Here, we report a controllable strategy for fabricating monodispersed microspheres composed of poly(butyl methacrylate) (BMA) and silane-modified Cu/Ni-embedded metal-organic framework (MOF)-TiO₂ composites (denoted as BMA@Cu/Ni@MOF-TiO₂ microsphere) for efficient photocatalytic degradation. Monodispersed oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion templates are prepared by a microfluidic device, which contain silane-modified Cu/Ni@MOF-TiO2 in oil phase. Utilizing benzildimethyl ketal (BDK) as a photoinitiator, porous microspheres can be obtained through a straightforward photopolymerization process initiated by ultraviolet light. When the concentration of the surfactant polyglycerol polyricinoleate (PGPR 90) is 14% (w/v) and the crosslinker trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TMPTMA) is 12% (w/v), the BMA@Cu/Ni@MOF-TiO2 microspheres have good monodispersity, and the average diameter is 180.7 μm and coefficient of variation (CV) is 3.64%. When silane-modified Cu/Ni@MOF-TiO2 loading is 0.4% (w/v), the removal rate to methylene blue (MB) is up to 96.2% in 20 min, which is higher than that of powdered (86.6%). Under the optimal conditions, the removal rate of methylene blue reached 99.3% within 50 minutes. Moreover, after 5 cycles of testing, the degradation efficiency remained above 97.94%,, which strongly demonstrated the reusability of BMA@Cu/Ni@MOF-TiO2 microspheres. The photocatalytic mechanism involves the generation of electron-hole pairs in Cu/Ni@MOF-TiO2 under light irradiation, which react with O2 to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) to degrad MB. The characterization results of XPS, and FTIR show that the silane-modified Cu/Ni@MOF-TiO2 is successfully loaded into the microspheres. BMA@Cu/Ni@MOF-TiO2 microspheres have a specific surface area of 5.962 m2/g and a specific volume of 2.491 cm3/g, providing sufficient diffusion channels and active sites for MB dyes. Therefore, BMA@Cu/Ni@MOF-TiO2 microspheres have excellent recyclability, high stability and attractive photocatalytic degradation efficiency, and show potential application prospects in the future treatment of dye wastewater.

In present work, a highly sensitive biosensor with high selectivity for glucose monitoring is developed based on novel nano-composites of nitrogen doped graphene quantum dots (N-GQDs) and a novel bimetallic Cu/Ni core-shell nanoparticles (CSNPs) (Cu@Ni CSNPs/N-GQDs NCs). With the tuned electronic properties, N-GQDs helped bimetallic core-shell structure nanomaterials from aggregation, and separate the charges generated at the interface. This novel nano-composites also have the good electrical conductivity of N-GQDs, catalyst property of Cu/Ni bimetallic nano composite, Cu@Ni core-shell structure and the synergistic effect of the interaction between bimetallic nano composite and N-GQDs. While modified the electrode with this novel nano-composites, the sensor’ linear range is 0.09 ~ 1 mM, and the limit of detection (LOD) is 1.5 μM (S/N = 3) with a high sensitivity of 660 μA mM -1 cm -2 , and rapid response time (3 s). Its’ LOD is more than 74 times lower than the traditional Cu@Ni CSNPs modified working electrode. It also has higher sensitivity and wider linear range. This indicates the great potential of applying this kind of nano composites in electrode modification.

The electrodeposition method was firstly applied to obtain uniform cube-shaped copper nanoparticles on conductive glass (ITO), and then a layer of tiny nickel nanoparticles. A bimetallic composite electrode (Cu−Ni/ITO), characterized by TEM, XPS and XRD, was prepared to construct the non-enzyme electrochemical glucose sensor with high catalytic activity. The catalytic performance of Cu−Ni/ITO had been greatly improved, probably due to the synergistic bimetallic catalysis effect. The electrode had a satisfactory linear response in the range of 2.5×10 −7 M to 2.6×10 −3 M, with detection limit as low as 67 nM. Besides, Cu−Ni/ITO had good anti-interference ability and reproducibility, indicating the promising application for glucose detection in practical samples.

Ultrasmall Cu/Ni-NiOx nanoparticles (NPs) had been successfully prepared by attaching and growing Ni-NiOx NPs on the surface of Cu NPs and then uniformly dispersed onto graphene (G) surface. High-angle annular dark-field–scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM) characterization confirmed that Ni-NiOx NPs were uniformly distributed on the surface of Cu NPs. The catalytic methanolysis of ammonia borane (AB) proved that Cu/Ni-NiOx NPs possessed high catalytic hydrogen (H2) evolution activity, and the highest turnover frequency (TOF) was 17.72 mol H2·mol–1 Cu·min–1. Comparative experiments revealed that the high catalytic activity originated from the abundant catalytic active sites of Cu/Ni-NiOx NPs. The attachment of Ni-NiOx on the surface of Cu NPs that dispersed on G (G-Cu/Ni-NiOx) can not only effectively improve the antioxidative performance of Cu NPs under ambient conditions but also promote the methanolysis of AB to produce H2.

Photothermal therapy (PTT) is an emerging field, and the photothermal agents could convert visible or near-infrared (NIR) radiation into heat to kill tumor cells. However, the low photothermal conversion efficiency of photothermal agents and their limited antitumor activities delay the development of these agents into monotherapies for cancer. Herein, we have fabricated an ultrasmall polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-Fe-Cu-Ni-S (PVP-NP) nano-agent via a simple hot injection method with an excellent photothermal conversion efficiency (~96%). Photothermal therapy with this nano-agent effectively inhibits tumor growth without apparent toxic side effects. Mechanistically, our results demonstrated that, after NIR irradiation, PVP-NPs can induce ROS/singlet oxygen generation, decrease mitochondrial membrane potential, and release extracellular Fe2+ and consume glutathione, triggering autophagy and ferroptosis of cancer cells. Moreover, PVP-NPs exhibit excellent contrast enhancement according to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) analysis. In summary, PVP-NPs have a high photothermal conversion efficiency and can be applied for MRI-guided synergistic photothermal/photodynamic/chemo-dynamic cancer therapy, solving the bottleneck of existing phototherapeutic agents.

Rational synthesis and development of earth-abundant materials with efficient electrocatalytic activity and stability for water splitting is a critical but challenging step for sustainable energy application . Herein, a family of bimetal (CoFe, CoCu, CoNi) embedded nitrogen-doped carbon frameworks is developed through a facile and simple thermal conversion strategy of metal-doped zeolitic imidazolate frameworks. Thanks to collaborative superiorities of abundant M-N-C species, modulation action of secondary metal, cobalt-based electroactive phases, template effect of MOFs and unique porous structure , bimetal embedded nitrogen-doped carbon frameworks materials manifest good oxygen and hydrogen evolution catalytic activity . Especially, after modulating the species and molar ratio of metal sources, optimal Co 0.75 Fe 0.25 nitrogen-doped carbon framework catalyst just requires a low overpotential of 303 mV to achieve 10 mA cm −2 with a low Tafel slope (39.49 mV dec −1 ) for oxygen evolution reaction , which even surpasses that of commercial RuO 2 . In addition, the optimal catalyst can function as an efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst for overall water splitting with satisfying activity and stability. This development offers an attractive direction for the rational design and fabrication of porous carbon materials for electrochemical energy applications.

Cu–Ni/γ-Al 2 O 3 bimetallic catalysts were developed for anaerobic dehydrogenation of non-activated primary aliphatic alcohols to aldehydes. Systematic investigation about the promotion effect of nickel on the catalytic performance was carried out. Hydrogenation of C=C bond rather than C=O bond, was significantly improved over Cu–Ni/γ-Al 2 O 3 catalyst by introducing nickel, which interprets the good conversion of primary aliphatic alcohols. This work would contribute to design new catalysts for dehydrogenation of primary aliphatic alcohols.

Photothermal catalytic CO 2 reduction can combine photocatalysis and thermal catalysis by using full-spectrum solar energy to convert CO 2 into high value-added chemicals. This can effectively alleviate the problems of excessive CO 2 emissions and thermal catalytic energy waste. In this paper, a novel catalyst was prepared using Ce-MOF as a precursor to generate Cu/Ni/CeO 2 for efficient reduction of CO 2 to CO by hydrogenation. Due to the rod-like structure of CeO 2 and the high dispersion of Cu and Ni nanoparticles, 10%Cu 5%Ni CeO 2 can achieve a catalytic activity of 54.21 mmol g −1 h −1 in the full solar spectrum. The supported Cu and Ni metals are the active sites for catalytic reduction. Meanwhile, Cu and Ni enhanced the light absorption ability of the catalyst and the surface temperature under illumination. This is due to the hot charge carriers generated by LSPR effect in Ni and Cu metal nanoparticles, which can dissipate energy through local heating, thus increasing the temperature of the catalyst under illumination. It can be found that the CO 2 reduction activity of photo-assisted thermocatalysis is higher than that of thermal catalysis under the same conditions. Therefore, the combined effect of the electrons generated by UV–Vis light and the heating effect of near-infrared light on catalyst could improve the catalytic activity. This work might provide a potential strategy for efficient photothermal reduction of CO 2 in the future.

Electrocatalytic nitrate (NO3−) reduction to ammonia (NH3) (NRA) is of great significance for solving the problem of urgent NO3− pollution in the environment and opening up a new route to synthesize NH3. However, NRA is limited by its multi-electron/proton transfer process and the NRA process relies heavily on atomic H* produced by H2O splitting, undergirding the necessity for effective NRA catalysts. Herein, three-dimensional (3D) porous phosphorus (P)-doped Cu–Ni alloy materials are constructed through a one-step electrodeposition synthesis. 3D porous materials modulate hydrophilicity and enrich active sites. The Cu d-band center can be tuned through Ni alloying to modify the adsorption energies of intermediates such as *NO3−, *NO2−, and *NH2. The hydrogenation evolution capacity of P promotes the hydrogenation process in the atomic H* path and effectively accelerates the NRA reaction rate. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrate that the charge transfer between the negatively charged Pδ− and the positively charged Niδ+ and Cuδ+ assists in generating more atomic H* for coupling with reaction intermediates, showing an enhanced catalytic activity at low overpotential. The optimal sample exhibits an exceptional NRA performance with an ammonia yield rate of 848.1 μmol h−1 cm−2 and a faradaic efficiency of 96.1%. This work provides a strategy for creating effective NRA catalysts through enhancing the atomic H* reduction strategy.

Cocatalysts play a pivotal role in enhancing the efficiency of photocatalytic water splitting. In this study, we introduced a novel and straightforward pre-impregnation strategy to anchor a CuNi dual cocatalyst onto the surface of Al-doped SrTiO 3 (Al-STO), coupled with photodeposition. This approach led to a remarkable 11.07-fold (77.5 µmol/h) increase in hydrogen evolution performance compared to the conventional photodeposition method for decorating with CuNi dual cocatalysts. Not only that, after the 18 h cycle experiment, the catalyst still maintains high activity and high stability similar to that of precious metals, which overcomes the defects of poor stability and short life of non-precious metals. This strategy capitalizes on the pre-adsorption of cocatalyst precursor ions on the Al-STO support via impregnation, enhancing both the adsorption energy and capacity between the precursor ions and the active sites. Detailed characterizations have revealed a strong electronic interaction within the Cu-Ni structure and improved interfacial coupling between CuNi and Al-STO. This not only significantly promotes charge separation and transfer but also provides a plethora of active sites for the photocatalytic generation of H 2 . Moreover, extensive theoretical calculations have provided deep insights into the reaction mechanism of the CuNi system and elucidated the reasons behind the varying degrees of activity enhancement across different cocatalyst architectural systems.

Catalytic steam gasification is a promising route for converting plastic waste into valuable gaseous products. This work explores the heterogeneous catalytic gasification behavior of polystyrene (PS) in a two-stage fixed bed system, as well as the promotion mechanism for the generation of gaseous hydrocarbons. The obtained results indicate that adding MnCo 2 O 4 catalyst can effectively promote the formation of gaseous hydrocarbons. Further, the incorporation of Cu strengthens the above reaction process, resulting in a yield of 85.08 mmol/g for the C 1 -C 3 gaseous hydrocarbons. However, the doping of Ni has a negative effect on the generation of gaseous hydrocarbons. Moreover, an increase in the flow rate of steam within the system results in an initial rise followed by a decline in the yield of gaseous hydrocarbons. The optimal steam inflow is determined at 0.14 mL/min. The cycling test results of the catalyst show that the yield of the gaseous components of C 1 -C 3 can still be maintained at about 80 % of the initial state after five cycles. Finally, the synergistic pathway of steam and catalyst in PS gasification is elucidated. These works provide important and valuable guidance for the preparation of high-value gas-phase hydrocarbon products from waste plastics.

Cu/Ni dual-layer coating is applied to improve the performance of SUS 430 steel as solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) interconnects. Cu layer is deposited by electroplating, followed by magnetron sputtering Ni layer on top of Cu layer. The coated steels are evaluated in air at 800 °C in correspondence with SOFC cathode environment. Results showed that a considerable amount of Ni diffuses into the steel substrate, while Fe and Cr diffuse from the steel substrate into the coating during the initial oxidation. A (Ni,Fe) 3 O 4 spinel layer is initially formed on the scale surface. Cu diffuses outwards and eventually dopes into (Ni,Fe) 3 O 4 spinel to form (Ni,Fe,Cu) 3 O 4 spinel. The oxide scale evolved into a dual-layer structure of an inner Cr 2 O 3 layer and an outer layer of NiO mixed with spinels after 5 weeks of oxidation. Preoxidation treatment in 800 °C air for electroplated Cu coated steel prior to depositing Ni layer improves oxidation resistance and significantly decreases Cr outward diffusion after 5 weeks of oxidation. Moreover, the oxide scales formed on both Cu/Ni and CuO/Ni coated steels maintain low area specific resistance (ASR) after 5 weeks of oxidation.
