Decomplexation of Ni-EDTA by Three-Dimensional Electro-Fenton

Juan Peng,Yameng Ma,Xiao Huang,Jianghua Yu,Fengjiao Yu,Jingsi Gao

Ni-ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (Ni-EDTA) poses serious threats to the ecological environment and human health, due to its acute toxicity and low biodegradability. The decomplexation efficiency of Ni-EDTA through the conventional Fenton process has been constrained to pH; thus, other appropriate approaches are required to destroy the stable chelate structure at a neutral pH. In this study, the effect of operating parameters such as the pH, Fe2+concentration, particle electrode dosage, current density, and coexisting ions was studied. The results revealed that the 3D-EF system owned advantages for the removal of Ni-EDTA in the broadening of the pH application window. The Ni-EDTA removal efficiency in the 3D-EF system reached 84.89% after 120 min at a pH of 7. In addition, the presence of coexisting ions slightly affected the decomplexation efficiency of Ni-EDTA.Keywords:Ni-EDTA;three-dimensional electro-Fenton;neutral pH;decomplexation

Microstructure-electrical conductivity relationship of Si(Ni)BCN ceramics

Xingang Luan,Qinghua Zhao,Shaomin Gu,Xichao Dong,Laifei Cheng,Ralf Riedel

Wireless passive sensors based on surface acoustic wave (SAW) provide a good solution for the measurement demand under high temperature and harsh conditions. SiBCN ceramics have excellent mechanical properties at high temperature and semiconductor behavior, making them potential for electrode of SAW sensors. To achieve the target conductivity, a series of SiBCN and SiNiBCN coatings are prepared by polymer derived ceramics (PDC) method and the influence of microstructure on the conductivity of the coatings is discussed. The results show that the conductivity of the SiBCN coatings is affected by both the content of free carbon and the degree of graphitization. The introduction of Ni leads to the formation of Ni 2 Si conductive microcrystals at lower temperatures and catalyzes the graphitization of the carbon phase, so that the SiNiBCN coatings show lower electrical resistivity. The amount of the metal conductive phase and the graphitization degree of the carbon phase increase with the pyrolysis temperature, resulting in decrease of the SiNiBCN coatings resistivity.

Effect of Ni content on high power laser ablation behavior of coatings sprayed by Ni covering graphite/SiO2 powders

Wenzhi Li,Lihong Gao,Zhuang Ma,Yanbo Liu,Fuchi Wang,Jiawei Wang,Lijun Wang,Hezhang Li

Faced with the challenge of high energy ablation problems, especially for laser ablation , effective energy dissipation protective materials fabricate by efficient preparation method is a feasible solution. The Ni-graphite/SiO 2 coatings with different Ni content were prepared by plasma spraying method with optimized plasma spraying parameters. All coatings are pure without oxidation and dense. Their ablation behaviors were investigated by high power continuous wave laser. The results indicate that the Ni-graphite/SiO 2 coating with appropriate Ni content could realize the purpose of energy consumption by endothermal reaction of graphite/SiO 2 and reflection improvement. High Ni content will block the occurrence of endothermal reaction of graphite/SiO 2 and increase the heat diffusion to interior part of coating, which can make the ablation situation of coating more serious.

Hydrogenation of Ethyl Acetate to Ethanol over Ni-Based Catalysts Obtained from Ni/Al Hydrotalcite-Like Compounds

Lu Lin,Ying Liu

A series of Ni-based catalysts were prepared using hydrogen reduction of Ni/Al hydrotalcite-like compounds (Ni/Al HTlcs) synthesized by coprecipitation. The physico-chemical properties of Ni/Al hydrotalcite-like compounds and the corresponding Ni-based catalysts were characterized using inductively coupled plasma (ICP), BET surface areas, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. The results indicated that Ni/Al HTlcs with layered structures could be successfully prepared by the coprecipitation method, and the characteristic HTlcs reflections were also observed in the XRD analysis. The NiO and Ni0phases were identified in all Ni-based catalysts, which displayed randomly interconnected pores and no layer structures. In addition, the studies also found the Ni/Al HTlcs and Ni-based catalysts had high specific surface areas, low pore volumes and low pore diameters. The catalytic hydrogenation of ethyl acetate to ethanol with Ni-based catalysts was also investigated. Among the studied catalysts, RE1NASH-110-3 showed the highest selectivity and yield of ethyl acetate to ethanol, which were 68.2% and 61.7%, respectively. At the same time, a major by-product, butyl acetate, was formed due to an ester-exchange reaction. A proposed hydrogenation pathway for ethyl acetate over Ni-based catalysts was suggested. Keywords:hydrogenation;ethyl acetate;ethanol;Ni/Al hydrotalcite-like compounds

Pure Acetylene Semihydrogenation over Ni–Cu Bimetallic Catalysts: Effect of the Cu/Ni Ratio on Catalytic Performance

Shuzhen Zhou,Lihua Kang,Xuening Zhou,Zhu Xu,Mingyuan Zhu

Ethylene is an important chemical raw material and with the increasing consumption of petroleum resources, the production of ethylene through the calcium carbide acetylene route has important research significance. In this work, a series of bimetallic catalysts with different Cu/Ni molar ratios are prepared by co-impregnation method for the hydrogenation of calcium carbide acetylene to ethylene. The introduction of an appropriate amount of Cu effectively inhibits not only the formation of ethane and green oil, thus increasing the selectivity of ethylene, but also the formation of carbon deposits, which improves the stability of the catalyst. The ethylene selectivity of the Ni–Cu bimetallic catalyst increases from 45% to 63% compared with the Ni monometallic counterpart and the acetylene conversion still can reach 100% at the optimal conditions of 250 °C, 8000 mL·g−1·h−1and V(H2)/V(C2H2) = 3. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy confirmed that the metal particles were highly dispersed on the support, High-resolution transmission electron microscopy and H2-Temperature programmed reduction proved that there was an interaction between Ni and Cu, combined with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations results, Cu transferred electrons to Ni changed the Ni electron cloud density in NiCuxcatalysts, thus reducing the adsorption of acetylene and ethylene, which is favorable to ethylene selectivity. Keywords:Ni–Cu;calcium carbide acetylene;selective hydrogenation;ethylene

CO2 hydrogenation over mesoporous Ni-Pt/SiO2 nanorod catalysts: Determining CH4/CO selectivity by surface ratio of Ni/Pt

Zhongliang Huang,Yujia Yuan,Miaomiao Song,Zhimian Hao,Jingran Xiao,Dongren Cai,Abdul-Rauf Ibrahim,Guowu Zhan

Herein, we fabricated a series of bimetallic Pt-Ni catalysts supported on mesoporous silica nanorods ( m SNR, specific BET surface area of 1802 m 2 g −1 ) to study the effect of Ni/Pt ratio on the product selectivity in CO 2 hydrogenation. Both monometallic Pt/ m SNR and Ni 50 Pt 50 / m SNR catalysts revealed negligible methane selectivity. However, methane became the major product only when increasing the Ni/Pt ratio up to 9. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) characterizations showed that the Pt/Ni ratio on the catalyst surface was appreciably higher than the bulk composition, suggesting the enrichment of Pt on the surface ( e.g. , Pt/Ni of 61/39 for Ni 50 Pt 50 / m SNR catalyst). The Pt/Ni ratio was crucial in determining the CH 4 /CO selectivity, and the addition of a tiny amount of Pt could improve the catalytic performance and stability of Ni/ m SNR. Among the different catalysts, Ni 98 Pt 2 / m SNR showed the best CO 2 conversion (59%) and CH 4 selectivity (96%) at 400 °C, 0.1 MPa, 9600 mL h −1 g cat −1 , and H 2 /CO 2 of 3. In-situ DRIFTS and temperature-programmed surface experiments suggested that the dissociated adsorption of CO 2 on the Pt site led to CO*, but the strongly adsorbed CO* cannot be further hydrogenated to CH 4 over the Pt site. In contrast, CO* could be further hydrogenated into CH 4 via CH x O* intermediates on adjacent Ni sites.

Core-shell heterostructured Ni(OH)2@activation Zn-Co-Ni layered double hydroxides electrode for flexible all-solid-state coaxial fiber-shaped asymmetric supercapacitors

Xiaoshuang Zhou,Bing Chen,Wei Wang,Liang Liu,Xiankai Li,Long Chen,Yanhui Li,Yanzhi Xia,Lijie Ci

The increasing requirements for wearable and portable electronics are driving the interests of high performance fiber supercapacitor. Layered double hydroxide (LDH) is broadly used in electrode materials, owing to the adjustability of components and the unique lamellar structure. However, limited active sites and poor electrical conductivity hinder its applications. Herein, the core–shell heterostructured Ni(OH) 2 @activation Zn-Co-Ni layered double hydroxides (Ni(OH) 2 @A-ZnCoNi-LDH) electrode was fabricated by loading pseudocapacitance material on the A-ZnCoNi-LDH to improve the electrochemical performance. Significantly, benefits from the synergistic effect of the multi-metal ions and the core–shell heterostructure, the electrodes demonstrated a capacitance of 2405 mF·cm −2 at 1 mA·cm −2 . Furthermore, Ni(OH) 2 @A-ZnCoNi-LDH was used as the core electrode and carbon nanotube (CNT) film coated with Fe 2 O 3 @reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was wrapped around the core electrode to assemble coaxial fiber asymmetric supercapacitor, which illustrated an ultrahigh energy density of 177.7 µWh·cm −2 at 0.75 mW·cm −2 . In particular, after consecutive charging and discharging 7000 cycles, the capacitance retention of the device was 95 %, indicating the excellent cycling stability. Furthermore, the device with high flexibility can be woven into textiles in different shapes. The fabricated device has an excellent development prospect as an energy source in wearable electronic devices.

Improving the anti-coking ability in the Ni-M(M = Ce, Zr, Co)@SiO2 yolk-shell catalysts for dry reforming of methane

Xiao Yang,Zhuwei Yang,Linsen Li,Zhao Jiang,Guangxu Cheng

Dry methane reforming (DRM) represents a highly promising approach to greenhouse gas conversion (CO 2 and CH 4 ) to valuable byproducts. However, severe carbon deposition and catalyst deactivation inhibit large-scale applications. The work designed new catalysts with a yolk-shell structure using the water-in-oil microemulsion method. The catalysts were composed of a yolk-shell structure, with Ni-M as the active point and silica as the shell. The catalytic performance evaluation indicates that the Ni-M @SiO 2 catalysts show higher CH 4 and CO 2 conversion compared with the Ni@SiO 2 and conventional catalysts at 750 ℃, suggesting the yolk-shell structure and added M species enhance the DRM activity. The XRD, HRTEM, XPS, BET, H 2 -TPR, and CO 2 -TPD analysis confirmed the existence of yolk-shell configuration and evident electronic effect among Ni, M species, and SiO 2 . The long term measurements indicate that the added M species also bring higher carbon deposition tolerance for DRM, where Ni-Ce@SiO 2 and Ni-Zr@SiO 2 exhibit good structural and catalytic stability for DRM over 100 h. Through XRD, TEM, and TGA characterizations of the exhausted catalysts, it is determined that the coke deposition resistance of the catalyst is improved as a result of increased oxygen mobility and enhanced Ni dispersion on the catalytic surface, both of which are enhanced by the added Ce species. The structural analysis of the spent catalysts indicates that the tolerance of carbon deposition is improved by the yolk-shell samples. This study can offer valuable insights for the development of Ni-based catalysts with exceptional carbon deposition capability for DRM.

Metal particle size effects over the Ni/SAPO-11 bifunctional catalyst

Lei Fan,Yuchao Lyu,Jianye Fu,Yupeng Tian,Furang Li,Wenjing Zhang,Xinmei Liu

The prominent size effects of metal nanoparticles (NPs) are mainly reflected in the change of electronic and geometric properties, which may induce distinct catalytic performance of the catalyst. Herein, Ni/SAPO-11 bifunctional catalysts with controllable sizes of Ni NPs were synthesized to investigate the particle size effects in n-hexane hydroisomerization. The results show that decreasing Ni particle size from 11.7 to 5.3 nm increases the concentration of surface Ni atoms and the proportion of low-coordinated Ni sites (corner, step sites) by 1.7 and 1.5 times, respectively. The low-coordinated surface Ni atoms have rich dangling bonds and high surface energy, resulting in greatly improved H 2 adsorption and activation abilities. Moreover, an increased proportion of low-coordinated Ni sites within the Ni cluster shifts the d-band center upward, further enhancing the adsorption and activation of reactants. The intrinsic catalytic activity (turnover frequency) of 5.3 nm Ni NPs is ca. 2 times as much as that of the 11.7 nm ones. Besides, the smaller Ni NPs enhanced the metal–acid synergy, leading to a higher selectivity to isomers. This work provides deep insights into the metal particle size effects over the bifunctional Ni/SAPO-11 hydroisomerization catalysts and can be extended to various metal supported catalysts.

Oxidative Dehydrogenation of Propane over Ni–Al Mixed Oxides: Effect of the Preparation Methods on the Activity of Surface Ni(II) Species

Gao Xiaoxia,Wang Jiang,Xu Aiju,Jia Meilin

4Ni–Al layered double hydroxide (LDH) precursors were prepared by the following three methods: constant pH coprecipitation, variable pH coprecipitation and urea hydrolysis. The 4Ni–Al mixed metal oxide (MMO) catalysts were obtained by the calcination of LDH precursors at 600 °C, and their catalytic performances in ODHP from 350 to 550 °C were tested. The 4Ni–Al MMO from the urea hydrolysis method showed a higher and more stable propylene selectivity of ca. 40% with propylene yield of ca.11% at 500 °C, and that from the constant pH coprecipitation method was followed, while oxidative cracking of propane occurred on the 4Ni–Al MMO from the variable pH coprecipitation method. It is considered to be closely related to the dispersion and stability of the surface Ni(II) species through comprehensive analysis of XRD, N 2 -adsorption-desorption, TEM, XPS, H 2 -TPR and In-situ electrical conductivity. The urea hydrolysis method with a low salt concentration, leading to an excellent stability of the surface Ni(II) species at high reaction temperature, should be selected to prepare Ni–Al MMO catalysts for ODHP instead of the traditional variable pH coprecipitation method with a high salt concentration. Simultaneous Ni nanoparticles decoration and Ni doping of CdS nanorods for synergistically promoting photocatalytic H2 evolution

Baiyan Zhang,Chaoqiu Chen,Jian Liu,Wei Qiao,Jixiao Zhao,Jie Yang,Yu Yu,Shuai Chen,Yong Qin

Heteroatom doping and loading of co-catalysts are two efficient tactics to boost the photocatalytic activity of semiconductors. Combining these two strategies in one photocatalyst system has great potential to further enhance the catalytic performance. Herein, a facile and controllable atomic layer deposition (ALD)-reduction approach is used to simultaneously introduce Ni doping and Ni nanoparticles (NPs) with tunable size on CdS nanorods for boosting its photocatalytic activity. The Ni doping and Ni NPs synergistically enhance the H 2 production of CdS nanorods (NRs), achieving an optimized rate of 20.6 mmol·g −1 ·h −1 ~1.3- and 28.6-fold higher than CdS NRs supported Ni NPs with similar size and pristine CdS NRs , respectively. The Ni NPs/Ni doped CdS NRs exhibits an apparent quantum efficiency (AQE) of 37.5% at 420 nm, outperforming most previously reported Ni doped and Ni NPs decorated CdS catalysts. The outstanding photocatalytic activity of the Ni NPs/Ni doped CdS NRs can be ascribed to synergism of the Ni doping and uniformly dispersed Ni co-catalyst with appropriate size, which promote carrier separation of semiconductor and surface hydrogen evolution kinetics on nanocatalyst surface. This work provides a promising pathway to integrate heteroatom doping and loading of co-catalysts strategies in one photocatalyst system for synergistically promoting photocatalytic performance.

Synthesis and properties of a novel Ni–Co and Ni–Co/ZrO2 composite coating by DC electrodeposition

Baosong Li,Weiwei Zhang,Dandan Li

Ni–Co and Ni–Co/ZrO 2 composite coatings have been synthesized via a single-step direct current (DC) electrodeposition route as a protective coating. The influences of electrodeposition current density, time and ZrO 2 concentration on structural, composition and properties of Ni–Co coating were investigated. All coatings present compact, crack-free and nodular-like morphology in a nanocrystalline structure. Some aggregations still exist in the coating. The preferred orientation of these coatings changed from (200) to (111) texture with a fcc structure . The amount of Co in Ni–Co matrix slightly decreases as current density and time increases. The Co and ZrO 2 content in Ni–Co/ZrO 2 matrix increase with the increasing of ZrO 2 concentration in bath. Less than 60 min is beneficial for low roughness of Ni–Co/ZrO 2 coating. Current density, deposition time and ZrO 2 embedded in metallic matrix affect the hardness of Ni–Co alloy. Ni–Co/ZrO 2 coating has enhanced hardness compared to Ni–Co ones. Although they might not exhibit the best corrosion resistance in the initial immersing stage, Ni–Co/ZrO 2 composite coating obtained at 2 – 4 A dm −2 with 5–10 g L -1 ZrO 2 presents the better corrosion resistance and desirable performance stability during the long-term immersion process in aggressive media. The Ni–Co/ZrO 2 coating exhibits promising advantages as a protective coating.
