SnO 2 stands as a prominently employed material as electron transport layer (ETL) for perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Nevertheless, SnO 2 films prepared at low temperatures are accompanied by defects that will influent the transport of carriers at the interface, misalignment of energy levels, and the quality of thin perovskite film formation. Here, we introduce 4-aminobenzoic acid ethyl ester (4-AN), characterized by its carbonyl (C O) and amino (-NH 2 ) groups, as a synergistic defect passivation agent on the surfaces of SnO 2 and perovskite films. This approach aims to enhance the electron transport properties of SnO 2 . By optimizing the energy alignment between SnO 2 and perovskite, 4-AN facilitates more efficient extraction of interfacial carriers, while also promoting the crystalline quality of perovskite films and suppressing carrier recombination at the interface. The long alkyl chains at the end play an important role in relieving the interfacial contact and help to enhance the SnO 2 /perovskite interfacial connection. Compared with pristine SnO 2 , the PSCs based on 4-AN modified SnO 2 obtained an optimal efficiency of 21.83 %, while the devices maintained 90 % and 83 % of their initial PCE after storage for 1000 h in an N 2 environment and humidity of 30–50 %. This work provides valid insights for the development of novel interface modification materials.

Tin oxide (SnO 2 ) with high specific capacity and excellent safety performance has become potential candidate for next generation lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, the practical application of SnO 2 is hindered by large volume change and particle aggregation. Herein, a type of three-dimensional (3D) hierarchical porous titanium-based microclews composed of one-dimensional (1D) titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) nanoribbons and SnO 2 nanoparicles, is synthesized for the first time with the assistance of cationic surfactant , cetyltrimethylammonium bromidewere (CTAB). SnO 2 nanoparticles distribute uniformly on the nanoribbons, and CTAB as growth controller plays a key role in the formation of the uniform and stable hierarchical-structure. The as-synthesized CTAB assisted hierarchical-structure TiO 2 @SnO 2 microclews (CA–TiO 2 @SnO 2 MCs) elelctrode demonstrates outstanding ionic conductivity due to the structure assisting efficient contact between electrode and electrolyte, with a remarkable discharge capacity of 448.3 mAh g −1 after cycling for 500 times at a current density of 500 mA g −1 , and a capacity retention of 558.8 mAh g −1 at 200 mA g −1 after 400 cycles in LIBs.

This research paper tackles the cross-sensitivity problem commonly encountered in metal oxide semiconductor gas sensors by suggesting a heterojunction structure to improve their overall gas-sensing performance. Pure-phase In 2 O 3 nanocubes and In 2 O 3 /SnO 2 heterojunction composites were effectively synthesized via a one-pot hydrothermal method, and their sensing properties towards formaldehyde gas were systematically investigated. The experimental findings indicate that, in comparison with the pure In 2 O 3 sensor, the In 2 O 3 /SnO 2 heterojunction sensor displays significantly higher response values to formaldehyde at the same operating temperature, along with more rapid response and recovery rates. Additionally, this heterojunction sensor demonstrates excellent selectivity for formaldehyde, retaining its high selectivity even in the presence of various interfering gases. This study offers a feasible approach for the development of highly sensitive, selective, and rapidly responsive formaldehyde gas sensors, and provides a valuable reference for the progress of gas sensor technology.

Antimony sulfide (Sb₂S₃) is a highly promising environmentally friendly semiconductor for the development of stable thin-film solar cells, owing to its high absorption coefficient, suitable bandgap ( ~ 1.7 eV), and the abundance of its constituent elements. Conventionally, CdS is employed as a buffer layer in CdS/Sb₂S₃/spiro/Au-structured solar cells. However, due to its intrinsic defects, various strategies have been implemented to enhance device performance and improve the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of Sb₂S₃ solar cells. In this study, we first fabricated a SnO₂ electron transport layer (ETL) and subsequently optimized the water bath temperature to achieve a smoother CdS layer. Furthermore, a La³⁺ ion doping process was introduced to further decrease the resistance of the CdS layer. The incorporation of an appropriate concentration of La³⁺ into the CdS layer effectively redeced its resistivity. By integrating these enhancements, we developed a La-doped CdS/SnO₂ double ETL structure. The grain size of Sb₂S₃ deposited on the 1% La-doped CdS/SnO₂ double ETL was significantly increased, leading to a substantial reduction in grain boundary density. This improvement minimized non-radiative recombination at both the grain boundaries and the CdS/Sb₂S₃ heterointerface while simultaneously enhancing charge-carrier transport across the heterojunction. Consequently, the optimized solar cell achieved an open-circuit voltage (V OC ) of 749 mV and a short-circuit current density (J s c ) of 17.01 mA/cm 2 , resulting in a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 7.66%. This work presents an effective doping strategy to enhance the performance of the CdS buffer layer, offering valuable insights for the advancement of Sb₂S₃-based thin-film solar cells. In this work, a strategy is proposed to overcome the efficiency limitations of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) through the hydrothermal construction of three-dimensional SnO 2 nanosphere photoanodes. By investigating the influence of hydrothermal temperature on the morphology evolution, crystallinity, and optoelectronic properties of SnO 2 . The SnO 2 substrate synthesized at 160°C exhibits a well-defined nanosphere morphology with an average diameter of approximately 500 nm, high crystallinity, and a wide bandgap of 3.67 eV, which collectively facilitate efficient charge separation and suppress carrier recombination. Furthermore, an ultrathin TiO 2 interfacial layer is introduced to construct a heterojunction architecture, thereby optimizing the interfacial energetics and accelerating charge transfer. As a result, the optimized device achieves a champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 4.23%, accompanied by a remarkably reduced charge-transfer resistance of 12.91 Ω and an extended electron lifetime of 40.1 ms. Moreover, the device retains approximately 70% of its initial efficiency after continuous illumination for 30 days, demonstrating substantially improved operational stability. This work provides an effective strategy for overcoming the intrinsic limitations of SnO 2 photoanodes. Graphical SnO 2 nanospheres were synthesized by the hydrothermal method and applied to dye-sensitized solar cells, and the power conversion efficiency was 4.23%.

The highly sensitive and rapid detection of n-butanol holds great significance for environmental protection and human health. In this study, Ag-decorated ZnO/SnO 2 (AZSO) nanofibers were fabricated via electrospinning followed by an Ag decoration process. Compared with the undecorated ZnO/SnO 2 nanofibers (ZSO), the as-prepared AZSO sensor exhibited enhanced gas-sensing performance, as its response to 30 ppm n-butanol increased from 29.68 to 37.15. Meanwhile, at the optimal operating temperature of 150 °C, it demonstrates an ultra-fast response time of only 1 s, and its recovery time is drastically shortened from 1776 s to 227 s. In addition, AZSO exhibited stronger selectivity towards n-butanol, accompanied by excellent repeatability and long-term stability. The enhanced gas-sensing performance of AZSO was attributed to the synergistic effect of the Ag spillover effect, the ZnO/SnO 2 n-n heterojunction, and the interfacial electron transfer.

Conventional n–i–p architecture remains a robust platform for scalable perovskite photovoltaics 1 , 2 , yet its steady-state efficiency has stagnated at about 26% (ref. 3 ), lagging behind their p–i–n counterparts 4 . This performance gap arises from persistent non-radiative recombination at textured electron transport layer (ETL)/perovskite interfaces, yet the underlying physical origin remains unknown. Here we show that these losses originate from the synergistic combination of band misalignment and electron accumulation at the buried interface. To address this dual challenge, we develop a continuously graded n + /n-doped SnO 2 ETL through a ligand-competitive binding strategy, which enables spatially defined doping that creates a built-in electric field. This graded architecture simultaneously minimizes band offset and accelerates electron extraction, thereby effectively suppressing the cross-interface recombination. The resulting n–i–p perovskite solar cells (PSCs) achieve a certified steady-state power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 27.17% (27.50% in reverse scan), the highest for n–i–p PSCs reported so far. The scalability of this strategy is further demonstrated by achieving a PCE of 25.79% for a 1 cm 2 device and 23.33% for a perovskite module with a 16.02 cm 2 aperture area. This work establishes a generalized example for energy-band engineering in metal-oxide transport layers, overcoming a fundamental efficiency bottleneck in conventional perovskite photovoltaics.

For metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) gas sensors, achieving rapid and highly sensitive responses at room temperature (RT) remains a significant challenge. In this study, Ni-doped SnO 2 nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized via a sol-gel method. The incorporation of nickel ions substantially enhanced the RT NO 2 sensing performance of SnO 2 . At an optimal doping concentration (5 at%), the SnO 2 NPs exhibited high sensitivity, excellent selectivity, and good stability, with a nearly 120-fold enhancement in sensor response. The excellent sensor performance can be attributed to the fact that when Ni 2 + enters the SnO 2 lattice and replaces Sn 4+ , it disrupts the defect balance in the SnO 2 lattice. The presence of Ni 2+ in the SnO 2 crystal captures free electrons in the sensitive material, forming oxygen ions and oxygen vacancies, which alters the defect balance of the gas-sensitive element and promotes the adsorption of NO 2 on the SnO 2 surface. This doping strategy effectively lowered the operating temperature of SnO 2 , enabling reliable NO 2 detection under RT conditions. Additionally, the experimental detection limit of the sensor reached as low as 100 ppb, far below the threshold of 200 ppb recommended by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH). This work provides an effective sensitization strategy for developing RT gas sensors.

Polyoxometalates (POMs), as a kind of electron acceptors , comes into sight in gas sensing field. Here, we in situ construct a group of polyoxomethoate/semiconductor one-dimensional tandem heterojunction materials using convenient one-step coaxial electrospinning method . A polyoxometalates electron acceptor layer was intercalated into In 2 O 3 @SnO 2 nanofibers (NFs), forming In 2 O 3 @PW 12 @SnO 2 coaxial core-middle-shell NFs. Gas sensing performances of the one-dimensional In 2 O 3 @PW 12 @SnO 2 tandem heterojunctions were investigated for the first time. The fabricated NFs exhibited excellent detection performances for ethanol gas. The optimal sensitivity response to 100 ppm ethanol can reach 22.6, which is about 4 times that of POMs-free samples. Other gas sensing parameters were also comprehensively studied. The significant enhancement can be attributed to the addition of appropriate amount of PW 12 electron acceptor which accelerate electrons transfer and reduce the recombination of electron-hole pairs. This work provides a novel strategy for developing high performance gas sensors by constructing tandem heterojunctions as well as introducing POMs electron acceptor, and offers new insight into the development of POMs-based gas sensors.

Hollow SnO 2 nanotubes were prepared via electrospinning and integrated with a simple gas sensor for the detection of hazardous 3-vinylpyridine(3-EP) in environmental settings. Benefiting from the hollow nanotube structure, the sensor provides a large surface area for gas adsorption, significantly enhancing the response value and reducing the operating temperature. At the optimal temperature of 240 °C and a gas concentration of 50 ppm, the response value reaches 21.13. The detection limit is 0.5 ppm, response time, and desorption time are 17 s and 22 s. This study provides a reference for the detection of harmful 3-EP in environmental monitoring.

The gas pollutant of Nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ) can have a severe impact on human respiratory systems, with a potential threat to human health. Therefore, a NO 2 sensor is necessary to be implemented to have the information on exhaled low concentrations of NO 2 emitted from different sources. In this work, the tellurium nanotubes (Te NT) based heterojunction with SnO 2 nanoparticles (TeNT/SnO 2 ) for detecting ppb-level NO 2 at room temperature was developed. The TeNT /SnO 2 sensor exhibits a better response (25.3 %), and faster response time (32 s) to 600 ppb of NO 2 in comparison to pristine Te NT based sensors (7.9 % and 154 s). The promoted sensing properties including selectivity, signal repeatability, and long-term stability could be attributed to the formation of TeNT/SnO 2 heterojunctions. The density function theory (DFT) in accordance with the first principle was conducted to calculate the adsorption ability of the TeNT/SnO 2 heterojunctions. It indicates that the TeNT/SnO 2 heterojunctions facilitated the adsorption of oxygen (-0.635 eV) and NO 2 (-1.533 eV) in comparison to Te NT.
