2-amino-6-bromobenzothiazole (ABBT) as an inhibitor of copper corrosion in 0.5 M H2SO4 solution was researched in this study using with electrochemical measurement, scanning electron microscope, atomic force microscope, and theoretical calculation. Polarization curves manifest that ABBT acts as a modest cathodic-type inhibitor with a maximum achievable inhibition efficiency of 94.6% at 1 mM. EIS test indicates that ABBT adsorb on the copper surface and form an adsorption film, which obeys Langmuir adsorption model. Furthermore, DFT calculation and molecular dynamics simulation were utilized to explore the mechanism of inhibition of ABBT.
A way to suppress the deterioration in mechanical properties of polyamide 6 (PA6) is required, especially with high loading of flame retardants in the matrix. In this study, a novel aromatic Schiff base diepoxide (DES) was synthesized. It exhibited an efficient chain extension effect on PA6 and a synergistic flame-retardant effect with aluminum diethylphosphinate (AlPi) for PA6. The PA6 composite with 16 wt.% AlPi only passed UL-94 V-0 rating at 1.6 mm thickness, while the combination of 1.5 wt.% DES with 13 wt.% AlPi induced PA6 to achieve a UL-94 V-0 rating at 0.8 mm thickness. The tensile, flexural, and Izod notched impact strengths were increased by 16.2%, 16.5%, and 24.9%, respectively, compared with those of V-0 flame-retarded PA6 composites with 16 wt.% AlPi. The flame-retarded mechanism of PA6/AlPi/DES was investigated by cone calorimetry and infrared characterization of the char residues and pyrolysis products. These results showed that DES had a synergistic effect with AlPi in condensed-phase flame retardation by promoting the production of aluminum phosphorus oxides and polyphosphates in the char residues.
A large number of dead seedlings can occur in saline soils, which seriously affects the large-scale cultivation of rice. This study investigated the effects of plant growth regulators (PGRs) and nitrogen application on seedling growth and salt tolerance (Oryza sativaL.), which is of great significance for agricultural production practices. A conventional rice variety, “Huang Huazhan”, was selected for this study. Non-salt stress treatments included 0% NaCl (CK treatment), CK + 0.05 g N/pot (N treatment), CK + 40 mg·L−15-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) (A treatment), and CK + 30 mg·L−1diethylaminoethyl acetate (DTA-6) (D treatment). Salt stress treatments included 0.3% NaCl (S treatment), N + 0.3% NaCl (NS treatment), A + 0.3% NaCl (AS treatment), and D + 0.3% NaCl (DS treatment). When 3 leaves and 1 heart emerged from the soil, plants were sprayed with DTA-6 and 5-ALA, followed by the application of 0.3% NaCl (w/w) to the soil after 24 h. Seedling morphology and photosynthetic indices, as well as carbohydrate metabolism and key enzyme activities, were determined for each treatment. Our results showed that N, A, and D treatments promoted seedling growth, photosynthesis, carbohydrate levels, and the activities of key enzymes involved in carbon metabolism when compared to the CK treatment. The A treatment had the most significant effect, with increases in aboveground dry weight and net photosynthetic rates (Pn) ranging from 17.74% to 41.02% and 3.61% to 32.60%, respectively. Stomatal limiting values (Ls) significantly decreased from 19.17% to 43.02%. Salt stress significantly inhibited seedling growth. NS, AS, and DS treatments alleviated the morphological and physiological damage of salt stress on seedlings when compared to the S treatment. The AS treatment was the most effective in improving seedling morphology, promoting photosynthesis, increasing carbohydrate levels, and key enzyme activities. After AS treatment, increases in aboveground dry weight, net photosynthetic rate, soluble sugar content, total sucrose synthase, and amylase activities were 17.50% to 50.79%, 11.39% to 98.10%, 20.20% to 80.85%, 21.21% to 33.53%, and 22.17% to 34.19%, respectively, when compared to the S treatment. In summary, foliar sprays of 5-ALA, DTA-6, and additional nitrogen fertilizer enhanced rice seedling growth, increased photosynthesis, lowered Ls values, and improved seedling salt tolerance. Spraying two regulators, 5-ALA and DTA-6, quantitatively increased the effect of nitrogen fertilizer, with comparable effects on NaCl stress regulation. This study provides the basis for efficient agricultural production.
Euplatypus parallelus , a major pest of rubber trees, has inflicted severe damage on the natural rubber industry in Hainan Province. Odorant binding proteins (OBPs) play a crucial role in insect host plant location and serve as potential targets for attractant development. However, the interactions between E. parallelus OBPs and host plant volatiles and pheromones remain largely unexplored. In this study, we identified and characterized EparOBP6 as an antennal binding protein II (ABPII), a protein subfamily typically involved in the detection of host plant volatiles and pheromones. Fluorescence competitive binding assays showed that EparOBP6 binds strongly to several rubber tree volatiles, notably (+)-longifolene, β-ionone, cinnamyl acetate, and α-copaene. Molecular docking revealed eight key amino acid residues critical for ligand binding interactions. Electroantennography (EAG) and Y-tube olfactometer assays confirmed that β-ionone and cinnamyl acetate elicited significant electrophysiological and behavioral responses in both male and female beetles, whereas 1-naphthaldehyde primarily attracted males. RNA interference experiments demonstrated that silencing EparOBP6 in males significantly reduced their attraction to β-ionone and cinnamyl acetate, confirming the essential role of EparOBP6 in detecting these compounds. Field trapping experiments validated these laboratory findings, showing that traps baited with β-ionone and 1-naphthaldehyde captured significantly more male beetles compared to the control. These findings offer the first comprehensive insights into the olfactory mechanisms of E. parallelus , highlighting the essential role of EparOBP6 in mediating specific host-seeking behavior. This study provides a foundation for developing semiochemical-based pest management strategies for effective monitoring and control of this pest.
Simple SummaryInvasive plants often produce chemical compounds that help them compete in new environments, and some of these compounds can harm insect pests. Understanding how these compounds affect insects could help us develop safer, more environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional chemical pesticides. In this study, we investigated how a compound called 6-methoxyluteolin, extracted from the invasive plantTithonia diversifolia(Mexican sunflower), affects the integument of the agricultural pestSpodoptera litura(common cutworm) at different stages of larval development. We found that this compound reduced the activity of a key pigment-forming enzyme and decreased melanin levels in the larval integument across multiple developmental stages. Histological analysis further revealed progressive thinning and structural disorganization of the outer cuticle layer with increasing compound concentration. These results suggest that 6-methoxyluteolin disrupts the melanization process essential for cuticle integrity in insect larvae, and support its potential as a targeted botanical insecticide. The invasive plantTithonia diversifoliais a promising source of botanical insecticides, yet the mechanisms by which its active compounds impair insect physiology remain incompletely characterized. This study investigated the effects of 6-methoxyluteolin (6-ML), a flavonoid isolated fromT. diversifolia, on melanization and cuticle integrity inSpodoptera lituralarvae. Cuticle melanization, mediated by tyrosinase-catalyzed oxidation of tyrosine-derived substrates, is essential for cuticle sclerotization and immune defense in insects. Whether 6-ML directly targets this pathway has not been previously examined at the biochemical and histological level. Tyrosinase activity and melanin content were measured across 3rd–6th-instar larvae exposed to a concentration gradient of 6-ML (1.625–100 μg/mL). Histological sections of 4th- and 5th-instar larvae were prepared by paraffin embedding and hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining. 6-ML significantly reduced tyrosinase activity and melanin content in a concentration-dependent manner across all instars examined. Histological analysis revealed progressive cuticle thinning and loss of pigmentation granules with increasing 6-ML concentration. These findings provide the first biochemical and histological evidence that 6-ML targets the melanization pathway inS. litura, supporting its potential as a melanization-inhibiting botanical insecticide.
Using KIT-6 as the silica source, a series of Li 4 SiO 4 adsorbents (KIT-6-Li 4 SiO 4 ) were synthesized by impregnation precipitation method for high temperature CO 2 capture. Then, the KIT-6-Li 4 SiO 4 -800–4 (KL-800–4) material, was selected to analyze the improvement of the adsorption performance by Ca 2+ /Na + eutectic doping modification. These adsorbents were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and low temperature N 2 adsorption/desorption, and the CO 2 adsorption capacity of them was explored. At 600 °C and under 15 vol% CO 2 , KL-Ca0.03 and KL-Na0.06 sorbents resulted in a CO 2 uptake of 29.17 wt% and 35.35 wt% (close to the theoretical maximum), respectively, which are much higher than that of KL-800–4 (14.73 wt%). After 10 adsorption/desorption cycles, the adsorption capacity of KL-Na0.06 increased by 1.35 wt%. We found that KL-Na0.06 has more advantages compared with traditional lithium orthosilicate and undoped adsorbents, including lower energy consumption, higher CO 2 adsorption capacity and better cycling ability. Finally, the double exponential model had a high degree of fit for the adsorption of CO 2 by Li 4 SiO 4 .
Liver fibrosis is a global health problem caused by a number of diseases related to liver damage. 6-Shogaol is a biologically active substance derived from the rhizome of Zingiber officinale Roscoe with anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. To explore the effects of 6-Shogaol on liver fibrosis, we used a mouse model of the condition in which mice were injected intraperitoneally with carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) at a dose of 2 mL/kg three times per week for a period of 4 weeks. 6-Shogaol was administered orally at two different doses (5 mg/kg, 20 mg/kg) 30 min before CCl4 injection. CCl4 induced severe liver injury and fibrosis, as indicated by significant inflammatory cell infiltration, disordered liver structure, increased activities of aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase (liver damage markers) in serum, elevated collagen deposition, and overexpressed alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA, marker of hepatic stellate cells activation) in liver tissues, whereas 6-Shogaol administration rescued those alterations dose-dependently. We found that 6-Shogaol suppressed CCl4-induced inflammatory response by inhibiting macrophage recruitment, release of pro-inflammatory factors, and activation of the NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome in liver tissues. Additionally, we demonstrated that 6-Shogaol blocked CCl4-induced activation of the nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) pathway, which is a vital transcriptional regulator of the inflammatory response. Altogether, this study demonstrates that 6-Shogaol can prevent CCl4-induced liver fibrosis by suppressing inflammatory response through the NF-κB pathway and suggests that 6-Shogaol can be used for liver fibrosis prevention.
On the surface of glassy carbon electrode, electrochemically reduced graphene oxide-anionic pillar[6]arene (ErGO-AP6) composite film is directly constructed using a potentiostatic method. This composite film is used as an electrochemical sensing platform for detecting clothianidin (CLO). Studies on the interaction mechanism reveal a higher supramolecular recognition capability between AP6 and CLO, compared to that between β -cyclodextrin ( β -CD) and CLO. Owing to the synergistic effect of ErGO and AP6, the ErGO-AP6 composite film shows an outstanding sensitivity and excellent selectivity towards CLO, superior to that of ErGO- β -CD film. The linear range from 1.0 × 10 −7 to 5.0 × 10 −5 mol L −1 and detection limit of 4.0 × 10 −8 mol L −1 for CLO are achieved. In addition, the presented method is used for fruit and water samples in a recovery test, showing recovery rates between 90.0% and 99.4%. This study provides a promising electrochemical sensing platform for rapid and sensitive analysis of CLO.
In recent years, therapeutic strategies based on macrophages have been inspiringly developed, but due to the high intricacy and immunosuppression of the tumor microenvironment, the widespread use of these strategies still faces significant challenges. Herein, an artificial assembled macrophage concept (AB@LM) was presented to imitate the main antitumor abilities of macrophages of tumor targeting, promoting the antitumor immunity, and direct tumor-killing effects. The artificial assembled macrophage (AB@LM) was prepared through an extrusion method, which is to fuse the macrophage membrane with abemaciclib and black phosphorus quantum dot (BPQD)-loaded liposomes. AB@LM showed good stability and tumor targeting ability with the help of macrophage membrane. Furthermore, AB@LM reversed the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment by inhibiting regulatory T cells (Tregs) and stimulating the maturation of antigen-presenting cells to activate the antitumor immune response through triggering an immunogenic cell death effect. More importantly, in the colorectal tumor model in vivo, a strong cooperative therapeutic effect of photo/chemo/immunotherapy was observed with high tumor inhibition rate (95.3 ± 2.05%). In conclusion, AB@LM exhibits excellent antitumor efficacy by intelligently mimicking the abilities of macrophages. A promising therapeutic strategy for tumor treatment based on imitating macrophages was provided in this study.
Background Chromium (Cr) mainly has two stable forms: Cr 3+ and Cr 6+ . Cr and its compound are widely used in the printing, dyeing, leather making, and metallurgy industry. They are evitably released into the environment and pose a significant threat to creatures, for instance, the excessive chromium (Cr) burden in the marine ecosystem is often harmful to fish. Intestinal microbiota greatly affects fish performance, but how waterborne Cr affects fish intestinal microbiota is unclear. To test the hypothesis that the waterborne Cr exposure could significantly affect fish’ intestinal microbiota homeostasis, and the effect was highly dependent on Cr concentration and speciation, the juvenile leopard coral grouper Plectropomus leopardus were exposed to waterborne Cr 3+ and Cr 6+ (0.1, 0.5 ppm) for 7 days, and the intestinal microbiota was determined by Amplicon sequencing of the 16S rRNA. Results In all Cr treatment groups, the alpha diversity of intestinal microbiota communities of P. leopardus was decreased. The phyla Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, Actinobacteria, Chloroflexi and Bacteroidetes were the dominant intestinal microbiota. The Chao index diversity significantly declined in Cr treatment group, indicating the intestinal microbiota community structure was changed. Among the dominant intestinal microbiota, Proteobacteria was most sensitive to Cr exposure, and it increased after xposure. The PICRUSt predicted that 0.5 ppm Cr 3+ expousure caused metabolism disordered in the intestinal of P. leopardus . Conclusions Waterborne Cr 3+ and Cr 6+ significantly disturbed intestinal microbiota homeostasis in P. leopardus , including their diversity, composition, and community structure. The metabolism level of intestinal microbiota in P. leopardus was decreased by Cr 3+ exposure. High concentrations of Cr 3+ may pose potential risks to the intestinal homeostasis of P. leopardus .
The combinatorial use of dietary jujube (Ziziphus jujuba) and ginger play a critical role in traditional Chinese medicines, folk medicine and dietary therapy. Joint effects were investigated from the viewpoint of the antioxidant (scavenging DPPH˙) and antitumor activities (against SW620 cells) of jujube polysaccharides and ginger 6-gingerol (G6G) alone and in combination. Jujube polysaccharides were extracted, purified, and characterized, and then their inhibiting and apoptotic effects alone and in combination with G6G were evaluated by the cytological tests, including Cell Counting Kit-8, colony-forming, Annexin V-FITC and propidium iodide, TdT-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining, and cell cycle assays. Results showed that the purified polysaccharide fraction (ZJPs-II) with average molecular weight of 115 kDa consisted of arabinose, rhamnose, glucose, xylose, and galactose. ZJPs-II and G6G alone dose-dependently scavenged DPPH˙ and inhibited the proliferation of SW620 cells, while their combination showed synergistic interactions (all combination index < 1). The studies further demonstrated that ZJPs-II and G6G alone reduced the cell colony-formation, induced apoptosis and arrested the cell-cycle at G2/M phase, while their combination achieved better effects and significantly arrested the growth at the G0/G1 phase. Collectively, our findings suggest enhancing the intake of jujube polysaccharides and G6G in a combinatorial approach for maintaining health and preventing cancer.
