The greenhouse effect caused by direct emissions of lean methane from coal mining is 25 times greater than that of CO 2 . To reduce the methane content in the atmosphere, it is imperative to develop high-activity, stable, and low cost methane-catalyzed combustion catalysts. In this work, a series of Mn-doped Co 3 O 4 hollow nanocages with dodecahedral shape were prepared using the metal-organic framework (MOF) material ZIF-67 as a template, combined with an in-situ growth method and a high-temperature calcination process. The optimized hollow structure Mn 0.6 /Co 3 O 4 -H (T 90 = 302 °C) exhibited higher catalytic activity than the solid structure Mn 0.6 /Co 3 O 4 -S (T 90 = 387 °C). On the one hand, Mn 0.6 /Co 3 O 4 -H has abundant O ads /O latt (0.61) and high Co 3+ /Co 2+ (1.11) content, which increases the adsorption of reactive molecules. In addition, the adsorption of methane by the Mn 0.6 /Co 3 O 4 -H catalyst reached 0.77 cm 3 /g at 273 K, increasing the methane concentration inside the catalyst. Concurrently, the hollow structure also establishes fast mass and heat transfer channels, leading to a significant improvement in the catalytic performance. The new catalyst developed in this study provides a new perspective and insight for reducing methane emissions during coal mining and reducing its negative impact on the environment.

The expanding application of corn stalk/polypropylene composites (CPCs) is accompanied by increasingly stringent performance requirements. Consequently, endowing flame retardancy, smoke suppression, and multifunctionality to CPCs while maintaining their mechanical properties is significant. Herein, a biobased flame retardant, arginine/ZIF-67 dual-modified ammonium polyphosphate (APP-Arg-MOF; MOF, metal–organic framework), for CPCs was engineered. APP was first functionalized with Arg via ion exchange to enhance its compatibility and flame retardancy. Subsequently, ZIF-67 was uniformly grown on APP-Arg through coordination-driven assembly using cobalt ions and 2-methylimidazole. The experimental results explained the exceptional multifunctional enhancement. The CPC/APP-Arg-MOF composite achieved a limiting oxygen index of 29.2% and passed the UL-94 V-0 rating. Cone calorimetry revealed significant reductions in the peak heat release rate (63.1%), total heat release (21.9%), and total smoke production (34.7%). Remarkably, the bending and tensile strengths increased by 10.0% and 26.9%, respectively, relative to CPC/APP, attributed to improved interfacial compatibility via Arg and ZIF-67 nanostructures. Furthermore, the CPC/APP-Arg-MOF composite exhibited potent antimicrobial activity, with inhibition rates of 97% against E. coli and 99% against S. aureus, leveraging synergistic effects of Arg and Co2+ release from ZIF-67. Meanwhile, the composite also maintained flame-retardant and antibacterial properties after 200 h of UV aging. Therefore, this work presents a sustainable APP surface modification strategy by utilizing Arg and ZIF-67 to simultaneously enhance fire safety, smoke suppression, and mechanical, antimicrobial, and anti-UV aging performances of CPC, offering significant potential for CPC applications.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) with strong oxidability have been considered as effective agents for antitumor therapy through oxidative damage to lipids, proteins, DNA and RNA. In this work, a multifunctional hollow cobaltosic sulfide (Co 3 S 4 )/photosensitizer indocyanine green (ICG) nanocomplex (Co 3 S 4 -ICG) has been synthesized by efficiently loading ICG into the hollow Co 3 S 4 to realize synergistic antitumor therapy via chemodynamic therapy (CDT), photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT) under near-infrared (808 nm) laser irradiation. Co 3 S 4 nanoparticles would be degraded in tumor acidic microenvironment into Co 2+ , which locally triggers a Fenton-like reaction to produce cytotoxic hydroxyl radicals ( OH) for CDT. Co 3 S 4 -ICG could also produce singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) through a multi-step photochemical process for PDT under 808 nm laser irradiation. The slow release of ICG in the tumor region was achieved due to hollow-structured Co 3 S 4 working as nanocarriers, and which has been proved an effective approach for combined CDT/PDT. In addition, Co 3 S 4 -ICG showed high photothermal conversion efficiency (40.5%) for PTT, and excellent OH generation capability via photothermal-improved Fenton reaction, leading to the synergistically improved antitumor efficacy. In vitro and in vivo experimental results confirm that the combined PTT/PDT/photothermal-enhanced CDT therapy can effectively ablate tumors with a negligible systemic toxicity. This work provides a valuable strategy for designing and constructing of a multifunctional nanoplatform for synergistic antitumor therapy of solid tumors.

The safe interception and permanent stabilization of radioactive iodine released during nuclear fuel processing are critical for ecological security and public health. However, traditional adsorbents for capturing and storing iodine vapor are still plagued with unsatisfactory uptake capacity, poor structural robustness. Herein, a unique core-satellite ZIF-67-on-MIL-167 (MOF-on-MOF) composite is fabricated through a controllable heterogeneous nucleation and growth route, which was designed for the efficient capture of radioactive iodine. Experimental data shown that delivers a maximum iodine vapor uptake of 5.600 g/g under dry atmosphere, representing a 2.03-fold and 1.42-fold increase compared to pure ZIF-67 and MIL-167, respectively. It is important to note that the iodine adsorption capacity of ZIF-67-on-MIL-167 is rarely influenced by the humid environment in a relative humidity of 18%. Furthermore, ZIF-67-on-MIL-167 exhibited excellent chemical and thermal stability, maintaining a stable framework structure at temperatures as high as 283 °C, and the iodine-loaded ZIF-67-on-MIL-167 exhibited an exceptionally high radioiodine outstanding iodine retention efficiency of 94.25% after being exposed to ambient conditions for 7 days. The composite material exhibited a high degree of synergy between its N-rich imidazole structure, abundant Ti−oxo clusters, and uncoordinated carboxylic (C O) functional groups. This synergy resulted in the provision of numerous active sites and the facilitation of charge transfer, thereby enabling the efficient capture of radioactive iodine. The adsorbent developed in this work is both reliable and effective, showing promise for practical application in radioactive iodine capture.

Many alloy catalysts have been developed for methanol electro-oxidation, but most synthetic methods are complicated. Herein, PtCo alloy catalysts supported on N-doped carbon sheets (PtCo/NCS) are successfully prepared by a simple pyrolysis of graphene oxide/ZIF-67/H 2 PtCl 6 composites at different temperatures (700, 800, 900 °C) under a gas flow of H 2 /Ar, in which ZIF-67 is served as Co and N sources. SEM, TEM , XRD , XPS and electrochemical characterization are employed to study as-prepared catalysts. In acidic methanol solution, the area-specific activity (1.25 mA cm −2 Pt) of PtCo alloy catalyst obtained at 800 °C (PtCo/NCS-800) is 2.6 times of commercial Pt/C (0.48 mA cm −2 Pt), and the area-specific activity of PtCo/NCS-800 is 3.5 times of Pt/C after 1000 cycles. Furthermore, an improved CO-tolerance of Pt is confirmed. The electronic effect and synergistic effect of metallic elements are responsible for outstanding performance of as-prepared catalysts. This work provides a simple approach to obtain high performance alloy catalysts.

In this study, a novel metal-organic framework (M-ZIF-8@ZIF-67) was successfully prepared using the single layer Fe 3 O 4 -ZIF-8 as magnetic core and wrapped a layer of ZIF-67 outer. This M-ZIF-8@ZIF-67 was employed as an adsorbent for the adsorption and removal of fipronil and its metabolites from environmental water and cucumber samples. The characterization results suggested that M-ZIF-8@ZIF-67 has the double layer structure a polyhedral structure with uniform pores, while ZIF-67 was successfully coated on the surface of Fe 3 O 4 -ZIF-8. The unique structure endowed M-ZIF-8@ZIF-67 a high surface area (219 m 2 /g) and high adsorption capacity for fipronil, fipronil desulfinyl, fipronil sulfide and fipronil sulfone. To our knowledge, this is the first report detailing the adsorption properties of M-ZIF-8@ZIF-67 with double layer structure relating to the adsorption and removal of pesticides. Furthermore, the adsorption model analysis demonstrated that the static adsorption data fitted the Freundlich bimolecular layer adsorption model better than the Langmuir monolayer adsorption model. This study indicates that M-ZIF-8@ZIF-67 has significant potential in the adsorption and removal of fipronil and its metabolites in water and vegetable samples.

The successful design of a hybrid supercapacitor with high power and energy density is mainly based on innovative materials and unique structures. Herein, self-supported Ni–Co(CO3)0.5(OH)·0.11H2O@MnNiCo–OH (Ni–CCH@MnNiCo–OH) with a hollow core/shell cactus-like structure was synthesized as a battery-type positive electrode and KOH-activated ZIF-67 derived Co, N dual-doped hierarchical ZIF-67-C-KOH was prepared as a capacitive-type negative electrode. Benefiting from the optimized ZIF-67-template modification and polymetallic co-deposition tactics, the positive electrode exhibits an outstanding specific capacity of 8.2 C cm−2 at 1.5 mA cm−2 (1029.3 C g−1 at 1 A g−1) and an impressive cycling retention of 88% after 3000 cycles at 20 mA cm−2, which are better than those of Ni–Co3O4@ZIF-67-Co3O4, Ni–CCH@NiCo–OH and Ni–CCH@MnCo–OH electrodes. Likewise, ZIF-67-C-KOH profits from the nitrogen-rich and porous properties of the precursor and can attain a specific capacitance of 262.4 F g−1 at 1 A g−1 as well as an excellent rate performance of 82% at 10 A g−1. The assembled Ni–CCH@MnNiCo–OH//ZIF-67-C-KOH hybrid device has a maximum voltage window of 1.8 V and achieves a specific capacitance of 187.3 F g−1 at 1 A g−1, a high energy density of 84.29 W h kg−1 at a power density of 900 W kg−1 as well as a fantastic stability up to 5000 cycles (74.91% retention at 2 A g−1), showing enormous potential in energy-storage applications.

Neonicotinoids, extensively present in water environment, can adversely affect the ecological safety and human health. Herein, a low-cost magnetic porous carbon ZIF-67/CS@C derived from ZIF-67 and agricultural waste corn stalk (CS) is designed and applied for adsorptive removal of imidacloprid and thiamethoxam from water. The adsorbent is fabricated by carbonizing ZIF-67/CS hybrid pre-prepared through an in-situ decoration of ZIF-67 on the surface of CS, and then acid picking to elute the unstable constituents. In the carbonization, Co 2+ ions are reduced to magnetic Co 0 nanoparticles, with the result that ZIF-67/CS@C shows a strong magnetic response (saturation magnetization intensity is 12.25 emu‧g −1 ) and can be easily magnetically separated. Meanwhile, Co nanoparticles are protectively encapsulated in well-developed graphitized wall, which endows ZIF-67/CS@C with good acid resistance (only 0.23% of Co is leached out at pH 1.0). More importantly, reasonable pore size distribution (most pore sizes match or are 3–6 times that of imidacloprid and thiamethoxam) and high external surface area (280 m 2 ‧g −1 ) are obtained, which makes ZIF-67/CS@C super adsorbent. The adsorption capacities for imidacloprid and thiamethoxam can reach as high as 189 and 133 mg‧g −1 , respectively. Moreover, after six consecutive recycling processes, the adsorption efficiencies are still above 95%, which reveals excellent reusability of ZIF-67/CS@C. Mechanism analysis affirms that pore-filling, H-bond, and π-π EDA interaction are mainly responsible for driving imidacloprid and thiamethoxam adsorption. Finally, ZIF-67/CS@C with a great security towards Daphnia carinata survival and wheat growth is eco-friendly. This study can be easily adapted to different biomass wastes and MOFs, thus potentially enabling the preparation of more novel adsorbents.

In this work, sandwich-like structured CoAl-LDH@ZIF-67 hybrids were constructed by in situ growth of nanosized ZIF-67 crystallites on CoAl-LDH nanoplates. The structure and morphology of CoAl-LDH@ZIF-67 hybrids were represented by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). Accordingly, the hybrids were introduced into epoxy resins to explore their effect on the thermal and fire safety properties of epoxy composites. With the introduction of 2% CoAl-LDH@ZIF-67 hybrids, the T10%, T50% and Tmax values were decreased to some extent and the char residue yield was higher than that of pristine epoxy. The peak heat release rate (PHRR) of epoxy composites declined by 26.4%, in comparison with those of pure epoxy. Moreover, the quantity of smoke produced, toxic CO released and CO2 produced were suppressed markedly and decreased by 16.7%, 59.8% and 32.2%, respectively. A possible mechanism for improving fire safety was put forward based on the analysis of the carbon residues.

Designing advanced bimetallic catalysts is essential to improving peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. Herein, a novel magnetic nickel/cobalt-layered double hydroxide decorated nitrogen-doped carbon (Ni/Co LDH@NC) catalyst we synthesized using carbonized ZIF-67 as a template for simultaneous removal of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) and Pb(Ⅱ) by PMS activation. The synthesized Ni/Co LDH@NC achieved complete degradation of SMX within 20 min and adsorbed Pb(Ⅱ) at 90.3 mg g −1 in 2 h. Notably, in simulated mixed wastewater, Ni/Co LDH@NC removed 100 % of SMX and simultaneously absorbed 84 % of Pb(Ⅱ) within 60 min. Density functional theory (DFT) studies revealed that synergistic Ni-Co sites and “bridging oxygen” vacancies enhanced electron transfer to PMS, facilitating O-O bond cleavage. The catalyst maintained high performance after four cycles, with over 85 % SMX degradation and 80 % Pb(Ⅱ) removal. This study highlights the potential of MOF-derived catalysts for efficient, simultaneous remediation of antibiotic and heavy metal pollutants, contributing to advanced wastewater treatment.

The development of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs)-derived magnetic carbon-based materials for high-efficiency electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption has attracted widespread attention. While these MOFs-derived composites have shown exceptional performance in absorbing EMWs within the X and Ku bands, the pursuit of effective absorption at lower frequencies remains a challenge. Herein, we demonstrate a novel strategy to synthesize hollow Co@C/C rods with excellent C-band EMW absorption via acetic acid etching and pyrolysis of core–shell ZIF-8@ZIF-67. Based on acetic acid etching, ligand-deficient ZIF-8@ZIF-67 rods with abundant mesoporous structures are constructed, enabling precise control over the Co nanoparticles content, graphitization degree, and pyridinic N doping in the derived Co@C/C. This simple fine-tuning approach simultaneously reduces dipole polarization by lowering the pyridinic N doping concentration, suppresses interfacial polarization and conduction loss through reducing the number of graphitic carbon layer, and enhances magnetic loss by increasing the Co content. These combined effects collectively improve the impedance matching of Co@C/C for low-frequency absorption. Notably, as the volume of acetic acid solution increases, the absorption frequency band of Co@C/C gradually shifts from the Ku-band to the C-band, while sustaining superior EMW absorption performance. At the filling ratio of merely 11 %, the RL min values for Co@C/C-20 and Co@C/C-30 achieve −49.8 dB and −34.7 dB at 7.2 GHz and 6.8 GHz, respectively. This study offers a valuable approach to the development of lightweight materials with excellent EMW absorption in C-band.
