Despite the great potential of nano-alloying anodes to prominently increase the electrochemical performance in sodium ions batteries , the low-cost and mass-produced methods, as well as the optimization design of alloy-based composites are still needed. Herein, a simple but effective electrospinning method is used to fabricate Sb/P@C composite nanospheres with adjustable P, Sb ratio and uniform morphology. It is found that the amount of Sb inside the Sb/P@C composite and the porous structure can be readily modulated. It is worth noting that the improved electrochemical performance of the Sb/P@C anodes can be attributed to the synergistic effect of Na + ions storage and superior charge transfer in the fabricated composite with reciprocally inlaid Sb/P and C that inhibiting the aggregation of nanospheres . Particularly, the mosaic distribution of Sb/P nanospheres in the carbon matrix not only accelerate the ions and electrons transfer but also serve as the buffer for alleviating the volumetric variation. Importantly, a high capacity of 350 mAh g −1 can be achieved even rising current density to 500 mA g −1 , indicating great potential for high rate sodium ions anodes. The tactics of this work should be general to other alloy-type systems, such as Sn, Bi et al., which also suffer from severe volume expansion causing electrode performance degradation.

The shielding effect effectively suppresses the chemical adsorption between platinum and sulfur species and hinders the formation of Pt-S bonds. • Electrons transfer from Pt to the carbon encapsulation layer to construct metal-carbon interfacial structures, which endows the catalyst with superior hydrogenation activity in sulfur-containing environments. • Carbon-encapsulated structure enhances the structural stability and sulfur resistance of the catalyst. • Experimental characterizations combined with DFT calculations elucidate the underlying reaction mechanism. The presence of sulfur-containing impurities in industrial feedstocks leads to the rapid deactivation of metal-based catalysts, which originates from the specific recognition between the d orbitals of metallic active sites and the p orbitals of sulfur. In this work, a carbon-encapsulation catalyst strategy was employed to shield this specific d–p orbital recognition effect. The Pt-base catalyst showed a sharp 92.28% loss in activity after sulfur poisoning, whereas the carbon-encapsulated catalyst maintained high efficiency and stability, sustaining a reaction rate of 83.41 min –1 even at high mercaptan concentrations (7945 ppm). Moreover, it exhibited excellent reusability with negligible deactivation after five cycles. Characterization and density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that the carbon shell serves as “armor” for Pt active sites, physically isolating them from sulfur impurities and suppressing the hybridization between Pt nanoparticles (Pt NPs) and the S 2p orbitals. Meanwhile, Pt nanoparticles induce electron transfer to the carbon layer, converting it into a conductive “metallic carbon” that enhances hydrogenation activity. This work provides new insights into the anti-sulfur poisoning mechanism of catalytic hydrogenation. Download: Download high-res image (255KB) Download: Download full-size image

Preparation of Co 3 O 4 -SnO 2 heterostructures via hydrothermal method. • Peculiar morphology with abundant active sites and wide surface area. • Enhanced gas response (R g /R a ) of 92.8 with excellent sensitivity. • Excellent response is attributed to rapid charge transfer across p-n heterojunction. The recent development of p-n heterojunction sensors has attracted significant interest in gas sensing applications due to their excellent charge transfer, more active sites, and lower operating temperatures. In this research, Co 3 O 4 -SnO 2 heterostructured composite has been developed and investigated as a highly selective sensor for nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ). The gas sensing results demonstrated a remarkable response of 92.8 to 100 ppm NO 2 at the optimal operating temperature of 200 °C. The sensor was tested over a wide temperature range (50–300 °C), demonstrating exceptional performance, remarkable repeatability, and consistent baseline recovery. The Co 3 O 4 -SnO 2 heterostructure has excellent long-term stability and consistently reliable detection across varying humidity conditions. The sensor's enhanced sensitivity to NO 2 was validated with selectivity tests for other interfering gases. An improved method revealing the NO 2 sensing approach is proposed, supported by density functional theory calculations to investigate the diffusion efficiency of investigated gases at Co 3 O 4 -SnO 2 heterostructures. The results indicated that Co 3 O 4 -SnO 2 heterostructures are an excellent option for practical NO 2 detection under different environmental conditions. Traditional cellulose films lack both effective UV-shielding and durable flame-retardant properties, limiting their use in transparent packaging and protective. In this study, a highly transparent, UV-shielding, and flame-retardant cellulose composite film was fabricated via a solvent-exchange route. Water-insoluble triphenyl phosphate (TPP) flame retardant was diffused through ethanol into regenerated cellulose (RC) gel prepared by NaOH/urea/H 2 O low temperature dissolving system, followed by post-treatment with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (KH550) ethanol solution to improve the compatibility between TPP and RC and drying. The obtained PNSi-RC films exhibit visible-light transmittance exceeding 85% and demonstrate improvement in UV shielding capability. Moreover, the PNSi 7 -RC film achieved a limiting oxygen index (LOI) of 29 and a UL-94 V-0 rating, exhibiting good flame-retardant property. The films remained largely consistent flame-retardant performance after water exposure for 24 h, and the LOI values were almost no changes. This simple strategy can be scalable to the preparation process of other films for green flame-retardant packaging and protective.

Thermoelectric (TE) materials enable direct thermal-electric energy conversion, but Bi 2 Te 3 -based alloys suffer from limited thermoelectric performance and controversial doping mechanisms of Cu, hindering their practical application in waste heat recovery. To address these issues, this work designs and synthesizes a series of zone-melted p-type Bi 0.5 Sb 1.5*(1− x ) Cu 1.5* x Te 3 +3 wt % Te ( x = 0.0–2.0%) samples. The results show that Cu occupies interstitial sites, suppresses Te volatilization to increase the hole concentration, and enhances the electrical conductivity. Concurrently, lattice distortions and secondary phases reduced lattice thermal conductivity. The 1.0% Cu-doped sample achieves a maximum power factor of 4.74 mW·m − 1 ·K − 2 at 300 K, a peak zT of 1.03 at 412 K, and an average zT of 0.91 (300–500 K), representing improvements of 7%, 8.4%, and 18% over the undoped matrix. Subsequent hot deformation further reduced lattice thermal conductivity but did not enhance zT due to an anomalous rise in carrier concentration and decreased mobility. This study clarifies the interstitial Cu doping mechanism, providing a viable strategy for optimizing Bi 2 Te 3 -based materials.

Anion exchange membranes (AEMs) are central to clean-energy electrochemical technologies, yet achieving high hydroxide conductivity together with dimensional and alkaline stability remains challenging. Here we implement a straightforward branching strategy in poly(arylene 3-piperidinium)s by incorporating two trifunctional units, i.e., triptycene and 1,3,5-triphenylbenzene, into the polymer backbone. This architecture suppresses water uptake and swelling without compromising the membrane's ion-transport efficiency and chemical durability. Compared to linear membranes, the branched membranes exhibit a 34−36% reduction in water absorption. Triptycene-based branched AEMs achieved superior performance, including suppressed swelling (<18% at 80 °C), high conductivity up to 191 mS cm −1 at 80 °C, and improved alkaline stability, remaining intact in 1 M NaOH for at least 2000 h. Importantly, a water electrolyzer based on B-PT3Pip-3%Trip demonstrated a current density of 6.9 A cm −2 at 2.0 V and 80 °C, and can operate stably under 1 A cm −2 at 60 °C for 1000 h with a voltage decay of only 81 μV h −1 . The synthetic simplicity of the branching strategy, together with the combination of suppressed swelling, high conductivity, and long-term durability, makes branched poly(arylene 3-piperidinium) AEMs highly promising for AEM water electrolysis applications.

Fibroblast-to-myofibroblast transition (FMT) and resistance to apoptosis are central drivers of fibrosis. Here, we report that sustained release of Calcium Sensing Receptor (CaSR) positive allosteric modulators (L-Phe, L-Trp, and cinacalcet) from electrospun p-dioxanone copolymer membranes exerts potent, ligand-specific anti-fibrotic effects. All formulations activated Gq-coupled CaSR, evoking ER-Ca 2 ⁺ release and IP₃ generation. Differential recruitment of Gi yielded distinct cAMP/ROS signatures: cinacalcet (strong Gi bias) lowered cAMP and ROS levels, and suppressed AP-1, collagen-I and α-SMA expression; L-Trp (intermediate Gi) left cAMP unchanged while elevating ROS and inflammatory markers but nonetheless inhibited proliferation; L-Phe (weak Gi) raised cAMP, reduced ROS and fibrotic markers. Molecular docking confirmed Gi-coupling potency: cinacalcet (-125.4 kJ mol⁻ 1 ) > L-Trp (-101.7 kJ mol⁻ 1 ) > L-Phe (-75.5 kJ mol⁻ 1 ). In a rat intestinal-adhesion model, cinacalcet and L-Phe membranes prevented adhesions and collagen deposition, whereas L-Trp only inhibited proliferation. Thus, these findings indicate that CaSR ligands tune fibroblast fate via Gi-biased receptor conformations and that ligand electrospun membranes constitute a versatile materials platform for precision antifibrotic therapy. Photothermal-assisted photocatalysis, which couples localized thermal energy with photogenerated charge carriers to overcome thermodynamic and kinetic limitations, has emerged as an effective strategy for solar-driven CO2 reduction. Herein, nanoflower-like NiO/ZnO p–n heterojunction spheres were rationally constructed via a simple hydrothermal calcination method to achieve efficient concentrated photothermal-assisted CO2 reduction. The unique nanoflower morphology provides abundant interfacial contact between NiO and ZnO, while the formation of the p–n heterojunction establishes an internal electric field that suppresses electron-hole recombination. Under concentrated irradiation (4.31 W·cm−2), the photothermal coupling effect reduces the apparent activation energy and enables the NiO/ZnO photocatalyst to deliver CO and CH4 production rates of 51.78 and 15.96 μmol·g−1·h−1, which are 7.92 and 9.61 times higher, respectively, than those obtained under nonconcentrated illumination. Photoelectrochemical measurements and in situ DRIFTS further reveal that the built-in electric field facilitates directional charge transfer from ZnO to NiO, thereby promoting CO2 adsorption and activation. We demonstrate an efficient photothermal-coupling strategy to construct high-performance catalysts for artificial photosynthesis and solar-to-fuel conversion.

Dural reconstruction, essential for protecting the central nervous system, remains challenging in cranial neurosurgery. This study discovers that the alignment of poly(p-dioxanone) (PPDO) electrospun fibers influences cellular behavior, thereby promoting dura mater regeneration without inducing excessive fibrosis. Electrospinning parameters were precisely optimized to fabricate PPDO fiber membranes exhibiting either isotropic or highly aligned morphologies. Quantitative analysis confirmed a clear relationship between electrospinning conditions and fiber alignment. The membranes displayed stable degradation characteristics suitable for biomedical applications. Notably, highly aligned PPDO membranes promoted spindle-shaped cellular morphology and enhanced secretion of three growth factors- alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), and transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1), facilitating favorable cellular responses for regeneration. These results display the significance of fiber orientation in designing advanced biomaterials for dura mater repair.

Wearable or patchable biosensors have attracted tremendous attention due to their continuous health-monitoring capabilities. In particular, self-powered passive biosensors based on a piezoelectric nanogenerator (PENG) have demonstrated measurements of physiological signals from which cardiovascular information can be analyzed such as heart rate and blood pressure. However, challenges still remain with regard to both material and device aspects. For the effective and accurate measurement of extremely weak physiological signals, various methods have been introduced, including employment of inorganic lead-based piezoelectric materials and design of a complex material or device structure. In spite of their effectiveness in enhancing the piezoelectric output response, the introduced methods brought concomitant issues, such as toxicity and complexity. We present unique methods to produce a transparent standalone piezoelectric polymer film which can be directly transferred to any surface such as the human skin. Through a room temperature solvent vapor annealing process, we further enhance the crystallinity and a portion of the ferroelectric β-phase of the transparent standalone polymer film, resulting in an improved piezoelectric output response. Based on these two new methods introduced, we demonstrate a simple sandwich-structured, transparent, and patchable biosensor based on PENG for radial artery detection with significantly reduced complex manufacturing processes, providing great practical value.

The construction of hierarchically porous carbon with a rational pore distribution using environmentally benign activators, while simultaneously incorporating heteroatom doping, is crucial for the preparation of electrode materials for supercapacitors. Here, a green one-step method has been developed that utilizes a biomass derivative, chitosan, as the matrix to construct a nitrogen-doped carbon framework, with polyethyleneimine (PEI) for synergistic nitrogen doping and hydrogen bonding interactions to optimize the carbon framework. Phytic acid (PA) is employed as a phosphorus source, activator, and crosslinker to build hierarchical porous carbon containing phosphorus doping, while carboxylated nanocellulose (CNC) is introduced to regulate the uniformity of the pore structure. The resulting HPC exhibits a specific surface area of 939.87 m²/g, a total pore volume of 0.45 cm³ /g, and a high specific capacitance of 350 F/g at a current density of 1 A/g. Furthermore, the HPC supercapacitor assembled at this current density demonstrates an energy density of 18.3 Wh/kg at a power density of 450 W/kg, with a capacitance retention rate of 86 % and a coulombic efficiency of 97 % after 10,000 cycles. Therefore, the approach in this study, which involves the use of PA to activate carbon precursors while incorporating heteroatom doping and adding CNC to promote uniform heteroatom doping, provides valuable insights for the facile, efficient, and green synthesis of biomass-based porous carbon materials, and contributes to energy storage applications.

Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite single crystals (PSCs) have been emerged as remarkable materials for some optoelectronic applications such as solid-state photodetectors, solar cells and light emitting diodes due to their excellent optoelectronic properties. To decrease the dark current, function layers based on spin-coating method are frequently requested for intrinsic PSCs to block the injected current by forming energy barrier. However, the amorphous function layers suffer from small carrier mobility and high traps density, which limit the speed of the photoelectric response of perovskite devices. This work supposes to grow thick MAPbBr3 and MAPbI3 mono-crystalline thin films on the surface of intrinsic MAPbBr2.5Cl0.5 PSCs substrate by a heteroepitaxial growth technique to act as electron-blocking layers. Meanwhile, C60 and [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) layers are deposited on the opposite surface of substrate PSCs by spin-coating method to block injected holes. This Au-MAPbI3-MAPbBr3-MAPbBr2.5Cl0.5PSCs-C60-PCBM-Ag heterostructure can be used as excellent X-ray photodetector (XPD) due to its low dark current density of 6.97 × 10−11 A cm−2 at −0.5 V bias, high responsivity of 870 mA/W at −100 V bias and X-ray sensitivity as high as 59.7 μC mGy−1 cm−2 at −50 V bias.
