Microporous polymer membranes have received extensive attention in the membrane separation field based on the advantage of high gas permeance and low cost. However, there are a few reports of microporous polyacrylate membranes fabricated by interfacial polymerization (IP), and the formation mechanism and influence factor of the microporous structure is rarely illuminated. In this work, thin-film polyacrylate membrane with circular microporous morphology were prepared by IP method with cyclodextrin and acyl chloride as the aqueous and oil phase monomer respectively for effective gas separation. The effects of the aqueous and organic phase monomer structure and concentration, the concentration and type of alkali in the aqueous solution on the membrane morphology and gas separation performance were investigated in detail. As a result, the polyacrylate membrane fabricated by β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and trimesoyl chloride (TMC) with optimal content of NaOH in the aqueous phase formed the special circular microporous structure by the scanning electronic microscope (SEM) characterization. The resulting membrane showed CO 2 permeance of 200 GPU with CO 2 /N 2 ideal separation selectivity of 10.53. This work provides an effective strategy to fabricate high performance polyacrylate membrane by regulating the monomer structure and the alkali concentration in the aqueous phenol solution with IP method, which would inspire the exploration of other phenolic monomer for the assembly of microporous polymer membranes for gas separation or seawater desalination.

For real-time environmental monitoring and gas detection under harsh conditions, gas sensors with high reliability, sensitivity, and selectivity are in increasing demand. Therefore, pine-branch-like α-Fe 2 O 3 /TiO 2 with a core–shell hierarchical heterojunction structure was designed and fabricated for ethanol sensing. The heterojunction increased the O adsorption, resulting in the formation of more chemisorbed O species for reaction with the target gas. Moreover, the pine-branch-like morphology formed three-dimensional hollow holes as channels for molecule diffusion and adsorption. Compared with gas-proof structures, the hollow regions can realize gas diffusion in the inner and outer surfaces of materials simultaneously. Further, in contrast to aggregated structures, the fibers were separated from each other, and charge conduction between the fibers needed to pass through the surface sensing layer at the fiber boundary; thus, the overall resistance change of the sensors was significantly affected by the response of the heterojunction to the target gas. Consequently, the α-Fe 2 O 3 /TiO 2 sensor exhibited a high response value of 40.4 toward 500 ppm ethanol gas and had excellent selectivity to ethanol. The proposed strategy may facilitate the design and construction of effective heterojunctions and nanostructures for gas sensing.

A metal–phenolic network coating was constructed on PMP hollow fiber membranes. • The Engineered interface forms a stable hydration layer that resits protein adsorption and platelet adhesion. • The Coating synergistically suppressed the thrombosis-inflammation cascade. • The modified membrane exhibited potent reactive oxygen species scavenging activity. • Stable CO 2 removal was maintained during prolonged blood circulation. Polymer hollow fiber membranes used in blood-contacting gas exchange applications often suffer from insufficient hemocompatibility due to their intrinsically hydrophobic and biologically inert surfaces, which can induce nonspecific biofouling, thrombosis, and inflammatory responses during long-term operation. Herein, we present a facile bioinspired metal–phenolic interfacial engineering strategy to construct a stable, multifunctional coating on poly(4-methyl-1-pentene) (PMP) hollow fiber membranes through one-step coordination between tannic acid (TA) and Fe 3+ ions. The resulting TA–Fe 3+ metal–phenolic network forms a highly hydrated and mechanically stable surface layer, providing effective resistance against nonspecific adsorption and maintaining interfacial integrity under dynamic flow conditions. The engineered interface significantly enhanced hemocompatibility by suppressing protein adsorption (reduced from 53.8 μg/cm 2 to 10.4 μg/cm 2 ), minimizing blood cell adhesion, prolonging activated partial thromboplastin time, and decreasing thrombus formation by approximately 75%. Meanwhile, the phenolic groups within the metal–phenolic network provide efficient reactive oxygen species (ROS)-scavenging capability, thereby attenuating macrophage-mediated inflammatory responses and reducing the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Dynamic circulation tests confirmed the excellent interfacial stability of the coating under continuous blood flow without compromising the intrinsic gas transport characteristics or CO 2 removal performance of the membranes. This work establishes a robust metal–phenolic interfacial engineering strategy for multifunctional modification of polymer hollow fiber membranes, offering new opportunities for developing durable blood-contacting membranes for extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal (ECCO 2 R) and other membrane-based extracorporeal circulation systems. The gas diffusion layer (GDL) is a key component responsible for mass transfer in the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC); however, the conventional commercial GDLs exist with series of disadvantages of the long mass transfer routine, high cost of the substrate layer, and complex preparation processes. To address these problems, we develop a novel substrate-free gas diffusion layer (sfGDL) composed of the whisker carbon nanotubes and Ketjen blacks as a crack-free micrometer network structure. Such a unique sfGDL exhibits a competitively high power density of 1.37 W cm −2 at 100 % relative humidity and 3.77 A cm −2 current density at 0.2 V. Besides, compared with the conventional GDLs, the thickness of sfGDL in this work is significantly reduced by 40 %, indicating great potential for practical applications. This work paves a new way to boost the high performance of PEMFCs.

Rare earth doping was an effective method to upgrade the gas-sensing performance of sensors based on oxide semiconductors . In this paper, Pr was successfully doped into In 2 O 3 nanomaterials with a facile co-precipitation approach through a hydrothermal strategy. The as-obtained series of Pr doped In 2 O 3 nanocomposites were analyzed by some technical characterization. The gas-sensing tests were performed by using series of Pr/In 2 O 3 nanocomposites as sensitive materials. The results illustrated that the doping of Pr not only reduced the particle size of Pr/In 2 O 3 nanocomposites but also produced more active oxygen on the surface of In 2 O 3 , thus, the responses of Pr/In 2 O 3 -based sensors towards ethanol gas (112.40–50 ppm) were enhanced. A possible mechanism for the improved gas-sensing property of Pr decorated In 2 O 3 sensors was proposed.

A novel gas-pressurized (GP) torrefaction method at 250 °C has recently been developed that realizes the deep decomposition of cellulose in lignocellulosic solid wastes (LSW) to as high as 90% through deoxygenation and aromatization reactions. However, the deoxygenation and aromatization mechanisms are currently unclear. In this work, these mechanisms were studied through a developed molecular structure calculation method and the GP torrefaction of pure cellulose. The results demonstrate that GP torrefaction at 250 °C causes 47 wt.% of mass loss and 72 wt.% of O removal for cellulose, while traditional torrefaction at atmospheric pressure has almost no impact on cellulose decomposition. The GP-torrefied cellulose is determined to be composed of an aromatic furans nucleus with branch aliphatic C through conventional characterization. A molecular structure calculation method and its principles were developed for further investigation of molecular-level mechanisms. It was found 2-ring furans aromatic compound intermediate is formed by intra- and inter-molecular dehydroxylation reactions of amorphous cellulose, and the removal of O-containing function groups is mainly through the production of H2O. The three-ring furans aromatic compound intermediate and GP-torrefied cellulose are further formed through the polymerization reaction, which enhances the removal of ketones and aldehydes function groups in intermediate torrefied cellulose and form gaseous CO and O-containing organic molecules. A deoxygenation and aromatization mechanism model was developed based on the above investigation. This work provides theoretical guidance for the optimization of the gas-pressurized torrefaction method and a study method for the determination of molecular-level structure and the mechanism investigation of the thermal conversion processes of LSW.Keywords:lignocellulosic solid wastes;cellulose;gas-pressurized torrefaction;molecular structure;deoxygenation mechanism;aromatization mechanism

Enzymatic microreactors have gradually become a research hotspot as they can provide an ideal environment for the enzymatic reaction to ensure that the enzymatic reaction can be carried out in an organized manner. Here, inspired by the cellular structure of eukaryotic organisms, we developed Alginate@Chitosan (Alg@CS) microparticles for enzymatic reactions by oil-free gas-shearing method, allowing free access to substrate and product while shielding the enzyme from its surroundings. With the interpenetrating network crosslinked by Alg, CS and Ca 2+ as the substrate, XOD can be encapsulated in particles at the same time of crosslinking. The microreactors are more stable and could provide more active sites for XOD with the addition of CS. The microreactors show excellent recyclability and 4 °C storage stability. This work opens up an intriguing avenue for enzyme microreactor preparation, which is important for the construction of artificial biomimetic catalytic systems.

To improve the homogeneity of heating, the magnetic absorbing material Fe3O4 is considered to use in microwave pyrolysis of oily sludge. Therefore, the effect of Fe3O4 on the microwave pyrolysis of oily sludge is investigated based on gas volatile products. Thermogravimetric mass spectrometry result certifies that Fe3O4 will increase the weight-loss ratio from 13.0% to 14.1%. Also, the characteristic peak intensity of CO in gas products decreases from 5.41 × 10−10 A/g to 1.95 × 10−10 A/g, while H2O increases from 3.57 × 10−10 A/g to 7.32 × 10−10 A/g and CO2 increases from 6.87 × 10−10 A/g to 8.92 × 10−10 A/g. This is caused by the esterification of alcohols and esters and the reduction of Fe3O4 by CO. Based on the decrease in activation energy and enthalpy values of Stage II and IV, it infers that Fe3O4 catalyzes the pyrolysis process of oily sludge to some extent. Similarly, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry results show that Fe3O4 can make the types of gas products increase. Especially, the number of molecular species increases from 5 to 46 under 200–300 °C. Finally, a simple molecular dynamics simulation model is conducted, and the results are in agreement with the experimental results. This study shows that Fe3O4 improves the pyrolysis homogeneity and the pyrolysis efficiency also improves.

The development of NO 2 gas sensors with lower operating temperature and good thermal stability is always a challenge to solve. In this work, 2D loose porous ZnO/GaN heterogeneous nanosheets were synthesized by ultrasonic mixing, in which ZnO nanosheets and GaN nanoparticles were prepared by hydrothermal method and solid-state pyrolysis , respectively. BET characterization result showed that the specific surface area of loose porous ZnO nanosheets was 57.24 m 2 /g, and XPS tests proved that the formation of heterogeneous interface between ZnO and GaN can effectively increase the number of negative oxygen ion species on the surface. Noticeably, 15 mol % ZnO/GaN composites (Ga:Zn) exhibited the highest response of 134.5–2 ppm of NO 2 at 125 °C and lower limit of detection of 20 ppb. Furthermore, it showed outstanding selectivity, repeatability and long-term stability. The excellent gas-sensing properties can be attributed to the loose porous structure of ZnO and the formation of n-n heterojunction between ZnO and GaN. The gas-sensing mechanism of ZnO/GaN composites to NO 2 was also discussed in detail.

In this study, multiferroic BiFeO 3 particles with size of ∼ 50 nm and good crystallinity were prepared via a simple sol–gel method and annealing. And the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) sensing properties of BiFeO 3 sensor were measured under both traditional thermal excitation and synergetic thermal-magnetic excitation. In particular, auxiliary magnetic field was first introduced into testing environment. The results shows that the optimum operating temperature of the sensor decreases 10℃ by introducing magnetic field, and the sensor shows three times faster response speed and diverse selectivity with best response to n -butanol under thermal excitation while butanone under thermal-magnetic excitation. In addition, the sensor has response value of 1.25 to 1 ppm n -butanol, indicating the possibility of detecting low concentration of toxic gases. The effect of magnetic field on multiferroic BiFeO 3 sensor can be divided into three aspects: decrease of defects on domain wall, excitation of testing gas molecules with asymmetry electron cloud distributions and activation of surface-absorbed oxygen species with unpaired electrons.

Cellulose-based carbon (CBC) is widely known for its porous structure and high specific surface area and is liable to adsorb gas molecules and macromolecular pollutants. However, the application of CBC in gas sensing has been little studied. In this paper, a ZnO/CBC heterojunction was formed by means of simple co-precipitation and high-temperature carbonization. As a new ammonia sensor, the prepared ZnO/CBC sensor can detect ammonia that the previous pure ZnO ammonia sensor cannot at room temperature. It has a great gas sensing response, stability, and selectivity to an ammonia concentration of 200 ppm. This study provides a new idea for the design and synthesis of biomass carbon–metal oxide composites. Keywords:gas sensor;ammonia;zinc oxide;microcrystalline cellulose

To cement natural gas hydrate (NGH) layers in the deep and ultra-deep water environment, cement slurries must display both low heat of hydration (HOH) and high early strength. Herein, chemical precipitation was used to prepare a microencapsulated phase change material (MPCM) comprising a core of phase change materials and a shell of silica. The MPCM could effectively control the temperature increase during cement hydration and improve the early strength of cement pastes by accelerating hardening. Comprehensive physical and chemical analyses were carried out to identify a suitable ratio of MPCM and its underlying mechanisms. A laboratory device was further used to test the effect of MPCM-cement composite slurries on the thermal stability of NGHs. The properties of this new cement slurry system meet the requirements for cementing NGH layers in deep and ultra-deep water areas. This cement composite has broad application potential in the oil and natural gas industry.
