The rational control of heterostructure motifs and the corresponding electronic environment in heterocatalysts offers an effective strategy to regulate CO2RR selectivity, yet it remains challenging. The precise regulation of the reaction intermediates is therefore a critical determinant. In this work, the size-engineered cMOF/o-Cu2O was introduced to modulate heterostructure motifs, thereby modulating the *CHO intermediate selectivity switch and steering C2 or C1 reaction pathways. We elucidated the divergent CO2RR pathways governed by the differential growth degrees of the cMOF/o-Cu2O heterostructures. The minimized cMOF/o-Cu2O-s (∼361.8 nm), comprising a high proportion of –OH terminations, accelerated the continuous hydrogenation of *CHO and promoted their conversion into *CHxO intermediates. The moderate cMOF/o-Cu2O-m (∼870.1 nm) achieved an optimal balance between the intermediate concentrations and interfacial transfer, enabling a preferential *CHO–*CO coupling pathway through the rationally designed heterostructure motifs. In contrast, the enlarged cMOF/o-Cu2O-l (∼2.7 µm) exhibited an indistinguishable force toward the key intermediates of *CHO, thereby failing to differentiate between the subsequent reaction pathways. The intensified *CHxO and *CHO–*CO signals observed in the in situ ATR-FTIR further verified the bifurcated reaction pathways, featuring a C1-dominated pathway on cMOF/o-Cu2O-s and C2 pathway on cMOF/o-Cu2O-m. cMOF/o-Cu2O-m achieved a Faraday efficiency of 71.1% for C2 products at −1.3 V vs. RHE. This work offers crucial insights into the significance of size engineering in modulating the heterostructure motifs to regulate the selectivity switch of key intermediates.

A flexible non-enzymatic glucose electrochemical sensor with high sensitivity and stability was constructed using the electrode by in situ growth of Cu/Cu 2 O nanocomposites on carbon dots (CDs) modified carbon cloth (CC) by electrodeposition reduction method, where the modification of CDs provided a stable anchoring site for the growth of the nanocomposites and enhanced the stability of Cu/Cu 2 O in solution. The electrode had a glucose detection range of 0.2–100 μM and 0.1–1 mM, which offered the advantages of high sensitivity (4510.89 μA mM −1 cm −2 and 2385.94 μA mM −1 cm −2 ) and low detection limit (0.66 μM). The sensor also exhibits excellent selectivity, reproducibility, immunity to interference and long-term stability. In addition, In order to verify the enhancement effect of CDs on their electrochemical properties, Cu/Cu 2 O electrodes were prepared in this paper by the same method on several CCs modified with different CDs (e.g., glycine, cysteine and riboflavin), The results showed that the incorporation of CDs enhanced the electrocatalytic ability compared to the electrode without CDs modification, indicating that CDs can provide more active sites and electron transport channels for Cu/Cu 2 O, and that this CDs-enhanced Cu/Cu 2 O nanocomposite can be used for non-enzymatic glucose electrochemical sensors.

Cu-based compounds are indispensable materials for pseudocapacitors owing to their excellent electrical conductivity and diverse valence states. Their practical performance remains constrained by nanoparticle agglomeration and limited active sites. Herein, a low-temperature pre-oxidation strategy was employed to introduce coal-based carbon surface with abundant C O and = C–H groups, providing uniform anchoring sites for Cu-based compounds. Through flash Joule heating process, these precursors were transformed into a Cu/Cu 2 O/Cu 2 S heterostructure intimately (4.6 s) integrated with the carbon substrate. The lattice defects at the heterostructure promote the adsorption and diffusion of ions, while the coexistence of Cu 0 /Cu + redox pairs enhances reversibility of Faradaic reactions. As a result, the optimized Cu@OMC electrode have good specific capacitance (2041 Fg −1 at 1 A g −1 ) in 6 M KOH. It is assembled into an asymmetric supercapacitor, which has a high energy density of 60.01 Wh kg −1 , a power density of 800.00 W kg −1 , and a specific capacity retention rate of 97.29 % after 10,000 cycles. This study provides a simple and efficient strategy for the preparation of carbon-supported metal compound electrode materials.

The development of efficient and stable cuprous-oxide-based photocathodes for CO 2 reduction is hindered by the intrinsic trade-off between rapid photocorrosion and inefficient charge separation. Herein, we construct a Cu 2 O@Cu 3 N heterojunction photocathode featuring a unique hierarchical architecture, which integrates atomic-scale coherent interfaces (N–Cu–O bonds) with microscale geometric field enhancement from abundant nanoscale tips at pore vertices. This rational integration is designed to simultaneously improve charge transport and favor reactant accumulation at the active sites. As a result, the optimized electrode achieves a CO Faradaic efficiency of 96% at a mild potential, maintains >90% selectivity across a broad voltage window, and operates stably for over 3 h. This work demonstrates that co-designing atomic-scale interfaces and microscale morphology is a powerful pathway to high-performance solar fuel generation.

A seed self-sacrificial strategy was proposed to prepare Cu 2 O/MOF composites with tunable MOF lengths. • The synthesized MOF exhibited unique CO 2 adsorption capacity , with an optimal value of 97.50 cm 3 /g. • Tuning outer MOF length modulated CO 2 adsorption, enabling selective control over C 1 and C 2 conversion. • When the outer MOF layer reached 500 nm, Cu 2 O/MOF-2 achieved optimal C 2 selectivity with an FE of 81.43% and 16 h stability. • In situ FTIR and DFT showed that MOF-enhanced CO 2 adsorption raised *CO coverage on Cu 2 O/MOF, lowering C 2 formation barrier. In the electrocatalytic process of Carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO 2 RR), one of the challenges faced by copper (Cu)-based MOF catalysts is insufficient structural stability, which leads to low utilization of active sites and reduced product selectivity. This study proposed a seed self-sacrifice strategy to fabricate Cu 2 O/MOF composite materials with tunable metal-organic framework (MOF) lengths, where cuprous oxide (Cu 2 O) serves as a metal-source seed to support the growth of the outer MOF. By regulating the length of the outer MOF material, the degree of CO 2 concentration can be modulated, thereby enabling precise control over the conversion rates of C 1 and C 2 products. In particular, when the length of the outer MOF is approximately 500 nm, Cu 2 O/MOF-2 achieves the highest selectivity for C₂ products, reaching 81.43%. In-situ Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy measurements and density functional theory calculations reveal that the MOF with an appropriate length exhibits optimal adsorption effects for CO 2 . This increases the coverage of the *CO adsorption layer at the Cu 2 O/MOF interface, thereby lowering the energy barrier for C 2 products formation and accelerating the generation of ethylene and ethanol. This study pioneeringly establishes a novel pathway for selectively obtaining high-value energy products by controlling the component length. By modulating the length of the outer MOF, the CO 2 concentration could be regulated, which promoted the formation and concentration of *CO. This process increased the coverage of the *CO adsorption layer on the Cu 2 O/MOF and lowered the energy barrier for the formation of the *CO*CO intermediate, thereby enabling the efficient generation of C 2 products.

pH/NIR dual-responsive Cu₂O-PMO@DEX/PEG nanoparticles target cariogenic biofilms • Dextranase opens the EPS barrier, enabling bactericidal action deep in biofilms. • Effective copper dose reduced to ~5.4 μg/mL. • No enrichment of antimicrobial-resistance-associated taxa after treatment. Dental caries remains a significant public health challenge due to the persistent presence of cariogenic biofilms. Cuprous oxide nanoparticles (Cu₂O NPs) show promise in inhibiting biofilm formation; however, extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) form a robust barrier that limits nanoparticle penetration and diminishes their anti-caries effectiveness. To address this, we loaded dextranase (DEX) onto Cu₂O-embedded periodic mesoporous organosilica (PMO) nanoparticles (Cu₂O-PMO@DEX/PEG NPs), which integrate enzymatic EPS hydrolysis, pH-triggered release of copper ions, and near-infrared (NIR) photothermal therapy, providing a multifaceted approach to overcome biofilm barriers. Cu₂O-PMO@DEX/PEG NPs exhibited potent activity against S. mutans , achieving a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) value of 78.125 μg/mL, corresponding to an effective Cu₂O dose of ~5.4 μg/mL. In a rat caries model, Cu₂O-PMO@DEX/PEG NPs achieved caries-preventive efficacy comparable to chlorhexidine (CHX). The 16S rRNA sequencing showed that the system suppressed pathogenic taxa, preserved commensal flora, without the enrichment of antimicrobial-resistance-associated taxa observed in the CHX group, demonstrating superior microecological compatibility compared with CHX-induced dysbiosis. Biosafety of this system was confirmed by cytotoxicity testing and in vivo histopathological evaluation. This work establishes a strategy to combat cariogenic biofilm barriers and provides a microecology-friendly design foundation for next-generation caries prevention materials. Porous Cu/Cu2O catalytic materials with a unique pore structure were successfully synthesized via a one-step solvothermal method using Cu-MOF-74 as the intermediate, followed by induced collapse and oxidation. The structural properties and catalytic performance of the as-prepared Cu/Cu2O materials in the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP) were systematically investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area analysis, and thermogravimetry–differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC) combined with in situ thermogravimetry–mass spectrometry (TG-MS). The results show that the specific surface area of the Cu/Cu2O material is 46.6697 m2/g, and the average pore diameter is 9.4608 nm. Owing to the synergistic effect of Cu0/Cu+dual sites on promoting electron transfer during AP thermal decomposition, the Cu/Cu2O catalyst exhibits excellent catalytic activity. Specifically, at a heating rate of 20 °C/min, the addition of 2 wt% Cu/Cu2O reduces the high-temperature decomposition temperature of AP from 473.1 °C to 321.1 °C (a decrease of 151.0 °C), lowers the thermal decomposition activation energy from 296.63 kJ/mol to 253.21 kJ/mol (a reduction of 43.42 kJ/mol), and increases the heat release by 617.8 J/g compared to pure AP. TG-MS analysis revealed that Cu/Cu2O accelerates the decomposition of AP by adsorbing and activating NH3and HClO4generated in the low-temperature decomposition stage, facilitating the formation of reactive intermediates such as ClOₓ and promoting the oxidation of nitrogen-containing species. This study demonstrates that the porous Cu/Cu2O material synthesized by the one-step solvothermal method is a promising catalyst for enhancing the thermal decomposition performance of AP in solid propellants.

Using water flow energy in the environment for water treatment is a feasible solution to alleviate energy shortages and environmental pollution. This work prepared a Cu 2 O@MoS 2 /PVDF modified pipeline with superior piezoelectric properties for norfloxacin (NOR) degradation. The piezoelectric coefficient d 33 of Cu 2 O@MoS 2 /PVDF increased by 27.7 % compared with PVDF. The piezoelectric current response test demonstrated that Cu 2 O@MoS 2 /PVDF had a higher current response than PVDF. FTIR showed that the presence of Cu 2 O@MoS 2 significantly increased the piezoelectric β -phase content of PVDF. The Cu 2 O@MoS 2 /PVDF pipeline exhibited the best degradation efficiency of 99.3 % within 40 min when the flow rate reached 1.389 L min −1 . O 2 – and OH have been shown to play an important role in NOR degradation and the possible degradation mechanism and pathways of NOR were proposed. This work provides a promising method for the efficient and green treatment of organic pollutants in water by using water flow energy and has practical application significance.

In recently year, cuprous oxide(Cu 2 O) has been proved to be an important photocatalyst for fast removal of contaminants. However, as we known that the single Cu 2 O cannot get the satisfactory degradation efficiency. Herein, a new photocatalyst was prepared by coating β-cyclodextrin on Cu 2 O(CuCD) under mild hydrothermal conditions, reducing the particle size of cuprous oxide from 200 nm to 40 nm. The as-prepared CuCD exhibit excellent photocatalytic activity , which degradation rate of tetracycline(TC), methylene orange(MO) and congo red(CR) increased by 2.0, 1.7 and 2.1 times, respectively, compared to pristine Cu 2 O in reaction system. This design confirms the synergistic effect of adsorption and photocatalysis due to the introduction of β-cyclodextrin on Cu 2 O, which can provide mass and electron transfer channels to accelerate the separation and migration of photogenerated electrons. Overall, this work provides an important step in developing Cu 2 O-based hybrids for wastewater treatment.

The development of efficient sonocatalysts is of great significance to the treatment of antibiotic wastewater. Herein, an S-scheme sonocatalyst Cu 2 O/BiFeO 3 has been fabricated using a simple synthesis method, in which Cu 2 O nanoparticles grow on the surface of BiFeO 3 . Tetracycline (TET) was selected as a representative pharmaceutical model to systematically evaluate the sonocatalytic performance of the Cu 2 O/BiFeO 3 . The experimental results showed that optimized Cu 2 O/BiFeO 3 (CBF-3) has superior sonocatalytic performance to TET (98.0 %, 0.02302 min −1 ), which is much higher than that of pure BiFeO 3 (54.6 %, 0.00515 min −1 ). Combined with the experimental result and characterization analysis, the sonodegradation mechanism was discussed. The improved sonocatalytic performance can be ascribed to the S-scheme charge transfer mechanism between Cu 2 O and BiFeO 3 , which can simultaneously inhibit sonoelectron-hole recombination, promote carrier transfer, maintain high redox capacity, and generate more active substance. The possible intermediate products and degradation pathways of TET over CBF-3 were analyzed by ion chromatography and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Furthermore, the results of the bacterial toxicity test indicated that the toxicity of the reaction solution decreased significantly after sonodegradation. This study provides a simple way for the rational design and successful preparation of S-scheme sonocatalyst with promising applications in the remediation of the water environment.

ZIF-8 exhibits poor visible light response and rapid electron-hole recombination. To address these problems, we constructed an N-CQD/ZIF-8 framework by in-situ synthesis method, then prepared a novel Z-scheme heterostructure photocatalyst (Cu 2 O/N-CQD/ZIF-8) by reduction precipitation method for the efficient photocatalytic reduction of Cr(Ⅵ). Cu 2 O/N-CQD/ZIF-8 (with a 10% Cu 2 O loading) had a unique heterostructure and exhibited significantly improved performance for Cr(Ⅵ) photoreduction . This photocatalyst successfully reduced 98.99% of the Cr(Ⅵ) in a pH = 3 solution system, which was 6 times higher than that of ZIF-8. Meantime, due to its stable interfacial adhesion, the reduction efficiency of Cr(Ⅵ) by Cu 2 O/N-CQD/ZIF-8 still reached 97.13% after five cycles. Therefore, Cu 2 O/N-CQD/ZIF-8 exhibited superior photocatalytic activity and recyclability compared with unmodified ZIF-8. The charge transfer path of this Z-scheme heterojunction was verified by free radical trapping experiments and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Moreover, a possible charge transfer mechanism was proposed. N-CQD provided a potential driving force for the construction of the internal Z-scheme charge transfer system. Moreover, the synergistic effect between Cu 2 O and ZIF-8 inhibited the rapid recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. This work provides potential insights for the innovative design of high-performance photocatalysts based on metal-organic frameworks for the restoration of Cr(Ⅵ)-containing wastewater.

Electrochemical reduction of nitrate (NO 3 - ) to ammonia (NH 3 ) offers a sustainable avenue to close the NO 3 - cycle for NH 3 synthesis. Critical to the feasibility of electrochemical NO 3 - -to-NH 3 technology is the development of cost-effective, scalable and selective catalysts that can produce NH 3 with high yield. To this end, we design and constructure ultralow-content Pd (2.93 at%) in-situ incorporated Cu 2 O corner-etched octahedra (Pd-Cu 2 O CEO) with cavity and oxygen vacancy defects for selectively electrochemical NO 3 - -to-NH 3 transformation. The unique conner-etched cavity structure, rich surface oxygen vacancies, and Pd-Cu 2 O dual active sites, synergistically promote nitrate electroreduction undergo ammonia formation reaction pathway. Impressively, the as-made Pd-Cu 2 O CEO exhibited outstanding activity for electrocatalytic NO 3 - -to-NH 3 , with high ammonia selectivity (95.31%) and Faradaic efficiency (96.56%). The developed hierarchical-defect strategy may open a new avenue for reasonable design of defect electrocatalysts to contribute desirable properties and functionalities in specific applications.
