Pd–Pt nanodendrites were synthesized by a facile, environment-friendly, one-pot wet-chemical method, without using any seed, template, or toxic organic solvent. The as-obtained bimetallic nanocrystals exhibited efficient catalytic activity toward ligand-free Suzuki cross-coupling reaction in ethanol aqueous solution. A series of biphenyl compounds were obtained with high yields under mild conditions. Furthermore, the catalyst could be easily recovered and reused at least 6 consecutive cycles, nearly without losing its catalytic activity.

An amperometric nonenzymatic biosensor for sensitive and selective detection of glucose has been developed by using reduced graphene oxide/ultrasmall platinum nanowire nanocomposites (rGO-PtNW) as electrode material. rGO-PtNW displays good electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of glucose in alkaline solution. The fabricated biosensor shows good analytical performance including low detection limit (4.6 μmol/L), wide linear range (0.032-1.89 mmol/L), high sensitivity (56.11 μA·(mmol/L) -1 ·cm -2 ), and good anti-interfering ability towards species (uric acid and ascorbic acid) coexisting with glucose in human blood at the work potential of 0 V. It indicated that rGO-PtNW nanocomposite can serve as a promising candidate material for high-performance glucose nonenzymatic biosensors.

Hydrogenation of 1,3-butadiene over supported Pt particles has long been known as a structure sensitive reaction, yet the nature of this phenomenon has not been well understood. We have previously addressed the reaction pathway for 1,3-butadiene hydrogenation over ∼22 nm Pt particles. In this study, the behaviors of SiO2 supported ∼2.9 nm Pt particles towards 1,3-butadiene hydrogenation have been investigated with the aim of providing a fundamental explanation for the structure sensitivity of this reaction. Interestingly, it was found that the product distribution for the present catalyst towards 1,3-butadiene hydrogenation was sensitive to temperature. However, the evolution of 1,3-butadiene hydrogenation over the catalyst with temperature was not captured by in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT) spectroscopy. The detected carbonaceous species on the Pt surface are more likely to be spectators rather than reaction intermediates for the formation of butenes and n-butane. To understand the behaviors of the catalyst, density functional theory (DFT) calculations were employed to explore the pathways for the formation of the products with low activation barriers. The results show that the coverage and the location of the hydrogen atom are the two key factors for the interpretation of the behavior of Pt particles towards 1,3-butadiene hydrogenation.

High-performance piezoelectric materials are widely used in electromechanical applications such as sensors, actuators, and transducers. Herein, improvement in electrical properties of Pb(Ni 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 −Pb(In 1/2 Nb 1/2 )O 3 −PbTiO 3 relaxor ferroelectrics by modulating the polymorphism of nano-scale domain is reported, and piezoelectric coefficients d 33 and d 33 * as high as 948 pC/N and 1108 pm/V, respectively, are achieved. The high piezoelectric response is elucidated by combining cryogenic dielectric , Rayleigh analysis, and scanning electron microscopy with piezoresponse force microscope. During the transition from the tetragonal to rhombohedral phase, the morphology of the ferroelectric domains changes significantly, mesoscopic domain destruction is observed, and thus nano-scale domains appear as an extrinsic contribution of piezoelectricity. In addition, nano-scale domains promote polarization rotation, thus, improving the piezoelectric response. The improved piezoelectric performance demonstrates good thermal stability, retaining the inverse piezoelectric coefficient of approximately 1000 pm/V near 70 °C. This work provides a good example of improving ceramics' piezoelectric response by modulating the polymorphism of nanoscale domains.

We successfully fabricated an atomically dispersed dual-atom catalyst featuring Pt 1 -Ru 1 sites anchored on defective graphene (Pt 1 Ru 1 /ND@G).
Pt 1 Ru 1 /ND@G achieves a high turnover frequency of 17.6 × 10 −2 s −1 for CO oxidation at 30 °C, which is 10 times higher than Pt 1 /ND@G and demonstrates outstanding performance compared with the previous reports.
Pt-Ru bond enhances the metallicity of both Pt and Ru atoms, facilitating the simultaneous adsorption and activation of CO and O 2 and overcoming the limitations of single-atom catalysts.

Pt-based catalysts supported on acidic zeolites are intensively utilized for selective hydrogenation reactions; yet the interplay between zeolite acidity and metal sites remains important research topics, because zeolites feature adjustable acidity (Brønsted/Lewis), strong (hydrothermal-)stability, and highly-ordered porosity for nanoconfinement and shape selectivity. This study systematically identifies the contribution of Brønsted (B) acids and Lewis (L) acid sites in Pt/USY catalysts tailored by controlled introduction of diethoxydimethylsilane (DEDMS, 0-5.0% wt) for phenol hydrogenation to cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone. The modification declined B acid sites (from 145.8 over 1%Pt/USY-1 to 14.7 μmol/g over 1%Pt/5.0%DEDMS-USY) and L acid sites (from 129.3 to 38.4 μmol/g). The reduction in B acid sites considerably suppressed phenol adsorption and thus decreased its conversion from 100% (1%Pt/USY-1) to 19.0% (1%Pt/5.0%DEDMS-USY-1), and the reduction in L acid sites primarily suppressed the cyclohexanone adsorption and thus increased its selectivity from being undetectable (1%Pt/USY-1) to 57.7% (1%Pt/5.0%DEDMS-USY). The silylation could effectively tailor the catalytic activity and selectivity of Pt/USY catalysts and provides valuable insights for designing bifunctional catalysts in selective hydrogenation.

Pt-based catalysts remain the premier hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalysts for anion-exchange membrane water electrolyzers. Faced with insufficient abundance and high cost, developing low-Pt electrocatalysts that can accelerate the Volmer step while maintaining high durability is critically important yet challenging. Herein, we propose niobium nitrides with excellent conductivity and stability as supports for Pt to enhance the alkaline HER. A polyoxoniobate-based molecular self-assembly strategy was ingeniously designed to fabricate Nb 4 N 5 nanospheres, on which ultrafine Pt nanoparticles (NPs) were successfully immobilized, forming Pt/Nb 4 N 5 heterostructures (denoted as Pt/Nb 4 N 5 ). The rich interface structures with metal–support interactions drive charge transfer from Pt to Nb 4 N 5 , which modulates the electronic structure of Pt and Nb sites, collectively lowering interfacial charge transfer resistance, generating abundant active sites, and improving catalyst durability. Consequently, the Pt/Nb 4 N 5 catalyst achieves exceptional HER performance, including a low overpotential (22 mV@10 mA cm −2 ), a small Tafel slope (26 mV dec −1 ), an 11.5-fold higher mass activity at 150 mV, and remarkable durability, drastically surpassing the commercial Pt/C catalyst. Notably, the Pt/Nb 4 N 5 -based electrolyzer requires only 1.508 V to drive 10 mA cm −2 . This work offers a viable pathway to engineer highly active and durable low-Pt electrocatalysts for energy-related applications.

Hydrolysis of cellulose to produce ethanol has become an effective way to utilize biological resources, but its large-scale industrial application has been limited. In this study, a one-pot catalytic conversion process for transforming cellulose into ethanol was developed. Meanwhile, multifunctional Mo/Pt/WOx/Al2O3catalysts were prepared by loading nano-alumina (Nano-Al2O3) via a stepwise impregnation method. The influence of catalysts with varying metal ratios on the types of products generated during the cellulose hydrolysis process to ethanol was examined. The catalyst with 0.1% Mo, 2% Pt, and 7.5% W loadings showed the best selectivity. With an ethanol yield of 45.3% after heating at 5 MPa H2and 518 K for 2 h. Nano-Al2O3can provide suitable active sites. The addition of W5+and Mo0increased the surface oxygen vacancy density and enhanced the hydrodeoxidation and metal anchoring capacity of the catalyst. The solid solution structure facilitates electron transfer from W and Mo atoms to Pt atoms, forming electron-rich Ptδ-species, promoting the hydrolysis of cellulose and the formation of ethanol.

Halide perovskites exhibit exceptional optoelectronic properties, including strong light absorption and efficient generation of photogenerated charge carriers. However, these advantages are extremely limited in electrocatalytic systems, and their full potential remains largely unexplored. In particular, the underlying mechanisms governing light-assisted electrocatalysis in perovskite materials remain poorly understood. Herein, a Pt-modified Cs2PdBr6 all-inorganic halide perovskite (Cs2PdBr6@Pt1.5) is designed, which achieves a low overpotential of 11 mV at 10 mA cm–2 with excellent water stability. Femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy further demonstrates that the incorporation of Pt increases the population of transient species (<1 ps) and acts as an efficient charge separation channel, thereby promoting charge migration to catalytic active sites and enhancing hydrogen evolution reaction properties. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that electrons transfer from Cs2PdBr6 to Pt, and Pt-modified Cs2PdBr6 optimizes the adsorption energies of key reaction intermediates, thereby lowering the overpotential for water splitting. These findings highlight the potential of halide perovskites as a stable and efficient platform for light-assisted electrocatalytic water splitting and related energy conversion processes.

Soluble catalysts that are readily blended with fuels render significant potentials in long-term storage and engine compatibility to improve ignition and combustion reliability under demanding conditions. However, the mechanistic role of such additives under droplet combustion scenarios that involve evaporation-reaction coupling remains unclear. In this study, single-droplet combustion experiments were conducted using RP-3 aviation kerosene doped with two different soluble catalysts, palladium acetylacetonate (Pd(acac) 2 ) and platinum acetylacetonate (Pt(acac) 2 ), over a range of ppm-level concentrations. Ignition delay time, burning rate and droplet lifetime were systematically quantified to elucidate the influence of catalysts on the fuel combustion behaviors. A stage-resolved analysis was conducted to differentiate ignition onset from quasi-steady burning. The results revealed that both catalysts improve ignition and combustion performance, yet exhibit distinct catalytic roles governed by their thermochemical properties and oxidation states. Earlier ignition is promoted by Pd(acac) 2 due to its low-temperature sublimation and the formation of catalytically active Pd and PdO. The former, however, also competes with the fuel for oxygen at the flame front, inducing an inhibiting effect on droplet burning. These effects together result in a non‑monotonic concentration dependence of the burning rate. In contrast, steadier burning is sustained by Pt(acac) 2 through its stable metallic state Pt. These findings clarify how catalyst decomposition characteristics and oxidation-state stability govern ignition onset and subsequent burning behavior. The present study provides mechanistic insights into fuel-catalyst interactions and guidance for developing fuel-soluble additives to enhance ignition reliability and combustion efficiency in advanced aero-engine systems. Novelty and significance statement This study advances the understanding of fuel-soluble noble-metal catalytic additives by revealing how their transient physicochemical evolution affects single-droplet combustion behaviors. By comparatively resolving the thermochemical evolution of two catalysts, this work demonstrates that decomposition pathways, oxidation-state stability, and catalytic activity collectively modulate stage-specific responses during droplet evaporation, ignition and burning. This stage-resolved perspective moves beyond treating soluble catalysts as static combustion enhancers and clarifies the intrinsic coupling between catalyst evolution and droplet combustion. These mechanistic insights establish transferable principles for the rational design of next-generation fuel-soluble catalytic additives and support an engine-compatible strategy for enhancing high-altitude ignition reliability and combustion efficiency without structural modifications to existing aero-engines. In addition, a U-Net-based deep learning framework is introduced for automatic droplet contour recognition, enabling accurate and efficient droplet combustion diagnostics.

Platinum-based electrocatalysts have been widely used in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) because of their excellent oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity. However, rapid corrosion and structural instability of conventional carbon supports severely limit the long-term operation and commercialization of PEMFCs. In this work, a three-dimensional composite support was constructed by integrating single-layer Ti3C2Tx (SL-Ti3C2Tx) with carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The one-dimensional tubular CNTs served as interlayer spacers and conductive skeletons between MXene nanosheets, thereby effectively suppressing sheet restacking and enabling the construction of Pt-based catalysts with well-defined three-dimensional architectures. Strong interfacial interaction between the composite support and Pt nanoparticles further enhanced the intrinsic electrocatalytic activity of the catalyst. The optimized Pt/Ti3C2Tx-CNT (2:1) catalyst exhibited excellent ORR activity, with an electrochemically active surface area (ECSA) of 247 m2 g−1, which was 3.1 times that of Pt/C, and a mass activity (MA) of 0.69 A mgPt−1, which was 8 times that of Pt/C. After 30 000 accelerated durability test cycles, Pt/Ti3C2Tx-CNT (2:1) retained approximately 79% of its ECSA and 83% of its MA, demonstrating excellent durability and corrosion resistance. The enhanced performance was mainly attributed to the unique three-dimensional Ti3C2Tx-CNT framework, which simultaneously improved Pt utilization, charge/mass transport, and support stability. This study provides a promising material system for high-performance PEMFC cathode catalysts and offers useful guidance for the rational design of durable electrocatalyst supports.

Design of active but stable interfaces in supported metal catalysts represents an emerging research theme lately, given its critical importance for tailoring and enabling selectivity and efficiency of heterogeneous reactions. Herein, we report a generic sunlight-driven epitaxial growth strategy to engineer catalytically active interfacial perimeters defined by subnanometric Pt dispersed on TiO 2 nanoparticle supports. Such interfacial perimeters are populated with a unique type of Pt 4+ -O-Ti 3+ reactive sites, resulting in much more efficient and robust CO oxidation than most supported Pt catalysts reported so far. These subnanometric PtO x -TiO 2 interfacial structures are found to dynamically evolve during CO oxidation, adaptively optimizing their adsorption behaviors toward reactants and SO 2 . Combined with the activated interfacial lattice oxygen species via the electronic metal-support interaction effect, the Mars-van Krevelen pathway is activated at low temperature to oxidize CO at high conversion efficiency. The sunlight-driven synthetic strategy is successfully extended to other metal catalysts supported by metal oxide and perovskite materials, offering a new paradigm for designing adaptive catalysts toward a variety of heterogeneous catalytic reactions.
