Rapid and accurate in situ determination of dopamine is of great significance in the study of neurological diseases. In this work, poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): poly (styrenesulfonic acid) (PEDOT: PSS)/graphene oxide (GO) fibers were fabricated by an effective method based on microfluidic wet spinning technology. The composite microfibers with stratified and dense arrangement were continuously prepared by injecting PEDOT: PSS and GO dispersion solutions into a microfluidic chip. PEDOT: PSS/GO fiber microelectrodes with high electrochemical activity and enhanced electrochemical oxidation activity of dopamine were constructed by controlling the structure composition of the microfibers with varying flow rate. The fabricated fiber microelectrode had a low detection limit (4.56 nM) and wide detection range (0.01–8.0 µM) for dopamine detection with excellent stability, repeatability, and reproducibility. In addition, the PEDOT: PSS/GO fiber microelectrode prepared was successfully used for the detection of dopamine in human serum and PC12 cells. The strategy for the fabrication of multi-component fiber microelectrodes is a new and effective approach for monitoring the intercellular neurotransmitter dopamine and has high potential as an implantable neural microelectrode. A novel, simple, and versatile electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensing platform for Pb(II) ions was developed based on DNAzyme with peroxidase-like activity to catalyze the reduction of hydrogen peroxide. Poly (diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) with positive charge was adsorbed onto the surface of graphene oxide (GO) and then CdS quantum dots (QDs) with negative charge were enriched to the surface of GO by electrostatic interaction between CdS QDs and PDDA to prepare a composite (denoted as [email protected] ) which was immobilized on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). When hydrogen peroxide was used as coreactant CdS QDs can produce ECL signal. G-rich DNA strand, i . e . T30695, can combine with Pb (II) ions to form a stable parallel G-quadruplex. The G-quadruplex can further combine with hemin to form DNAzyme which have catalysis towards the reduction of hydrogen peroxide causing the decrease of ECL signal. Amino-modified T30695 was attached to [email protected] composite by the reaction between the amino group of T30695 and carboxyl group of CdS QDs. The ECL signal of the biosensor was linearly dependent on the logarithm of Pb(II) concentration from 1.0 × 10 − 14 to 1.0 × 10 − 11 M with a detection limit of 9 fM. An excellent performance of ECL biosensor indicated that it is promising for Pb(II) detection in real samples.

The abuse of antibiotics led to significant environmental pollution through persistent residues in water bodies, posing severe risks to both ecological systems and human health. Addressing this issue, recent studies highlighted the potential of carbonaceous materials as effective adsorbents for removing antibiotics from water. Despite the proven potential of various carbonaceous materials in water purification, the application of three-dimensional porous microspherical aerogels as adsorbents presented a promising yet comparatively less discussed avenue in the quest for efficient antibiotic removal from aquatic environments. This work introduced a novel KGM-GO/CS/SA composite aerogel sphere, developed via a simple sol–gel and dripping method, using konjac glucomannan (KGM) as a cross-linking agent. We extensively analyzed its adsorption efficiency against common antibiotics such as tetracycline (TC), ofloxacin (OFL), and sulfadiazine (SDZ), revealing its rapid adsorption kinetics and high capacity. The aerogel's micro-morphology, characterized by a graded porous structure with abundant microporous channels and a low bulk density of 21.2 mg/cm3, along with its enhanced mechanical properties and thermal stability due to KGM cross-linking, signified its potential as a robust adsorbent. The surface functional groups facilitated diverse interaction mechanisms, including electrostatic attraction, hydrogen bonding, and π-π interactions, contributing to the adsorbent's high performance. Furthermore, the surface charge of the aerogel varied with pH, enhancing its electrostatic adsorption capabilities. The adsorption behavior was best described by the quasi-second-order and Langmuir models, with maximum capacities of 427.63 mg/g for OFL, 374.35 mg/g for TC, and 231.09 mg/g for SDZ, thereby offering a promising solution for antibiotic pollution remediation and illustrating the utility of carbon-based aerogel microspheres in environmental applications.

Graphene oxide (GO) membranes can purify wastewater due to their unique two-dimensional channels, but they are susceptible to mechanical damage during use, which reduces membrane performance. In this paper, EGO nanosheets were prepared by grafting ethylenediamine (EDA) small molecules onto GO at high temperatures and introducing aldehyde groups on the molecular chain of double aldehyde cellulose nanocrystals (DACNC), which reacted with reactive amino groups on the surface of the EGO nanosheets via a Schiff base reaction to create interlayer nanochannels in the composite membrane. The best performing EGO-DACNC24 composite membranes were prepared by adding different aldehyde substitution degrees and different amounts of DACNC to mediate the crosslinked interlayer nanochannels and network structure of the composite membranes. The water flux is more than 10 times that of pure GO membrane, and the rejection rate of dye molecules larger than 400 Da is always more than 99%. Excellent separation results are achieved after 120 h of operation due to the structural stability of the membrane resulting from chemical cross-linking. Damaged in practical applications, small amounts of added DACNC can achieve self-healing through the synergistic effect of dynamic Schiff base and hydrogen bonding interactions.

In this investigation, the surface tribological behavior of YG8/TC4 contacts under microgel lubrication was explored, utilizing thermal- and pH-sensitive PNIPAM-co-PAA-(IF-MoS 2 /GO) composite microgels as lubricant additives. Through the application of a ball-on-disk reciprocating tribometer, the study demonstrated the outstanding lubrication capabilities of the composite microgels. The lubrication process involving PNIPAM-co-PAA-(IF-MoS 2 /GO) composite microgels initiated a tribo-chemical reaction, leading to the generation of a larger quantity of TiS 2 with exceptional lubricating properties on the friction surface compared to alternative lubrication conditions. The effective isolation of the friction pair by PNIPAM-co-PAA composite microgels contributed to the reduction in tribo-oxidation of the sliding surfaces , while the presence of IF-MoS 2 facilitated the formation of TiS 2 . Furthermore, the facile sliding property of GO nanosheets played a crucial role in achieving overall excellent lubrication performance. The synergistic effects arising from the components in PNIPAM-co-PAA-(IF-MoS 2 /GO) composite microgels introduce a novel and effective strategy for controlling the friction and wear of YG8/TC4 contacts.

Dimethyl carbonate (DMC) is an eco-friendly organic compound, but its production process generates a methanol (MeOH)/DMC azeotrope, resulting in high energy consumption for separation. With its low energy consumption and environmental benefits, pervaporation membrane separation technology presents a promising solution for separating azeotropic organic mixtures. In this study, polyethyleneimine (PEI) is employed as the membrane material for the separation of MeOH/DMC, owing to its strong affinity for MeOH. However, the poor organic solvent swelling resistance is a significant challenge for the PEI matrix. Therefore, ultrahigh molecular weight PEI (Mn = 750,000) is utilized, and graphene oxide (GO) is incorporated to improve the organic solvent resistance of the PEI-based membrane. The results indicate that the optimized membrane demonstrates a total flux of 0.67 kg·m -2 ·h -1 and a separation factor of 89 for a 10 wt% MeOH/DMC mixture at 60°C. Notably, enhancing the molecular weight of PEI and introducing GO contribute to a significant improvement in the membrane's resistance to solvent swelling, breaking the trade-off between separation performance and swelling resistance. This work demonstrates the strong potential of PEI membrane materials for effective application in the separation of MeOH/DMC.

Recently, membrane distillation (MD) processes using two-dimensional graphene oxide (GO) membranes exhibited good light water/deuteriated water (H 2 O/D 2 O) separation performance, which depended on membrane materials and structures. This raises the need for the development of novel membrane materials and revealing the relationship of membrane structure-separation performance to further increase separation performance. Here, one-dimensional (1D) MWCNT-based membrane was explored for the separation of H 2 O/D 2 O using the water source with specially chosen concentration of deuterium (D) in air–gap membrane distillation processes, and the resultant MWCNT membrane gave lower permeation flux and similar separation factor compared with the pristine GO membrane. Then GO-MWCNT composite membranes with different structures obtained by mixing various weight ratios of GO : MWCNTs were investigated, and their separation performance was found to be related with membrane structures. The resulted 3D hierarchical GO-MWCNT composite membrane (G/M−1:3) gave the highest permeation flux of 0.947 L·m −2 ·h −1 among all GO-MWCNT composite membranes, higher than that of the pristine GO membrane, while the separation factor of G/M−1:3 (1.045) and the pristine GO membrane (1.046) was comparable. Furthermore, the correlation of membrane structure-separation performance was reviewed. These results demonstrate the first example of MWCNT membrane and related composite membranes for H 2 O/D 2 O separation and suggest that H 2 O/D 2 O separation performance in membrane distillation processes can be improved by tailoring the structure of GO-MWCNT composite membranes. As the separation of H 2 O/D 2 O is usually used as a model in the laboratory for light water/tritiated water (H 2 O/HTO) separation process, this approach can guide for developing novel membrane materials and structures to deliver appropriate H 2 O/HTO separation processes needed in the nuclear energy field.

Here we report the tribological properties of nanosized onion-like carbon (OLC), OLC-nanodiamond (ND), and OLC-graphene oxide (GO) as additives in lubricant oil tested under different wear pressure. Under the wear pressure of 588 N of the four-ball testing, the 0.125 wt% addition OLC reduced the wear volume and the wear scar diameter by 36.29 % and 82.42 %. TEM characterization revealed structural changes in contour of the OLC particles after the wear testing. Pressure-induced agglomeration was seen for the OLC nanospheres, and the squeezed lattice changes resulted in formation of sp 3 diamond structure inside the spheres. These structural changes are directly related to the loading force. However, addition of the sp 3 NDs and sp 2 GO deteriorated the lubricating performances of the OLC-added lubricant oil.

RDX (Royal Demolition Explosive) is renowned for its exceptional explosive performance, yet it is prone to combustion and explosion when exposed to open flames, high temperatures, vibrations, impacts, and friction. Addressing these challenges is essential for the practical application of RDX. Molecular dynamics simulations were employed to calculate the binding energies of composite particle models with varying ratios of TATB/RDX/PVAc, revealing that the TATB/RDX/PVAc (40/55/5) combination exhibited significantly higher binding energies, indicating optimal system stability. Experimental findings indicated that the optimal processing conditions are a polymerization temperature of 60 °C, a stirring rate of 350 r/min, and an initiator dosage of 1 wt%. Consequently, TATB/RDX/PVAc/GO microspheres with uniform and dense morphology were successfully synthesized. Through the calculation and comparison of thermal decomposition kinetic parameters, it was determined that the thermal explosion critical temperature of RDX in composite particles is elevated by 4.27 °C and 2.97 °C compared to pure RDX, with the T p0 value increased by 5.5 °C and 3.85 °C, respectively. For TATB in composite particles, the thermal explosion critical temperature was raised to 21.51 °C and 17.79 °C, with the T p0 value enhanced by 22.96 °C and 18.56 °C, respectively. Furthermore, the critical impact sensitivity (55 J) is 4.5 times greater than that of refinement RDX (12 J), and the critical friction sensitivity (288 N) is twice that of refinement RDX (144 N). The results demonstrate that TATB/RDX/PVAc/GO energetic composite microspheres, prepared via the Pickering emulsion polymerization method, possess excellent thermal stability and mechanical blunt sensitivity, providing a theoretical foundation for the broad application of RDX.

Introduction: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a severe neurological condition with limited treatment options. Polylactic acid (PLA)+graphene oxide (GO)+anti-TNF-α (Ab) composites have shown potential in regulating immune responses and promoting neural repair. Methods: Electrospinning PLA+GO+Ab materials were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Their effects on neural stem cells (NSCs) and macrophage polarization were evaluated through in vitro assays, including proliferation, migration, differentiation, and flow cytometry. A rat SCI model was used to assess motor function recovery and histological changes. Results: PLA+GO+Ab promoted NSC proliferation, migration, and differentiation while inducing macrophage polarization toward the M2 phenotype, reducing inflammation. In the SCI model, PLA+GO+Ab treatment enhanced motor function recovery, reduced spinal cord damage, and promoted axonal regeneration and oligodendrocyte maturation. RNA sequencing identified activation of the Rap1 signaling pathway, contributing to these effects.Discussion: PLA+GO+Ab composites effectively modulate the neuroimmune microenvironment, supporting SCI recovery by promoting neural repair and immune regulation. These findings suggest its potential as a therapeutic biomaterial for SCI treatment.

This study focuses on the preparation of a highly active surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrate, where Ag nanoparticles synthesized by the Lee–Meisel method are loaded onto the surface of GO@PVP nanoparticles through classical electrostatic attraction. The substrate was characterized by SEM and XPS analysis. The SERS-active substrate was utilized for the detection of phenanthrene in aqueous solutions, achieving a detection limit of 10−8g/L (5.6 × 10−11mol/L). In comparison to conventional Raman spectroscopy, this method exhibits a significant reduction in the detection limit and holds promise for trace polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) monitoring in environmental samples.

In this study, a new technique was developed which combines magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometer (GC–MS), for the analysis of 17 phthalate esters (PAEs). First, a composite of iron (used as the magnetic part) and graphene oxide (GO) was synthesized for application in MSPE. Scanning electron microscop, X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy were used to characterize this material. Finally, magnetic graphene oxide (Fe₃O₄@GO) was used to extract PAEs from water samples. Various parameters relevant to the extraction were optimized, such as the amount of adsorbent employed, adsorption time, luent solvent types and volume, and sample pH. These optimum conditions resulted in calibration curves for the 17 PAEs, showing linear relationships between concentration and response at concentrations of 25 to 2500 µg L⁻¹ with correlation coefficients from 0.9983 to 1.000. Limit of detection and limit of quantitationfor the PAEs ranged from 0.030 to 0.12 µg L⁻¹ and 0.10–0.40 µg L⁻¹, respectively. The recovery rates for these compounds in spiked samples were ranging from 81.5% to 109% with relative standard deviation less than 6.12%. The effectiveness of method was further demonstrated by its use in detecting 17 PAEs in samples of drinking and bottled water. Compounds such as DEP, DIBP, DBP, and DCHP were identified. These results thus highlight the suitability of Fe₃O₄@GO as an adsorbent for concentrating and purifying PAEs in water samples.
