A simple and sensitive voltammetric sensor for Orange II was developed, based on a poly(sodium p-styrenesulfonate)-functionalized graphene-modified glassy carbon electrode. This voltammetric sensor showed strong accumulation ability and an excellent voltammetric response for Orange II. The electrochemical behavior of Orange II was systematically investigated in a pH 7.0 phosphate buffer solution. By linear sweep voltammetry, under optimum conditions, a good linear relationship was obtained between peak currents and Orange II concentrations in the wider range of 3 × 10−8 to 5 × 10−6 mol/L, with an LOD of 1 × 10−8 mol/L. In addition, the proposed Orange II sensor was successfully applied to real food samples with satisfactory recovery.

A new catalyst system of CoP/peroxymonosulfate (PMS) is presented, which achieved significant improvement in catalytic activity. Nanostructured CoP, obtained by a simple solid-state reaction, exhibited dramatic catalytic activity with 97.2% degradation of orange II of 100 ppm within 4 min. Moreover, the high efficiency could be reached for other phenolic pollutants, i.e., phenol and 4-chlorophenol. The reaction rate is much higher than the most reported catalysts. Effect of parameters on catalytic activity of the catalyst was studied in detail. Notably, initial pH of the solution had a slight negative effect on the catalytic performance over the pH range 4.07–10.92, suggesting that CoP has the great adaptability of pH. CoP/PMS demonstrated excellent anti-interference performance toward anions (Cl − , NO 3 − , and HCO 3 − ). In addition, the pathway of degradation of orange II is proposed by analyzing its intermediates. Based on the XPS spectra of CoP, the identification of the reactive species ( OH and SO 4 − ) by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis and quenching tests, a possible mechanism for activation of PMS by CoP was proposed. Considering the dramatic catalytic activity, a wide range of pH catalyst suited, CoP is believed to provide robust support for the promising industrial application of AOPs.

Fe-based metal-organic frameworks(Fe(III)-MOFs)were synthesized by Fe 2 (SO 4 ) 3 and trimesic acid using microwave-assisted ball milling method. The structure of the Fe(III)-MOFs was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR). The thermostability of the MOFs was analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Fe(III)-MOFs were added in aqueous solutions to remove organic dyes. The removal efficiencies of Orange II, CR and MB reached 95.9%, 98.7%, 95.7% respectively at 10℃ and reached 97.7%, 99.7%, 97.5% respectively at 35℃ in 300 min.

In this work, zero-valent iron particles supported on nitrogen doped porous carbon (Fe-NPC) was successfully prepared by a green and convenient one-pot method through pyrolysis. In Fe-NPC/PS system, 96.44% orange II (OGII) was almost removed within 35 min, which was much higher than NPC and Fe-PC of 53.27% and 54.67%, respectively. Factors influencing the degradation process of OGII were investigated, including PS concentration, catalyst dosage, initial pH and ions disturbance. The radical quenching studies, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements and chronoamperometry experiments verified the degradation mechanism of OGII in Fe-NPC/PS system included both radical and non-radical pathways in which • HO and SO 4 -· were the dominant active radicals and electron transfer was involved. Fe-NPC exhibited excellent tolerance toward a wide pH conditions with only 88 µg/L iron leaching in initial pH of 3.1, which was much lower than literature reported. The low iron leaching of Fe-NPC was attributed to the protection of carbon matrix and doped nitrogen in catalyst. Moreover, the surface C O group of the catalyst contributed to better performance in alkaline system. Furthermore, the supported iron species introduced magnetism into the catalyst for easily separation. The Fe-NPC/PS system also exhibited high removal efficiencies for Congo red (CR), Reactive blue 19 (RB 19), 4-Nitrophenol (4-NP) and tetracycline (TC). These results provided a sight for economically and efficiently fabricating stable iron based nitrogen doped porous carbon catalyst for water contaminant degradation.

Simple-controlled synthesis of multiple porous and monodisperse cobalt-iron oxides were realized by varying the prepared conditions via a template-assisted glycol solvothermal process. The obtained materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Mössbauer spectroscopy and nitrogen adsorption/desorption measurement. It was found that the amounts of metal precursors and the Co:Fe ratio significantly influenced the morphology, the crystallinity, as well as the textural and electronic properties of the cobalt-iron products. The different cobalt-iron oxides with various shells were employed into the catalytic activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for Orange II degradation, among which, multi-shelled cobalt ferrite microsphere was certified to perform the best activity due to the coefficient contribution of higher content of octahedral Co 2+ , more exposed active sites and the reservoir effect. Sulfate and hydroxyl radicals were crucial reactive species in Orange II degradation, proved by the scavenger quenching test. This work shows that cobalt-iron oxide microspheres with such architecture make differences in the PMS-mediated aqueous organics degradation system, which extends the perspective and application of such functional oxides in the environmental field.
