Anti-glare coatings offer a promising solution for mitigating light pollution, with the construction of a rough surface being essential to their effectiveness. In this paper, a series of waterborne polyurethane (WPU) coatings with self-antiglare effect were successfully synthesized by adjusting the molar ratio of the post-chain extenders sodium N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-aminoethanesulfonate (BES) and hydrazine hydrate (N 2 H 4 ). This approach utilized BES as a post-chain extender for the first time, resulting in a double micro-rough surface structure that enabled the coating to achieve better anti-glare effect with relatively lower roughness. The effects of BES and N 2 H 4 on particle size, morphology, gloss, zeta potential, transmittance, and hydrophilicity of WPU were investigated. When the BES content accounted for 30 mol% of the post-chain extenders, the average particle size of the emulsion was 1321.4 nm, and the 60° gloss of the coating was 36.1 GU. Additionally, we thoroughly analyzed the formation mechanism of the “worm-like” micro-rough structure on the surface of latex particles. The strongly hydrophilic -SO 3 − Na + groups in the emulsion pulled the molecular chains to extend to the outer layer of the latex particles. Upon water evaporation, these molecular chains curled up on the particle surfaces, forming a "worm-like" micro-rough structure. XRD spectrum, FBI-SEM, and TEM images confirmed that this micro-rough structure was formed by self-assembly on the particle surface rather than internal crystallization. This finding provides novel insights into the development of self-antiglare WPU coatings characterized by intricate rough surfaces. Furthermore, it contributes to the advancement of surface and interface science through improved performance of WPU coatings.

Flexible electronic skins (e-skins) that offer high sensitivity, durability, and long-term stability are essential for wearable sensing applications; however, achieving a balance between conductivity, mechanical flexibility, and stability remains a significant challenge. This study, addresses these issues by developing a highly elastic, waterborne polyurethane (WPU) composite incorporating bacterial cellulose (BC) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The abundant hydroxyl groups in BC form strong hydrogen bonds with polyurethane, resulting in a dual cross-linking network that mechanical strength and facilitates MWCNTs dispersion through hydrophilic-hydrophobic synergy, thereby significantly improving electrical conductivity. In addition, BC modulates the crystallinity of the composite, directly affecting both its mechanical properties and electrical performance. Consequently, the WPU-BC composite film exhibited a tensile strength of 43.6 MPa, 700 % elongation at break, and toughness of 122 MJ/m 3 , demonstrating outstanding mechanical properties. Furthermore, the MWCNTs/WPU-BC composite film exhibited high conductivity (24.67 S/cm), rapid response time (152.4 ms), and minimal performance degradation after 2000 stretching cycles. These synergistic properties enable flexible e-skins to consistently capture bioelectrical and biomechanical signals over extended periods, highlighting their potential as multimodal health monitoring systems. This study underscores the effective modulation of composite microstructures via hydrogen bonding and crystallinity control, providing a novel approach for developing durable, sensitive, and biocompatible e-skins. This strategy addresses critical challenges in soft-sensor applications.

This study presents the synthesis of a waterborne polyurethane (WPU-A) emulsion modified with (3-(2-aminoethyl)aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane (AEAPTMS). Self-cleaning materials were developed by applying WPU-A emulsions onto thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) components, which were shaped using selective laser sintering (SLS), through a post-treatment impregnation and curing method. Additionally, superhydrophobic nano-SiO 2 (sn-SiO 2 ) was incorporated onto the surface of the TPU/WPU-A material. The resulting TPU/WPU-A/sn-SiO 2 self-cleaning composites were created, and the self-cleaning capabilities along with other characteristics of the two TPU-coated materials were examined individually. Findings indicated that the water contact angle for pure TPU measured 123.8°, while the TPU/WPU-A0.5/sn-SiO 2 -20, treated with WPU-A emulsion, exhibited an increased angle of 153.3°, achieving superhydrophobicity. The incorporation of sn-SiO 2 particles enhanced the surface roughness of the TPU/WPU-A0.5/sn-SiO 2 -20 material, facilitating the easy removal of surface contaminants. This enhancement contributes to improved anti-pollution properties and effective self-cleaning performance of the TPU material. The compressive strength of the TPU/WPU-A0.5/sn-SiO 2 -20 skeletonized parts reached 0.733 MPa, representing a 168% increase compared to the pure TPU skeleton. The TPU/WPU-A0.5/sn-SiO 2 -20 material, which is coated with WPU-A and integrated with sn-SiO 2 , demonstrates excellent self-cleaning and mechanical properties, indicating its potential for various applications.

Flexible sensors are an important component of wearable medical electronics and hold considerable promise for research. Presently, stretchable strain sensors face two primary challenges: balancing the sensing range with sensitivity, and ensuring compatibility between conductivity and mechanical properties. Here, flexible sensing fibers with high gauge factor (GF) and wide monitoring range are reported based on a hierarchical structure composed of electrostatic adsorption principle and hydrogen bonding interactions. The hierarchical structure material consists of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), MXene, polypyrrole (PPy) and waterborne polyurethane (WPU). Among them, MXene (2D) and PPy (3D) are uniformly distributed on the surface of the MXene/TPU fiber (1D) to form a conductive and sensing pathway. This multi-dimensional combination approach enables the fiber sensor to have a high sensing range (0 ∼ 106 %) and high sensitivity (60 ∼ 3.23 × 10 6 ). In addition, the WPU acts as a protective layer, which not only reduces the damage to the sensing layer, but also improves the stretchability (>750 %) and modulus (∼12 MPa) of the sensor. Therefore, it can function as fiber sensor for monitoring not only human movement but also swelling in the legs of patients with varicose veins. The sensor also has a joule heating effect, as well as the potential to be integrated into fabrics, providing an important case for the construction of multifunctional flexible wearable medical electronics with practical applications.
