All-inorganic CsPb(I1-xBrx)3 perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have increasingly broken record power conversion efficiency (PCE), however the poor stability in humid environment is still a serious bottleneck. To suppress the humidity-caused rapid transformation from black phase to yellow phase, germanium (Ge) doping is introduced to improve the tolerance factor of CsPb1-xGexI2.85Br0.15 and its photoelectric performance. A combined investigation of the structural and optical properties reveals a successful substitution of lead (Pb) with Ge in the films as well as a champion PCE of 19.70% for the 1% Ge doped PSC. More significantly, the Ge doped device retained 91.5% of its initial efficiency after being stored in air for 500 hours without any encapsulation process, in contrast to the 83.7% for the undoped counterpart.

A novel colorimetric approach specifically designed to effectively identify the presence of 3-aminophenol (3-AP) in environmental water is introduced. Briefly, a nitrogen-doped carbon-supported cobalt nanozyme (Co@CN-1) was synthesized and utilized to improve the oxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) in the presence of peroxymonosulfate (PMS). Comparative catalytic reactions confirmed that the performance of PMS as an activator exceeds that of hydrogen peroxide catalytically by a factor of 3.5. The catalytic reaction parameters underwent optimization, further resulting in the derivation of a linear detection equation for 3-AP, expressed as inhibition rate (IR%) = 3.35[3-AP]—4.36 (0–20 μM, R 2 = 0.994) and IR% = 1.43[3-AP] + 31.87 (20–36 μM, R 2 = 0.992), with the limit of detection (LOD) of 2.84 μM. The linear relationship between 3-AP concentration and the conversion of color to grayscale value (GSV) was established by smartphones, expressed as GSV = 1.28[3-AP] + 147.10 ( R 2 = 0.972). Density functional theory calculations revealed that Co acts as the preferred active site for donating electrons in PMS activation. This work provides a rapid and accurate approach for monitoring 3-AP concentration, enabling real-time analysis and potentially contributing to environmental and ecological studies. Pickering emulsions with a stimulus response have been paid extensive concern due to their long-term stability and demulsification on-command. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are expectable emulsifying agents to build Pickering emulsions based on their excellent properties such as high specific surface area, adjustable porosity and pore size. Herein, a novel kind of CO 2 -triggered Pickering emulsions formed by (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES)-functionalized M-MOF-74 (M-MOF-74-APTES, M = Zn, Cu or Mg) has been developed for the first time. It was found that even at the M-MOF-74-APTES amount of 0.5 wt%, the functionalized MOFs could still stabilize the n-hexane-water mixture to construct Pickering emulsions. The as-generated Pickering emulsions could be efficiently demulsified upon bubbling of CO 2 , resulting in complete separation of oil and water phases, but could be restored by subsequent N 2 bubbling under homogenization. Mechanism study indicated that the acid-base reaction of CO 2 with the amino group of M-MOF-74-APTES resulted in the creation of hydrophilic salts, which led to the lowering of particle wettability and broke the stability of the emulsion, causing demulsification of the Pickering emulsion. After removing CO 2 , the emulsion can be reconstructed by the reversible reaction. As an applied example, the Pickering emulsion has been availed as a micro-reaction system and M-MOF-74-APTES as a carrier of Pd(OAc) 2 catalyst to realize the efficient combination of Suzuki-Miyaura reaction, product isolation and reuse of catalysts via alternate bubbling or removing of CO 2 .

Poly[(3-hydroxybutyrate)- co -(4-hydroxybutyrate)] (P34HB), poly[(butylene succinate)- co -(butylene furandicarboxylate)] (PBSF) and poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) were melt-blended to prepare P34HB/PBSF/PVAc blends with improved ductility. The thermal properties, mechanical properties, rheological properties and morphology of the blends were systematically studied. The addition of PBSF promoted the melt crystallization of P34HB. The temperatures at 5% weight loss of the blends were higher than that of P34HB. The surface of the blends was investigated using scanning electron microscopy. The surface of P34HB was very smooth, but the surfaces of the blends were rough. PVAc can increase the compatibility between P34HB and PBSF. Compared with P34HB, the elongation at break of the blends was increased to 219.1%. © 2024 Society of Industrial Chemistry.

( R )-selective transaminases show promise as catalysts for the asymmetric synthesis of chiral amines, which are building blocks of various small molecule drugs. However, their application is limited by poor substrate acceptance and low catalytic efficiency. Here, a potential ( R )-selective transaminase from Fodinicurvata sediminis (FsTA) was identified through a substrate truncating strategy, and used as starting point for enzyme engineering toward catalysis of 4-hydroxy-2-butanone, a substrate that poses challenges in catalysis. Molecular docking and dynamics simulations revealed Y90 as the key residue responsible for poor substrate binding. Starting from the variant (Y90F, mut1) with initial activity, FsTA was systematically modified to improve substrate-binding through active site reshaping and consensus sequence strategy, yielding three variants (H30R, V152K, and Y156F) with improved activity. A quadruple mutation variant H30R/Y90F/V152K/Y156F (mut4) was also found to show a 7.95-fold greater catalytic efficiency ( k cat / K M ) than the initial variant mut1. Furthermore, mut4 also enhanced the thermostability of enzyme significantly, with the T m value increasing by 10 °C. This variant also exhibited significantly improved activity toward a series of ketones that are either not accepted or poorly accepted by the wild-type. This study provides a basis for the rational design of an active to creating variants that can accommodate novel substrates.

Perovskite quantum dots can form various forms such as nanowires, nanorods, and nanosheets through self-assembly. Nanoscale self-assembly can be used to fabricate materials with excellent device properties. This study introduces AuBr 3 into CsPb(Br/I) 3 quantum dots, causing them to assemble into nanowires. The nanowires form because part of Au 3+ is surface-doped to replace Pb 2+ , and the [PbX6] 4− octahedral structure is distorted. The symmetry of the structural surface is broken, and a dipole-moment-induced field is generated, thus promoting self-assembly. Moreover, the presence of Au nanoparticles (NPs) causes a localized surface plasmon resonance and generates strong van der Waals forces that promote self-assembly. Finally, to test other applications of perovskite nanowires, the solution method is used to prepare films by compounding the sample solution and polystyrene (PS) for backlighted displays.

Electroreduction of CO 2 for formic acid production has been regarded as an efficient option for CO 2 utilization. However, under high current, achieving high selectivity for formic acid is challenging, which cannot meet industrial demands. Herein, we reported a type of Bi/In(OH) 3 (BIO) heterojunction reconstructed from Bi 2 S 3 /In(OH) 3 during electrochemical process, in which In(OH) 3 was applied to modulate the electronic structure of Bi. This strategy efficiently enhanced the ∗OCHO intermediates adsorption and lead to a decent selectivity towards formic acid under high current density. BIO displays faraday efficiency of formic acid beyond 95 % across a wide range current density of 200–400 mA cm −2 , where the highest value reached 97.7 % at 400 mA cm −2 . This work clarified the mechanism of CO 2 electroreduction to HCOOH on heterojunction, guiding the design of advanced catalysts.

Silica particles modified with amino groups hold immense potential across diverse fields, owing to their distinctive properties. The widely adopted method of surface modification, utilizing (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES), facilitates the incorporation of amino-functional groups onto the silica surface, thereby creating sites for subsequent functionalization with other molecules. In this context, the ability to precisely tailor the surface properties of amino-functionalized silica particles is crucial for optimizing their performance in various applications. In this work, we systematically investigated the influence of the APTES concentration and water content on the density of amino groups grafted on the silica surface within an ethanol–water mixture. The rational control of hydrolysis and condensation of APTES enabled the precise regulation of the amino density on the silica surface, resulting in a notable shift in the isoelectric point from 2.9 to 9.2. Subsequently, we assembled amino-functionalized silica with different isoelectric points with gold nanoparticles to demonstrate their tunable ability as surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates. This controlled and tailored amino-functionalization process opens up new routes for fine-tuning the properties of silica particles, thereby expanding their utility across various applications in materials science, nanotechnology, and biomedicine.

A novel lignocellulose-based poly(butylene 3-propyladipate-co-furanoate) (PBApF) was synthesized from lignocellulose-derived 3-propyladipic acid (3PAA), 1,4-butanediol (BDO), and 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA). The copolyesters were characterized by1H NMR, GPC, DSC, TGA, XRD, DMA, rotational rheology, tensile tests, and enzymatic degradation tests. They were random copolymers whose composition was well controlled, and the number-average sequence lengths of the copolyesters were around 1.35–4.33. By combining the results of tensile tests and DMA, the elongation at break of PBApF45(1865%) had a much greater value than that of PBAF45(1250%), i.e., the branching incorporated into the linear polymer increased the melt strength and conferred tension-hardening properties, which helped to enhance the elongation of the polymer. In addition, the influences of 3PAA content on enzymatic degradation were studied in terms of weight loss; when the content of 3PAA was 55 mol%, the copolyesters exhibited good biodegradability. Thus, depending on their composition, PBApFSmight find end applications as biodegradable elastomers or impact modifiers for other polymers.

Industrialization and agricultural demand have both improved human life and led to environmental contamination. Especially the discharge of a lot of poisonous and harmful gases, including ammonia, ammonia pollution has become a pressing problem. High concentrations of ammonia can pose significant threats to both the environment and human health. Therefore, accurate monitoring and detection of ammonia gas are crucial. To address this challenge, we have developed an ammonia gas sensor using In(OH) 3 /Ti 3 C 2 T x nanocomposites through an in-situ electrostatic self-assembly process. This sensor was thoroughly characterized using advanced techniques like XRD, XPS, BET, and TEM. In our tests, the I/M-2 sensor exhibited remarkable performance, achieving a 16.8% response to 100 ppm NH 3 at room temperature, which is a 3.5-fold improvement over the pure Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene sensor. Moreover, it provides swift response time (20 s), high response to low NH 3 concentrations (≤ 10 ppm), and excellent long-term stability (30 days). These exceptional characteristics indicate the immense potential of our In(OH) 3 /Ti 3 C 2 T x gas sensor in ammonia detection. Graphical Abstract

The single-phase, cubic-structured Ba 3 La(PO 4 ) 3 ceramics were synthesized using the traditional solid-state reaction method. The ceramic sintered at 1375 °C exhibited a relative density of 95.4 %, indicative of a dense microstructure and excellent sintering characteristics. Furthermore, they displayed remarkable microwave dielectric properties : ε r = 9.54, Q × f = 32820 GHz, and τ f = −43.1 ppm/°C. In addition, the relative density is positively correlated with ε r and Q × f of ceramics. According to the complex chemical bond theory, the ionicity of the Ba/La–O bond has a more significant impact on the ε r , while the lattice energy and bond energy of the P–O bond respectively dominate the Q × f and τ f values. Moreover, the results from Raman spectroscopy indicate that several prominent Raman bands are associated with the vibration of the P–O bond. These findings suggest that Ba 3 La(PO 4 ) 3 ceramics hold promise for applications in high-frequency microwave communication.

Glycosylation profiling is an effective methodology for achieving a comprehensive understanding of glycoproteins and their alterations in a multitude of pathological conditions. However, in comparison to N-glycosylation, O-glycosylation presents significant challenges in terms of both qualitative and quantitative mass spectrometric analyses. A recently developed oxidative release protocol enables the selective formation of O-glycans containing a carboxyl group derived from the amino acid residue. In this study, 3-nitrophenylhydrazine was used to derivatize the common carboxyl group in a mild hydrophilic solution. Derivatization resulted in the generation of a series of report ions for serine, threonine, sialic acid, and O-acetylated sialic acid residues, thereby facilitating the identification of O-glycans and their attached amino acid residues, as well as the determination of the number of O-acetyl groups. A total of 65 O-glycans can be identified from bovine mucin. Furthermore, the analytical strategy revealed that O-acetylated N-acetylneuraminic acid (Neu5Ac)-containing O-glycans from horse serum exhibited distinctive fragmentation patterns in comparison to those from bovine mucin. Additionally, the presence of deaminoneuraminic acid (KDN)-containing O-glycans was successfully confirmed in fish intestinal tissue. These findings suggest that this method provides an economical and potentially valuable tool for large-scale O-glycosylation studies in complex biological samples.
