Al 2 O 3 -supported Ni-Mo as a low-cost and efficient bimetallic catalyst has been applied in the hydrodeoxygenation of plant oils or fats for production of high-quality hydrocarbon fuels, but it is still challenge to avoid the serious cleavage of C-C bonds caused by isolated single-metal Ni sites. Herein, we report a novel Al 2 O 3 -supported Mo-Ni catalyst (Mo-Ni@Al 2 O 3 ) with Ni and Mo sites in close proximity to enhance the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) selectivity of fatty acid esters. Compared with the conventional Mo-Ni/γ-Al 2 O 3 catalyst showing high hydrogenolysis activity for C−C bonds, the Mo-Ni@Al 2 O 3 catalyst exhibited higher HDO selectivity towards the diesel-range alkanes. Detailed characterizations reveal that during the synthesis of Mo-Ni@Al 2 O 3 catalyst, the loaded Ni species were present in two forms after reduction in a H 2 flow, one is the closely contact of Ni and Mo bimetallic sites and the other is NiAl 2 O 4 , which enhances the synergistic promoting effect between Ni and Mo sites and inhibits the presence of isolated metallic Ni active sites, thereby exhibiting the enhanced remarkably HDO selectivity towards target products.

Solar power drived water splitting for hydrogen production is pivotal for sustainable energy conversion. Yet, it is challenging to develop earth abundant, high active, and durable electrodes to catalyzing hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) under fluctuating solar electricity. Herein we report self-supprted NiMo phosphate (NiMo-Pi) electrodes, where amorphous NiMo-Pi with nanosheets-like structure grow directly on conductive Ni foam by a facile one-step hydrothermal treatment. The electronic structures of Ni and Mo are tuned by O and P in NiMo-Pi electrodes, resulting the down-shift of their d -band centers. NiMo-Pi electrodes offer high activity and stability for HER, delivering -100 and -500 mA cm −2 mg cat −1 with overpotentials of 343 and 461 mV, repectively. They also sustain long-term electrolysis at a constant industrial-level current density of 500 mA cm −2 and at dynamic current densities ranging from -10 to -1 000 mA cm −2 . Their HER activity become higher after stability tests, benefitting from in-situ surface reconstruction. This reconstruction makes the surface rich in active higher-lying d -band centers. This work suggests that tuning the electronic structure of electrodes is an efficient way to design efficient and stable electrodes for HER under harsh conditions.

Photocatalytic H 2 O splitting by sulfide-based materials is a great challenge, because of the poor resilience of such materials against hole oxidation. Although sulfide ion of catalyst negatively shifts the valence band-edge relative to its oxide ion, the instability of sulfide ions during H 2 O oxidation is a critical obstacle to simultaneous evolution of H 2 and O 2 . Here, active, stable, and spherical nanoflower-like bimetal (Mo,Ni)(S,O) 3- x sulfo-oxide catalysts with a band gap of ∼2.1 eV and different concentrations of oxygen vacancy defects were synthesized for H 2 O splitting. (Mo,Ni)(S,O) 3- x of 25 mg with a suitable amount of oxygen vacancy defects could evolve 587.5 μmol/h H 2 under visible-light irradiation. This work demonstrated an example of converting an oxidation photocatalyst into a reduction one. Microstructure analysis showed that surface oxygen vacancy defects and the multiple-valence charges in Ni and Mo not only promoted effective separation, interface transfer, and reactions of photo-carriers but also reduced the charge build-up to avoid photo-corrosion during photocatalytic water decomposition.

The development of noble-metal-free electrocatalysts for water splitting is indispensable for the efficient production of hydrogen fuel. Herein, a Co-doped Ni-Mo phosphide nanorod arrays fabricated on porous Ni foam was shown to be an efficient binder-free electrocatalyst for water splitting. This catalyst featured exceptional activity, exhibiting an overpotential of 29 mV at a current density of 10 mA·cm −2 for the hydrogen evolution reaction, whereas the corresponding precatalyst exhibited an overpotential of 314 mV at a current density of 50 mA·cm −2 for the oxygen evolution reaction. The achieved electrocatalytic performance provided access to a simple water splitting system, affording a current density of 10 mA·cm −2 at 1.47 V in 1 M KOH electrolyte. Density functional theory results indicated that Co doping and phosphorization were responsible for the high electrocatalytic performance. Thus, this work paves the way for the development of novel noble-metal-free electrocatalysts for practical H 2 production via water splitting.

Highly efficient conversion of lignin to value-added liquid fuel or phenol monomers has attracted widespread attentions. The W-Ni-Mo/SEP trimetallic catalyst was firstly prepared and used for lignin catalytic depolymerization (LCD) under supercritical ethanol, which significantly ameliorated the problem of complex product compositions and poor cycle-stability in Mo/SEP. Characterization results confirmed that doping W and Ni metals led to the transformation of metallic oxide phases, and then increased oxygen vacancies (O V ), enhanced the metal-support interaction, and lowered acid site content. The experimental results revealed that W-Ni-Mo/SEP yielded 39.56% of lignin oil (LO) with 32.37 MJ/kg of HHV at 280 °C for 4 h. The selectivity to guaiacol and ethoxyphenol monomer was remarkably increased as compare with Mo/SEP. Furthermore, the W-Ni-Mo/SEP catalyst exhibited unique cycle stability and produced LO even increased to 41.41% after five LCD cycles. The possible reaction paths of lignin converted to guaiacol and ethoxyphenol over W-Ni-Mo/SEP were proposed. Brønsted-acid site promoted the self-activation of ethanol to form aliphatic products. The higher O V preferentially adsorbed phenol-intermediates containing dual oxygens and activated direct dealkylation to obtain guaiacol. The lower Lewis-acid site promoted the demethylation of methoxy in side-chains of phenol-intermediates and then interacted with free ethyl groups to form ethoxyphenol.

Abstract Bimetallic Au 3 M (M = Ni, Co, Fe) nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized by reducing a mixture of Au 3+ and metal cations (Ni 2+ , Co 2+ , Fe 3+ ) by butyllithium in the presence of oleylamine. Au 3 M NPs were then deposited onto a commercial SiO 2 support. The Au 3 M/SiO 2 samples were not particularly active in the catalytic reduction of p -nitrophenol unless they were converted into Au–MO

Hierarchical Mo-doped S/BiOCl (MSB) heterostructures were successfully prepared by a facile one-step reflux method. The resulting samples were evaluated by XRD , SEM, TEM , DRS and XPS . The results obtained showed that MSB possessed an outstanding photo and/or thermocatalytic performance under near room-temperature for removal of methylene blue (MB), reaching up to 99.9 and 96.5% for photo/thermocatalytic degradation (PTD) and thermocatalytic degradation (TD), respectively. The hole/radical scavenger tests indicated holes and free radial were both participated in PTD and TD reactions, but the holes formed from degradation reactions were strongly considered as the most influential impact on conducting PTD and TD patterns rather than free radicals. Furthermore, the kinetics regarding PTD and TD routes were also monitored, preferentially fitting to Langmuir–Hinshelwood behavior. Briefly, this study may provide new insights into fabricating hierarchical heterostructures by in-suit one-step approach for decontamination of organic pollutants separately using PTD or TD.

Seawater electrolysis is the most promising technology for hydrogen production, in which surface reconstruction on the interface of electrode/electrolyte plays a crucial role in activating the catalytic reactions with a low activation energy barrier. Herein, an efficient Mo modifying NiCoMo prickly flower clusters electrocatalyst supported on nickel foam (Mo-doped Ni/Co-OOH prickly flower clusters) is obtained, which serves as an eminently active and durable catalyst for both hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) due to the surface reconstruction during the alkaline seawater electrolysis with ultralow overpotentials. It just requires a cell voltage of 1.52 V to achieve the current density of 10 mA cm −2 for water electrolysis along with robust durability over 30 h. Mo doping effectively regulates the surface reconstruction of Ni/Co-OOH, which facilitates the adsorption of oxygen-containing intermediates on the active center, and the nonhomogeneous interface induces charge rearrangement for the catalytic process to improve efficiency, providing a new strategy for revealing the seawater electrolytic mechanism.

Treatment of molybdenum-containing wastewater is crucial for mitigating the environmental threat of Mo(VI) ions and recovering valuable metals. Compared to conventional separation methods, adsorbing colloid flotation emerges as a viable way to efficiently remove Mo(VI) ions. However, the current colloidal adsorption reagents have constrained the development of adsorbing colloid flotation due to their poor removal efficiency and narrow solution pH range. To overcome these challenges, Zr(IV) salts and La(III) salts were employed as colloidal adsorption reagents for the first time to remove Mo(VI) ions from wastewater in this work. In particular, the differences in removal efficiency of Mo(VI) ions between Zr(IV) salts, La(III) salts and traditional Fe(III) salts were systematically evaluated over a wide solution pH range. Zr(IV) salts demonstrated robust pH stability, displaying a significant removal efficiency of over 70.00% for Mo(VI) ions during the colloidal adsorption stage across a broad solution pH range from 3 to 11. Even more astonishingly, the removal efficiency of Mo(VI) ions was further enhanced through the synergistic effect of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) during the flotation separation stage. Under the optimal conditions of bubble flotation, the solution turbidity decreased rapidly from 164.50 NTU to 3.33 NTU, and the removal efficiency of Mo(VI) ions reached an impressive 99.10% which was enhanced by 23.73% compared to the colloidal adsorption stage. In conclusion, Zr(IV) salts, serving as colloidal adsorption reagents, have overcome the limitations of traditional colloidal adsorption reagents and exhibit significant potential for the removal of Mo(VI) ions from wastewater.

In this study, we have proposed an electrochemiluminescence (ECL) signal amplification system which is based on two-dimensional (2D) flower-like CdS@Co/Mo-MOF composites as a co-reaction accelerator of the g-C3N4/S2O82−system for ultrasensitive detection of chlorpromazine hydrochloride (CPH). Specifically, the 2D flower-like Co/Mo-MOF with mesoporous alleviated the aggregation of CdS NPs while simultaneously fostering reactant-active site contact and improving the reactant–product transport rate. This allowed the material to act as a novel co-reaction accelerator, speeding up the transformation of the S2O82−into SO4•−and enhancing the cathodic ECL emission of g-C3N4. Moreover, the signal probe which was synthesized by coupling the 2D CdS@Co/Mo-MOF and graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) achieved the generation of SO4•−in situ and reduced energy loss. The results confirmed that the ECL signal was enhanced 6.2-fold and stabilized by CdS@Co/Mo-MOF. Based on the extremely strong quenching effect of chlorpromazine hydrochloride (CPH) on this system, a “signal-off” type sensor was constructed. The sensor demonstrated excellent sensitivity and linear response to CPH concentrations ranging from 1 pmol L−1to 100 μmol L−1, with a low detection limit of 0.4 pmol L−1(S/N = 3).

Si-B-Mo-Y modified SiC/SiC composites were prepared by reactive melt infiltration (RMI) process to study their high-temperature water-oxygen corrosion resistance, and to compare them with SiC/SiC composites prepared by RMI using Si. The results show that the corrosion rates of the modified composites are only 1/9, 1/10 and 1/3 of those of the comparison samples at 1200°C, 1300°C and 1400°C, respectively, which is attributed to the higher densification of the modified composites. More importantly, the modified composites were able to form borosilicates, which effectively healed the oxide film defects; meanwhile, yttrium silicate inhibited the reaction between borosilicates and water vapor.

Ultrathin Mo-HNb3O8 nanosheets were synthesized by a facile hydrothermal process. Introducing low-valence Mo and oxygen vacancies into the pristine HNb3O8 nanosheets can modulate the band structure and induce the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) to increase the charge-carrier densities and produce hot carriers derived from the non-radiative decay of LSPR, which not only efficiently promotes the separation and transfer of photo-generated carriers, but also improves the high utilization rate of solar energy in photothermal catalytic hydrogen evolution in the full solar spectrum. The optimized MoNb-10 exhibits the highest H2 evolution rate (220.4 μmol h−1 g−1), which is approximately 7.7 times higher than that of the HNb3O8 nanosheet. The current work not only deepens our understanding of LSPR effects generated from the Mo dopant and OVs on the surface of transition metal oxide nanosheets, but also provides clues for exploring new photothermal catalysts to promote future solar energy conversion.
