s The development of a new type of photocatalyst for multiple deep degradation of phenol in wastewater together with the elucidation of the method for this process are highly significant in the treatment of sewage. In this report, three-dimensional heterostructured La(OH)CO 3 /NiAl-LDHs composite catalysts were prepared by loading ultrathin NiAl-LDHs onto La(OH)CO 3 substrates using a hydrothermal synthesis method and an in-situ growth technique. Photocatalytic experimental studies showed that La(OH)CO 3 /NiAl-LDHs could remove up to 97 % of (degrade) phenol from water, which was 5.86 and nearly two-fold greater than pure NiAl-LDHs and La(OH)CO 3 . Even after 5 cycles, La(OH)CO 3 /NiAl-LDHs still sustains an excellent photocatalytic stability (93.6 % phenol degradation). Fabrication of ultrathin NiAl-LDHs greatly enhanced the surface expanse of the composites from 1.442 m 2 /g to 140.16 m 2 /g, exposing more active sites. According to the in-situ XPS analysis under irradiation and the capture of active species on La(OH)CO 3 /NiAl-LDHs, the electrons would be transferred from La(OH)CO 3 to ultrathin NiAl-LDHs. The S-type heterointerfaces formed at the La(OH)CO 3 substrate with ultrathin NiAl-LDHs nanosheets effectively inhibited carrier complexation and improved the catalytic performance. Meanwhile, the formation of oxygen vacancies between La(OH)CO 3 and NiAl-LDHs further enhanced the photocatalytic activity. The photocatalytic degradation mechanism of phenol showed that the main radicals of this catalytic reaction were •O 2 - and •OH. The three-dimensional stratified staging engaged with La(OH)CO 3 and the ultrathin NiAl-LDHs mixed nanosheet faces offered a new path to advance superlative catalysts to treat sewage.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from industrial activities and transportation pose significant health risks to humans and contribute to environmental issues. As a result, there has been growing interest in developing effective technologies for VOC removal. This study investigates the removal of low-concentration VOCs from air using a membrane catalytic process that combines a supported ionic liquid membrane (SILM) with a novel visible light-driven photocatalyst. The system, consisting of a 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([BMIM]PF6) SILM and N-doped La–TiO2 photocatalysts, achieves a mineralization rate of 40%–60% and a removal efficiency of approximately 75% for VOCs under visible light exposure for 10 hours. The synergistic effects of membrane separation and photocatalytic degradation significantly enhance the overall VOC removal efficiency compared to using either method alone. The membrane catalytic system demonstrates particular applicability and stability for various organic compounds, including toluene, acetone, chloroform, benzene, and xylene. Overall, this work presents a promising approach for the removal and mineralization of VOCs.

Thermal insulation materials play an increasingly important role in protecting mechanical parts functioning at high temperatures. In this study, a new porous high-entropy (La 1/6 Ce 1/6 Pr 1/6 Sm 1/6 Eu 1/6 Gd 1/6 )PO 4 (HE (6RE 1/6 )PO 4 ) ceramics was prepared by combining the high-entropy method with the pore-forming agent method and the effect of different starch contents (0–60vol%) on this ceramic properties was systematically investigated. The results show that the porous HE (6RE 1/6 )PO 4 ceramics with 60vol% starch exhibit the lowest thermal conductivity of 0.061 W·m −1 ·K −1 at room temperature and good pore structure stability with a linear shrinkage of approximately 1.67%. Moreover, the effect of large regular spherical pores (>10 µm) on its thermal insulation performance was discussed, and an optimal thermal conductivity prediction model was screened. The superior properties of the prepared porous HE (6RE 1/6 )PO 4 ceramics allow them to be promising insulation materials in the future.

Solid polymer electrolytes have emerged as promising materials for next-generation lithium metal batteries due to their enhanced safety and high energy density potential. However, their widespread adoption is hindered by slow ion transport and inefficient lithium-ion (Li + ) selectivity. To overcome these limitations, this study introduces a composite electrolyte by incorporating functionalized La(OH) 3 nanofibers with oxygen vacancies into a Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) matrix. These nanofibers, synthesized via a simple method, are designed to improve Li + mobility by leveraging their oxygen vacancies to immobilize TFSI − anions from the bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI). Simultaneously, amino groups on the nanofiber surface act as binding sites, facilitating lithium salt dissociation and creating supplementary ion transport pathways. Density functional theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations reveal that the functionalized La(OH) 3 nanofibers effectively suppress TFSI − anion movement while reducing the energy barrier for Li + migration. This mechanism elevates the Li + transference number to 0.51, a significant improvement over the conventional PEO-based electrolytes. The composite electrolyte exhibits excellent performance in Li||Li cells, maintaining stable cycling for over 600 h at a current density of 0.38 mA cm −2 . Furthermore, a solid-state LiFePO 4 ||Li battery demonstrates highly reversible capacities of 100.2 mAh g −1 after 600 cycles at 8C. By combining anion confinement strategies with tailored electronic interactions, this work provides a practical approach to advancing solid-state battery performance. The findings not only highlight the potential of La(OH) 3 -PEO composite electrolytes but also establish a new framework for optimizing ionic conductivity through targeted molecular design.

Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 (CZA) catalyst remains the benchmark for methanol synthesis but suffers from active-site sintering and insufficient CO2 activation. In this study, we proposed a dual strategy to enhance and regulate the active sites of CZA: hydrothermal treatment induces Cu–Zn coordination to create high-density Cu–ZnO1–x interfaces that promote CO2 conversion, while subsequent La doping regulates Cu0/Cu+ species to favor methanol selectivity. As a result, the maximum space-time yield (STY) of methanol over the designed CZA&5%La-LRCP (prepared by the ligand-regulated coprecipitation method) catalyst improved significantly from 283.0 gMeOH·kgcat–1·h–1 for the conventional coprecipitation-prepared CZA to 400.4 gMeOH·kgcat–1·h–1 under the tested conditions, surpassing most literature reports on La-doped Cu-based catalysts. Comprehensive characterizations and kinetic studies revealed that high-density Cu–ZnO1–x interfaces enhance CO2 adsorption and activation, while uniformly distributed electron-enriched Cu0/Cu+ species promote H2 dissociation and facilitate formate formation and transformation, together establishing an efficient pathway for CO2 activation and hydrogenation. This study demonstrates a promising strategy for the rational design of CO2hydrogenation catalysts through the synergistic modulation of interfacial structure and electronic properties.

Piezocatalysis utilizes mechanical energy to achieve the required charge separation for redox reactions, a promising method for clean H 2 O 2 production. However, the efficiency of conventional piezocatalysts is limited by the undesirable low piezoelectricity. Herein, novel piezocatalysts composed of La, Sr, Co (Fe) in simple single perovskites (La 0.5 Sr 0.5 FeO 3-δ and La 0.5 Sr 0.5 CoO 3-δ ) and Ruddlesden-Popper (R-P) type perovskites (LaSrFeO 4-δ and LaSrCoO 4-δ ) are developed for piezocatalytic H 2 O 2 production. Results indicate that Fe-containing catalysts outperform Co-containing counterparts and the unique R-P perovskite oxides demonstrate significantly enhanced piezocatalytic performance than the corresponding single perovskites. For example, via piezocatalysis, the LaSrFeO 4-δ exhibits H 2 O 2 yields of 548 (in 10 % ethanol) and 247 µmol g −1 h −1 (without sacrificial agent), improved by a factor of 1.14, 4.94, or 21.73 compared to La 0.5 Sr 0.5 FeO 3-δ , LaSrCoO 4-δ , or La 0.5 Sr 0.5 CoO 3-δ , respectively. The piezoelectricity is an overwhelming factor in determining the H 2 O 2 generation. Furthermore, the piezoelectricity and oxygen vacancy (OV) content is well correlated. The R-P phase with lower OV exhibits a higher piezoelectricity because of the eliminated pining effect to the polarization domain reversion. Mechanism exploration suggests that H 2 O 2 formation stems from the efficient O 2 reduction via a 2-electron transferring pathway, during which the piezoelectric polarization drives the charge separation and transportation, favoring the redox reactions.

Nickel (Ni)-based catalyst is widely adopted for tar removing in the process of biomass gasification. In order to improve low-temperature catalytic activity of Ni-based catalyst, three-dimensional ordered macro/mesoporous (3DOM/m) Ce 0.8 Zr 0.1 M 0.1 (M = Gd, Pr and La) ternary solid solutions were prepared and used as the carriers of Ni/Ce 0.8 Zr 0.1 M 0.1 catalysts. The obtained catalysts were employed to catalyze the steam reforming of toluene (SRT). The results demonstrated that all the Ni/Ce 0.8 Zr 0.1 M 0.1 showed excellent low-temperature catalytic activity and presented higher toluene conversion than Ni/Ce 0.8 Zr 0.2 . Among the catalysts, Ni/Ce 0.8 Zr 0.1 Pr 0.1 exhibited the highest toluene conversion, reaching 96.1% at 550 ℃ (toluene = 185 μmol min −1 , S/C = 3). The characterization results of catalysts showed that all the catalysts presented ordered three-dimensional morphology containing interconnected periodic macropores with abundant mesopores existing on the wall. The rare earth dopants were incorporated into the lattice of cerium-zirconium solid solution. As a result, the thermal stability of the carrier was improved, which made the BET specific surface area of the carrier increase and the dispersion of active component of Ni increase. Moreover, the incorporation of dopants produced more oxygen vacancies, thus improved reactive oxygen mobility. These superior properties of 3DOM/m Ce 0.8 Zr 0.1 M 0.1 led to their excellent catalytic activity in SRT. Graphical Abstract

Simultaneous removal of cation (e.g., Pb(Ⅱ), Cd(Ⅱ)) and oxyanion (e.g., As(Ⅴ)) heavy metals have attracted increasing interest for adsorption applications due to the complexity of heavy metal polluted groundwater. Manganese-lanthanum binary oxides immobilized on hydrothermal carbonization carbon (Mn x La 1-x @HTCC) were therefore rationally designed in this work, and the Mn-La oxides immobilized on HTCC exhibited more uniform dispersion compared to bulk phase. In single adsorption systems, superior adsorption of different heavy metals could be achieved by tuning the molar ratio of Mn to La, and Mn leaching was reduced by ∼ 75% compared with Mn@HTCC (without La doping). In the coexisting systems, the simultaneous presence of As(Ⅴ) and Pb(Ⅱ) greatly enhanced adsorption of both two heavy metals, while competition was observed in the coexistence of As(Ⅴ) and Cd(Ⅱ). By analyzing the “release-readsorption” phenomenon of Mn and the variation of Mn valence during adsorption, the different roles of Mn species in the removal of three heavy metals were proposed. Finally, high-speed flow adsorption column experiments confirmed that the Mn x La 1-x @HTCC composite can effectively and continuously adsorb heavy metals accompanied by trace Mn leaching content. Overall, this study indicates the potential of Mn-La carbon composites as a novel adsorbent in groundwater remediation.

In this study, iron oxide (Fe3O4) was coated with ZrO2, and doped with three rare earth elements((Y/La/Ce), and a multi-staged rare earth doped zirconia adsorbent was prepared by using uniform design U14, Response Surface methodology, and orthogonal design, to remove As3+and As5+from the aqueous solution. Based on the results of TEM, EDS, XRD, FTIR, and N2-adsorption desorption test, the best molar ratio of Fe3O4:TMAOH:Zirconium butoxide:Y:La:Ce was selected as 1:12:11:1:0.02:0.08. The specific surface area and porosity was 263 m2/g, and 0.156 cm3/g, respectively. The isothermal curves and fitting equation parameters show that Langmuir model, and Redlich Peterson model fitted well. As per calculations of the Langmuir model, the highest adsorption capacities for As3+and As5+ions were recorded as 68.33 mg/g, 84.23 mg/g, respectively. The fitting curves and equations of the kinetic models favors the quasi second order kinetic model. Material regeneration was very effective, and even in the last cycle the regeneration capacities of both As3+and As5+were 75.15%, and 77.59%, respectively. Adsorption and regeneration results suggest that adsorbent has easy synthesis method, and reusable, so it can be used as a potential adsorbent for the removal of arsenic from aqueous solution. Keywords:magnetic Fe3O4;uniform design;surface response methodology;multi-staged doping;arsenic (III & V) removal

Solvent extraction is the most widely used method for separation and purification of rare earth elements, and organic extractants such as di(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (P204) and di(1-methyl-heptyl) methyl phosphonate (P350) are most commonly used for industrial applications. However, the presence of impurity ions in the feed liquid during extraction can easily emulsify the extractant and affect the quality of rare earth products. Aluminum ion is the most common impurity ion in the feed liquid, and it is an important cause of emulsification of the extractant. In this study, the influence of aluminum ion was investigated on the extraction of light rare earth elements by the P204-P350 system in hydrochloric acid medium. The results show that Al3+competes with light rare earths in the extraction process, reducing the overall extraction rate. In addition, the Al3+stripping rate is low and there is continuous accumulation of Al3+in the organic phase during the stripping process, affecting the extraction efficiency and even causing emulsification. The slope method and infrared detection were utilized to explore the formation of an extraction compound of Al3+and the extractant P204-P350 that entered the organic phase as AlCl[(HA)2]2P350(o).Keywords:Al3+;light rare earths;P204;P350;impurity

In order to facilitate recovery and enhance phosphate adsorption capacity of lanthanum (La)-based materials, magnetic Fe 3 O 4 @MgAl-LDH@La(OH) 3 (MMAL) composites with a hierarchical core-shell structure were synthesized. In the preparation process, citric acid played a vital role in the morphology control of La(OH) 3 , deciding the La content and phosphate adsorption capacity of materials. MMAL composites with a citric acid-to-La molar ratio of 0.375 (MMAL-0.375) exhibited a high adsorption capacity of 66.5 mg P/g, fast adsorption kinetics of 30 min, widely applicable pH range of 4.0–10.0, outstanding selective adsorption performance, and superior reusability in batch adsorption experiments. Moreover, the phosphate in the desorption solution could be concentrated by repeated use of desorption solution and recovered by using CaCl 2 . When the obtained composites were used for the sedimentary phosphorus sequestration and recovery, the results showed that the addition of MMAL-0.375 effectively reduced the concentration of soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP) in the overlying water. Accompanied by an evident increase in HCl-extractable phosphorus (HCl–P), mobile phosphorus (P mob ) in sediments was effectively reduced. This work indicates that the MMAL-0.375 composites can serve as an effective tool for the removal of phosphate from wastewater and the control of sedimentary phosphorus.

Using diatoms, a typical microbial system of biomineralization, as a template, La 2 O 3 and Y 2 O 3 are synthesized in situ via biological self-assembly during the cultivation of diatoms in La 3+ /Y 3+ -containing media without any supplements, reducing agents or triggering agents. Then, diatom frustules modified with La and Y nanoparticles (NPs) are prepared via high-temperature reduction and crystallization. Furthermore, it has been used as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries and has excellent electrochemical properties. The DFT calculations reveal that the doping of La and Y changes the energy band structure near the Fermi level of SiO 2 and increases the current carrying density. The diatom frustule SiO 2 anodes loaded with La and Y nanoparticles (DBS@C-La-10 and DBS@C-Y-10) have specific discharge capacities of approximately 1021.3 and 980.7 mAh g −1 , respectively, after 220 cycles. This is the first study in which the mineralization behavior of rare earth elements on diatom frustules is reported and applied to anodes in lithium-ion batteries. This work provides a new option for applying rare earth elements in the field of energy storage.
