Developing robust, multifunctional electrocatalysts is critical for advancing unitized regenerative fuel cells (URFCs) that couple water electrolysis and fuel-cell operation within a single device. We report a nanostructured palladium–manganese dioxide/carbon nanotube (Pd/MnO₂–CNTs) composite in which hollow MnO₂ nanoflowers are uniformly anchored to CNTs, forming a conductive, high–surface area framework that promotes homogeneous Pd dispersion. Comprehensive structural and surface analyses (SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS, and Raman) indicate strong interfacial interactions among Pd, MnO₂, and CNTs, generating abundant defect sites and mixed-oxide bonding that correlate with enhanced catalytic activity and stability. The composite exhibits multifunctional electrocatalysis toward the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), oxygen evolution reaction (OER), and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). When integrated into membrane–electrode assemblies, an optimized Pd/MnO₂–CNTs: IrO₂ (1: 9) electrode delivers a roundtrip efficiency of 51.4 ± 0.7 % at 50 mA cm −2 under ambient conditions, together with durable cycling performance. Beyond materials design, we propose a practical protocol for evaluating URFCs under realistic operating constraints, linking electrode composition, interfacial structure, and device-level metrics. This study establishes a scalable route to multifunctional Pd/MnO₂–CNTs catalysts and provides an experimentally grounded framework for benchmarking URFC performance.

Graphical The core-shell catalyst with surface wrinkles greatly improves the selectivity of tandem catalysis. Process intensification, targeting the maximization of spatial-temporal productivity utilizing minimum energy and resources has always been the constant trends especially in chemical industry. In this regard, tandem reactions that are able to perform a multi-step reaction in a single pot by eliminating costly separation steps have been viewed as a typical paradigm. However, a spatial isolation of varied active sites with a controlled manner in a single catalyst to avoid deactivation and work synergistically is a challenging problem yet sometimes being overlooked. In this work, a spatial base-metal core-shell structured catalyst with wrinkled surface was successfully fabricated by a direct homoepitaxial growth method in an acid/water system, which exhibited increased hydrophobicity, exposure of active sites and significantly improved product selectivity towards one-pot Knoevenagel condensation-hydrogenation tandem reaction compared with the uncoated catalyst. Meanwhile, the catalytic performance was largely retained and the structural stability was maintained even after successive 8 cycles, which shows great promise for industrial applications.

Rational and smart design of hydrogen (H 2 ) sensors especially those featured with flexibility and light weight is highly desirable, to meet the requirements for future development of portable H 2 sensors. In this work, we demonstrate a novel paper film H 2 sensor employing Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene nanosheets with Pd colloidal nanoclusters (Pd CNC) as the activator. The MXene@ Pd CNC paper film was facilely prepared via an all-colloidal solution-based vacuum-filtration process, which is flexible, light-weight and endowed with a compact, glossy surface. The as-obtained MXene@ Pd CNC film sensor displayed moderate H 2 response at room temperature at either flat or bent states. Specially, the MXene@Pd CNC film sensor delivered a response time of (32 ± 7) s and a sensitivity of S = (23.0 ± 4.0)%@4% H 2 . In addition, the MXene@Pd CNC sensor enabled “in-situ-mode” H 2 detection directly along a piece of paper film with desired size. The strong H 2 adsorption into lattice of ultrafine Pd CNC altered the work function thus induced the electron doping of MXene, which explained the gas sensing mechanism. Therefore, the facilely designed MXene@Pd CNC sensor is believed to contribute to development of future portable and wearable sensing electronics.

Nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) has shown considerable promise in the treatment of chlorinated organic compounds, but rapid aggregation and inactivation hinder its application. In this study, palladium-doped zero-valent iron nanoparticles involving poly (γ-glutamic acid) (Fe-Pd@PGA NPs) were synthesized. The nanoparticles were small (~100 nm), uniformly distributed, and highly stable. The dechlorination performance of Fe-Pd@PGA NPs was evaluated using p -CP as a model. The results demonstrated that Fe-Pd@PGA NPs show high activity even in weakly alkaline conditions. The maximum rate constant reached 0.331 min − 1 at pH 9.0 with a Fe to p -CP ratio of 100. Additionally, the dechlorination activity of Fe-Pd@PGA NPs is more than ten times higher than that of the bare Fe-Pd NPs, demonstrating the crucial role of PGA in this system. Furthermore, we investigated the dechlorination performance in the presence of different anions. The results indicated that Fe-Pd@PGA NPs can maintain high activity in the presence of Cl − , H 2 PO 4 − , and humic acid, while HPO 4 2− and HCO 3 − ions slightly reduce the dechlorination activity. We believed that PGA is a promising stabilizer and promoter for Fe-Pd NPs and the Fe-Pd@PGA NPs have the potential for practical applications.

Catalytic combustion of CH 4 to CO 2 and H 2 O was studied over zeolite-supported Pd catalysts, and it was found that zeolite-supported Pd catalysts can present pronounced discrepancy in the catalytic performance of methane oxidation when Na-ZSM-5 was ion-exchanged with various cations of La, Ni, and Mg. Very interestingly, the Pd catalyst supported by NaLa-ZSM-5 exhibited the best result. Over an optimized catalyst, a complete conversion of methane can be achieved at around 320 °C, which is about 60 °C lower than the temperature needed for Pd/Na-ZSM-5. Physicochemical characterizations such as XRD, SEM, HRTEM, XPS, and ICP-OES techniques were used to investigate the factors influencing the catalytic activity and find out the reasons behind the discrepancy in the catalytic performance of methane combustion over these zeolite-supported Pd catalysts. Based on the characterization results, it is proposed that the Pd dispersion and its chemical states are major factors that govern catalytic performance of methane combustion over these catalysts. To the best of our knowledge, the optimal catalyst in this study stands out compared with other reported similar Pd catalysts for the catalytic combustion of methane in terms of activity.

The dense stromal barrier of pancreatic cancer (PC) severely limits chemotherapeutic efficacy. Although combination therapy is a standard clinical approach, it often exacerbates systemic toxicity. To address the dual challenges of localized drug delivery and immune activation, we developed an injectable, multifunctional hydrogel system for the synergistic codelivery of an anti-PD-1 antibody and chemotherapeutic agents (gemcitabine/albumin-bound paclitaxel). This system is based on a novel, fully natural-source composite material─methacrylated silk fibroin (SilMA) and methacrylated chitosan (CSMA). Its core innovations include: in situ gelation via a mild LAP-photoinitiation process preserves antibody bioactivity and bioactive degradation products derived from the natural polymers, which may help establish a favorable peritumoral microenvironment. In an orthotopic PC mouse model, a single peritumoral injection of this hydrogel (HLGP group) significantly enhanced tumor infiltration of CD8+ T cells, suppressed tumor growth, and outperformed all control groups, including the free-drug combination group. This study presents a unique, integrated local delivery strategy capable of simultaneously overcoming the stromal barrier, reducing systemic exposure and enhancing immunotherapy efficacy, thereby offering a promising translational pathway for the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

In this paper, copper-doped N-containing carbon materials (CuCN) were obtained by pyrolyzing copper acetylacetonate using a metal–organic skeleton (ZIF-8) at 900 °C. Pd/CuCN nanomaterials were synthesized using a photochemical method assisted by the ethylene glycol reduction strategy. The precise preparation of Pd/CuCN nanomaterials was realized by regulating different wavelengths of the light source and different precursor concentrations in the photochemical process to control the particle size, morphology, and crystal structure effectively. The results showed that the catalyst 10Pd/CuCN-3 prepared under green light at a wavelength of 550 nm and a precursor concentration of 10 mM had high catalytic activity. Its degradation rate constant for 4-NP was 1.77 min−1 and the conversion rate was maintained at about 90% after five cycles of reaction, which showed good durability and conversion rate. This study demonstrates that visible light can effectively control and prepare palladium nanoparticles of smaller size.

Cyclohexanone is significant chemical reagent for organic synthesis, so it is key to design and prepare a highly active and environmentally friendly catalyst for the conversion of phenol to cyclohexanone . The results in this work show that the Pd-based supported nanocatalysts (Pd/SiO 2 ) with various Pd contents (Pd/SiO 2 –1 with 0.16 wt% Pd, Pd/SiO 2 –2 with 0.26 wt% Pd, Pd/SiO 2 –3 with 0.52 wt% Pd, Pd/SiO 2 –4 with 2.60 wt% Pd) have high conversion and selectivity in phenol selective hydrogenation to cyclohexanone under relatively moderate reaction parameters, Pd/SiO 2 –2 with the highest conversion of 80.6%, selectivity of 92.1% and turnover frequency (TOF) of 1106.1 h −1 . This excellent activity is attributed to the highly dispersed Pd nanoparticles (NPs) on silica with high surface area. The Pd/SiO 2 catalysts are with high Pd dispersion and strong interaction of Pd-SiO 2 , which have been proved by XRD, XPS, BET, TEM, HRTEM, STEM, STEM-EDS elemental analysis techniques. The as-prepared materials have good catalytic behaviors in the selective hydrogenation of phenol and good stability, facilitating phenol hydrogenation to cyclohexanone and preventing the excessive hydrogenation of cyclohexanone to cyclohexanol.

Recently, bimetallic Fe-Pd nanoparticles were integrated with metal organic frameworks (MOFs) to produce a new composite catalyst with significant potential for organic contaminant removal due to enhanced adsorption and reduction. Here, 85.9 % of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) was successfully removed from aqueous solution within 120 min when using a zinc-based zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8) embedded with Fe-Pd (Fe-Pd@ZIF-8). In comparison only 77.4 and 48.3 % was removed when using ZIF-8 or Fe-Pd alone. Thus, to better understand the function of composite components (ZIF-8 and Fe-Pd) in the removal of 2,4-DCP, and the specific removal mechanism involved, Fe-Pd@ZIF-8 was characterized before and after exposure to 2,4-DCP. This comparison revealed that 2,4-DCP was adsorbed onto the surface of the composite during exposure. Moreover, while ZIF-8 maintained stability following the removal of 2,4-DCP, Fe 0 was partially oxidized and Pd functioned as a catalyst in the removal process. Furthermore, kinetic studies demonstrated that the initial adsorption of 2,4-DCP conformed to a pseudo-second-order model and the subsequent reduction conformed to a pseudo-first-order model, whereas isothermal adsorption best fit the Freundlich adsorption model. This observation suggested that removal mechanism of 2,4-DCP involved both adsorption and dechlorination. Finally, Fe-Pd@ZIF-8 was applied to practically remove 2,4-DCP from wastewater, showing a 74.4 % removal efficiency which indicated that the composite was a potential new nanomaterial for practically removing organic contaminants from wastewater.

Manganese-based mullite-type and perovskite-type mixed oxides were prepared by sol–gel method, and then palladium was loaded onto the mixed oxides by wet impregnation method. The catalytic performance for methane combustion, the influence of the supports, and the interaction between noble metal and the mixed oxides were investigated via experiments and theoretical calculations. The Pd/SmMn 2 O 5 catalyst exhibited superior low-temperature catalytic activity for methane combustion ( T 50 = 328 °C), which was superior to the Pd/perovskites catalysts and even better than Pd/Al 2 O 3 catalyst. It was ascribed to the abundant labile surface lattice oxygen species with high mobility and the uniformly dispersed Pd species on SmMn 2 O 5 , as revealed by TEM, CO-chemisorption, H 2 -TPR and XPS. DFT calculations verified the significant metal-support interaction via electron transfer between Pd and SmMn 2 O 5 , which further activated the lattice oxygen and improved the catalytic performance. It demonstrates the prospect of utilizing SmMn 2 O 5 mullite to optimize the typical noble metal catalysts. Graphical Abstract

Ammonia borane (AB) represents a promising hydrogen storage material, while high-performing catalysts allowing efficient release of hydrogen from the hydrolysis of AB are desired. Here, Pd nanoclusters (NCs) are successfully immobilized within pores of a bipyridyl covalent triazine framework (CTF-BPDA-TPDH) via a metal-nitrogen coordination reduction strategy. The porous structure and tailored N sites of CTF facilitate the anchoring of Pd ions and the in situ formation of monodisperse Pd NCs confined in the pores of CTF. The resulting Pd-NCs@CTF composites exhibit high activity toward the hydrolysis of AB with turnover frequencies (TOFs) of 273 and 434 mol H2 ·mol −1 Pd ·min −1 in neutral and alkaline solutions, respectively. The Pd-NCs@CTF catalyst is also demonstrated for the tandem dehydrogenation of AB and hydrogenation of nitroarenes featuring short reaction time and high yields. These findings emphasize the promise of the porous CTFs encapsulated metal NCs for active catalysts.

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) plays an indispensable role in the biological, medical, and chemical fields. The development of an effective H2O2detecting method is of great importance. In the present work, a series of PtxPdybimetallic aerogels and Pt, Pd monometallic aerogels were controllably synthesized by one-step gelation method. Their morphologies and compositions were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and so forth. These aerogels were used as nonenzyme electrocatalysts for the detection of H2O2. The cyclic voltammetric and amperometric results demonstrated that the performance of the metal aerogels showed volcano-type behavior, with the Pt50Pd50aerogel sitting on top. The Pt50Pd50aerogel-based electrochemical sensor exhibited excellent comprehensive performance, with a low overpotential of −0.023 V vs. Ag/AgCl, a broad linear range from 5.1 to 3190 μM (R2= 0.9980), and a high sensitivity of 0.19 mA mM−1cm−2, in combination with good anti-interference ability and stability. A comprehensive study indicated that the superior sensing performance of the Pt50Pd50aerogel is closely related to its optimized d-band center and larger cumulative pore volume. This work first applied Pt–Pd bimetallic aerogels into the detection of H2O2and shows the promising application of noble metal aerogels in the electrochemical sensing area. Keywords:electrochemical sensors;hydrogen peroxide;electrocatalysis;alloying effect
