-34 was synthesized using a combination of triethylamine and diisopropylamine as the structural directing agents and high Mn loading ( n (MnO)/ n (P 2 O 5 ) = 0.4). The resulting catalyst exhibits the highest activity among all of the samples with a NO
x
conversion value of nearly 95% and a N 2 selectivity that is higher than 90% at 220–400 °C. In addition, this catalyst presents higher NO
x
conversion than the conventional V 2 O 5 -WO 3 /TiO 2 catalysts and other SAPO-based catalysts below 300 °C. Furthermore, the analytical results indicate that the manganese species in the catalyst are mainly in the form of a framework Mn(IV), which could play a significant role in the NH 3 -SCR process as the specific active species. The results suggest that controlling the types and content of the organic amine templates and variations in the surface acidity of the catalysts may significantly enhance the SCR activity at lower temperatures.
