Encapsulation carbon QDs in In-MIL-68 to derive carbon QDs@In2S3 tube for photoreduction of Cr(VI)

Meng Chen,Chao Wang,Lei Wang,Jixiang Xu

In this work, carbon quantum dots@In 2 S 3 hollow tube (CQDs@In 2 S 3 ) with sheet-like hierarchical structure was synthesized by sulfidation CQDs@In-MIL-68. The CQDs@In 2 S 3 -2 exhibited the optimal Cr(VI) reductive ratio of nearly 100% after 45 min light irradiation in solution with pH of 4. The enhanced Cr(VI) reduction activity was ascribed to the efficient separation of electrons and holes after coupling of CQDs. The ·O 2 − was the dominant active specie to reduce Cr(VI), and possible mechanism was proposed. This work provides thought for design of high-performance photocatalysts by loading electron-collecting species to remove environmental pollutants .

Enhanced catalytic performance of peroxydisulfate activation for Rhodamine B degradation over a novel MIL-68(Fe)/CuBi2O4 catalyst

Cheng Peng,Xinyu Chen,Yu Yang,Feiyang Luo,Xuehui He,Yan Yu,Qiao Deng,Tianding Hu,Shaoyun Shan,Yunfei Zhi,Lihong Jiang,Hongying Su

The development of advanced strategy to activate persulfate for wastewater treatment is an ever-hot research topic. Herein, a high-performance composite catalyst MIL-68(Fe)/CuBi 2 O 4 (30 %) (M-CBO-30) was prepared by in-situ synthesizing MIL-68(Fe) in the CuBi 2 O 4 . The catalytic performances of M-CBO-30 as heterogeneous catalyst to activate PDS for the Rhodamine B (RhB) degradation were systematically studied. It was shown that the M-CBO-30/PDS system presented an ultrahigh RhB degradation efficiency which could remove 100 % RhB within 5 min only using 0.4 g L − 1 catalyst and 0.4 mM PDS. In addition, the M-CBO-30 could remove RhB at a wide pH range (2–10). One should note that the M-CBO-30 exhibited outstanding reusability which afforded high degradation efficiency after 5 successive recycles. And the catalyst structure remained still after being used for 5 catalytic cycles. Heavy metal ions leaching experiment indicated that Cu 2+ leaching concentration of M-CBO-30 was far lower than that of the city water criterion in Europe. The RhB degradation mechanism by M-CBO-30/PDS system was proposed based on the result of electrochemical experiment, radical quenching test, electron paramagnetic resonance and XPS analysis. The RhB degradation was attributed to the oxidization of reactive oxygen species (i.e., SO 4 •− , •OH and 1 O 2 ). The synergistic effect of redox cycle of surface Fe, Bi and Cu were responsible for the high-efficient PDS activation. The excellent recyclability, outstanding structural stability, wide pH application range, less heavy metal leaching and superhigh RhB degradation efficiency highlights the light application prospect of M-CBO-30 in SR-AOPs-driven RhB decontamination.

Efficient Visible-Light Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution over the In2O3@Ni2P Heterojunction of an In-Based Metal–Organic Framework

Yi-Shan Ouyang,Yu Jiang,Shuang Ni,Run-Yuan Jiang,Jian Wang,Wen-Bin Wang,Wei Zhang,Qing-Yuan Yang

Although the engineering of visible-light-driven photocatalysts with appropriate bandgap structures is beneficial for generating hydrogen (H2), the construction of heterojunctions and energy band matching are extremely challenging. In this study, In2O3@Ni2P (IO@NP) heterojunctions are attained by annealing MIL-68(In) and combining the resulting material with NP via a simple hydrothermal method. Visible-light photocatalysis experiments validate that the optimized IO@NP heterojunction exhibits a dramatically improved H2 release rate of 2485.5 μmol g–1 h–1 of 92.4 times higher than that of IO. Optical characterization reveals that the doping of IO with an NP component promotes the rapid separation of photo-induced carriers and enables the capture of visible light. Moreover, the interfacial effects of the IO@NP heterojunction and synergistic interaction between IO and NP that arises through their close contact mean that plentiful active centers are available to reactants. Notably, eosin Y (EY) acts as a sacrificial photosensitizer and has a significant effect on the rate of H2 generation under visible light irradiation, which is an aspect that needs further improvement. Overall, this study describes a feasible approach for synthesizing promising IO-based heterojunctions for use in practical photocatalysis.

A Novel 2-Chloro-4-Nitrophenol Photoelectrochemical Sensor Based on MWCNTs@MIL-68(In) Derivatives and In2O3 Composite Films

Chenxi Wang,Linzi Huang,Yixi Xie,Pengcheng Zhao,Junjie Fei

2-Chloro-4-nitrophenol (2C4NP) is a traditional organic pollutant whose toxicity constitutes a significant threat to both human health and environmental safety. Therefore, developing a method for the accurate detection of 2C4NP in natural environments is imperative. Consequently, we develop a photoelectrochemical sensing platform based on MWCNTs@In2S3/In2O3/GCE in this work. During the construction process, it is discovered that the introduction of MWCNTs accelerated the electron transport rate, which improved the separation efficiency of photogenerated electron–hole pairs in In2S3. Meanwhile, the MWCNTs@In2S3/In2O3 composite materials formed by MWCNTs@In2S3 and In2O3 not only exhibit an S-scheme heterojunction but also preserve the intrinsic advantages of MOFs-derived materials. This synergistic structure endows the composite materials with excellent optoelectronic performance and adsorption capability. Thus, the constructed photoelectrochemical sensing platform demonstrates promising potential for detecting 2C4NP, with a linear detection range from 3 nM to 5 μM. However, compared to some existing platforms, its detection range remains relatively narrow, which may represent an area for future improvement.

Engineering interfacial charge transfer in a MIL-68(In)/In2S3 heterojunction for highly efficient visible-light-driven Cr(VI) reduction

Xiaobin Zhou,Xin Wang,Mei Wang,Chenyu Zhou,Yinming Fan,Yinian Zhu,Shengpeng Mo,Yanan Zhang,Lihao Zhang,Yijian Zhong,Zongqiang Zhu

Photocatalytic reduction represents a promising strategy for remediating toxic hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) pollution. MIL-68(In), a typical In-based metal-organic framework, is a potential photocatalyst for this purpose. However, its efficiency is often hampered by the rapid recombination of photogenerated charge carriers and a narrow visible-light response. To address these limitations, we fabricated a MIL-68(In)/In 2 S 3 n-n heterojunction by controllably growing In 2 S 3 on the MOF substrate, aiming to achieve highly efficient Cr(VI) reduction. Under optimized reaction conditions (pH = 4, temperature 25 °C, catalyst dosage 0.2 g·L −1 , initial Cr(VI) concentration 20 mg·L −1 ), the optimized MIL-68(In)/In 2 S 3 composite achieved a Cr(VI) reduction efficiency of 94.44 % within 30 min of visible light irradiation, significantly outperforming its individual components while exhibiting excellent stability and recyclability. A series of photoelectrochemical and radical trapping experiments were conducted to reveal the enhanced mechanism of photocatalytic Cr(VI) reduction. The formed heterojunction interface broadened visible-light absorption and exhibited excellent interfacial charge transfer capability and, driven by a built-in electric field, facilitated the spatial separation of charge carriers. Consequently, photogenerated electrons migrated from MIL-68(In) and accumulate on In 2 S 3 , directly reducing Cr(VI) to Cr(III). Simultaneously, some electrons participated in the generation of superoxide radicals (•O 2 - ), which synergistically contributed to the reduction process. This work provided an effective heterojunction photocatalyst for Cr(VI) wastewater treatment and offered valuable insights for the design of MOF-based photocatalytic systems.

The photocatalytic degradation performance and mechanism of rod-like hollow derivatives from Co-doped MIL-68(In) under visible light

Xiaolan Guo,Xiaoman Li,Yuxin Huang,Yongjun Peng,Tongke Hu,Yazhen Chen,Jianhua Cheng

In this study, we synthesized a convenient and efficient composite photocatalyst, In 2 O 3 /Co 3 O 4 from the pyrolysis of Co-doped MIL-68(In). Structural characterization indicates that the composite material exhibited a rod-like hollow structure, thus increasing the specific surface area. Meanwhile, In 2 O 3 /Co 3 O 4 forms a PN heterojunction, which reduces the recombination rate of photogenerated hole-electron pairs. Moreover, the visible light absorption ability of this material is enhanced and it has good catalytic properties. Under visible light, the removal rate of tetracycline (TC) reaches 94% by the In 2 O 3 /Co 3 O 4 in 90 min, and the reaction constant is 0.02393 min −1 , which is 6.86 and 5.56 times of the single component In 2 O 3 and Co 3 O 4 , respectively. As shown by free radical quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) test, h + and •O 2 − play an important role in degrading TC into small molecule intermediates in the catalytic process.

MOF-derived synthesis of mesoporous In/Ga oxides and their ultra-sensitive ethanol-sensing properties

Y. F. Cui,W. Jiang,S. Liang,L. F. Zhu,Y. W. Yao

A series of In/Ga-based MIL-68s, with batch molar ratios of In(III) to Ga(III) (In/Ga ratio) equaling 5 : 0, 4 : 1, 3 : 2, 1 : 1, 2 : 3, 1 : 4, and 0 : 5, were solvothermally prepared. Calcinating the as-prepared MOFs at 500 °C for 3 h produced a series of mesoporous In/Ga oxides (IGOs) of hexagonal morphology with a characteristic main pore radius of 3 nm to 12 nm, and a specific surface area of up to 60–135 m2 g−1. Studies on the ethanol gas-sensing properties of the as-prepared IGOs revealed that the two IGOs produced from MIL-68 with In/Ga ratios of 3 : 2 and 1 : 1 present high response values of 80–110 towards 300 ppm ethanol and a low detection limit of no more than 2 ppm. However, the response value of In2O3, produced from MIL-68 with an In/Ga ratio of 5 : 0, was 11 towards 300 ppm ethanol. At the same time, the two IGO samples exhibited a high response to ethanol, which was more than 2.6 times higher than response values towards CH3CHO, CH3COCH3, H2, CO, CH4, and NO2, at a concentration of 300 ppm. This gas-sensing performance is suggested to be attributed to their comparatively larger specific surface area, and remarkable oxygen vacancy capabilities.

Zn doped In2O3 microtubes derived from zinc nitrate solution etched MIL-68-In for enhancing NO2 sensing property at room temperature

Yan Jiang,Yuying Xin,Hui Zhao,Xianfa Zhang,Ping Wang,Rui Gao,Yingming Xu,Shan Gao,Xiaoli Cheng,Lihua Huo

The reasonable design and preparation of high-performance sensing materials for detecting NO 2 is of importance to environmental conservation and public health. Herein, porous Zn-doped In 2 O 3 microtubes were fabricated by simple Zn(NO 3 ) 2 solution etching of In-MOF microrods, followed by calcination at 500 ℃ in air. The experiment has confirmed that appropriate amount of Zn introduced into In 2 O 3 can optimize electronic structure, increase the number of oxygen vacancy and efficiently improve NO 2 sensing property. In particular, compared with pristine In 2 O 3 , Zn-In 2 O 3 sensor exhibits excellent selectivity, high response, fast recovery speed (32 s) and lower limit of detection (LOD, 20 ppb) at room temperature. Meanwhile, the Zn-In 2 O 3 sensor also presents outstanding reproducibility, stability and humidity resistance. The excellent gas sensing property is traced to the construction of the hollow and porous structure and the synergistic optimization of Zn doping. This endeavor yields a simple strategy for the design of high-property gas sensing materials.

Visible light activated Zinc-doped MIL-68(In)-derived indium oxide nanotubes for rapid and ultra-sensitive room-temperature NO2 detection

Fanjian Meng,Yongrui Li,Chenshuai Han,Zhaorui Zhang,Xiaohui Yan,Minghui Yang

Highly-sensitive NO 2 gas sensors based on metal oxide semiconductors (MOS) are promising but often limited by poor sensing-recovery characteristics and high operating temperatures. Herein, we address these challenges by combining Zn doping modification with mild visible light activation, effectively tuning the electronic and chemical properties of MIL-68(In)-derived In 2 O 3 nanotubes (NTs), providing an advanced approach to realize rapid recovery towards sub-ppm NO 2 at room temperature (RT). The optimized 5 at% Zn-doped In 2 O 3 (Zn x In 2-x O 3 (x = 0.10)) NTs achieves an exceptional response of 15,257 toward 10 ppm NO 2 under dark condition and a rapid 4 s recovery under visible light irradiation at RT. Additionally, the sensor exhibits superior NO 2 selectivity, excellent reproducibility and long-term stability over 36 days. The enhanced sensing performance is driven by the mesoporous frameworks which enhance free electrons transfer in the modulated energy-level structure and introduce abundant photo-induced holes via visible light irradiation at the sensing-recovery stage. This work offers new insights into surface chemistry modulation in MOS nanomaterials, advancing the development of cost-effective and low-energy-consumption room-temperature NO 2 sensors.

Fabrication of Pd/In2O3 Nanocatalysts Derived from MIL-68(In) Loaded with Molecular Metalloporphyrin (TCPP(Pd)) Toward CO2 Hydrogenation to Methanol

Zhongjie Cai,Meng Huang,Jiajun Dai,Guowu Zhan,Fu-li Sun,Gui-Lin Zhuang,Yiying Wang,Pan Tian,Bin Chen,Shafqat Ullah,Jiale Huang,Qingbiao Li

Methanol synthesis from CO2 hydrogenation with H2 produced from renewable energy has emerged as a promising method for carbon neutrality. The supported Pd/In2O3 catalyst has attracted great attention due to its superior activity and methanol selectivity, but the formation of the In–Pd bimetallic phase upon over-reduction would lead to quick catalyst deactivation. In this work, we elucidate the reduction behavior of Pd/In2O3 catalysts by using TCPP(Pd)@MIL-68(In) as precursors. During catalyst fabrication, metalloporphyrins (viz., TCPP(Pd)) served as both a capping agent for the growth of MIL-68(In) and a shuttle for transporting the Pd2+, which enhanced the dispersion of Pd0 species on In2O3–x during the calcination and reduction treatments and prevented the formation of In–Pd bimetallic phase by over-reduction. With a low Pd loading of 0.53 wt %, the resultant Pd/In2O3 catalyst exhibited a maximum methanol space–time yield of 81.1 gMeOH h–1 gPd–1 with a CO2 conversion of 8.0% and a methanol selectivity of 81% over 50 h on stream (295 °C, 3.0 MPa, 19,200 mL gcat–1 h–1). In contrast, the comparative Pd/In2O3 catalyst prepared by the impregnation of PdCl2 in MIL-68(In) showed poor activity and stability due to the formation of InPd/In2O3–x surface structures. In addition, we found a strong connection between the reduced degree of In2O3 and the catalytic performance of the supported Pd/In2O3 catalysts by integrating catalyst characterization results with density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Interestingly, the surface In/O ratio detected by XPS can reflect information about both metal–support interaction and the amount of oxygen vacancy, which is highly related to the catalytic activity. The DFT calculation also shows that the Pd/In2O3 catalyst has excellent thermodynamic selectivity for the CH3OH product. This work provides an alternative synthetic strategy for Pd/In2O3 nanocatalysts and sheds light on the deactivation mechanism of the supported catalysts.

A direct Z-scheme MoS2/NH2-MIL-68(In)-derived In2S3 photocatalyst for efficient photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI) under visible-light irradiation

Chumin Yan,Xiaoli Dong,Yu Wang,Nan Zheng,Hongchao Ma,Xiufang Zhang

Inorganic semiconductors prepared from MOFs as sacrificial precursors are promising photocatalytic materials. In this work, the direct Z -scheme MoS 2 /NH 2 -MIL-68(In)-derived In 2 S 3 (MoS 2 /In 2 S 3 ) heterojunction composites have been synthesized by sulfidation treatment of MoS 2 /NH 2 -MIL-68(In) (MoS 2 /NM68) composites. Morphological and crystal structural results confirmed that MoS 2 was uniformly dispersed in In 2 S 3 . According to the reduction for Cr(VI) experimental results, the photocatalytic performance of MoS 2 /In 2 S 3 heterojunction composite under visible light irradiation is significantly better than that of pristine MoS 2 and In 2 S 3 , respectively. In addition, the photocatalytic activities of the MoS 2 /In 2 S 3 (II) at different pH and high concentrations of Cr(VI) were also investigated. This paper presents a novel approach to the construction of heterojunction photocatalytic materials using MOFs as sacrificial precursors.

Preparation of MIL-68@Fe3O4@PVDF composites via the spray phase inversion method and their magnetic solid-phase extraction of parabens and bisphenol A

Xinwen Hu,Yong Zhang,Zhihao Chen,Mengqian Xiao,Litao Wang,Guihua Gao

In this study, the spray phase inversion method was employed for the first time to prepare MIL-68@Fe3O4@PVDF. The preparation process involved dispersing Fe3O4 in a PVDF/DMF solution; when the Fe3O4-loaded PVDF solution was atomized and sprayed into ethanol containing dispersed MIL-68, PVDF underwent phase inversion to form magnetic solid microspheres, with MIL-68 simultaneously immobilized on their surface. The procedure is facile, convenient, and suitable for the synthesis of various magnetic composites. The MIL-68@Fe3O4@PVDF composite exhibited favorable adsorption performance toward methylene blue (MB). The adsorption kinetics and isotherm data were well fitted to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the Langmuir isotherm model, respectively, indicating monolayer chemisorption on homogeneous adsorption sites. Based on this, a magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) method coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was established using MIL-68@Fe3O4@PVDF as the adsorbent for the determination of five parabens and bisphenol A (BPA) in water samples. After optimizing the MSPE conditions, the established method showed a good linear relationship for parabens and BPA in the concentration range of 1.5–400.0 ng mL−1 (r > 0.9996). It also achieved low limits of detection (LODs, 0.4–1.0 ng mL−1) and limits of quantitation (LOQs, 1.3–4.0 ng mL−1), along with high spiked recoveries (80.0–107.3%) and acceptable precision (RSD ≤ 8.81%). In conclusion, the spray phase inversion method provides a simple and efficient strategy for fabricating magnetic composites. Furthermore, it offers a novel approach to improve the application efficiency of nano-adsorbents in MSPE, laying a foundation for their broader use in the trace analysis of complex samples.
