Rare earth elements are essential components in renewable energy technologies and advanced functional materials. Despite their critical importance, they are typically present in low concentrations and are in increasingly high demand. Current mining and refining processes are energy intensive and cause significant environmental pollution. Therefore, there is an urgent need for eco-friendly, rapid, and effective analytical methods for their exploration. Traditional detection techniques are often costly, time-consuming, and non-portable. There remains a critical gap in the availability of rapid, sensitive, and economical sensors for rare earth element detection. In this study, we introduce a novel portable electrochemical detection system. This system utilizes a recombinant plasmid constructed using a codon-optimized gene to heterologously express a high-affinity protein that binds rare-earth ions. It integrates a graphene oxide-coated screen-printed electrode with an electrochemical workstation for the detection of rare-earth ions. Given that Yb has widespread applications among rare-earth elements, we selected Yb 3+ for detection to validate the sensor's performance. The developed electrochemical biosensor exhibits a detection limit of 1.617 μM and demonstrates linear response across a concentration range of 10–90 μM (R 2 = 0.98). This rare-earth ion electrochemical sensor offers multiple advantages, including high sensitivity, a broad detection range, low cost, ease of use, portability, and potential for field deployment. The materials employed are environmentally friendly, aligning with green production requirements. The proposed method holds promise for practical applications in rare earth mineral exploration.

Through reaction of the active functional groups on framework of Graphene oxide (GO) with 9, 10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) and cage octaminopropyl silsesquioxane (oapPOSS), a novel multi-structure synergistic graphene-based ternary graft flame retardant oapPOSS-graft-GO-graft-DOPO (P G D) was designed and synthesized successfully. The obtained P G D was then applied in PP flame retardation. Compared with pure PP, the peak heat release rate and total heat release of PP composite are reduced by 78.0% and 44.9% via adding 25 wt% P G D. These notable reductions in fire hazards are mainly due to the synergistic effects of graphene/nitrogen/phosphorus/silicon multi-structures: the graphene sheets enhance the barrier property of carbon layers to prevent heat and volatile transfer; the phosphorus-containing groups as catalyst accelerate and promote the char formation in condensed phase; the Si O Si structures improve the thermal oxidative stability; the nitrogen elements in P G D produce the inert gases at high temperature and play a major role in the gaseous phase.

Graphene oxide (GO) has triggered significant attention as a new type of self-assembly membrane material. However, the low filtration flux and unstable performance of GO membrane limit its practical application. Hence, in this work, layered double hydroxides (LDHs), as a 2D material with double-layer channel structure and positive electricity, were self-assembled with GO at weight ratio of 7:3 by electrostatic interaction. Then, the GO/LDH hybrids combined with polydopamine (PDA) to obtain stable and high-flux GO-based membranes through vacuum filtration and the structure and morphology of as-prepared samples were characterized by FT-IR, XRD, XPS, and SEM. Furthermore, the separation performance and surface electronegativity of membranes were tested via pure water flux, rejection efficiency, recycle experiments, and zeta potential. Results revealed that the stability and flux of composite membrane were enhanced significantly compared with neat GO-based membrane. Further, the dye rejection rate of methylene blue (MB) is higher than Congo red (CR) and rhodamine B (Rh B) and reached to 99.8%.

Developing the high-efficient and robust antifouling membranes for oily emulsions to achieve the purpose of prolonging the service life of the membrane shows great demand because of the restriction of hydration anti-fouling mechanism strategy to against pollution. Herein, a hydrophilic photo-Fenton-like catalyst – GO/Fe-MOF assembled stabilized polyacrylonitrile (SPAN) nanofibrous membrane with underwater superoleophobicity, robust mechanical strength and photo-Fenton self-cleaning performance was firstly designed and fabricated via ultrasonic assistance, mussel-inspired fixation and low temperature hydrothermal synthesis methods. In this work, benefiting by the regulable amounts of GO nanosheets on the SPAN@GO/M88A membrane surface, the obtained membrane possessed sub-micrometer skin layer, which guarantees the balance of fast permeation flux (920–7083 ± 47 L m −2 h −1 ) and separation efficiency (>99.2%) for diesel/water emulsion with small emulsified oils. Moreover, introduced hydrophilic Metal-organic frame nanoparticles (MIL-88A (Fe)) into modified membrane endowed underwater anti-oil-fouling and photo-Fenton catalytic degradation performance for organic contaminants. Meanwhile, the charged GO/M88A heterostructure can assist to achieve demulsification for separation of surfactant-stabilized emulsions by strong electrostatic force. More importantly, attached and irremovable contaminants on the membrane can be quickly removed by photo-Fenton self-cleaning method, and achieved over 96% of recovery flux recovery ratio, which effectively prolonged the service life of the membrane. We believe the newly designed SPAN@GO/M88A membrane with hydration antifouling and photo-Fenton self-cleaning properties can stimulate more studies on revivable separation membranes for multifunctional applications.

Fe3O4 nanoparticles (Fe3O4 NPs) are typical magnetic materials for bone tissue regeneration. However, the accompanying oxidative stress during the reaction process of Fe3O4 NPs and H2O2 in bone remodeling and disease may hinder their application. In order to reduce this side effect, we selected graphene oxide (GO) to modify Fe3O4 NPs. We showed that Fe3O4@GO magnetic nanocomposites (Fe3O4@GO MNCs) eliminated 30% of H2O2 in 3 h, and reduced the amount of ˙OH, the intermediate product of the Fenton reaction. The cellular study demonstrated that Fe3O4@GO MNCs reduced the cell damage caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS) and improved the activity of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Moreover, when the magnetic field and bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP2) delivered by Fe3O4@GO MNCs worked together, osteogenic differentiation of MSCs in vitro was well promoted.

Nanoscale hydroxyapatite (HAp) is an optimal candidate material in biomedical area for its good biocompatibility and bioactivity. In this study, HAp nanorods are prepared via hydrothermal method and combined with monolayered graphene oxide (GO). The obtained HAp@GO with excellent biocompatibility is revealed to have high drug loading capacity (698.7 μg/mg) for anticancer drug doxorubicin (DOX) and efficient photothermal conversion property. And the drug release property of DOX loaded HAp@GO (HAp@GO-DOX) is demonstrated to be controlled by pH and near-infrared light, which is favorable for cancer therapy. in vitro studies on cancer therapy demonstrate that the combined treatment, compared with either chemotherapy or photothermal therapy alone, has better synergistic therapeutic effect. These findings prove the great potential application of the nanocomposites for cancer therapy.

Enhancing spatial charge separation is an efficient strategy for the improvement of photocatalytic performance. Herein, an ammonia synthesis approach was proposed with an in-situ grown ternary GO/MoS 2 /Ag 3 PO 4 Z-scheme heterostructure photocatalytic system to promote spatial charge separation at surface & interface. Owing to the decent electrical and thermal conductivity properties of GO, ternary photocatalyst delivered evidently enlarged surface area, promoted spatial charges separation and significantly enhanced N 2 photo-fixation efficiency under irradiation of visible light. Through the synergistic effect of electron transportation on GO and the efficient separation of electron-hole pairs on heterojunction, the transportation and separation of photo-generated charges can be realized on both surface and interface, leading to better harvest and utilization of light illumination. The possible Z-scheme heterostructure mechanism for N 2 photo-fixation reaction was explored, which not only offers a new approach for design of heterostructure photocatalysis system but also provides a novel strategy for enhanced spatial charges separation.

In this work, the development of a simple and sensitive electrochemical sensor for the simultaneous determination of sulfadiazine (SDZ) and acetaminophen (AP) is described. The sensor harnessed a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) for selective recognition of SDZ and AP, and a graphene [email protected] organic framework ( [email protected] ) nanocomposite for signal amplification. The [email protected] nanocomposite was first immobilized on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE), after which a polypyrrole MIP was electrodeposited on the modified electrode. The resulting electrochemical sensor (denoted as MIP/ [email protected] /GCE) showed a strong current response to both SDZ and AP in phosphate buffer at pH 7.0. Under optimal testing conditions, linear calibration curves were obtained over the concentration range 0.5–200 μM for SDZ and 0.05–20 μM for AP, with limits of detection being 0.16 μM and 0.032 μM, respectively. Beef and fodder samples spiked with SDZ and AP were extracted in ethyl acetate, then the SDZ and AP in the extracts quantified using the MIP/ [email protected] /GCE sensor. Recoveries were excellent, ranging from 82.0 to 108.0%. The same method was also employed to determine SDZ and AP residues in pork and chicken samples, with the results correlating well with those obtained using high-performance liquid chromatography.

There has been plenty of attempts to engineer functional membranes with excellent comprehensive properties, figuring out how to both achieve excellent selectivity and permeation flux in one membrane is facing challenges. In this work, a subversive synthesis strategy with hierarchical structure was first proposed for the preparation of polymerization (PDA)-based activated carbon particles (ACPs)/GO nanocomposite imprinted membranes (P-AGNMs). A PDA-based imprinting process was initially performed on ACPs/GO surfaces to synthesize the PDA-based propranolol-imprinted sites, the P-AGNMs were then obtained through an innovative electrostatic spinning process. Based on the propranolol-imprinted PDA-ACPs/GO blended membrane structure, simultaneous benefits in both adsorption selectivity and permselectivity performance toward propranolol had been accomplished. Specifically, excellent rebinding capacity (54.9 mg g −1 ), fast adsorption kinetics and permselectivity coefficients (more that 3.5) could be easily obtained. Importantly, the optimized experimental results strongly suggested that the as-designed propranolol-imprinted sites from PDA-modified surfaces played crucial roles for obtaining increasing rebinding capacities of P-AGNMs. In addition, the as-prepared P-AGNMs were synthesized without complicated procedures and polluting the environment, which demonstrated that the as-designed synthesis methodology of P-AGNMs had great potential for applications in selective separation field.

A sensitive solid semiconductor-based surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrate can realize recyclable and portable detection of organic pollutants. In this paper, TiO 2 nanosheets (NSs) on FTO glass substrate were synthesized by a simple and controllable hydrothermal method , followed by decoration of plasmonic Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs), and further deposition of graphene oxide (GO). The GO and AgNPs co-modified TiO 2 substrate showed improved signal reproducibility, longer-term stability, and higher detection sensitivity than that of TiO 2 counterparts. Note that, the optimized TiO 2 -Ag-GO substrate can also be utilized to discriminate multiple organic pollutants with a portable Raman instrument. The limit of detection (LOD) for crystal violet (CV), rhodamine 6 G (R6G) and malachite green (MG) was 10 −9 M, 10 −8 M, and 10 −7 M, respectively. Moreover, the solid substrate was applied to discern low concentrations of CV residue (10 −8 M) on crayfish’s shell and thiram residue (10 −6 M) on grape skin. As a proof of concept, multiplex detections were also demonstrated. More significantly, the better photocatalytic degradation performance of the TiO 2 -Ag-GO makes the solid substrate reuse for 10 cycles. The solid SERS substrate may have great potential for practical applications and resource-confined detections.

Efficient separation of oil–water emulsion remains a persistent challenge in wastewater treatment, as conventional membranes often suffer from fouling, poor recyclability, and lack of dynamic control. Here, we report a light-triggered thermo-responsive superwetting nanofiber membrane (PPZ@GO) that combines electrospun PNIPAM/PVDF nanofibers with graphene oxide (GO) and in situ grown bimetallic CoZn–ZIF frameworks. In this hybrid design, PVDF provides mechanical robustness, PNIPAM enables reversible thermo-responsive wettability, GO facilitates rapid photothermal heating, and CoZn–ZIF imparts hierarchical roughness and enhanced interfacial functionality. The optimized [email protected] % membrane exhibits rapid photothermal heating to 48.6 °C within 20 s under simulated solar light, enabling reversible wettability switching between underwater superoleophobicity (light off, below LCST) and under-oil superhydrophobicity (light on, above LCST). This dual-mode response allows on-demand separation of both oil-in-water and water-in-oil emulsions, achieving fluxes above 2000 L m −2 h −1 and 1000 L m −2 h −1 , respectively, with separation efficiencies exceeding 99 %. The membrane further demonstrates excellent antifouling resistance, mechanical durability, and stable performance across repeated cycles. By integrating photothermal conversion with thermo-responsive switching in a nanofibrous MOF–polymer scaffold, this work provides a versatile strategy for designing smart, energy-efficient membranes, offering broad potential for next-generation oily wastewater remediation and advanced separation technologies.

As the core component of wearable electronic devices, flexible energy storage materials play an irreplaceable role. At present, it is still a challenge to prepare flexible electrode materials with high energy density. In this paper, a polyaniline-based composite flexible conductive hydrogel (PPG-P) with a two-level conductive network is successfully prepared by a secondary induced assembly in situ polymerization method. The special conductive structure greatly promotes the efficiency of charge transfer and the utilization of electroactive substances, so that PPG-P exhibits excellent electrochemical performance. In a three-electrode system, PPG-P has a mass-specific capacitance as high as 989 F g −1 (0.5 A g −1 ). After 1000 charge and discharge cycles, the capacitance retention is 87%. Symmetrical flexible supercapacitors based on PPG-P have high specific capacitance (176 F g −1 /0.5 A g −1 ) and high energy density (15.6 Wh kg −1 ). After 1000 cycles of constant current charge and discharge, the capacitance maintains 78.1%. The preparation of PPG-P with a hierarchical structure demonstrates the possibility of achieving high energy density in flexible electrode materials, which has great application potential in the development of energy storage elements in wearable devices.
