A series of molybdenum (Mo) and cerium (Ce) co-doped Y 2 Zr 2 O 7 inorganic cool pigments were synthesized via a high-temperature solid-state reaction method. Substitution of Zr by Mo introduces interstitial oxygen into the lattice, leading to lattice expansion while enhancing the near-infrared reflectance of the pigments. Mo coexists in the form of Mo 6+ and Mo 5+ ions, with the yellow coloration primarily originating from Mo 5+ . The lattice expansion induced by the incorporation of larger Ce ions suppresses the formation of interstitial oxygen, thereby promoting an increase in Mo 5+ content, which results in a higher b* value while maintaining high near-infrared reflectance. The optimized composition (Y 1.55 Ce 0.45 Zr 1 Ce 0.65 Mo 0.35 O 7 ) exhibits the following chromatic parameters: L* = 88.26, a* = -3.19, b* = 55.15, and R NIR =93.68%. Furthermore, the simulation experiment revealed that the surface temperature of the coating based on the as-prepared pigment is 16.3 °C lower than that of the cement coating and 11.4 °C lower than that of the commercial iron yellow coating, demonstrating excellent solar reflective performance.

Controlling phase evolution during nitridation is essential for creating active interfaces in multi-metal electrocatalysts. However, the nitridation pathways in complex systems such as Mo-Fe-Ni molybdates remain poorly defined. Herein, tuning the Fe contents in the Fe-Mo precursor directly governs ammonia activation and drives nitridation-induced reconstruction. Increasing Fe concentration promotes NH3 decomposition, shifting the product from an oxide-rich phase (N-doped MoO2-FeMoO4-NiMoO4-NiO, denoted N/MoO2-MoFeNi-O) to a nitride-dominated heterostructure comprising MoO2, Mo2N, FeN and Ni4N (N/MoO2-MoFeNi-N). The optmized N/MoO2-MoFeNi-N nitride-oxide interfaces enhance electrical conductivity, optimize oxygen-intermediate adsorption, and improve corrosion resistance. As a result, N/MoO2-MoFeNi-N exhibits superior oxygen evolution performance in both alkaline freshwater and seawater, requiring overpotentials of only 309/392 and 334/499 mV to reach 500 and 1000 mA cm-2, respectively. DFT calculations identify the MoO2@FeN interface is the most active site with the lowest energetic barrier for the potential-limiting step. The catalyst also demonstrates efficient oxygen reduction activity, enabling high-performance zinc-air batteries with open-circuit voltage of 1.33 V, peak power density of 84.2 mW cm-2, and stable cycling over 140 h. This work clarifies the role of Fe in directing nitridation pathways, providing a rational route to construct durable, interface-rich nitride-oxide architectures for advanced oxygen atalysis.

The substantial presence of nitrogen oxides (NO and NO 2 ) in outdoor environments detrimentally impacts natural ecosystems and exerts significant influence on urban climates. Conventional NO x treatment methods frequently suffer from challenges such as harsh reaction conditions and high energy consumption. Consequently, the development of advanced photocatalytic systems to efficiently degrade NO x while minimizing the formation of toxic byproducts represents a critical challenge in environmental catalysis. In this study, a novel ternary composite material (5% Mo-CN/InP-NBOC) was constructed via hydrothermal synthesis and surface modification strategies, achieving 42% NO oxidation efficiency under visible light irradiation with a mere 0.9% NO 2 generation rate. This performance demonstrates efficient photocatalytic NO oxidation while effectively suppressing NO 2 production. Systematic characterization techniques, including XRD, TEM, and XPS, confirmed the successful integration of InP quantum dots (5–10 nm) and amorphous Mo-CN onto NBOC nanosheets, forming an intimate heterojunction structure. PL and ESR analyses revealed that Mo-CN enhances charge carrier separation and governs the NO oxidation process through the activation of dual free radical pathways (⋅O 2 − and ⋅OH). This work establishes a “quantum dot-primary catalyst-cocatalyst” ternary collaborative design paradigm, providing experimental evidence and theoretical models to address the challenges of synergistic optimization among activity, selectivity, and stability in photocatalytic NO x treatment.

Lignin is the most abundant renewable organic aromatic compound carbon source in nature, and it is of great significance to convert it into high-value fine chemicals. However, achieving this goal requires regulating the selectivity of the lignin hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) reaction is crucial to breaking the competitive relationship between C–O bond cleavage and aromatic ring saturation. This study proposes oxygen-philic-hydrogen activation dual-functional site synergy strategy, using NiCoAl-LDH as the precursor, and constructing a NiCoMoFeAlO x multi-metal oxide catalyst by introducing Mo and Fe. Experiments and DFT calculations show that the catalyst achieves precise coupling of depolymerization and deoxygenation through a tandem synergy mechanism, the NiCo sites efficiently activate H 2 to supply active hydrogen, the oxygen-philic Mo sites and Fe selectively adsorb and cleave C–O bonds, and the intermetallic synergy effectively inhibits excessive hydrogenation of aromatic rings, directing the reaction path to phenolic products with retained aromatic rings. In the real lignin HDO reaction, the catalyst achieves a liquid yield as high as 78% and 64.9% selectivity for C 6+ cyclohexanol. This research provides a new paradigm for the rational design of multi-functional catalysts and the realization of directed conversion of lignin. Electrolytic hydrogen production from water is a cost-effective renewable energy technology, but its development is severely constrained by high energy consumption, precious metal catalysts, and low-value products of anode. Given that inexpensive glycerol exhibits a significantly lower redox potential than water, this study developed a 3D coral-like nickel–molybdenum sulfur bifunctional nanocatalyst (Ni–Mo–S/NF) based on nickel foam, which served as both the anode and cathode in an alkaline glycerol electrolyte, enabling the simultaneous production of high-value formate at the anode and high-purity hydrogen at the cathode. Notably, in a two-electrode system, the alkaline glycerol electrolyzer required only 1.37 V to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm−2, which was 280 mV lower than that of an alkaline aqueous solution system, indicating an about 17% reduction in energy consumption compared to conventional water electrolysis. Meanwhile, this system reached a faradaic efficiency of 95.0% for formate production and 99.6% for hydrogen evolution. Benefiting from the outstanding performance of the noble-metal-free Ni–Mo–S/NF catalyst, the proposed technology for simultaneous formate and hydrogen production via glycerol electrooxidation offers a novel pathway for the green production of high-value chemicals and energy-saving hydrogen generation.

The design of efficient and cost-effective bifunctional catalysts to replace precious metal-based catalysts remains a critical challenge in electrocatalytic water splitting. Herein, we report a Mo-Fe co-doped Ni 3 S 2 nanorod arrays grown on a nickel-iron foam substrate via a facile hydrothermal synthesis. This dual metal-doped nanorod structure synergistically modulates the electronic structure while maximizing accessible active sites, endowing the Mo-Fe-Ni 3 S 2 electrode with exceptional bifunctional activity for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline media. The resulting Mo-Fe-Ni 3 S 2 electrode requires only 180 mV for HER and 275 mV for OER at a current density of 100 mA cm −2 , coupled with long-term stability exceeding 50 h. Remarkably, when integrated into a single-stack cell for practical application, the Mo-Fe-Ni 3 S 2 electrode exhibits outstanding performance, achieving a current density of 100 mA cm −2 at a potential of 1.87 V and showing no potential degradation after 100 hours of continuous operation at 100 mA cm −2 . This work not only presents a high-performance bifunctional catalyst but also provides fundamental insights into the design of advanced electrocatalysts through rational heteroatom doping strategies.

The ultrafine Mo-Y 2 O 3 composite powders were successfully synthesized by innovative freeze-drying method. Consequently, the freeze-dried Mo-Y 2 O 3 composite powders with high sintering activities possess an average grain size of 54 nm. After low temperature sintering at 1600 °C, the Mo-Y 2 O 3 alloys maintaining a high density (99.6 %) have the finest grain size (620 nm) comparing with available literature about oxide dispersion strengthened molybdenum alloy (ODS-Mo). The oxide particles remain their small size (mainly <50 nm) within Mo grains and at Mo grain boundaries. Furthermore, the Y 5 Mo 2 O 12 particles were firstly observed within Mo matrix, and its formation can absorb nearby oxygen impurities, which involves the purification of Mo matrix. The mechanical properties show that Mo-Y 2 O 3 alloy possess a high hardness of 487 ± 28 HV 0.2 , a high yield strength of 902 MPa, a high compressive strength of 1110 MPa, respectively. Our work suggests that freeze-drying and subsequent low temperature sintering can shed light on the preparation of ultrafine ODS-Mo alloys with high performance.

To effectively inhibit the thermal oxidation and thermal failure of diamonds when working in a high–temperature aerobic environment, a Mo–B–C coating was designed and prepared to protect diamonds from oxidation. A two–step synthesis method was used to form coatings with different B contents on diamonds by adjusting the reaction temperature, and the oxidation kinetics and oxidation mechanism of the coated diamonds were investigated in the temperature range of 700°C–1200 °C. The mechanism of diamond protection in this study was the preferential oxidative sacrifice of Mo–B–C coatings to form a stable oxide layer on the diamond surface. For low–B coatings, the four stages of coating oxidation, low-temperature volatilization of MoO 3 , stable protection by B 2 O 3 , and rapid evaporation of B 2 O 3 were experienced sequentially with an increase in temperature. For high–B coatings, the preferential self-healing flow of B 2 O 3 not only inhibited the volatilization of MoO 3 but also provided a reducing environment for MoO 3 to generate high melting–point MoO 2 and Mo 2 C, which resulted in the formation of a double synergistic protective oxide layer and greatly enhanced the oxidation resistance of diamonds. Meanwhile, the protection of the oxide layer also maintained the compressive strength of diamonds under a high–temperature oxidizing atmosphere, indicating its excellent high temperature applicability. This study provides an effective method for enhancing the high–temperature oxidation resistance and strength of diamonds, which can be effectively applied to the extreme environmental use of diamond tools.

Bimetallic metal-organic framework (MOF) has attracted great interest as an electrode for supercapacitors . Most metal sources are limited to valences of + 2 and + 3. We select metal sources of Co (II) and Mo (VI) and demonstrated a crystalline bimetallic MOF precursor prepared by using a facile chemical synthesis. The one-step solvothermal strategy is assisted by thioacetamide (TAA) for the self-assembly Co-Mo-S nanosheet arrays (Co-Mo-S NSAs). TAA-induced etching is essential to regulate the assembly of amorphous structures. Otherwise, only a single-structure crystalline Co-Mo-S could be obtained. The Co-Mo-S NSAs show a large specific capacitance of 1805.28 F g −1 at a current density of 0.5 A g −1 . A Co-Mo-S NSAs//AC battery−supercapacitor hybrid (BSH) make with activated carbon as the negative electrode and Co-Mo-S NSAs as the positive electrode. At a current density of 0.5 A g −1 , the BSH shows a high energy density of 169.73 Wh kg −1 and a power density of 371.44 W kg −1 . After 50,000 cycles, the capacitance retention rate is as high as 94.44%, showing good reversibility and cycle life. This work provides an effective strategy for manufacturing bimetallic MOF-based metal sulfide heterostructure electrode materials for practical energy storage and conversion .

With the aim of finding efficient non-noble metal catalysts for water splitting, hierarchical Ni-Mo-polydopamine microflowers (Ni-Mo 2 C/C MF) were synthesized through a facile aqueous-phase reaction at room temperature. NiMoO 4 nanowires were utilized as both Ni and Mo source; they can complex with dopamine to form a hierarchical structure and affect the scale of the final product. The energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) measurement of Ni-Mo 2 C/C microflowers (MF) shows a high content of Mo 2 C and Ni (>90 wt %). For the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), the Ni-Mo 2 C/C MF displays a low overpotential of 99 mV at a current density of −10 mA cm −2 and a small Tafel slope of 73 mV dec −1 in 1.0 m KOH. By comparison with Mo 2 C/C microspheres (MS), the nanosized Ni-doped particles offer more active sites and enhance the kinetic performance. This facile synthesis strategy is also suitable for preparing other metal-Mo 2 C/C composites that can be used in the fields of catalysis and energy conversion. Graphical In flower : A flowerlike Ni-Mo-dopamine complex is first synthesized by a facile method under room temperature. Ni doping in situ is realized by utilizing NiMoO 4 nanowire as both template and precursor. An enlarged surface area and nanosized Ni doping greatly enhance the electrocatalytic properties of Ni-Mo 2 C/C due to more active sites.

The recovery of high value metals from spent hydrodesulfurization catalysts serves as a crucial strategy not only for mitigating environmental pollution but also for alleviating resource shortages. Herein, a hydrated deep eutectic solvent (P-DES) composed of betaine hydrochloride and p-toluenesulfonic acid was developed to selectively leach valuable metals from spent catalysts and enable their stepwise recovery. Under optimal conditions (BeCl:PTSA = 1:2, 45 wt% H 2 O, 90 ℃, 10 g L −1 , 180 min), leaching efficiencies of 90.03% for Ni, 98.60% for Mo, and 94.98% for V were achieved, while Al dissolution was suppressed to 9.82%. Density functional theory (DFT) and leaching kinetics both indicate an apparent metal release order of Mo > V > Ni, which is also consistent with the observed order of leaching efficiency (Mo > V > Ni). Independent Gradient Model based on Hirshfeld partitioning (IGMH) results show that P-DES features a Cl - -centered hydrogen-bond network, which provides a proton-active and chloride-containing microenvironment. During leaching, H + breaks M-O bonds, V(V) is reduced predominantly to V(IV) with minor Mo(VI) reduction, and the dissolved metals are stabilized as chloro or oxychloro species. In the subsequent recovery process, V(IV) was selectively precipitated at pH 5.2 within 3 min and calcined at 450 ℃ to produce V 2 O 5 . Mo was then extracted using an N235/2-ethylhexanol system and recovered as MoO 3 after calcination at 550 ℃. Finally, Ni was precipitated from the raffinate at pH 12.2 as Ni(OH) 2 . The recovery rates of V, Mo and Ni were obtained at 93.36, 97.36, and 89.52%. This work presents an integrated, green hydrometallurgical route for the comprehensive recycling of spent HDS catalysts.

In order to enhance the separation efficiency of charge carriers and thereby increase the rate of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution, a novel heterojunction composite material, Mo/Co-MOF@g-C 3 N 4 , was synthesized by loading flower-like Mo/Co-MOF onto two-dimensional ultrathin g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets through the regulation of the energy band alignment position of the materials. The construction of this heterojunction was designed to modulate the carrier transfer pathway, thereby addressing the poor adsorption capacity and sluggish migration of photogenerated electron–hole pairs in photocatalytic processes. This modification led to a significant enhancement in photocatalytic hydrogen evolution efficiency. Experimental results demonstrated a remarkable hydrogen evolution rate of 2.96 mmol·g − 1 ·h − 1 for the composite material. This performance represents an 8-fold enhancement compared to the rate of 0.37 mmol·g − 1 ·h − 1 observed for the pristine ultrathin g-C 3 N 4 . Furthermore, the composite exhibited excellent stability, maintaining its high activity without significant degradation over multiple cyclic testing runs. The Mo/Co-MOF@g-C 3 N 4 composite demonstrates both high hydrogen production yield and robust stability in photocatalytic water splitting reactions. This work presents a promising and novel candidate for future research in photocatalysts for hydrogen generation.
