With the goal of “dual carbon”, China’s clean energy industry has witnessed a rapid development period. As a key component of AC–DC conversion of clean energy, the usage of film capacitors is widespread in many fields such as photovoltaic power generation, wind power generation, and new energy vehicles. Therefore, how to develop film capacitors with high power density is the key to realizing energy savings and low-carbon environmental protection. In this paper, a P-X-P sandwich-structured composite dielectric with polycarbonate (PC) as the outer insulation layer and x wt % TiO2–PC/polyvinylidene fluoride as the middle polarization layer was designed and prepared by solution calendering and a hot pressing process, and its dielectric properties and insulation performance were optimized synergistically. It was found that when the TiO2 content of the intermediate layer was increased to 3 wt %, the P-3-P sandwich-structured film obtained outstanding energy storage capacity (Ue ∼ 11.69 J/cm3, η ∼ 93.86%) at a high field strength of 510 kV/mm. At the same time, the P-3-P sandwich-structured film has good charge–discharge characteristics (1.74 μs, 1.01 MW/cm3). It has a rapid pace of energy release and outstanding cycle stability after 50,000 charge–discharge cycles. The P-3-P sandwich-structured film provides excellent possibilities for the construction of high storage capacity film capacitors and could be used to its full potential in the field of film capacitors with high storage of energy.

Graphene nanosheets are widely employed for fabricating high-dielectric-constant polymer nanocomposites for energy storage. However, severely reduced electric breakdown strengths of composites with increasing graphene content limit their high-field applications. To improve breakdown strengths of polyvinylidene fluoride/graphene composites without sacrificing dielectric constants, in this work, we proposed a rational strategy of constructing MXene quantum dot inter-layers for preparing ternary composites with desirable electric properties, owing to inter-layer induced quantum confinement and Coulomb blockade effects. Graphene oxide@nitrogen-doped Ti 3 C 2 MXene quantum-dot hybrid nanoparticles were synthesized via hydrogen-bond induced self-assembly route. Binary polymer/graphene and ternary polymer/hybrid-particle nanocomposite films were fabricated by solution cast process. Compared with binary composites, ternary counterparts have synergistically improved dielectric constants and breakdown strengths. Repeated disorder-bounce of electrons and strong coupling between electrons and holes, inside each quantum dot, might be responsible for superior electric performances of ternary composites. High dielectric constant (~53@1 kHz) and breakdown strength (~205 MV m −1 ) were realized in ternary composite with 0.12 wt % of nanoparticles . This work might pave a road for large-scale fabrication of high-performance nanocomposite dielectrics for energy storage.

This study proposed a temperature adaptive regulation window that can be fabricated on a large scale for building energy savings. We first synthesized the modified PNIPAM hydrogel, and then the temperature adaptive regulation window was fabricated by incorporating the modified PNIPAM hydrogel with a PVDF membrane (TAR PP window) in a square acrylic glass mold. Then, the micromorphology, thermal response characteristics, and infrared spectroscopy of the modified PNIPAM hydrogel as well as the optical properties of the TAR PP window were characterized. Finally, the experiments were conducted to determine the thermal response characteristics of the TAR PP window, and preliminary calculations were also performed to derive the energy-saving potential and heat gain of the TAR PP window. By incorporating PVDF with the modified PNIPAM hydrogel, the TAR PP window not only achieves 80 % visible light modulation and 73 % solar modulation but also exhibits an emissivity of > 90 % within the atmospheric transparency window. In addition, the preliminary evaluation indicates that the energy consumption of the experimental chamber with the TAR PP window can be decreased by 31.6 % compared with that with the conventional double-glazed (CDG) window.

In this work, PVDF-HFP-based piezoelectric composite films incorporating MgO and rGO nanofillers were fabricated via a facile phase-separation method. The influences of filler composition and loading amount on their piezocatalytic and antibacterial performances were systematically investigated. MgO@rGO/PVDF-HFP film (4 wt % of MgO and 4 wt % of rGO) exhibited the best piezocatalytic activity, achieving rapid degradation on RhB, MO, and MB dyes with high efficiencies of 95.88%, 91.42%, and 98.15%, respectively. The dyes were not only decolorized but also further mineralized into inorganic carbon. The composite film also demonstrated excellent antibacterial performance, reaching 100% inhibition against E. coli and S. aureus upon ultrasonication. The superior catalytic behavior is attributed to the formation of the MgO@rGO heterojunction, which optimizes the energy band for the redox reaction, thereby promoting the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Under ultrasonic excitation, the MgO@rGO/PVDF-HFP film produced substantially higher ·O2–, ·OH, and H2O2 levels than the other films, and ROS-trapping experiments confirmed ·OH and electrons as the primary active species. These enhancements arise from efficient charge transfer across the MgO@rGO interface and chemically induced polarization within the PVDF-HFP matrix, which together strengthen the piezoelectric response. This study demonstrates that constructing heterojunction nanofillers in flexible polymers is an effective strategy to enhance piezocatalysis for environmental purification and antimicrobial applications.

Separation membranes for purification of fermentation broths represent a significant research challenge. In order to enhance separation efficiency, a simple and rapid one-step method with self-assembly strategy for hydrophilic modified membranes was proposed. In order to shorten membrane fabrication time, ellagic acid (EA) oxidized by sodium periodate (SP) and then reacted with p-phenylenediamine (PPDA) via Michael addition and Schiff base reactions at 25 °C. A highly crosslinked hydrophilic network formed firmly adheres to PVDF substrate. According to molecular dynamic simulation, the adsorption energy for the proposed PVDF@EA-PPDA membrane with water reached −830 kcal/mol, which was 4.1 times that of pristine PVDF membrane. The modified membrane exhibited the high permeability of 11265 L m −2 h −1 ·bar −1 for water and 3450 L m −2 h −1 ·bar −1 for soy protein fermentation broth. The solids and oil rejection arrived at 99.3% and 99.9%, respectively. The developed membranes showed significant antifouling characteristics with the flux recovery rate exceeding 95%, which had promising potential for protein purification in biomedical field.

Traditional polymer-based dielectric energy storage materials are typically limited by the compromise between low dielectric permittivity and inadequate breakdown strength. This trade-off represents a major bottleneck that severely restricts the enhancement of energy storage performance. In this work, we introduced a ternary composite design that synergistically integrates two-dimensional MXene nanosheets and insulating Al 2 O 3 nanoparticles into a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) matrix. In this structure, the MXene component induces strong interfacial polarization, significantly enhancing the effective dielectric constant, while the Al 2 O 3 filler acts as a nanoscale barrier, inhibiting charge injection and leakage conduction, thereby maintaining high breakdown strength. With a low filler loading of 0.2 wt%, the film demonstrated a dielectric permittivity of 18.15 and a dielectric loss of 0.028. Moreover, the breakdown strength attained 124% of that measured for pure PVDF, and the maximum discharge energy density increased to 4.76 J/cm 3 . In this study, PVDF/SMA membranes were fabricated via non-solvent induced phase separation(NIPS), followed by grafting of polyethyleneimine (PEI) onto the membrane surface through reaction with the anhydride groups of SMA, yielding PVDF/SMA-PEI membranes. Owing to the considerable free volume of PEI chains, stacking tends to occur during cross-linking with SMA, resulting in a loose selective layer and poor retention of small- to medium-sized dye molecules. To address this, the small-molecule additive sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) was introduced into the PEI solution. The electrostatic interaction between the sulfate ions of SDS and PEI promotes a more uniform distribution of PEI on the membrane surface, reducing inter-chain aggregation and forming a denser selective layer. The resulting PEI-SDS membrane maintained a high pure-water flux of 220 L/m 2 ·h while achieving methyl blue, indigo carmine, and acid fuchsin rejection rates of 98.86%, 99.57%, and 86.77%, respectively. In conclusion, this work provides a simple method for preparing highly efficient positively charged membranes for dye removal.

The efficient and low-cost treatment of oily wastewaters has become a concerned issue for mitigating the environmental pollution and reducing resource wastage. In this study, a novel Janus membrane was fabricated by electrospinning a thin hydrophobic layer of fluorinated graphene oxide (FGO) nanosheet-incorporated poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) nanofibers on the surface of a polyacrylonitrile (PAN) hydrophilic layer. The hydrophobic layer was controlled to be 15 times thinner than that of the hydrophilic layer by regulating the electrospinning time. The incorporation of FGO nanosheets into PVDF-HFP nanofibers induced the formation of numerous microspheres and finer nanofibers on the hydrophobic layer, thereby endowing the membrane with a high surface roughness with a “beads-on-strings” morphology. The PVDF-HFP/FGO hydrophobic layer exhibited a water contact angle of 136.8°, which contributed to a high oil flux of ~17500 L/m2.h and separation efficiency of 95.3% for the heavy oil/water mixture. In contrast, the membrane achieved a water flux of ~5800 L/m2.h and separation efficiency of 99.1% for the light oil/water mixture. The membrane could maintain stable performance over seven consecutive separation cycles and within the temperature range of 20–120°C. The prepared membrane could be considered as a promising alternative for the practical treatment of oily wastewaters.

Conventional high-voltage poling hinders the scalable production of piezoelectric hollow-fiber membranes (Pi-HFMs) due to its incompatibility with continuous wet-spinning. Here, a shear-flow-templating strategy is reported that enables one-step self-poling of PVDF hollow fiber membranes via alignment of platelet-like BaTiO 3 fillers during dry-jet wet-spinning. The aligned fillers not only elevate the electroactive β-phase content to 92.45%, but also template macroscopic dipole orientation, yielding an open-circuit voltage of 16 V without any external poling—comparable to conventionally poled membranes. The self-poled membranes exhibit superior antifouling performance against charged organics, organic-inorganic composites, and multi-component mixtures. Using particles with contrasting dielectric constants (SiO 2 , ε ~ 3.9 vs. BaTiO 3 , ε ~ 1000), the antifouling mechanism maybe originates from the negative dielectrophoretic (nDEP) effect. This work provides a scalable fabrication route for self-poled piezoelectric hollow fiber membranes and demonstrates a physical antifouling mechanism based on intrinsic dielectric properties, offering a robust and energy-efficient approach for membrane fouling control in water treatment.

As promising next-generation energy storage candidates with high safety and energy density, solid-state lithium metal batteries are constrained by the twin critical issues of low ionic conductivity and poor interfacial contact. Herein, a composite polymer electrolyte (PPM) is fabricated via polymer molecular chain modulation coupled with zinc complex modification, where a mixed polymer chain (M-PVDF) is derived from two molecular-weight-distinct PVDF grades (Kynar 761/Solvay 5130, 1:1 mass ratio), and an oxygen-rich amorphous zinc complex (MO) acts as a multifunctional filler. Specifically, the M-PVDF matrix constructs a continuous electrolyte surface that enables unobstructed ion transport and reinforces electrolyte-electrode interfacial contact, thereby enhancing long-term cycling stability. Meanwhile, the MO filler exerts synergistic effects through three key functions: its abundant carbonyl groups accelerate Li-salt dissociation to boost ionic conductivity; its NMP ligands act as “solvent immobilizers” to create extra ion migration sites; and its metal active centers modulate charge distribution for uniform Li deposition and dendrite suppression. Benefiting from this rational structural design, the PPM electrolyte delivers exceptional electrochemical properties, including a 5.2 V voltage window, an ionic conductivity of 4.29 × 10–4 S cm–1 and a high lithium-ion transference number of 0.65. Assembled into an LFP battery, it retains 93% of the initial capacity after 360 cycles at 0.2 C, demonstrating superior cycling stability. Moreover, the pouch cell exhibits excellent bending resistance and damage tolerance, highlighting great potential for flexible and wearable battery applications.

Developing functional separators capable of simultaneously suppressing lithium dendrite growth and enabling compatibility with high-voltage cathodes is critical for realizing long-cycle-life lithium metal batteries. Herein, a synergistic bulk–interface regulation strategy is achieved via a coatable Y3+/Zn2+ codoped LATP/PVDF-HFP composite coating applied onto a commercial polypropylene (PP) separator. Y3+/Zn2+ codoped Li1.3Al0.275Y0.025Ti1.7(PO4)3 (LAYTP-Zn) is synthesized via a solid-state route and uniformly integrated with PVDF-HFP to form a conformal coating with strong interfacial adhesion. Y3+/Zn2+ incorporation induces lattice expansion of LATP, thereby broadening bulk Li+ transport pathways. In addition, Zn2+ regulates interfacial chemistry by enhancing electrolyte dissociation and anchoring anions through Lewis acid interactions, while also promoting the formation of polar β-phase PVDF-HFP, collectively increasing the Li+ transference number to 0.79. In addition, the polymer matrix serves as a physical barrier that mitigates direct interfacial side reactions. The coordinated regulation of bulk ion conduction and interfacial ion distribution enables a more uniform Li+ flux and facilitates the formation of a LiF-enriched and mechanically robust interphase, thereby suppressing dendrite nucleation and growth. As a result, Li||Li symmetric cells exhibit stable cycling for over 3000 h at 1 mA·cm–2 and 1 mAh·cm–2. Furthermore, Li||LFP and Li||NCM811 half-cells deliver capacity retentions of 91.2% after 800 cycles at 1 C and 95.1% after 200 cycles at 0.5 C, respectively, while maintaining stable operation up to 4.73 V. This work provides a scalable separator design that integrates bulk transport optimization with interfacial regulation, offering a practical pathway toward high-performance lithium metal batteries.

The improvement in energy storage performance of graphene/polymer composites has long been restricted by insufficient breakdown strength (Eb) and high dielectric loss, both of which result from conductive losses caused by the aggregation of graphene nanosheets. In this paper, aminopropylisobutyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS-NH2) encapsulated graphene oxide (GO) (GO-g-POSS) hybrids were prepared to inhibit the restacking of graphene and block the formation of conductive paths. Furthermore, the design of sandwich-structured films is also an efficient approach to improving the breakdown performance of composite materials. Novel sandwich-structured composite films containing outer layers of BNNS/PVDF films and a middle rGO-g-POSS/PVDF layer were successfully prepared by the layer-by-layer assembly process. The B-0.50-B sandwich-structured composites achieved an optimal discharge energy storage density (Ue) of 9.08 J cm−3 and Eb of 432 MV m−1.
