Liver fibrosis (LF) is one of the major diseases that threaten human health. Until now, no effective drugs have been approved for clinical anti-liver fibrosis treatment. In this study, zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) lipid nanoparticles loaded with pirfenidone (PFD) and modified with vitamin A (VA) were constructed (VA-PFD@ZIF-8@DMPC NPs). PFD was embedded in ZIF-8 by the “one-pot” method, and the prepared ZIF-8 had a small particle size (84.3 nm) and high drug loading (54.46%). Moreover, the inherent pH sensitivity of ZIF-8 makes it stable in a normal physiological environment and collapsed in an acidic environment, thus controlling drug release and preventing drug leakage. Besides, the phospholipid layer makes the nano-drug delivery system dispersible and improves its biocompatibility . More importantly, VA is modified on the surface of nanoparticles (NPs), which can target the highly expressed retinol-binding protein receptor (RBPR) on the surface of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), thereby accurately increasing the local drug concentration at the site of LF. In vivo experiments showed that VA-PFD@ZIF-8@DMPC NPs can reduce liver injury, improve the degree of LF, and exert specific therapeutic effects on LF. In conclusion, this nano-delivery system may become a novel and effective anti-liver fibrosis treatment.

In this work, ZIF-8-derived Co3O4@ZnO microspheres were prepared by a liquid-phase concentration-controlled nucleation strategy. The results of the material characterization showed that Co3O4@ZnO microspheres were obtained, and the surface structure could be controlled with the concentration of the ligand. Compared with pure Co3O4microspheres, the operating temperature of optimized Co3O4@ZnO microspheres increased by 90 °C after the gas-sensing test. The response to 50 ppm acetone of Co3O4@ZnO microspheres was 4.5 times higher than that of pure Co3O4, and the detection limit reached 0.5 ppm. Meanwhile, Co3O4@ZnO microspheres showed a shorter response-recovery time and better selectivity. The enhanced-sensing mechanism of the ZIF-8-derived Co3O4@ZnO microspheres was also analyzed. Keywords:gas sensor;microspheres;MOF;ZIF-8

A novel monodispersed In 2 O 3 @ZIF-8 core–shell nanocomposites (CSNCs) are prepared via a simple sonochemical synthesis route in this work. It is found that the encapsulation of In 2 O 3 nanoparticles into ZIF-8 shell can greatly extend the light response of CSNCs into visible light region. Benefiting from the large surface area, porous nanostructure and synergistic effect between In 2 O 3 and ZIF-8, the In 2 O 3 @ZIF-8–175 CSNC exhibits selectivity and ultra-high photocatalytic activity for organic dye acid fuchsin removal. This work not only provides a general synthesis route for fabrication of such unique and monodispersed core–shell heterostructures but also paves a new way for high performance photocatalyst for other hazardous ions selective removal in practical application.

High-entropy materials has achieved much attention in the recent decade years. However, there is few reports on high-entropy MOFs due to the large difference of coordination ability for different metal ions . In this work, high-entropy ZIFs are successfully electrodeposited on the nickel foam substrate under high overpotential, and the effects of potential, electrodeposition time and metal precursor concentration on the morphologies and catalytic activity of deposits are examined. The results indicate that the prepared HE-ZIF is made of nanoparticles with a low crystalline structure, and it shows a high electrocatalytic activities for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) as it possesses an abundance of defects such as vacancy defects , lattice distortions and amorphous structure. The overpotential at the current density of 100 mA cm −2 is 290 mV with good durability in 100 h continuous test for OER in 1 mol L −1 KOH.

The enrichment and recovery of low concentration rare earth ions from wastewater resources has become an important research direction to achieve high quality utilization of rare earth resources. In this experiment, graphitic carbon nitride was used as the substrate, which was firstly compounded with Fe 3 O 4 to become magnetic graphitic carbon nitride material by alcohol heat method, and then in situ compounded with ZIF-8 in aqueous phase at room temperature to form the composite g-C 3 N 4 /Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8. Finally, the composite was characterized. The adsorption performance of g-C 3 N 4 /Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8 and the control g-C 3 N 4 /Fe 3 O 4 and ZIF-8 for La(III) under various conditions was investigated by adsorption experiment. In addition, the types and mechanism of La(III) adsorption were discussed by kinetic, isothermal adsorption line and thermodynamic modeling studies. Finally, the stability performance and reusability of the composite were evaluated by regeneration experiments. The result show that g-C 3 N 4 /Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8 has good adsorption performance on lanthanide ions. g-C 3 N 4 /Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8 reached adsorption equilibrium at about 20 min. When pH is 6 and the solid–liquid ratio of adsorbent is 0.25 g/L, the adsorption amount was 176.68 mg/g. g-C 3 N 4 /Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8 had good selectivity for lanthanum(III), and it retains 81 % of initial adsorption performance after five times of reuse.

Absent angiogenesis and bacterial infection are two major challenges that simultaneously delay the repair of injured tissues and organs. However, most current therapeutic systems deliver therapeutic cues in a separate and inaccurate manner which stimulates angiogenesis or inhibits infection leading to limited repair and side effects. Advanced therapeutic systems capable of providing accurate angiogenic stimulation and anti-infection signals in response to the changing microenvironment are urgently needed. Herein, a nano-reactor (ZFVO) involving zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67)-deposited hollow vanadium oxide (VO 2 ) is developed to intelligently execute pro-angiogenesis and/or disinfection via the responsive release of cobalt ions and hydroxyl radicals to the injury and infection sites, respectively. ZFVO nano-reactor demonstrates a novel strategy for constructing drug-free nano-platforms with a hierarchical structure which has potential for the accurate treatment of trauma and orthopedic diseases.

Mixed matrix composite membranes (MMCMs) for CO 2 capture have great potential in carbon neutral goal. However, simultaneous enhancement in permeance and selectivity is very difficult, since mismatching pore and chemical structures of filler with polymer matrix are the stumbling block. Herein, novel core–shell MOFs@COFs hybrids were prepared by growing hierarchical pore covalent organic frameworks (COFs, nitrogen-enriched nanoporous polytriazine (NENP)) on the surface of metal organic framework (MOFs, zeolite imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8)), where ethylenediamine were impregnated into NENP pore to adjust the chemistry environment of the shell. Subsequently, a porous polysulfone (PSf) membrane-supported MMCMs were developed by a coating method using a mixed dispersion of ZIF-8@NENP-NH 2 and polyvinylamine (PVAm), which was used to efficiently separate CO 2 from N 2 . The rough COFs layer (NENP-NH 2 ) was closely wrapped on the smooth surface of ZIF-8 as identified by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and N 2 adsorption. Even-distributed ZIF-8@NENP-NH 2 had well miscibility with the PVAm matrix from hydrogen bonding as evidenced by SEM, attenuated total reflectance-FTIR and differential scanning calorimetry. The CO 2 permeance as high as 301 GPU accompanied with a selectivity of 91 was obtained for MMCMs loaded with 7 wt% ZIF-8@NENP-NH 2 , which were enhanced by 296.1% and 89.6%, respectively, when compared with the pristine PVAm membrane, transcending 2019 upper bound. We assume that the surface chemistry environment in hierarchical pore of the shell and molecular sieving pore in the core in the short-range order facilitate CO 2 permeation. Furthermore, this membrane maintained an average CO 2 permeance of 369 GPU and a CO 2 /N 2 selectivity of 97.3 for over 360 h using CO 2 /N 2 mixed gas as feed gas.

Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) were appealing wastewater treatment options yet practices were hampered by reactor design and diminished performance in complex water matrices. Herein, one-step-pyrolysis strategy was proposed for large-scale synthesis of ZIF-67 derived conductive Co/N carbon hollow fiber ultrafiltration membrane to achieve exceptional availability of catalytic sites and interference prevention from macro molecular substances by size exclusion. Benefitting from the microenvironment modulation and electric field assistance (−1 V, membrane as the cathode), the bisphenol A (as a model micropollutant) can be efficiently removed with enhanced mass transfer of flow-through process (modified apparent reaction rate constant of 1260 μM g cat -1 s −1 ) and the active cobalt species were cycled via electroreduction thus showing exceptional sustainability with nearly zero Co leaching even after 24 h operation. The synergy effects between separation and catalysis alleviated the deteriorated AOPs efficiency and membrane fouling caused by macromolecular organic matter. The integrated membrane system provides new insight into rational design of catalytic membrane and system engineering for advanced water purification.

Materials with super-wetting ability have attracted wide attention from both academia and industry due to their great potential applications. A straightforward and versatile route was proposed for the large-scale synthesis of a monodisperse raspberry-like metal–organic framework (ZIF-8) using zinc nitrate as a zinc source and dimethylimidazole as an organic ligand in aqueous solution. After hydrophobic treatment with hexadecyltrimethoxysilane, the ethanolic suspension of three-dimensional raspberry-like ZIF-8 showed excellent superhydrophobic properties. Furthermore, commercial adhesives were used to blend with the suspension to improve the bonding strength to different substrates. These surfaces retained their water resistance after 50 finger-wipe cycles, 40 sandpaper abrasions and knife scratches. Moreover, the prepared hydrophobic surface can withstand the impact of water flow for 10 minutes. The formulations developed can be used for superhydrophobic coating applications on different substrate surfaces such as aluminum foil, glass, paper and cotton.

Controlling the slow release of drugs in carriers and reducing environmental pollution and damage from antibiotics is important and challenging research. In this paper, a novel composite material of carbonized FeNPs@ZIF-8 (C-Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8) was used to load and release doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX). Compared with conventional ZIFs materials, greatly enhancing the magnetic properties , drug loading capacity and controlled drug release of the carrier agent. Interestingly, by establishing a dual stimulus response system with environmental factors of pH and temperature, results showed release rate of 61.6 % at a pH of 3 and a temperature of 37 °C. In addition, the SEM-EDS results showed that the surface of C-Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8 was partially broken but maintained a stable morphology before and after release. Meanwhile the nitrogen absorption desorption curve (BET) and hysteresis loop reveal that C-Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8 can maintain a large specific surface area and a magnetization intensity of 12.4 emu g −1 after release. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), on the other hand, reveal the presence of partial ligand and hydrogen bond breaks during the release of DOX from DOX-loaded C-Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8. Finally, the release of DOX from C-Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8 at different pH and temperature is consistent with the Higuch and Bhaskas models, where the latter dominates and proposes a release mechanism. Therefore, the magnetic composite C-Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8 in this study has great potential for DOX to effectively control drug release and targeted cancer therapy.

In this study, we constructed zinc based metal–organic framework functionalized by L-histidine (His@ZiF-8). The His@ZiF-8 had high porosity, large surface area, abundant carboxyl and amino group, which has been found to greatly enhance the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) of tetracycline (TC). After the His@ZiF-8 enrichment with TC, the TC exhibited strong fluorescence emission peak at 565 nm based on AIE. Under the optimal conditions, the fluorescence intensity of TC exhibited a good linear relationship with TC concentration within 0.1–80 μM with a low limit of detection of 28.6 nM. Antibiotic analogs such as neomycin, chloramphenico, ampicillin, kanamycin, and erythromycin have no obvious interference. In addition, the developed method was successfully used to the detection of TC in milk, river water, and honey.

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by plaque that leads to alveolar bone resorption . In the treatment of periodontitis, it is necessary to reduce the bacterial load and promote alveolar bone regeneration . In this study, zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) is used in the treatment of periodontitis, and an injectable photopolymerizable ZIF-8/gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) composite hydrogel (GelMA-Z) is constructed. We confirm that ZIF-8 nanoparticles are successfully loaded into GelMA, which demonstrates fluidity and photopolymerizability. GelMA-Z continuously releases Zn 2+ and shows good cytocompatibility. In vitro , GelMA-Z can effectively upregulate the expression of osteogenesis-related genes and proteins, increase alkaline phosphatase activity, promote extracellular matrix mineralization by rat bone mesenchymal stem cells, and exert an obvious antibacterial effect against Porphyromonas gingivalis . In vivo , GelMA-Z reduces the bacterial load, relieves inflammation and promotes alveolar bone regeneration in a rat model. The above results show that GelMA-Z has potential prospects in the treatment of periodontitis. Statement of significance Various methods have been explored for the treatment of periodontitis. However, current regiments have difficulty achieving ideal alveolar bone regeneration. In this study, we constructed a zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8)/gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) composite hydrogel (GelMA-Z). (1) The injectable and photopolymerizable GelMA-Z showed biocompatibility in vitro and in vivo . (2) GelMA-Z continually released zinc ions to promote the osteogenic differentiation of bone mesenchymal stem cells and kill bacteria in vitro . (3) In a rat model, the GelMA-Z pregel solution was used to fill the periodontal pocket and then crosslinked by UV exposure. GelMA-Z can stably remain in the periodontal pocket to reduce the bacterial load, relieve inflammation and promote alveolar bone regeneration. In conclusion, GelMA-Z has great potential for use in the treatment of periodontitis, especially in promoting alveolar bone regeneration.
