Cholestatic liver disease (CLD) is a common liver disorder with limited treatment options. Here, we demonstrate that zinc (Zn) supplementation can alter the gut microbiome to mitigate cholestatic liver injury. Oral Zn altered the microbiota of mice and humans (this study was registered at clinicaltrials.gov [NCT05597137]), increasing the abundance of Blautia producta ( B. producta ) and promoting the generation of p-coumaric acid. Additionally, p-coumaric acid concentrations were negatively correlated with liver injury parameters in CLD patients. In mice, the protective effects of Zn were partially mediated by p-coumaric acid, which directly bound to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase 2 (NOX2) and suppressed the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in hepatocytes, thus preventing hepatocyte cell death and liver damage. Additionally, knocking out the histidine ammonia-lyase, which catalyzes the conversion of tyrosine to p-coumaric acid in B. producta , blunted the protective effects of Zn. These findings highlight a host-microbiota interaction that is stimulated by Zn supplementation, providing potential benefits for CLD.

Perovskite quantum dots (QDs) exhibit unique advantages, including a wide color gamut, narrow full width at half-maximum, cost-effectiveness, and high-efficiency luminescence, positioning them as a significant focus in contemporary optoelectronic research. Nevertheless, the synthesis of QDs often introduces crystal defects, while conventional in situ ligands can detrimentally affect the optoelectronic properties of perovskites. To overcome these challenges, we synthesized a symmetrical silane-based passivating agent containing phosphorus–oxygen double bonds. This agent enabled the in situ passivation of perovskites, significantly improving their optical performance and stability. Results showed that postpassivation QDs demonstrated bright green photoluminescence (PL) at 525 nm, with a 28% enhancement in PL intensity, a 16% increase in photoluminescence quantum yield, and an average lifetime (τave) extended by 191.2 ns. Furthermore, the thermal stability at 80 °C improved by 3.75-fold, and the stability under 84% relative humidity conditions increased by 21%. 1,3-bis(3-diethoxyphosphorylpropyl)-1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxane (SPE)-passivated perovskites are viable for practical applications.

In the present study, Ni-P-CS composite coating was prepared on Q235 carbon steel surface by electroless plating method. Candle soot (CS) is the soot produced by incomplete combustion of candles, and it is mainly composed of amorphous carbon and carbon nanoparticles. The results show that: the results indicated that the corrosion resistance of the Ni-P deposit improved with the incorporation of candle soot (CS). The electrochemical test of Q235 carbon steel, Ni-P and Ni-P-CS with 3.5% NaCl solution was performed at room temperature. The test results show that the protection efficiency of the new coating (Ni-P-CS) reaches 78.5%. Compared with the Ni-P coating with the protection efficiency of 47.08%, its corrosion resistance increased by 31.42 percentage points. This study demonstrates for the first time that Ni-P-CS composite coating is a feasible method for metal corrosion prevention, with inexpensive raw materials and easy preparation. It provides a novel idea for petroleum, chemical and other metal anticorrosion fields.

In this study, an adsorbent capable of rapidly adsorbing heavy metal ions was prepared using PVA crosslinked with PF127DA and AA/AM. The swelling behavior of the hydrogel in salt solutions was investigated based on the Flory–Huggins theory model. The results indicated that the theoretical predictions of the hydrogel's volume swelling ratio, derived from the Flory–Rehner swelling theory and the Donnan equilibrium, were in agreement with the experimental swelling data of the hydrogel in water and salt solutions. With the increase in the amount of crosslinking agent PF127DA, the water absorption swelling ratio of the composite material was reduced by half, with the volume swelling ratio decreasing from 3.56 to 2.33. When the concentration of cations in the salt solution increased from 10 −5 mol/L to 10 −1 mol/L, the volume swelling ratio of the hydrogel showed a decreasing trend, which in turn affected the adsorption performance of the pollutant. Therefore, increasing the amount of crosslinking agent can enhance the colloidal strength, provided that its swelling properties are not compromised. Additionally, the presence of high concentrations of salt can affect the adsorption behavior of the hydrogel, and appropriate measures should be taken in practical applications to avoid its impact on adsorption behavior. Graphical The study prepared adsorbent, analyzed PF127DA's effect on hydrogel, and found it affects swelling and has high Pb adsorption capacity for heavy metal removal.

The instability of P─F bond-based electrolyte (PFE) under ambient conditions presents one of the biggest challenges for the production, usage, and recycling of lithium (Li) batteries. It increases the cost of battery production, decreases battery service life, and harms human health and environmental sustainability during the use of batteries. Here a stabilized P─F bond electrolyte (SPFE) is reported, which can effectively prevent the side-reactions in PFE at ambient conditions. The SPFE, which is pristine, containing ultra-high content of water (10 000 ppm or 10 g L −1 ), can support the 2 Ah Li-ion pouch cell (200 Wh kg −1 ) cycling 400 times with 90.2% of its capacity retained. The mostly dry room-free (DRF) production of commercial Li-ion (2Ah, 200 Wh kg −1 ) and anode-free (AF) Li metal pouch cell (2 Ah, 410 Wh kg −1 ) also demonstrated excellent cycling stability with the SPFE. Moreover, the SPFE enables AF Li-metal batteries (AFLMBs) to retain 54.1% of their charged capacity even after 180 days of open circuit storage. By intrinsically safeguarding PFE from hydrolysis, the present SPFE would have a broad impact on future battery technology, simplifying battery production, extending battery service life, and safeguarding battery recyclability.

Achieving high sensitivity and reliable detection of trace volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at room temperature remains a significant challenge for metal oxide semiconductor (MOS)-based gas sensors. In this work, we synthesized WO 3 microspheres and PEDOT:PSS@WO 3 (PPW) core-shell heterostructures through a combination of solvothermal treatment and in situ polymerization. The resulting composites were used as active sensing materials for triethylamine vapor detection at room temperature. The PPW-based sensors exhibited excellent TEA sensing performance, which may arise from the synergistic effects of the strong amine affinity of PEDOT:PSS, p–n heterojunction at the PEDOT:PSS/WO 3 interface and the core-shell structure that promotes efficient charge separation and transport. This study demonstrates the significant potential of PPW heterostructures for high-performance, room-temperature sensing of amine vapors and offers a promising strategy for next-generation gas sensor design.

Developing biosensors to monitor and regulate intracellular biosynthesis pathways can significantly enhance natural product yields in microbial cell factories. This study created a novel biosensor in Saccharomyces cerevisiae to respond to p -coumaric acid, a critical precursor in the biosynthesis of polyphenols and flavonoids. This biosensor was constructed by expressing the BsPadR repressor from Bacillus subtilis and engineering hybrid promoters. Notably, the P BS1-CCW12 hybrid promoter exhibited tight regulation by BsPadR and enhanced activity in response to p -coumaric acid. However, excessive BsPadR expression negatively impacted yeast growth, which was mitigated by using weaker promoters, P BST1 and P ERG9 . Furthermore, the impact of nuclear localization signal (SV40-NLS) positioning on BsPadR functionality was explored, revealing that fusion of an SV40-NLS at the C-terminus of BsPadR enhanced the biosensor's performance. To validate its utility, we applied this system to dynamically regulate CrtE (geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate synthase), a key enzyme in lycopene biosynthesis. By coupling p -coumaric acid production with lycopene biosynthesis, we enabled high-throughput colorimetric screening for enzyme evolution and strain selection. This novel biosensor serves as a valuable tool for future studies aimed at optimizing the production of p -coumaric acid and its derivatives in S. cerevisiae , thereby advancing the efficiency of biosynthetic processes in microbial cell factories.

Electrochemical synthesis, with its mild conditions and high atom economy, offers a sustainable alternative for creating high-value products. However, for electrochemical reactions, commonly involving a larger parameter space than traditional chemical reactions, it is challenging to efficiently identify optimal reaction conditions or investigate the underlying principles. In this article, a two-step framework of AI-guided exploration is proposed for investigating the Co(II)-mediated electro-oxidation of p-xylene. A multiobjective diversity-driven Bayesian optimization approach is applied for the first step to search the space of operation, identifying Pareto-optimal solutions that balance maximizing reaction yield and minimizing Faradaic contribution. These solutions are then analyzed by employing SHAP (SHapley Additive Explanations) and additional experiments in the second step to investigate the reaction mechanisms. The optimized conditions achieved higher yields and lower energy consumption compared to reported studies in the literature while avoiding the use of toxic solvents. The framework demonstrates the advantage of AI-guided optimization to accelerate the research of electrochemical reactions by significantly reducing the cost of experiments and reducing reagent consumption as well as waste generation, presenting a new path for exploring sustainable chemical processes.

High-entropy catalysts featuring exceptional properties are, in no doubt, playing an increasingly significant role in aprotic lithium-oxygen batteries. Despite extensive effort devoted to tracing the origin of their unparalleled performance, the relationships between multiple active sites and reaction intermediates are still obscure. Here, enlightened by theoretical screening, we tailor a high-entropy perovskite fluoride (KCoMnNiMgZnF 3 -HEC) with various active sites to overcome the limitations of conventional catalysts in redox process. The entropy effect modulates the d -band center and d orbital occupancy of active centers, which optimizes the d – p hybridization between catalytic sites and key intermediates, enabling a moderate adsorption of LiO 2 and thus reinforcing the reaction kinetics. As a result, the Li–O 2 battery with KCoMnNiMgZnF 3 -HEC catalyst delivers a minimal discharge/charge polarization and long-term cycle stability, preceding majority of traditional catalysts reported. These encouraging results provide inspiring insights into the electron manipulation and d orbital structure optimization for advanced electrocatalyst.

The increased human demand for an intelligent life puts forward a great requirement for lightweight, stretchable, and comfort sensing and energy harvesting devices. Stretchable thermoelectric fiber becomes very attractive due to it can directly convert human body waste heat into electricity and enables stress, strain, and temperature sensing by designing the structure of the materials. However, the preparation of stretchable poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) fibers with enhanced performances and continuous p-n alternating structure remains a challenge. In this study, the stretchable continuous p-n alternating thermoelectric fibers were prepared by a simple and controllable microfluidic wet-spinning process, in which the single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT)/PEDOT:PSS/polyurethane (PU) and polyethyleneimine (PEI) doped SWCNT/PEDOT:PSS/PU were used as p- and n-type segments, respectively. To optimize the performances, the effect of SWCNT and PEI concentration on the morphology, thermoelectric, and mechanical properties of p- and n-type fibers were analyzed. The power factor of the p- and n-type fibers were 2.67 and 3.48 µW m −1 K −2 , respectively, with a stress of 16 ~ 19 MPa and strain of 70%. Then, the strain and temperature sensors were constructed by the stretchable TE fibers and used for respiration and motion monitoring, showing excellent sensitivity and stability. All the results demonstrate the multifunctions of the stretchable TE fibers used as flexible wearable electronics.

The objective of this study was to identify and synthesize functional groups for the efficient adsorption of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) through a combination of theoretical calculations, molecular design, and experimental validation. The density functional theory (DFT) calculation, focusing on the P-containing functional groups, showed that methanol adsorption was dominated by the electrostatic interaction between the carbon surface and methanol, while toluene was mainly trapped through π-π dispersive interaction between toluene molecule and functional group structure. The experimental results showed the phosphorus-doped carbon materials (PCAC) prepared by directly activating potassium phytate had a phosphorus content of up to 4.5 at.%, mainly in the form of C—O—P(O)(OH) 2 . The material exhibited a high specific area (987.6 m 2 ·g –1 ) and a large adsorption capacity for methanol (440.0 mg·g –1 ) and toluene (350.1 mg·g –1 ). These properties were superior to those of the specific commercial activated carbon (CAC) sample used for comparison in this study. The adsorption efficiencies per unit specific surface area of PCAC were 0.45 mg·g⁻ 1 ·m⁻ 2 for methanol and 0.35 mg·g⁻ 1 ·m⁻ 2 for toluene. This study provided a novel theoretical and experimental framework for the molecular design of polarized elements to enhance the adsorption of polar gases, offering significant advancements over existing commercial solutions.

Ti 3 C 2 QDs with good water solubility and photoluminescence properties was prepared by nitrogen and phosphorus doping (N,P-Ti 3 C 2 QDs). The probe has a fluorescence emission peak at 420 nm and emits bright blue fluorescence, which can distinguish and detect two antibiotics with similar structures, chlortetracycline (CTC) and tetracycline (TC). The fluorescence enhancement effect can be realized by the interaction with CTC. The linear range is 2–22 μM, and the detection limit is as low as 0.53 μM. And the change of fluorescent color from bright blue to bright purple can be observed with the naked eye. At the same time, with the addition of TC, the fluorescence of N,P-Ti 3 C 2 QDs can be quenched by static quenching effect, and the fluorescence color changes from bright blue to yellowish green. The detection range is 4.1–20.5 μM, and the detection limit is as low as 0.16 μM.Therefore, on this basis, a strategy for simultaneous detection and recognition of CTC and TC is proposed. The method has been successfully applied to the determination of CTC and TC in milk samples. This paper provides a new detection method for the identification of tetracycline antibiotics and taps the application potential of Ti 3 C 2 QDs in food detection.
