Photothermal CO 2 conversion into value-added syngas via dry reforming is pivotal for greenhouse gas utilization, yet its efficiency is constrained by catalyst deactivation. Here, we demonstrate that morphology-induced crystal phase modulation of ZrO 2 supports enables effective optimization of interfacial sites in Ni/ZrO 2 catalysts. By engineering cubic (Ni/ZrO 2 -C) and stellated (Ni/ZrO 2 -S) architectures, a metastable mixed-phase structure (54.8% monoclinic/37.3% tetragonal) is stabilized to achieve precise phase regulation. Systematic characterization reveals that this phase transformation strengthens metal–support interactions, improves Ni dispersion, and generates abundant oxygen vacancies. As a result, Ni/ZrO 2 -C achieves 95% ethanol conversion with lower by-product formation and exhibits exceptional stability, with a 50% lower deactivation rate (0.13% h −1 ) than Ni/ZrO 2 -S (0.26% h −1 ). The enhanced performance is attributed to improved surface basicity and more efficient coke gasification facilitated by interfacial oxygen vacancies. Theoretical calculations further confirm kinetically favorable pathways with reduced activation barriers, particularly for carbon oxidation, accounting for the observed 3.2-fold higher activity of Ni/ZrO 2 -C. This work establishes morphology-directed crystal phase engineering as a general strategy for designing efficient photothermal catalysts.

In 2 O 3 supported on ZrO 2 and CeO 2 was developed for CO 2 -to-formate electroreduction. • Distinct support effects of ZrO 2 and CeO 2 on In 2 O 3 active site were identified. • CeO 2 tunes electronic structure of In species and boosts the catalytic performance. • In 2 O 3 /CeO 2 delivers higher current density and Faradaic efficiency than In 2 O 3 /ZrO 2 . • The In 2 O 3 /CeO 2 catalyst maintains stable operation for 50 h at 100 mA cm −2 . Developing efficient electrocatalysts for the selective CO 2 electroreduction to formate is important for achieving carbon neutrality. Herein, In 2 O 3 /ZrO 2 and In 2 O 3 /CeO 2 catalysts were fabricated by combining MOF-derived oxide supports with incipient wetness impregnation and subsequent thermal treatment. Comparative studies reveal that CeO 2 affords a more favorable catalyst-support interface than the ZrO 2 support, resulting in enhanced activity and selectivity for formate production. In a flow cell, the optimized In 2 O 3 /CeO 2 catalyst achieves a formate Faradaic efficiency of 90.0% at −1.37 V vs. RHE with a current density of 177 mA cm −2 , significantly outperforming the In 2 O 3 /ZrO 2 catalyst. Combined structural characterization and kinetic analysis indicate that the CeO 2 support improves the electronic structure of In species, thereby facilitating the adsorption and conversion of key intermediates and thereby improving the intrinsic reactivity for formate formation. Moreover, the In 2 O 3 /CeO 2 catalyst maintains stable operation for 50 h at 100 mA cm −2 . This work highlights the critical role of support effects in regulating In-based active sites and provides insights into the rational design of efficient catalysts for the selective CO 2 -to-formate electroreduction. A series of In 2 O 3 /ZrO 2 and In 2 O 3 /CeO 2 catalysts were prepared for ECR to formate. The CeO 2 affords a more favorable catalyst-support interface than the ZrO 2 support, resulting in enhanced activity and selectivity for formate production. Carbon nanofibers (CNFs) possess advantages such as high strength, high-temperature resistance, and high extinction coefficient, making them widely used in aerospace, industrial furnaces, and energy fields. However, the high solid thermal conductivity of CNFs limits their application in high-temperature thermal insulation. To address this issue, we propose simultaneously constructing porous structure and introducing low-thermal-conductivity zirconia (ZrO 2 ) nanocrystals into CNFs to prepare “lotus-root-like” porous ZrO 2 /C nanofibers (ZrO 2 /C-NFs). The ZrO 2 /C-NFs achieved ultra-low thermal conductivity of 0.013 W m −1 K −1 at ambient and 0.077 W m −1 K −1 at 1200 °C, representing reductions of 27.8% and 76.7% compared to solid ZrO 2 /C-NF membranes, respectively. In addition, the ZrO 2 /C-NFs exhibited excellent mechanical property and thermal stability. The tensile strength of ZrO 2 /C-NFs membrane was up to ∼2.2 MPa. The mass retention maintains over 85% even heated at 1400 °C in an argon atmosphere. The integrated properties of the ZrO 2 /C-NFs make them have great promising application in the field of high-temperature thermal insulation. This study also provides a novel approach for designing and fabricating high-performance thermal insulation materials.

This study systematically investigates the effects of varying Y 2 O 3 /ZrO 2 additive ratios on the phase evolution, microstructural characteristics, densification, mechanical properties, and tribological performance of β-Sialon ceramics fabricated via spark plasma sintering. The results demonstrate that both Y 2 O 3 and ZrO 2 promote the formation and densification of β-Sialon. Specifically, ZrO 2 facilitates the in-situ reaction with Si 3 N 4 and AlN to form ZrN, while Y 2 O 3 enhances the densification process through liquid phase formation. Notably, the content of in-situ formed ZrN decreases with the increase of Y 2 O 3 addition. Compared to the single addition of Y 2 O 3 , the optimized Y 2 O 3 /ZrO 2 ratio enables the formation of fine β-Sialon grains, well-dispersed ZrN particles, and minimal grain boundary phases. When 2 wt% Y 2 O 3 and 4 wt% ZrO 2 (SY2Z4) were added, the β-Sialon ceramic achieved an optimal balance of properties, where the Vickers hardness and fracture toughness reached 17.3 GPa and 6.7 MPa m 1/2 , respectively, representing increases of 27.2% and 28.9% compared to the sample with the sole addition of 6 wt% Y 2 O 3 (SY6). In terms of tribological properties, the SY2Z4 sample exhibits a significantly reduced coefficient of friction (0.582), wear volume loss (0.89 × 10 −2 mm 3 ), and wear rate (0.25 × 10 −5 mm 3 /(N·m)), which are 12.87%, 91.76%, and 91.67% lower than those of SY6, respectively. The results also indicate that abrasive wear is the dominant wear mode, and the in-situ formation of a protective tribofilm on the worn surface of SY2Z4 further contributes to its superior wear resistance. This work provides a feasible strategy for the microstructural regulation and performance optimization of β-Sialon ceramics via tailoring rare earth oxide/transition metal oxide additive systems, which holds great potential for extending their applications in high-wear-resistance engineering fields.

A series of Fe/ZrO 2 Fischer–Tropsch
synthesis
catalysts were prepared via a solid-state grinding method assisted
by citric acid ligands, aiming to enhance the dispersion of active
metal and tailor the metal–support interfacial structure through
a green, solvent-free synthesis strategy, thereby optimizing catalytic
performance. In this study, citric acid (CA) was used as the ligand
and a series of Fe/ZrO 2 catalysts were synthesized by varying
the CA/Fe molar ratio (0, 0.25:1, 0.5:1, 1:1, and 2:1) to systematically
investigate the effect of ligand dosage on the transformation of active
Fe phases and Fischer–Tropsch performance. The structure–performance
relationship was elucidated using XRD, TEM, BET, XPS, H 2 -TPR, and Mössbauer spectroscopy. Results revealed that an
appropriate CA dosage (1:1) significantly improved the dispersion
of Fe nanoparticles, promoted the formation of Fe–O–Zr
interfacial structures and oxygen vacancies, lowered the reduction
temperature of FeO x species, and enhanced
CO adsorption capacity. These factors collectively facilitated the
formation of a high content of the χ-Fe 5 C 2 active phase, resulting in the highest CO conversion and C 5+ hydrocarbon selectivity. The catalyst with a CA/Fe molar ratio of
1:1 exhibited the best performance, achieving a steady-state CO conversion
of 42.6% and a C 5+ selectivity of 46.5% after 192 h on
stream, which are significantly higher than those of the unmodified
catalyst (CO conversion 23.2%, C 5+ selectivity 36.4%).
In contrast, insufficient CA dosage (0.25:1, 0.5:1) led to nonuniform
dispersion of Fe species on the support surface, reduced surface area,
and limited interfacial synergy. Excessive CA (2:1), although maintaining
high dispersion, could impede the reduction pathway and cause unfavorable
structural evolution, ultimately reducing catalytic performance. Overall,
the study demonstrates the existence of an optimal CA dosage window,
with the 1:1 molar ratio condition achieving synergistic optimization
of Fe electronic structure and interfacial activity, leading to high
CO conversion in Fischer–Tropsch synthesis. These findings
provide robust experimental evidence for the application of organic
ligand-assisted green synthesis strategies in controlling the active
phase transformation and performance optimization of iron-based catalysts,
as well as offering new insights and approaches for the design of
green and efficient Fischer–Tropsch synthesis catalysts.

Catalytic combustion is a widely used technology for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) abatement, in which highly active catalysts play a key role. However, catalyst is prone to poisoning during the degradation of VOCs. In order to study anti-poisoning performance, the Cl, S and P heteroatoms were artificially introduced, and the corresponding doped CuO-ZrO 2 catalysts were prepared via a salicylic acid-assisted sol-gel method. The effects of heteroatom doping on the structure, acidity, redox properties and catalytic performance were systematically studied. The results showed that Cl, S and P doping effectively tuned the catalyst structure, active species dispersion and surface Lewis/Brønsted acid sites, which exerted a meaningful influence on catalytic performance of catalysts in the degradation of VOCs pollutants. In addition, compared with the undoped CuZrO, Cl-CuZrO exhibited the highest catalytic performance for degradation of toluene, chlorobenzene and p-chlorotoluene, indicating that the CuO-ZrO 2 catalyst system possessed excellent chlorine resistance. Meanwhile, S-CuZrO showed comparable performance to CuZrO, which demonstrated that the CuO-ZrO 2 catalysts had a certain degree of sulfur resistance. Through the design and optimization of heteroatom doping, this work provided valuable insights for enhancing the catalytic efficiency and structure stability of CuO-ZrO 2 based catalysts.

(1) Background: Asomate, as a dithiocarbamate compound, is moderately toxic to the human body; thus, it is necessary to develop a rapid and efficient method for detection. To meet this need, this study introduced a rapid, non-destructive, and efficient method for detecting asomate residues on the surface of apples based on surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) combined with flexible substrates. (2) Methods: Concave Au nanorods (AuCNAs) were synthesized in advance. Then, the AuCNAs were loaded on an electrostatically spun film to generate a flexible TiO2/ZrO2/AuCNAs substrate for detection. (3) Results: The flexible substrate exhibited strong SERS activity, with an enhancement factor (EF) up to 9.40 × 107for 4-MBA. Meanwhile, the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulation showed that the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effects related to the enhancement of the SERS signal are mainly generated from the ‘hot spots’ in AuCNAs. The density functional theory (DFT) simulation detailedly revealed that the SERS peaks could be generated by the interaction among asomate molecules, disassociated Au atoms, and Au facets. Moreover, the asomate in apple peel was analyzed with the limit of detection (LOD) as low as below 10 nM, allowing for the rapid detection of asomate directly on apple peels. (4) Conclusions: The flexible TiO2/ZrO2/AuCNAs film can be used for the in situ detection of asomate in apple peel at low concentrations. Moreover, the simulation methods, including FDTD and DFT, explained the mechanism of SERS from the flexible substrates.

Reduced graphene oxide (rGO) aerogels have attracted extensive attention due to their unique physical properties, but their poor mechanical properties and insufficient functionality hinder their further application. In this study, we propose a strategy for fiber-reinforced rGO aerogels for mechanical enhancement and multifunctional applications. We fabricated carbon fibers (CFs) modified with zirconia (ZrO 2 ) particles to enhance rGO aerogels. The resulting aerogels exhibit exceptional lightweight characteristics (8.62 mg cm −3 ) and high compressive deformation up to 90 % (320 kPa), and a low thermal conductivity of 25.3 mW m −1 K −1 . Simultaneously, the aerogel demonstrates excellent electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption performance, with a minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of −62.99 dB at 3.4 mm and an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 8.19 GHz. The introduction of ZrO 2 achieves three ends with a single effort: it enhances mechanical performance, disrupts thermal conduction pathways within the aerogel framework while simultaneously optimizing impedance matching. This synergistic effect enables dual-band compatibility for radar-infrared stealth applications, demonstrating significant potential for aerospace applications.

The hydrogenation of CO2 to light olefins is a promising method for CO2 resource utilization. Tandem catalysts composed of metal oxides and zeolites have been widely studied for the hydrogenation of CO2 to light olefins, but there are bottleneck problems in terms of CO2 conversion and light olefins yield. ZnO-ZrO2 catalyst is extensively employed in CO2 hydrogenation because of its excellent stability at high temperatures, but there is still a "seesaw" problem between the CO2 conversion and light olefins selectivity. In addition, the synergetic effect between Zn and Zr sites on the reaction process remains unclear. In this work, a series of ZnO-ZrO2 catalytic materials with various Zn: Zr ratios were synthesized by co-precipitation, and the interaction between Zn and Zr could be regulated by altering the Zn: Zr ratio. XRD and TEM results confirmed the successful synthesis of ZnO-ZrO2 composite oxide and the existence of a certain interaction between Zn and Zr. CO2-TPD, H2-TPR and XPS results indicated that the interaction between Zn and Zr could improve the hydrogenation capacity of the catalyst and also induce the generation of abundant oxygen vacancies to effectively promote the adsorption and activation of CO2. Catalytic performance results showed that ZnO-ZrO2(1:4)/SAPO-34 exhibits the best CO2 to light olefins activity with a CO2 conversion rate of 26.4% and a C2=-C4=selectivity of 72.6%. This work provides a feasible strategy for rational designing and optimizing of CO2 hydrogenation catalyst.

Although zirconia (ZrO 2 ) ceramics and lithium disilicate (Li 2 Si 2 O 5 ) glass ceramics are widely used in the field of dental restoration due to their superior properties, there remians an urgent demand to combine their complementary advantages through preparing composite materials for enhanced comprehensive performance to meet higher restoration requirements. In this study, ZrO 2 -Li 2 Si 2 O 5 powder was prepared through the sol-gel method and followed by spark plasma sintering at 900 °C for 10 min, the glass ceramics were successfully obtained. The effects of the ratio of ZrO 2 to Li 2 Si 2 O 5 on the phase composition, crystallinity, microstructure and mechanical properties of the glass ceramics were systematically investigated. The results showed that with the increase of Li 2 Si 2 O 5 content, the sintering densification process of glass ceramics was accelerated, and the crystallization of Li 2 Si 2 O 5 crystals gradually increased, while the content of t-ZrO 2 , m-ZrO 2 and ZrSiO 4 crystals decreased, and the grains size increased. Which led to an increase and then a decrease in mechanical properties, especially the fracture toughness. When ZrO 2 :Li 2 Si 2 O 5 is 1:2 (ZLS2), the glass ceramic exhibited the best comprehensive mechanical properties with a flexural strength of 390 ± 26 MPa and a significantly improved fracture toughness of 7.47 ± 0.42 MPa·m 1/2 . The improvement of performance is mainly due to the crack deflection, crack bridging, the stress caused by the differences in the coefficient of thermal expansion of different phases, and the dislocations generated in ZrO 2 .

Solid-state lithium metal batteries (SSLMBs) have great potential as high-energy-density, high-power, and safe energy storage devices. Solid polymer electrolytes based on polyvinylidene fluoride-poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-(PVDF-HFP)) have attracted significant attention due to their high ionic conductivity at room temperature, good flexibility, and unique ion transport properties, making them promising candidates for commercial applications. However, PVDF-based composite solid polymer electrolytes (CSPEs) exhibit poor lithium-ion transport properties and are prone to chemical reactions with the lithium metal surface, posing the risk of forming lithium dendrites. This degradation results in reduced battery performance and cycle life. This work investigates the effects of Co-doped cubic-ZrO 2-x (C-ZrO 2-x ), a filler with abundant oxygen vacancies, on the electrochemical properties of PVDF-based CSPE. Zirconium in zirconia can provide Lewis acid sites, while oxygen vacancies can adsorb TFSI − and exhibit a pronounced ability to dissociate lithium salt and accumulate anchored anions. These effects are further amplified after phase transition, from unstable monoclinic phase with a small amount of oxygen vacancies to cubic phase with abundant oxygen vacancies, leading to a higher proportion of free Li + in PVDF-based CSPE. Additionally, the uniform distribution of solid electrolyte interphase with a single LiF component, indicates that C-ZrO 2-x increases the interface stability between electrolyte and lithium metal. The corresponding Li||Li symmetrical cells show a stable cycle lifetime of 730 h at 0.1 mA cm −2 . The specific discharge capacity of Li|CSPE|LiFePO 4 reaches 106.09 mAh g −1 at 1 C. Even after 550 cycles, the capacity retention rate is still 92.13 %. These findings ideally contribute to an effective way to achieve high performance and long cycle life of solid-state lithium metal batteries.

Barium titanate ceramics exhibit great potential in ceramic capacitors due to their excellent dielectric properties. However, with the highly integrated advancement in electronic components, the preparation of high-capacitance ceramic capacitors with complex structural design has been the focus in current research. In this study, the complex structural barium zirconium titanate is first prepared through direct ink writing (DIW) technique. Subsequently, based on the regulation of zirconium substitution on the phase transition temperature of barium titanate, we reasonably designed zirconium-substituted barium titanate ceramics with varying stoichiometric ratios to regulate the three-phase transition temperatures of zirconium titanate ceramics, and following optimized the sintering temperature of the over-substituted barium zirconium titanate, thus improving the dielectric properties of the barium titanate. The results demonstrate that the solid content of 65 % exhibited the optimal forming precision and the highest densification. Additionally, the over-substituted zirconia alter the phase structure of barium titanate, increasing the proportion of tetragonal phase and subsequently elevating the dielectric constant of the specimens. Notably, among all sintering temperatures tested, the specimen sintered at 1400 °C display the highest proportion of tetragonal zirconia-barium titanate and an optimal dielectric constant. This research offers valuable technical and theoretical insights for the preparation and utilization of zirconium-substituted barium titanate ceramics with intricate structures.
