A core-shell Si@C@FeCoNi anode with dual protective coating is rationally constructed. • Synchronous carbonization and alloying of Si@C@FeCoNi is achieved in one step. • The composite delivers a high initial Coulombic efficiency of 91%. • A high reversible capacity of 859.2 mAh g −1 is retained after 350 cycles at 2 A g −1 . • Synergistic effect of N-doped carbon and FeCoNi alloy ensures superior performance. To address severe volume variation upon charge/discharge cycling and inherent low electronic conductivity of silicon-based anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. A novel silicon‑carbon composite anode denoted Si@C@FeCoNi is rationally constructed, which features a dual protective coating consisting of polydopamine-derived N-doped carbon and FeCoNi ternary alloy nanoparticles. Polydopamine first undergoes self-polymerization on the surface of nanosized silicon and subsequently adsorbs Fe, Co and Ni metal cations. A one-step thermal treatment is then conducted under an Ar/H₂ atmosphere to realize synchronous carbonization and alloying. The as-prepared composite presents a distinct core-shell configuration, with silicon nanoparticles as the inner core and a homogeneous N-doped amorphous carbon as the outer shell. Abundant FeCoNi alloy nanoparticles with a face-centered cubic phase are uniformly embedded throughout the carbon matrix with particle sizes ranging from 5 to 10 nm. The obtained Si@C@FeCoNi composite delivers superior lithium storage performances with a high initial Coulombic efficiency of 91% and a high reversible capacity of 859.2 mAh g −1 after 350 long-term cycles at 2 A g −1 . Meanwhile, outstanding rate capability is realized, delivering a high capacity of 942 mAh g −1 at 5 A g −1 . The full cell paired with commercial NCM622 cathode demonstrates satisfactory cycling durability and application potential. This work offers a facile and effective structural modulation strategy toward advanced high-performance silicon-based anodes via multi-component synergistic engineering. Developing cost-effective, robust oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts for water electrolysis under harsh conditions remains challenging. Here, we report a one-step scalable synthesis of monolithic hierarchical FeCoNi (oxy)hydroxide nanotubes on Ni foam (H-FCNO(OH)@NF). This integrated electrode achieves exceptional OER robustness across a wide-temperature range (25-90 °C) and concentrated alkaline electrolytes (5–30 wt% KOH), delivering a low overpotential of 310 mV at 100 mA cm −2 and maintaining > 12 h stability at 100 mA cm −2 . Mechanistic studies reveal that Fe 3+ /thiourea co-mediates nanotube formation, while Co dopant-driven crystallization directs vertical nanosheet assembly. A full characterization on the catalyst after activation confirms preserved nanotube morphology, directly correlating structural integrity with catalytic durability. This work provides a facile, scalable route toward industrial-compatible OER electrodes for sustainable hydrogen production.

The excessive reliance on traditional fossil fuels has not only triggered an energy shortage crisis but also caused severe environmental pollution. These pollutants can significant accumulate via the process of bioaccumulation within the food chain, ultimately posing a serious threat to human health. Therefore, the development of efficient and precise water quality monitoring technologies is crucial for the prevention and control of environmental pollution. In this study, a g-C 3 N 4 -FeCoNi layered double hydroxide (LDH) heterostructure material (g-C 3 N 4 -LDH) was successfully synthesized using a one-step hydrothermal method. The formation of an n–n heterojunction between g-C 3 N 4 and LDH facilitates efficient interfacial charge transfer and structural stabilization, which is critical for bifunctional applications. Consequently, the constructed g-C 3 N 4 -LDH sensing platform exhibits good performance in 4-NP detection, with a sensitivity of 0.664 μA·μM −1 ·cm −2 , a linear response range of 5–800 μM, and a low detection limit of 0.67 μM (S/N = 3). Moreover, the platform demonstrates strong resistance to interference and excellent stability. Additionally, g-C 3 N 4 -LDH can completely degrade 4-NP within 10 min, effectively detoxifying the pollutants. This study offers new insights and a solid foundation for the rapid and accurate detection and treatment of water pollutants.

Ammonia is a promising carbon-neutral fuel, yet its application in protonic ceramic fuel cells (PCFCs) is hindered by the poor durability and catalytic efficiency of conventional Ni-based anodes. In this study, we present a novel time-phase-controlled exsolution strategy to fabricate a Sr2Fe1.5Mo0.35Co0.1Ni0.05O6−δ (SFMCN) perovskite anode catalytic layer (ACL). This approach enables the in situ formation of uniformly dispersed FeCoNi ternary alloy nanoparticles, sized between 20 to 40 nm, achieving an exceptionally high triple phase boundary areal density of 46.81 µm µm−2 through reduction-induced phase transformation. The ACL undergoes sequential phase evolution with prolonged reduction, where the Ruddlesden–Popper (R–P) perovskite phase content increases from 61.7 wt% to 70.8 wt%, accompanied by an increase in alloy nanoparticle content from 2.6 wt% to 3.2 wt%. The optimized PCFC exhibits complete (100%) ammonia decomposition at 700 °C while effectively protecting the Ni-based anode from corrosion. Moreover, it demonstrates superior power retention under ammonia compared to hydrogen, maintaining stable operation for over 100 hours at 650 °C. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the FeCoNi alloy features a tailored electronic structure with enhanced catalytic activity for ammonia decomposition. Additionally, the R–P perovskite phase within the ACL is identified as a potential proton conductor, facilitating effective coupling between the nanoparticles and the Ni-based anode. This study addresses critical challenges in ammonia-decomposing electrocatalysts and advances the development of efficient and durable direct-ammonia PCFCs.

Proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) holds substantial promise for effectively utilizing renewable energy to produce green hydrogen. However, it faces critical durability challenges due to acid-driven catalyst degradation under intermittent renewable power. Here, this study reports a dynamic dissolution-deposition equilibrium that achieves exceptional hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) stability through rational design of a high-entropy alloy-derived architecture. Dealloying FeCoNiNbPt HEA creates a porous scaffold with dual-functional components: an amorphous NbOx buffer suppressing metal dissolution, while multicomponent Pt 3 (FeCoNi) nanocrystals synergistically enhancing HER activity (137 mV@1 A cm −2 , 2.5 × lower than Pt/C) that thermodynamically favors redeposition. This dynamic self-adaptive mechanism maintains equilibrium under harsh operating conditions, demonstrating exceptional durability (>2200 h @1 A cm −2 and 1 000 000 cycles). The self-supported catalysts can be easily mass-produced with 8.87 wt.% Pt loading (60% reduction vs Pt/C), indicating its industrial applicability. The equilibrium-driven design paradigm opens new avenues for industrial proton-exchange-membrane devices operating under fluctuating power.

Overcoming the challenge of decoupling impedance matching from attenuation for low-frequency (2–10 GHz) electromagnetic wave absorption, this work presents a defect-engineered multiphase medium-entropy sulfide composite. Synthesized via integrated mechanical alloying and surfactant-assisted hydrothermal sulfidation, the composite integrates sulfur vacancy-rich (Fe,Co,Ni) 9 S 8 , anisotropic FeCoNi alloy, CoFe₂O₄, and porous MoS 2 . This architecture creates abundant heterogeneous interfaces and interfacial sulfur vacancies, significantly enhancing defect-induced polarization and dielectric loss via the “Janus effect.” Concurrently, the magnetic components boost magnetic loss while optimizing impedance matching. Benefiting from this magneto-dielectric synergy, the composite achieves exceptional absorption: a minimum reflection loss ( RL min ) of -50.4 dB at 3.96 GHz and a remarkable RL min -77.5 dB at 9 GHz. Radar cross-section simulations confirm application potential. This work provides strategic insights for designing innovative low-/mid-frequency absorbers through synergistic dielectric-magnetic loss in polymetallic sulfide heterostructures.
