Surfactant transport in porous media suffers from severe non-target loss. • A PS/PEGDA microcapsule system enables pore-scale interfacial delivery. • Oil contact induces microcapsule release and localized surfactant activation. • Carrier-mediated transport enhances flow redistribution and oil recovery. Transporting active agents to fluid-fluid interfaces within heterogeneous porous media remains challenging because dissolved species follow preferential flow pathways, undergo non-target loss during transport, and therefore act inefficiently at the confined interfacial regions where they are needed. Here, we develop oil-responsive microcapsules with a polystyrene/poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PS/PEGDA) composite shell as a model platform for spatially interfacial delivery in multiphase porous media. Microfluidic fabrication produces monodisperse microcapsules with a tunable shell architecture, and the shell governs the trade-off between payload preservation during aqueous transport and oil-contact-induced release through enlarged shell pores due to PS dissolution. The microcapsules remain stable in saline, yet undergo interfacial localization upon oil exposure. Dynamic interfacial-tension measurements show that the petroleum-brine interfacial tension decreases from 28 mN/m to approximately 9.7 mN/m within 30 min after microcapsule addition, confirming interfacial activation upon arrival at the interfaces. Dynamic interfacial tension measurements and image velocimetry support the formation of local interfacial tension gradients and Marangoni-related interfacial convection, while apparent retention energy analysis indicates that interfacial trapping remains favorable after capsule contact. This effect enhances local flow perturbation after capsule arrival, assisting capsule migration toward the interface. In visualized micromodel experiments, surfactant-loaded microcapsules increase the oil recovery and produce a wide flow-field distribution through microparticle image velocimetry. These results demonstrate that carrier performance arises from the coupling of transport stability, interfacial localization, structural activation, and pore-scale accessibility rather than from interfacial tension reduction alone. This work establishes a general shell architecture-based framework for designing spatially selective delivery in multiphase porous transport. Poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA)-based gel polymer electrolytes (GPEs) offer several advantages for high-voltage lithium metal batteries (LMBs). However, the limited Li + transport capability hinders the wide application of PEGDA. A cross-linked GPE consisting of PEGDA and acrylonitrile (AN) (designated as PA11 electrolyte) is synthesized through molecular design to investigate the impact of AN incorporation on the PEGDA-based GPE. AN exhibits good compatibility with PEGDA, and the resulting cross-linked copolymer effectively reduces the crystallinity of GPE, thereby enhancing its Li + transport capability. At 25°C, the PA11 electrolyte exhibits high ionic conductivity (2.04 × 10 −4 S cm −1 ), broad electrochemical window (− 0.5 V to 5.32 V versus Li + /Li), and good stability towards lithium metal showing stable deposition and stripping of lithium for 1000 h. Additionally, LFP||Li cells assembled with designed PA11 electrolyte demonstrate discharge capacities of 150.4 mA h g −1 at 0.05 C and 122.9 mA h g −1 at 0.5 C. Moreover, the PA11 electrolyte can be applied in LMFP-based high-voltage LMBs with a capacity retention ratio of 84.9% after 20 cycles. Graphical Abstract

The solid electrolyte -is regarded as the proprietary electrolyte to solve the safety problem of high-energy-density lithium metal batteries (LMBs). Combined with the both advantages of inorganic ceramic and polymer electrolytes , the ceramic-in-polymer solid electrolyte of 15 wt% Li 0.33 La 0.557 TiO 3 -in-poly(vinylidene fluoride- co -hexafiuoropropylene) (LLTO-in-P(VdF-HFP)) is proposed. Since the severe lithiation reaction between LLTO ceramic and lithium metal anode , in situ polymerization of degradable poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) as protective layer on the surface lithium metal is constructed, which not only effectively avoids the side reaction, but also suppresses the growth of lithium dendrites . Under the premise of ensuring the safety of solid state LMBs, trace liquid electrolyte is added into the electrolyte/electrode interface to reduce solid-solid interfacial resistance . The unique design of solid electrolyte combined with protective lithium anode is beneficial to the stable cycling of Li||Li symmetric cells for more than 700 h under current density of 0.2 mA cm −2 , compared with only 200 h cycling life for the same electrolyte using the bare lithium anode. The assembled Li||LiNi 0.6 Co 0.2 Mn 0.2 O 2 full-cell exhibits a specific discharge capacity of 176 mAh g −1 at 0.2C rate between 3.0 and 4.35 V, maintaining 90.6% of initial capacity after 200 cycles. Therefore, the developed solid electrolyte with unique protected lithium anode exhibits potential application in high-energy-density solid LMBs.

Despite their potential to enhance safety and design flexibility in next-generation lithium batteries, particularly lithium-oxygen (Li-O 2 ) systems, solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) face persistent challenges of insufficient ionic conductivity and high interfacial resistance. To address these limitations, we developed a novel PEGDA-based quasi-solid-state electrolytes (QSEs) through in situ polymerization, strategically incorporating three functional additives: cellulose acetate (CA), N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), and fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC). The electrolyte design leverages multiple synergistic mechanisms: hydrogen bonding between CA and NMP optimizes microstructural organization for efficient Li⁺ transport pathways; carbonyl groups in NMP coordinate with Li⁺ to facilitate LiTFSI dissociation, while oxygen-rich functional groups in CA provide supplementary Li⁺ coordination sites; FEC is introduced to further improve interfacial stability. This molecular engineering approach achieves an impressive room-temperature ionic conductivity of 8.54 × 10 −4 S cm −1 and a high lithium-ion transference number of 0.78. The QSE demonstrated excellent cycling stability (>900 h) in lithium symmetrical batteries and significantly improved the discharge capacity (12243 mAh g −1 ) and long-term cycling performance (590 h) of Li-O 2 batteries. These results highlight the efficacy of our multi-functional additive strategy in overcoming fundamental limitations in solid electrolytes, offering important insights for the rational design of high-performance energy storage systems.

Membrane distillation (MD) technology is crucial for achieving zero discharge of hypersaline wastewater. However, its practical application has been hindered by low permeation flux. This study presents a hydrogel-coated Janus membrane (JM), developed through controlled interfacial free radical polymerization (IFRP) on a self-fabricated hydrophobic polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) substrate under ultraviolet irradiation. Microscopic images show that the in-situ synthesized hydrogel infiltrated into the nanoscale pores of the PVDF substrate, forming a stable "physical interlocking" composite structure with an impressive hydrophilic modification depth of 42 μm. MD performance results indicate that the optimized M-P2H4 JMs achieve remarkable water vapor flux of 42.14 L m -2 h -1 , while maintaining stable flux and salt retention across various salt concentrations (3.5wt%-20wt%). Molecular dynamics simulations reveal a strong interaction energy between the synthesized hydrogel layer and water molecules. Dark evaporation tests, differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) analysis show that the hydrogel networks increase intermediate water proportion and remarkably reduce evaporation enthalpy. Higher specific surface area is measured for the microsphere-based PVDF membrane, thereby increasing the evaporation area. The combination of the reduced evaporation energy barrier and increased evaporation area of M-P2H4 result in its excellent evaporation efficiency, which also presents excellent resistance to surfactant-stabilized oil-in-water brine emulsions. This study offers valuable insights into designing JM with high flux capability and superior anti-fouling properties.

Graphical Two photochemically deoxygenating compounds, PEG-200 and PEGDA-575, have been used as solvents for triplet-triplet annihilation upconversion in air, with both serving as sensitized singlet oxygen scavengers. A high-level information encryption platform has been developed using Pt(OEP)/DPA/PEGDA-575 or Pt(OEP)/DPA/PEGDA-575/PEG-200 ink that enables data to be read under specific light or at a certain time and erased by light exposure. Photochemical deoxygenation offers a promising solution to the oxygen sensitivity issue in Triplet-triplet annihilation upconversion (TTA-UC). This study utilized polyethylene glycol (PEG)-200 and polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEGDA)-575 as solvents and singlet oxygen scavengers for TTA-UC conducted in air. The upconversion efficiency of Pt(OEP)/DPA in aerated PEG-200 is similar to that in nitrogen-saturated PEG-200. Prolonged 532 nm light irradiation causes a PEGDA-575 solution of Pt(OEP)/DPA to undergo photoinitiated polymerization via homomolecular TTA, leading to a reduction in DPA's upconversion emission and an increase in Pt(OEP)’s phosphorescence. These results enabled the development of a high-level information encryption platform using the direct-writing method with Pt(OEP)/DPA/PEGDA-575 or Pt(OEP)/DPA/PEGDA-575/PEG-200 ink. The information is only readable under certain lighting conditions or at specific times and can be erased by exposure to light.

Endocrine disruptors such as bisphenol A (BPA) adversely affect the environment and human health. Laccases are used for the efficient biodegradation of various persistent organic pollutants in an environmentally safe manner. However, the direct application of free laccases is generally hindered by short enzyme lifetimes, non-reusability, and the high cost of a single use. In this study, laccases were immobilized on a novel magnetic three-dimensional poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA)–chitosan (CS) inverse opal hydrogel (LAC@MPEGDA@CS@IOH). The immobilized laccase showed significant improvement in the BPA degradation performance and superior storage stability compared with the free laccase. 91.1% of 100 mg/L BPA was removed by the LAC@MPEGDA@CS@IOH in 3 hr, whereas only 50.6% of BPA was removed by the same amount of the free laccase. Compared with the laccase, the outstanding BPA degradation efficiency of the LAC@MPEGDA@CS@IOH was maintained over a wider range of pH values and temperatures. Moreover, its relative activity of was maintained at 70.4% after 10 cycles, and the system performed well in actual water matrices. This efficient method for preparing immobilized laccases is simple and green, and it can be used to further develop ecofriendly biocatalysts to remove organic pollutants from wastewater.

Nanogels have been widely prepared and characterized in recent years due to their unique advantages. Here, an effective, original, and facile method of emulsion-free photopolymerization at 532 nm without surfactant was developed to prepare nanogels based on poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA). The 532 nm continuous laser with symmetrical energy distribution like a three-dimensional shape of a straw hat was used to control the reaction region. The self-emulsification of PEGDA in water was studied and PEGDA micelles were directly cross-linked by controlling the laser energy. The number of micelles participating in the microreaction region and the double bond crosslinking between micellar aggregates and inside micelles were reasonably regulated. The size of the nanogels could be effectively modulated by controlling reaction parameters including laser power, monomer concentration, initiator concentration, and reaction time. Finally, ultrasmall nanogels with around 30 nm in size were prepared by balancing double bond crosslinking between micellar aggregates and inside micelles.

Microenvironmental imbalance and bacterial infection
are core causes
of intractable chronic wounds by hindering nutrient transport and
tissue repair. Herein, we innovatively fabricated a hydrophilic antibacterial
scaffold based on silk fibroin (SF) and uniformly integrated it into
PEGDA microneedle (MN) matrices. The composite MN system can efficiently
load hydrophilic model drugs including lidocaine and rhodamine B,
achieving uniform drug incorporation and improved drug-loading versatility
with controllable, long-term sustained drug release behavior. Biological
tests verified that the developed MN possesses excellent broad-spectrum
antibacterial capacity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli . It also exhibits
favorable biocompatibility without obvious cytotoxicity and effectively
promotes cell migration. In vivo experiments on full-thickness skin
defect models demonstrated that the MN remarkably accelerates wound

Nanogels with a unique three-dimensional structure have wide applications in tissue engineering and drug delivery. In this study, polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEGDA) nanogels were prepared by photopolymerization under the irradiation of 532 nm laser using a mixture of ethanol and water as the solvent. The reaction parameters including laser power and stirring speed were systematically investigated. Since the amphiphilic PEGDA self-emulsifies to form micelles in water, the regulation of ethanol content in reaction medium can tune the size and morphology of nanogels. Based on these, the photopolymerization mechanism of PEGDA in aqueous solution of ethanol was proposed.

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is renowned for its exceptional chemical inertness and hydrophobicity. However, the high melt viscosity, low surface energy, and high cooling shrinkage of PTFE make it difficult to fabricate fine three-dimensional (3D) structures through photopolymerization molding. Meanwhile, due to the mechanical properties of PTFE, such as low hardness and low elastic modulus, the wear resistance of its structure is usually poor. In this study, we propose an effective strategy to enhance both wear resistance and superhydrophobicity in 3D-printed PTFE/C structures by controlling the carbon residue during the sintering process. To achieve the refined structure of PTFE, a photo-cross-linkable PTFE/PEGDA ink was developed, in which PEGDA acts as a photocurable scaffold to enable high-resolution DLP printing of PTFE nanoparticles. Furthermore, inspired by the microarray of cicada wings, a needle-repellent structure with a water contact angle (CA) exceeding 150° was printed using a PTFE-based ink. Based on the above structure, the carbon residue in PTFE/PEGDA was controlled by the sintering process to further enhance the wear resistance and superhydrophobicity of the structure. These results indicated that the sintered needle-repellent structure can still maintain excellent hydrophobic properties with 1000-grit sandpaper under a load of 100 g for 20 cycles. The performance conflict between superhydrophobicity and wear resistance of the PTFE/C structure has been effectively alleviated through the printed needle-repellent structure and controlled carbon residue. Furthermore, even after 2 weeks of immersion in strongly acidic and alkaline environments, the structure morphology remains stable. These excellent features of the needle-repellent structure make it applicable to a wide range of applications, such as droplet manipulation, oil–water separation, and fog harvesting.

Phase separation technology has attracted extensive scientific interest because of its intriguing structure changes during the phase separation process. Phase separation inside emulsion droplets in continuous surroundings has been well studied in recent years. Many investigations have also been conducted to study the droplet phase separation phenomena in noncontinuous surroundings. However, studies on the phase separation phenomena and the spreading behavior of suspended droplets at the air–liquid interface were rarely reported. In this study, PEGDA-glycerol suspended Janus droplets with a patchy structure were produced by utilizing solvent evaporation-induced droplet phase separation at the air–liquid interface. By altering the glycerol/PEGDA volume ratio, the initial proportion of ethanol, and the concentration of surfactants, suspended droplets with different morphologies can be achieved, which include filbert-shaped droplets (FSDs), half lotus seedpod single-phase Janus droplets (HLSDs), lotus seedpod single-phase Janus droplets (LSDs), lotus seedpod-shaped droplets (LSSDs), multiple-bulge droplets (MBDs), and half gourd-shaped droplets (HGSDs). A patchy structure was generated at the air–droplet interface, which was attributed to the Marangoni stresses induced by nonuniform evaporation. Furthermore, a modified spreading coefficient theory was constructed and verified to illustrate the phase separation at the air–droplet interface, which was the first research to predict the phase separation phenomena at the air–liquid interface via spreading coefficients theory. Moreover, we studied the factors that led to the droplets being able to float by designing the combined parameters, including three interfacial tensions and the equilibrium contact angles. Therefore, a simple and versatile strategy for creating suspended Janus droplets has been developed for the first time, which holds significant potential in a variety of applications for material synthesis, such as the electrospinning solution behavior when sprayed from the nozzle into the air.
