Optimal orientation is the key factor to optimize the gas separation performance of metal-organic framework (MOF) membranes. However, it is still greatly challenging to prepare large-area oriented MOF membranes for industrial applications. Herein, we prepared compact and (100) oriented zeolitic-imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) membranes with membrane area up to 500 cm 2 on the graphite substrate via support-induced strategy within 2 h. With membrane thickness of only 620 nm, the (100) oriented ZIF-8 membranes exhibit high gas separation performances due to the reduction of inter-crystalline defects and permeation resistance. At 100 °C and 1 bar, the separation factors of H 2 /CO 2 , H 2 /CH 4 and H 2 /C 3 H 8 are 18.5, 58.2 and 101.6, respectively, with H 2 permeance of about 160 x 10 −9 mol m −2 s −1 ·Pa −1 . The different positions of the 500 cm 2 ZIF-8 membrane show complete consistency in orientation and separation performance, recommending this membrane suitable for future industrial applications. Further, also oriented ZIF-67 and MOF-303 membranes can be consistently prepared by this strategy, confirming its versatility for the preparation of large-area MOF membranes.

In order to enhance CH 4 adsorption and absorption performance, ZIF-8@Cu was prepared by precipitation method at room temperature, while a hydrate accelerator of SO 3 − @PSNS was synthesized by the polymerization method, and CH 4 adsorption-absorption synergistic storage in ZIF-8@Cu that pre-adsorbed SO 3 − @PSNS solution was evaluated for the first time. It was found that Cu 2+ can effectively improve the adsorption kinetics of CH 4 , causing ZIF-8@Cu to reach a higher adsorption capacity, and CH 4 adsorption capacity of ZIF-8@Cu /0.14% is 12.45 % higher than that in ZIF-8. Furthermore, Cu 2+ provides additional nucleation sites for CH 4 hydrate, thereby enhancing the overall CH 4 storage density. For the water content of R w = 0.5, the doping of 0.14 % Cu 2+ causes CH 4 storage capacity via adsorption-absorption synergy increases by 33.93 %. It is worth to note that SO 3 − @PSNS significantly reduces hydration pressure while retains CH 4 adsorption ability in ZIF-8@Cu. For R w = 0.5, hydration pressure in SO 3 − @PSNS system reduces by up to 45 % compared with that in water system, while CH 4 storage capacity increases by up to 94 %. This finding makes it possible for CH 4 dense storage under low pressure via adsorption-hydration hybrid approach.

Despite the promising potential of zeolitic imidazole framework-8 (ZIF-8) for dye adsorption, addressing challenges such as aggregation and recycling difficulties remains essential. Herein,a novel three dimensional (3D) carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), graphene oxide (GO) and ZIF-8 hybrid aerogel (CGZ-3) was prepared via blending ZIF-8 into the CMC-GO matrix. The structure and composition of CGZ-3 were characterized by SEM, FT-IR, TG and XPS. Adsorption experiments were conducted to optimize various parameters affecting the behavior of methylene blue (MB) adsorption. The composite aerogel exhibited an obvious lamellar network structure, with a surface rich in oxygen-containing functional groups such as -OH and -COOH. CGZ-3 demonstrated a rapid adsorption rate for MB, achieving a removal efficiency of 96% within 15 minutes. The entire adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic, consistent with the pseudo-first-order kinetic model and Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. The maximum theoretical adsorption capacity was 427.35 mg/g at 298 K. Selective adsorptions tests demonstrated high selectivity of the composite aerogel for MB, and dynamic adsorption further confirmed the exceptional adsorption capacity of CGZ-3. After five cycles of adsorption-desorption, the MB removal rate remained above 95%, with an adsorption capacity exceeding 240 mg/g, highlighting the stability and reusability of CGZ-3. Collectively, the CGZ-3 would be a potential material for the adsorptive removal of MB in practical water treatment.

Antioxidant enzymes are considered to be the most direct and safe candidates to effectively resist oxidative stress and treat senile osteoporosis. However, due to their size, existing enzyme delivery carriers are inevitably endocytosed by cells and subsequently enter endosomes/lysosomes with low pH and rich in acid hydrolase, resulting in the limited therapeutic effects. In this work, an ultrasmall superoxide dismutase (SOD) nanoformulation reinforced with ultrathin ZIF-8 coating (utZIF-SOD) via in situ coordination-mediated self-assembly strategy is constructed. Notably, utZIF-SOD achieves direct, efficient cellular uptake mediated by small size effect, thereby avoiding lysosomal degradation. In particular, ultrathin ZIF-8 coating strengthened the stability of enzyme. Even in aged cells with high oxidative stress levels, utZIF-SOD maintained excellent stability, and its efficiency in scavenging excess intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) is ≈1.5 times that of native SOD, better promoting the osteogenic differentiation of aged bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. In a senile osteoporosis mouse model, the bone mineral density increment after treatment with utZIF-SOD is ≈2 times that of native SOD, achieving the reversal of senile osteoporosis. This work demonstrates the great promise in the synthesis of ultrasmall nanoformulations with ultrathin metal-organic framework coating and opens new avenues for efficient enzyme delivery.

BackgroundLung cancer remains a major global health threat due to its complex microenvironment, particularly the role of neutrophils, which are crucial for tumor development and immune evasion mechanisms. This study aimed to delve into the impact of lung cancer cell-conditioned media on neutrophil functions and their potential implications for lung cancer progression.MethodsEmploying in vitro experimental models, this study has analyzed the effects of lung cancer cell-conditioned media on neutrophil IL-8 and IFN-γ secretion, apoptosis, PD-L1 expression, and T-cell proliferation by using techniques, such as ELISA, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, and CFSE proliferation assay. The roles of IL-8/PD-L1 in regulating neutrophil functions were further explored using inhibitors for IL-8 and PD-L1.ResultsLung cancer cell lines were found to secrete higher levels of IL-8 compared to normal lung epithelial cells. The conditioned media from lung cancer cells significantly reduced apoptosis in neutrophils, increased PD-L1 expression, and suppressed T-cell proliferation and IFN-γ secretion. These effects were partially reversed in the presence of IL-8 inhibitors in Tumor Tissue Culture Supernatants (TTCS), while being further enhanced by IL-8. Both apoptosis and PD-L1 expression in neutrophils demonstrated dose-dependency to TTCS. Additionally, CFSE proliferation assay results further confirmed the inhibitory effect of lung cancer cell-conditioned media on T-cell proliferation.ConclusionThis study has revealed lung cancer cell-conditioned media to modulate neutrophil functions through regulating factors, such as IL-8, thereby affecting immune regulation and tumor progression in the lung cancer microenvironment.

To develop an environmentally friendly CO 2 capture technology, composite adsorbent beads were synthesized through the in situ growth of ZIF-8 in a nanocellulose gel scaffold prepared from pine needles-derived cellulose. The composite beads were subsequently functionalized with three ionic liquids ([BMIM][PF 6 ], [BMIM][BF 4 ], and [EMIM][TF 2 N]), which induced partial dissolution of the nanocellulose. This process resulted in the formation of unique wrinkled microstructures, resembling rice grains in morphology but exhibiting higher compressive strength. Notably, the IL-loaded CNF/ILs@ZIF-8 composites exhibited significantly superior adsorption performance over unmodified CNF@ZIF-8 (CZ) beads. Under static conditions (3 bar, 273 K), all three functionalized CNF/ILs@ZIF-8 variants enhanced CO 2 uptake capacities by > 46 %, with the [BMIM][PF 6 ] modified beads retaining 85.36 % of initial adsorption capacity after six adsorption–desorption cycles. Furthermore, under competitive dynamic adsorption (1 bar, 273 K), the [BMIM][BF 4 ] modified beads achieved a 43.12 % enhancement in CO 2 /N 2 selectivity compared to CZ. This work provides a MOF granulation strategy with process safety and environmental sustainability, potentially extending MOF applications in gas adsorption technologies.

Interleukin-8 (IL8) is a key factor in the promotion and regulation of vertebrate inflammatory and immune responses. In this study, a novel interleukin-8 ( Ca IL8) isolated from the humpback grouper ( Cromileptes altivelis ) was successfully cloned and characterized. The gene comprises a 375 bp open reading frame, encoding a protein of 124 amino acids with an estimated molecular weight of 11.2 kDa and contains four conserved cysteine residues common in other known IL8s. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that Ca IL8 is most closely related to IL8 from Epinephelus lanceolatus , and that both group within a fish-specific IL8 clade. Expression analysis demonstrated that CaIL8 is ubiquitously expressed in all the tested tissues from healthy humpback groupers, with high expression levels in the blood, intestine, brain, and liver. Upon infection with Vibrio harveyi , CaIL8 expression was upregulated in various tissues, and the recombinant Ca IL8 (r Ca IL8) exhibited significant binding to and antibacterial activity against the tested bacterial strains. Furthermore, r Ca IL8 enhanced the chemotaxis and proliferation of the head kidney leukocytes and increased the phagocytic activity of macrophages. In vivo experiments indicated that overexpression of Ca IL8 enhances the fish's ability to inhibit V. harveyi replication, while knocking it down reduces antibacterial capacity. This suggests that in teleosts, Ca IL8 acts as a proinflammatory cytokine, activating immune cells against bacterial infections.

Due to the hyperglycemic environment, diabetic wounds are highly susceptible to bacterial infections, facilitating their progression to chronic, non-healing wounds. Consequently, there is an urgent need to develop wound dressings capable of reducing wound glucose levels and exerting strong antibacterial activities. In this study, a ZIF-8/Au-GOx (ZAG) nanozyme was grown in situ on fluffy chitin (FC) powder by integrating zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), glucose oxidase (GOx), and Au nanoparticles, leading to the development of a multifunctional wound dressing (FC/ZAG) for diabetic wound therapy. Benefiting from the cascade catalytic effect of the loaded ZAG nanozyme, FC/ZAG demonstrated a remarkable hypoglycemic activity and potent antibacterial properties. Additionally, owing to the biocompatibility of FC and the sustained release of Zn 2+ , the FC/ZAG powder exhibited a superior safety profile. In experiments in a mouse model of diabetic wound healing, FC/ZAG exerted significant anti-inflammatory and pro-angiogenic effects, accelerating the healing process of diabetic wounds. These findings highlight the high potential of FC/ZAG as a promising candidate for the development of advanced diabetic wound dressings.

The development of high-efficiency adsorbents for addressing Pb(II) contamination in aquatic environments remains an urgent challenge in environmental remediation. This study presents a novel thiol-functionalized ZIF-8-based adsorbent (ZIF-8-TMT) with a stable 3D framework and abundant thiol groups, designed to overcome the limitations of conventional adsorption materials. The synthesized ZIF-8-TMT demonstrated a substantial BET surface area (456.58 m 2 /g) and numerous active adsorption sites, exhibiting exceptional Pb(II) adsorption capacity (494.9 mg/g) that surpassed most previously reported adsorbents. Systematic characterization revealed that the composite achieved rapid adsorption kinetics, with approximately 80 % removal efficiency within 30 min, and maintained excellent regenerability - showing negligible capacity reduction after three adsorption-desorption cycles and retaining over 60 % removal efficiency after five cycles. The adsorption mechanism was comprehensively investigated through Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and computational simulations including density functional theory (DFT), bond order density (BOD), and natural adaptive orbital (NAdO) analyses. Results indicated that the superior adsorption performance originated from synergistic effects between electrostatic interactions and dual coordination involving the N3 atoms in 2-methylimidazole ligands and thiol (-SH) groups from TMT. This study not only provides fundamental insights into the coordination chemistry of Pb(II) adsorption but also demonstrates the practical potential of ZIF-8-TMT for wastewater treatment applications, offering a promising solution for heavy metal pollution control with its combination of high capacity, rapid kinetics, and excellent reusability.

The design of superhydrophobic materials based on zeolite imidazolate frameworks (ZIF) has attracted considerable attention due to their exceptional chemical stability, high specific surface area, and environmental friendliness. However, research in the fields of anti-corrosion and anti-icing remains in its infancy, and the mechanical stability of reported ZIF-based superhydrophobic surfaces is generally poor. In this study, we synthesized ZIF-8@PDA materials in an aqueous system and followed with stearic acid (STA) modification to achieve low surface energy, resulting in ZIF-8@PDA@STA. Subsequently, we applied a spray-coating method to sequentially construct WPU and ZIF-8@PDA@STA layer on aluminum alloy substrates, achieving a ZIF-8@PDA@STA/WPU superhydrophobic coating with exceptional mechanical stability. This coating retained its superhydrophobicity even after 5600 cm of abrasion distance. Furthermore, results from surface wettability, electrochemical and anti-icing tests demonstrated that the coated aluminum alloy exhibited excellent interfacial non-wetting, self-cleaning, anti-fouling, and significantly enhanced corrosion resistance and delayed icing properties. Additionally, the facile preparation of this coating on various substrates facilitates the large-scale application of such materials. The construction of this multifunctional ZIF-8 based superhydrophobic coating is expected to greatly expand the application of ZIF materials across diverse fields.

To support the development of a low-carbon economy and contribute to the achievement of carbon neutrality, this study synthesized bifunctional zeolitic imidazolate framework-8-based nanozymes (ZNZs) with dual functionality: CO2 adsorption and carbonic anhydrase (CA)-mimetic catalytic activity. The influence of ZNZs at varying concentrations on the growth rate of microalgae, chlorophyll and carbohydrate content, and ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco) and CA activity were explored. Results indicated that after the addition of 5 mg/L ZNZs, the growth rate of microalgae increased by 7%. Furthermore, the maximum chlorophyll and carbohydrate contents reached 4.55 and 43.59 mg/L, respectively, which were 12.6 and 4.2% higher than those in the control group. Additionally, Rubisco and CA activity (intra- and extracellular) increased by up to 21.26, 10, and 8.3%, respectively. These findings demonstrate that ZNZs enhance the photosynthetic efficiency of microalgae and increase microalgae’s affinity for CO2, highlighting their promise as a strategy for improving carbon capture and sustainable bioenergy production.

An electrochemical aptamer sensor for the sensitive detection of aflatoxin B1(AFB1) in corn samples was developed using nanocomposites loaded with copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) on zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), which were modified on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The CuNPs@ZIF-8 nanocomposites served as modifying materials for electrodes, exhibiting a high specific surface area and excellent compatibility with aptamers, thereby enhancing the electron transfer rate and increasing the aptamer loading and immobilization efficiency. The electrochemical properties before and after modification were investigated and validated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques, while the sensor’s performance was analyzed through quantitative detection via differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Furthermore, various conditions, including the volume of ZIF-8 dispersion, electrodeposition time of copper nanoparticles, aptamer concentration, and AFB1incubation time, were optimized. The results indicated that the sensor exhibited a wide linear range (10.0 to 1.0 × 106pg/mL), with a lower limit of detection (LOD) of 1.13 pg/mL under optimized conditions, outperforming other reported aptamer sensors. The spiked recoveries in corn samples ranged from 96.663% to 105.72%. In conclusion, this sensor presents a novel solution for low-cost and high-sensitivity detection of AFB1.
