Seeking a multifunctional electrocatalyst composed of earth-abundant elements for highly hydrogen and oxygen evolution reaction and oxygen reduction reaction (HER, OER and ORR) is technically imperative for the electrocatalytic applications. Herein, we report HER , OER and ORR electrocatalytic performances of metal-organic framework (MOF) derived cobalt nanoparticles encapsulated in nitrogen-doped carbon and carbon nanotube (Co@NC/CNT). The optimized Co@NC/CNT hybrid shows superior HER and OER activities with a small overpotential of 137 mV and 302 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm −2 , respectively. Furthermore, the Co@NC/CNT as an air-cathode in secondary Zn-air battery demonstrates a confined potential gap of 0.88 V over 200 h and a maximum power density of 53.4 mW cm −2 , which are much better than those of Pt/C. The outstanding performances are attributed to the synergistic effects from Co, and N embedded into carbon and CNT. More importantly, the unique surface structure contributes to expose many active sites for superior catalytic activity through allowing a large number of electrons. These outcomes not only prove a facile approach for the preparation of metals/carbon hybrid but also disclose its huge possible as a multifunctional electrocatalyst for sustainable energy systems .

The development of an ultrasensitive and precise measurement of a breast cancer biomarker (cancer antigen 15-3; CA15-3) in complex human serum is essential for the early diagnosis of cancer in groups of healthy populations and the treatment of patients. However, currently available testing technologies suffer from insufficient sensitivity toward CA15-3, which severely limits early large-scale screening of breast cancer patients. We report a versatile electrochemical immunoassay method based on atomically cobalt-dispersed nitrogen-doped carbon (Co-NC)–modified disposable screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) with alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and its metabolite, ascorbic acid 2-phosphate (AAP), as the electrochemical labeling and redox signaling unit for sensitive detection of low-abundance CA15-3. During electrochemical detection by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), it was found that the Co-NC-SPCE electrode did not have a current signal response to the AAP substrate; however, it had an extremely favorable response current to ascorbic acid (AA). Based on the above principle, the target CA15-3-triggered immunoassay enriched ALP-catalyzed AAP produces a large amount of AA, resulting in a significant change in the system current signal, thereby realizing the highly sensitive detection of CA15-3. Under the optimal AAP substrate concentration and ALP catalysis time, the Co-NC-SPCE-based electrochemical immunoassay demonstrated a good DPV current for CA15-3 in the assay interval of 1.0 mU/mL to 10,000 mU/mL, with a calculated limit of detection of 0.38 mU/mL. Since Co-NC-SPCE has an excellent DPV current response to AA and employs split-type scheme, the constructed electrochemical immunoassay has the merits of high preciseness and anti-interference, and its clinical diagnostic results are comparable to those of commercial kits. The indoor low-concentration formaldehyde (HCHO) removal in cobalt-based catalysts is still a “hot potato”. In this work, metal–organic-frameworks (MOF)-derived and Zinc (Zn)-modulated new cobalt nanoparticles catalyst (CZ-Co@NC-800) was designed and prepared. The CZ-Co@NC-800 performed outstanding elimination activities for ~1 ppm HCHO at 25 °C. In the static test condition, it achieves complete HCHO removal in 3 h at a relative humidity (RH) of ~55%. Moreover, 90.18% HCHO removal ratio is held after five recycle tests. In the dynamic test condition, it remains the characteristic to eliminate around 95.89% of HCHO within 8 h under an RH of ~55% and a gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of ~150,000 mL·h −1 g −1 . Such advanced results should be ascribed to large specific surface area bringing about more cobalt active sites; and it is also because residual Zn metal affects the electronic structure of CZ-Co@NC-800 and enhance the surface charge transfer rate, thus the activation and dissociation ability of oxygen is promoted. Besides, a short HCHO reaction path over CZ-Co@NC-800 which was clarified by the In situ DRIFTs is also a reason for excellent catalytic performance. This work represents a crucial addition to expand the family of cobalt-based catalysts for indoor HCHO elimination.

Exploring high-efficiency, low-cost, and long-life bifunctional self-supporting electrocatalysts is of great significance for the practical application of advanced rechargeable Zn-air batteries (ZABs), especially flexible solid-state ZABs. Herein, ultrathin CoFe-layered double hydroxide (CoFe-LDH) nanosheets are strongly coupled on the surface of leaf-like bimetallic metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)-derived hybrid carbon (Co@NC) nanoflake nanoarrays supported by carbon cloth (CC) via a facile and scalable method for rechargeable and flexible ZABs. This interfacial engineering for CoFe-LDHs on Co@NC improves the electronic conductivity of CoFe-LDH nanosheets as well as achieves the balance of oxygen evolution reduction (OER) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity. The unique three-dimensional (3D) open interconnected hierarchical structure facilitates the transport of substances during the electrochemical process while ensuring adequate exposure of OER/ORR active centers. When applied as an additive-free air cathode in rechargeable liquid ZABs, CC/Co@NC/CoFe-LDH-700 demonstrates high open-circuit potential of 1.47 V, maximum power density of 129.3 mW cm−2, and satisfactory specific capacity of 710.7 mAh g−1Zn. Further, the flexible all-solid-state ZAB assembled by CC/Co@NC/CoFe-LDH-700 displays gratifying mechanical flexibility and stable cycling performance over 40 h. More significantly, the series-connected flexible ZAB is further verified as a chain power supply for LED strips and performs well throughout the bending process, showing great application prospects in portable and wearable electronics. This work sheds new light on the design of high-performance self-supporting non-precious metal bifunctional electrocatalysts for OER/ORR and air cathodes for rechargeable ZABs.Keywords:carbon fiber;bifunctional electrocatalysts;bimetallic MOFs;self-supporting electrodes;Zn-air battery

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries receive considerable attention for their high energy density, but their slow reaction kinetics and poor shuttle effects raise concerns. Here, synthesized V 2 O 3 spheres were used as substrate templates, and ZIF-67 particles were grown on the surface of V 2 O 3 by in-situ growth method. ZIF-67 was calcined at high temperature to form N-doped porous carbon attached to the surface of V 2 O 3 spheres (Co-NC@V 2 O 3 -sp). The hollow structure of V 2 O 3 spheres provided abundant buffer space for sulfur volume expansion and enhanced the stability of the battery cycle. In addition, the great pore volume and specific surface area resulted in abundant active physical and chemical sites, the strong chemical adsorption of V 4+ effectively trapped polysulfides , and the cobalt nanoparticles on the surface effectively consolidated the active sites. The rapid transformation between shuttle effect and polysulfides were limited by physical coordination and chemisorption, respectively. Owing to this double synergistic effect, the prepared composites had an initial discharge capacity of 1483 mAh g −1 (0.1 C). The initial specific capacity reached 1002 mAh g −1 (0.5 C), and it achieved 645 mAh g −1 after 500 cycles. These results showed that Co-NC@V 2 O 3 -sp has high electrochemical function in Li-S batteries.
