To overcome the limited elevated-temperature strength typical of fusion-based additive manufacturing, near-fully dense Ti-6Al-4V specimens were fabricated via solid-state additive friction stir deposition (AFSD). The process induced a pronounced microstructural gradient, with grain sizes ranging from 4.76 μm at the top (dominated by continuous dynamic recrystallization) to 7.62 μm at the bottom (driven by intrinsic thermal cycles). Crucially, the formation of a non-equilibrium substructure—comprising high-density dislocations, stable subgrain boundaries, and deformation twins—contributed to the deformation response through the combined effects of dislocation slip, substructural strengthening, and local strain accommodation. Benefiting from grain refinement and multiple AFSD-induced substructural features, including dislocation accumulation, stable subgrain boundaries, and interface-associated lattice distortion, the as-deposited alloy exhibited superior yield strength compared with the rolled base material at room and intermediate temperatures (400–600 °C). Notably, at 700 °C, the AFSD-processed alloy exhibited a pronounced increase in ductility, with elongation exceeding 140%. This superplastic-like high-temperature response is associated with the fine-grained α/β microstructure and the deformation-induced evolution of a continuous β-phase network, which may enhance interfacial strain accommodation and delay localized failure. Overall, these results suggest that AFSD-induced microstructural and substructural modification provides a promising route for improving the elevated-temperature performance of dual-phase titanium alloys.

A Ti 4+ -doped NiFe-LDH was employed as an electrocatalyst. • It requires overpotentials of 243 and 263 mV at 50 mA cm −2 in 1 M KOH and seawater. • Ti 4+ doping modulates the LDH electronic structure, activating the lattice oxygen mechanism. • This modulation significantly improves both electrocatalytic activity and long-term stability. The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is kinetically sluggish and unstable, severely limiting its efficiency in water electrolysis, particularly in seawater. Here, we report the growth of Ti-doped NiFe layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanosheets on nickel foam (NF) via a one-step hydrothermal synthesis. The introduction of high-valent Ti 4+ cations effectively modulates the local electronic configuration of the NiFe-LDH host, thereby tending to promote the lattice oxygen mechanism (LOM) and fundamentally accelerate the OER kinetics. Consequently, the optimal Ti 0.1 NiFe-LDH/NF catalyst exhibits an overpotential of only 243 mV at 50 mA cm −2 in 1 M KOH, with a Tafel slope of 63.4 mV dec −1 . Importantly, it demonstrates exceptional operational durability, maintaining a current density of 50 mA cm −2 for more than 100 h with a minimal potential increase of just 7 mV. In alkaline seawater, the Ti-doped catalyst shows superior activity and corrosion resistance relative to its undoped counterpart, underscoring its potential for direct seawater electrolysis. This study elucidates the critical role of cation doping in activating the LOM pathway through optimization of the electronic configuration, and offers an effective strategy for developing high-performance and highly stable OER electrocatalysts for both freshwater and seawater splitting. The dielectric properties of titanate-based microwave ceramics are usually degraded by oxygen vacancies induced by prolonged sintering at high temperature. In this study, the activation sintering and improvement of dielectric properties for 0.7CaTi 1-x O 3 -0.3NdAlO 3 ceramics could be achieved by slight adjusting the stoichiometric ratio of Ti 4+ ions at B-site (CTNA, x = 0.0000, 0.0025, 0.0050, 0.0075). As x increasing from 0.0000 to 0.0050, the relative densities, maximum densification rate, and maximum densification rate temperature all increase. This is attributed to the generation of oxygen vacancy defects that can facilitate atomic diffusion. When x further increase to 0.0075, even though the number of oxygen vacancies continues to increase, the substitution of Nd 3+ with larger ionic radius (1.27 Å) at B-site, compared to Ti 4+ (0.605 Å), induce significant lattice distortion. Consequently, the relative densities of CTNA ceramics (x = 0.0075) remains comparable to that of CTNA ceramics (x = 0.0050). The substitution of Ti 4+ by smaller Al 3+ (0.535 Å) at B-site in CTNA ceramics (x = 0.0050) result in a reduced lattice constant and unti cell volume, which is conducive to the reduction of intrinsic loss and the improvement of dielectric properties: ε r = 45.92; Q × f = 43,900 GHz, and τ f = 2.88 ppm/°C.

Materials tunable between heavy-fermion metals and antiferromagnetic insulators near quantum criticality are promising candidates for exploring unconventional superconductivity, yet such a behavior is rare in transition metal oxides. Here, we report the high-pressure synthesis and characterization of two Pb-based $A$-site ordered perovskites, ${\mathrm{PbCu}}_{3}{\mathrm{Ru}}_{4}{\mathrm{O}}_{12}$ and ${\mathrm{PbCu}}_{3}{\mathrm{Ti}}_{4}{\mathrm{O}}_{12}$, which are characterized as a heavy-fermion metal and an antiferromagnetic insulator, respectively. Systematic $B$-site substitution in ${\mathrm{PbCu}}_{3}{\mathrm{Ru}}_{4\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Ti}}_{x}{\mathrm{O}}_{12}$ ($x=0\ensuremath{-}4$) reveals a continuous evolution of electronic and magnetic properties, with intermediate compositions exhibiting divergent low-temperature specific heat, indicative of proximity to a quantum critical point. The experimental observation supported by density functional theory calculations reveal that ${\mathrm{PbCu}}_{3}{\mathrm{Ru}}_{4}{\mathrm{O}}_{12}$ exhibits more enhanced effective mass than ${\mathrm{CaCu}}_{3}{\mathrm{Ru}}_{4}{\mathrm{O}}_{12}$, attributed to its enhanced Fermi-level density of states and narrower bandwidth, driven by the elongated Ru-O bonds and the covalent character of ${\mathrm{Pb}}^{2+}$. These results establish ${\mathrm{PbCu}}_{3}{\mathrm{Ru}}_{4\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Ti}}_{x}{\mathrm{O}}_{12}$ as a rare platform to study quantum criticality and strong correlations in transition-metal oxides and demonstrate that combine $A$-site and $B$-site tuning provides an effective route to tailor electronic and magnetic properties.

Successfully tailored a dual-site architecture comprising Cu + /Ni δ+ -O V -Ti and CuNi NPs on the ultra-small TiO 2 support-derived from MIL-125(Ti). • Deeply revealed the defect rich Cu + /Ni δ+ -O V -Ti site promotes CO 2 adsorption, while the CuNi NPs with electron redistribution facilitates H 2 adsorption and desorption of the product CO. • Significantly enhanced the RWGS reaction activity and sintering-resistance. Copper (Cu)-based catalysts hold promise for the reverse water-gas shift (RWGS) reaction because of their 100% selectivity toward CO. However, their low intrinsic activity, and deactivation caused by irreversible sintering during RWGS reaction remain persistent challenges. Herein, we report a pore adsorption strategy to simultaneously achieve electronic structure modulation and preserve microstructure stability during the RWGS reaction. Specifically, a MOF-derived TiO 2 -supported CuNi catalyst is constructed with dual active sites consisting of Cu + /Ni δ+ -O V -Ti sites and CuNi nanoparticles (NPs). The optimized catalytic performance achieves CO 2 conversion of 37.1% with CO selectivity of 99.9% and operates stably for 200 h at 450 ℃, placing its performance among the advanced Cu-based catalysts reported to date. Atomic/electronic structure characterization and density functional theory calculations demonstrate that Cu + /Ni δ+ -O V -Ti sites with enhanced charge redistribution capability promote CO 2 adsorption. The CuNi NP sites with electronic interaction enhance H 2 adsorption and moderate CO adsorption. This work provides a rational design strategy for highly active, selective and stable Cu-based RWGS catalysts. The separation of hexane isomers in petrochemical engineering is energy-intensive, driving the need for membrane-based alternatives to conventional thermal processes. Mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) offer a material platform by combining the processability of polymer matrices with the high structural tunability of porous fillers. In this work, we fabricate UiO-66-Tix/tPIM-1 MMMs by incorporating Ti-regulated bimetallic Zr/Ti-UiO-66 fillers into a thermally treated polymer of intrinsic microporosity (tPIM-1) matrix. At low Ti contents, the UiO-66-type crystallinity is largely preserved, while Ti introduction produces measurable changes in the pore characteristics and nHex/22DMB adsorption kinetics. Membrane-level sorption measurements show preferential nHex uptake, while adsorption-kinetic analysis and molecular dynamics simulations of both the isolated frameworks and the UiO-66-Ti 0.2 /tPIM-1 composite environment indicate stronger diffusion restriction toward bulky 22DMB than toward linear nHex. Collectively, these results support an adsorption–diffusion transport mechanism for the observed separation behavior. Among the Ti contents and filler loadings investigated, the selected 5 wt% UiO-66-Ti 0.2 /tPIM-1 membrane achieves a flux of 515 g·m −2 ·h −1 and a separation factor of 7.9 for nHex/22DMB separation. The membrane also maintained relatively stable performance during 84 h of continuous operation and preferentially enriched nHex from multicomponent C6 isomer mixtures, showing competitive separation performance among reported MMMs for hexane isomer separation. These results indicate that controlled Ti introduction provides a route to modify the pore characteristics of UiO-66 and improve nHex/22DMB discrimination in thermally treated PIM-1-based MMMs.

The ubiquitous presence of emerging contaminants (ECs) such as antibiotics and synthetic dyes in aquatic systems necessitates advanced remediation technologies. However, conventional polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes often suffer from severe fouling and rapid flux decline due to their inherent hydrophobicity, severely limiting their long-term applicability. This study presents the rational design of Ti-MOF/CN/PVDF composite membranes via integrated solvothermal synthesis of Ti-MOF/g-C 3 N 4 (CN) heterojunctions and nanoparticle-regulated phase inversion. Comprehensive characterization (XRD, XPS, SEM-EDS, BET, AFM) confirmed the successful fabrication of the heterojunction membrane. XPS and XRD analyses confirmed the formation of covalent bonds at the (Ti-O-N) interface and lattice strain induced by the nanoparticle filler, effectively suppressing PVDF crystallization. Ti-MOF/CN exhibits a unimodal particle size distribution (D50 ≈ 400 nm) and high BET specific surface area (72.44 m 2 g −1 ). Its uniform dispersion in PVDF increases the membrane pore size from 28.1 nm in pristine PVDF to 38.7 nm at 1 wt% Ti-MOF/CN, significantly enhancing the overall porosity. The top-performing M3 composite membrane demonstrated exceptional multifunctionality: it achieved retention rates exceeding 90% for multiple dyes (Rhodamine B, Methyl Blue, Malachite Green) and antibiotics (Tetracycline). Long-term retention experiments were conducted on complex wastewater containing mixed dyes, alongside photodegradation tests under simulated solar radiation conditions (AM 1.5G, 100 mW cm −2 ). Results indicate over 95% retention of mixed pollutants. Visible light irradiation significantly enhances the M3 membrane's FRR to 91.6%, further demonstrating the Ti-MOF/CN composite membrane's robust long-term operational stability and self-cleaning capability for photocatalytic degradation of aqueous pollutants.

In 2 S 3 forms a Z-scheme heterojunction with TiO 2 , broadening the light response range, improving ROS generation. • Photothermal-photodynamic synergy reduces the required photothermal temperature. • The TiO 2 / In 2 S 3 /Chitosan composite coating exhibits enhanced antibacterial activity. • The composite coating exhibits excellent biocompatibility. Implant-associated bacterial infections remain a major challenge in orthopedic and dental applications, often compromising implant integration and longevity. For this reason, the synergistic antibacterial strategy of photothermal and photocatalysis has become one of the important methods in the field of antibacterial. To synthesize high-efficiency near-infrared (NIR) light-responsive catalysts, a titanium oxide/indium sulfide (TiO 2 /In 2 S 3 ) heterojunction antibacterial coating was prepared on the titanium-based surface using anodic oxidation and wet chemical deposition methods. Compared with titanium alloy, the TiO 2 /In 2 S 3 heterojunction showed a suitable energy band structure, improved light absorption, and enhanced carrier separation capability, thus enhancing photothermal catalytic activity and promoting the production of bacterial reactive oxygen species under NIR light. Indeed, the TiO 2 /In 2 S 3 heterojunction narrowed the bandgap (~2.5 eV) and efficiently generated reactive oxygen species (•O₂⁻ and •OH) under NIR irradiation. Furthermore, the successful deposition of chitosan (CS) endowed the TiO 2 /In 2 S 3 heterojunction with osteogenic activity, promoting the proliferation and differentiation of osteoblasts. In vitro , results demonstrated effective antibacterial performance against Escherichia coli and S taphylococcus. aureus , inhibited biofilm formation, and supported collagen secretion and mineralization. In vivo , NIR irradiation raised the implant site temperature to below 50 °C, enabling safe and efficient sterilization, and showing no organ toxicity. These results highlight CS-coated TiO 2 /In 2 S 3 heterojunction as a promising multifunctional coating that combines infection control with osteogenic support, providing a potential strategy for improving the safety and longevity of titanium-based implants. Poly (amide acid) acts as an interfacial mediator via hydrogen bonding. • PZT content is increased by 2.8 times with an optimized PAA concentration of 8 wt%. • Sintered flexible GFF/PZT composite forms a continuous piezoelectric ceramic network. • The flexible sensor achieves high sensitivity and excellent durability. Flexible piezoelectric composites have attracted increasing interest for sensor applications. However, for flexible fiber-based piezoelectric composites, constructing a continuous ceramic network with high loading and robust interfacial bonding on the fiber fabric remains challenging. In this study, we fabricated flexible glass fiber fabric (GFF)/PZT piezoelectric composites. Poly (amide acid) (PAA) was introduced as a molecular mediator on the GFF, where PAA forms hydrogen bonds with the hydroxyl group and acetate groups of the PZT sol, enabling a 2.8-fold increase in PZT loading at an optimized PAA concentration of 8 wt%. The resulting GFF/PZT composite exhibits a continuous ceramic phase and retains good flexibility with a minimum bending radius of 15 mm. After encapsulation with interdigitated electrodes via epoxy resin (Ep), the GFF/PZT/Ep sensor achieves a minimum bending radius as low as 2.5 mm and exhibits enhanced electrical properties: a dielectric constant of 147, a low dielectric loss of 0.01 at 10 3 Hz, and an inverse piezoelectric coefficient of 119.5 p.m./V. As a bending sensor, it delivers a high sensitivity of 7.52 V per unit flexural strain and excellent durability over 1000 cycles. As a vibration sensor, it attains a sensitivity of 211.16 mV/g at 10 Hz and maintains stable output over 10,000 cycles. In this work, a unique three-dimensional (3D) network NiFeCoP@Ti₃C₂Tₓ composite, consisting of Co, Fe co-doped Ni 2 P (NiFeCoP) nanosheets anchored on Ti₃C₂Tₓ nanosheets via heterojunction, was situ constructed by phosphidizing the NiFeCo-LDH@Ti₃C₂Tₓ precursor. The 3D network structure establishes a 3D conductive network while generating a built-in electric field at the heterointerface, which efficiently accelerates electron/ion transport and simultaneously improves the structure stability of the electrode. DFT calculations demonstrate that Co doping further optimizes the electronic structure of NiFeCoP, introduces additional active sites, thereby promoting electrochemical reaction kinetics. Meanwhile, the synergistic effect among Ni, Fe, and Co with different redox potentials effectively buffers the volume changes during charge/discharge processes. Consequently, NiFeCoP@Ti₃C₂Tₓ as lithium ion batteries (LIBs) anode shows outstanding electrochemical performance at different current density (950 mAh/g after 340 cycles at 0.5 A/g, 816 mAh/g after 900 cycles at 1 A/g, 541 mAh/g after 1000 cycles at 2 A/g).

Lead-based ceramics with high energy storage and electrical capabilities are developed as high-performance materials for pulsed power systems. The (Pb, Cd, La)(Zr, Sn, Ti)O 3 (PCLZST) anti-ferroelectric ceramics attract significant attention as energy storage materials. In this work, ceramics (Pb 0.97- x Cd x La 0.02 )(Zr 0.93 Sn 0.05 Ti 0.02 )O 3 ( x = 0.01, 0.015, 0.02 and 0.025) have been prepared using a solid-state method, and their dielectric and energy storage characteristics are investigated. The results indicate that Cd 2+ doping at the A-site effectively suppresses grain growth, leading to a minimum average grain size of 1.24 μm in PCLZST ceramics. The PCLZST ceramics exhibit orthorhombic phases and high relaxation factors, confirming their excellent antiferroelectric nature. Notably, the energy storage density of PCLZST ceramics is 10.09 J/cm 3 , the recoverable energy storage density is 7.79 J/cm 3 , and the discharge time is 0.102 μs reflecting optimal comprehensive performance. These findings emphasize the efficacy of Cd-doped PLZST ceramics in advanced energy storage and pulse power systems, underscoring their potential to drive future technological advancements.

Developing lithium-ion batteries with high specific energy and fast-charging capability requires overcoming the potential-capacity trade-off in negative electrodes. Conventional fast-charging materials (e.g., Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 , TiNb 2 O 7 ) operate at high potentials (>1.5 V vs. Li + /Li) to circumvent lithium plating, yet this compromises specific energy. A viable strategy for enhancing the specific energy is to reduce the potential while avoiding the lithium plating risk; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here we demonstrate that enhancing Titanium-Oxygen covalency through pseudo-Jahn-Teller Effect distortion in Ruddlesden-Popper perovskites enables low-potential operation. The Li 2 La 2 Ti 3 O 10 negative electrode exhibits a working potential of 0.5 V vs. Li + /Li with initial 139.3 mAh g −1 at 5 A g −1 and 72.9% capacity retention after 5000 cycles. Full cells with LiNi 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 O 2 positive electrodes deliver 3.45 V average discharge voltage-50% higher than conventional Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 | |LiNi 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 O 2 systems-achieving 100 mAh g −1 at 4 A g −1 . Mechanistic analysis reveals low Li⁺ migration barriers and stable Ruddlesden-Popper perovskite frameworks enable rapid ion transport.
