Antioxidant enzymes are considered to be the most direct and safe candidates to effectively resist oxidative stress and treat senile osteoporosis. However, due to their size, existing enzyme delivery carriers are inevitably endocytosed by cells and subsequently enter endosomes/lysosomes with low pH and rich in acid hydrolase, resulting in the limited therapeutic effects. In this work, an ultrasmall superoxide dismutase (SOD) nanoformulation reinforced with ultrathin ZIF-8 coating (utZIF-SOD) via in situ coordination-mediated self-assembly strategy is constructed. Notably, utZIF-SOD achieves direct, efficient cellular uptake mediated by small size effect, thereby avoiding lysosomal degradation. In particular, ultrathin ZIF-8 coating strengthened the stability of enzyme. Even in aged cells with high oxidative stress levels, utZIF-SOD maintained excellent stability, and its efficiency in scavenging excess intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) is ≈1.5 times that of native SOD, better promoting the osteogenic differentiation of aged bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. In a senile osteoporosis mouse model, the bone mineral density increment after treatment with utZIF-SOD is ≈2 times that of native SOD, achieving the reversal of senile osteoporosis. This work demonstrates the great promise in the synthesis of ultrasmall nanoformulations with ultrathin metal-organic framework coating and opens new avenues for efficient enzyme delivery.

To support the development of a low-carbon economy and contribute to the achievement of carbon neutrality, this study synthesized bifunctional zeolitic imidazolate framework-8-based nanozymes (ZNZs) with dual functionality: CO2 adsorption and carbonic anhydrase (CA)-mimetic catalytic activity. The influence of ZNZs at varying concentrations on the growth rate of microalgae, chlorophyll and carbohydrate content, and ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco) and CA activity were explored. Results indicated that after the addition of 5 mg/L ZNZs, the growth rate of microalgae increased by 7%. Furthermore, the maximum chlorophyll and carbohydrate contents reached 4.55 and 43.59 mg/L, respectively, which were 12.6 and 4.2% higher than those in the control group. Additionally, Rubisco and CA activity (intra- and extracellular) increased by up to 21.26, 10, and 8.3%, respectively. These findings demonstrate that ZNZs enhance the photosynthetic efficiency of microalgae and increase microalgae’s affinity for CO2, highlighting their promise as a strategy for improving carbon capture and sustainable bioenergy production.

Due to the hyperglycemic environment, diabetic wounds are highly susceptible to bacterial infections, facilitating their progression to chronic, non-healing wounds. Consequently, there is an urgent need to develop wound dressings capable of reducing wound glucose levels and exerting strong antibacterial activities. In this study, a ZIF-8/Au-GOx (ZAG) nanozyme was grown in situ on fluffy chitin (FC) powder by integrating zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), glucose oxidase (GOx), and Au nanoparticles, leading to the development of a multifunctional wound dressing (FC/ZAG) for diabetic wound therapy. Benefiting from the cascade catalytic effect of the loaded ZAG nanozyme, FC/ZAG demonstrated a remarkable hypoglycemic activity and potent antibacterial properties. Additionally, owing to the biocompatibility of FC and the sustained release of Zn 2+ , the FC/ZAG powder exhibited a superior safety profile. In experiments in a mouse model of diabetic wound healing, FC/ZAG exerted significant anti-inflammatory and pro-angiogenic effects, accelerating the healing process of diabetic wounds. These findings highlight the high potential of FC/ZAG as a promising candidate for the development of advanced diabetic wound dressings.

The development of high-efficiency adsorbents for addressing Pb(II) contamination in aquatic environments remains an urgent challenge in environmental remediation. This study presents a novel thiol-functionalized ZIF-8-based adsorbent (ZIF-8-TMT) with a stable 3D framework and abundant thiol groups, designed to overcome the limitations of conventional adsorption materials. The synthesized ZIF-8-TMT demonstrated a substantial BET surface area (456.58 m 2 /g) and numerous active adsorption sites, exhibiting exceptional Pb(II) adsorption capacity (494.9 mg/g) that surpassed most previously reported adsorbents. Systematic characterization revealed that the composite achieved rapid adsorption kinetics, with approximately 80 % removal efficiency within 30 min, and maintained excellent regenerability - showing negligible capacity reduction after three adsorption-desorption cycles and retaining over 60 % removal efficiency after five cycles. The adsorption mechanism was comprehensively investigated through Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and computational simulations including density functional theory (DFT), bond order density (BOD), and natural adaptive orbital (NAdO) analyses. Results indicated that the superior adsorption performance originated from synergistic effects between electrostatic interactions and dual coordination involving the N3 atoms in 2-methylimidazole ligands and thiol (-SH) groups from TMT. This study not only provides fundamental insights into the coordination chemistry of Pb(II) adsorption but also demonstrates the practical potential of ZIF-8-TMT for wastewater treatment applications, offering a promising solution for heavy metal pollution control with its combination of high capacity, rapid kinetics, and excellent reusability.

An electrochemical aptamer sensor for the sensitive detection of aflatoxin B1(AFB1) in corn samples was developed using nanocomposites loaded with copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) on zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), which were modified on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The CuNPs@ZIF-8 nanocomposites served as modifying materials for electrodes, exhibiting a high specific surface area and excellent compatibility with aptamers, thereby enhancing the electron transfer rate and increasing the aptamer loading and immobilization efficiency. The electrochemical properties before and after modification were investigated and validated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques, while the sensor’s performance was analyzed through quantitative detection via differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Furthermore, various conditions, including the volume of ZIF-8 dispersion, electrodeposition time of copper nanoparticles, aptamer concentration, and AFB1incubation time, were optimized. The results indicated that the sensor exhibited a wide linear range (10.0 to 1.0 × 106pg/mL), with a lower limit of detection (LOD) of 1.13 pg/mL under optimized conditions, outperforming other reported aptamer sensors. The spiked recoveries in corn samples ranged from 96.663% to 105.72%. In conclusion, this sensor presents a novel solution for low-cost and high-sensitivity detection of AFB1.

Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs), a subfamily of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), have received considerable attention as a novel porous material for sample preparation due to their fascinating structures and unique properties. Here, we developed a novel bio-inspired polydopamine (PDA) method to immobilize ZIFs inside the chemical resistance poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) tube for online solid-phase microextraction (SPME). Firstly, PDA layer was assembled inside the PEEK tube. Secondly, attributing to its noncovalent adsorption and covalent reaction ability, PDA could attract and anchor ZIF-8 nutrients onto the inner surface of PEEK tube to promote the nucleation and growth of ZIF-8. The morphology and surface properties of the prepared ZIF-8-PDA-PEEK tube were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry. The ZIF-8-PDA-PEEK tube exhibits excellent extraction efficiency toward six polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), with enrichment factor from 550 to 734. The developed online SPME–HPLC method shows good linearity (10–5000 pg/mL) and low detection limits (0.5–5 pg/mL) for six PAHs. It also has been used to determine PAHs in environmental samples, with recoveries in the range of 82.5–98.6%.

Galdieria sulphuraria (GS) show distinctive physiological traits For the removal of metal ions in aqueous solution, Algal powder have a limited capacity for uranium adsorption. This research institute introduces a innovative approach, The surface electronegativity of GS and the particle size of metal-organic framework (MOF) were modified. ZiF-8 was effectively synthesized on the surface of microalgae to adsorption of uranium (VI) from aqueous solutions. Improve the uranium adsorption capacity of microalgal biomaterials, Characterization analyses conducted using a microplate reader, SEM, XRD, FT-IR, and XPS collectively demonstrate the successful assembly of the MOF on the surface of GS and adsorption of uranium. The results of the adsorption experiments demonstrate that the adsorption capacity of microalgae self-assembly ZIF-8 is markedly superior to that of the unmodified microalgae. The material has the highest adsorption capacity at pH 5. The adsorption behavior aligns with the Sips isotherm model, with a maximum adsorption capacity of approximately 908 mg·g −1 . Kinetic experiments are accurately described by the pseudo-second-order model, The adsorption process is predominantly governed by chemisorption. The thermodynamic parameters (ΔG < 0,ΔH > 0) show that the adsorption process is spontaneous and endothermic in nature. The adsorption capacity exhibits an increase as the temperature rises. This material exhibits effective stability and maintains a high adsorption capacity after undergoing four consecutive adsorption cycles. Compared with inorganic materials, bio-inorganic hybrid materials exhibit Excellent potential for environmental compatibility.

Food spoilage caused by microbial contamination remains a global challenge, driving demand for sustainable antibacterial packaging. Conventional photocatalytic materials suffer from limited spectral response, rapid charge recombination, and insufficient reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation under visible light. Here, a Z-scheme heterojunction was constructed by coupling zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) with Ag 3 PO 4 , achieving dual-spectral absorption and spatial charge separation. The directional electron transfer from Ag 3 PO 4 ’s conduction band to ZIF-8 effectively suppresses electron-hole recombination, prolonging carrier lifetimes and amplifying ROS production (·O 2 − /·OH). Synergy with Ag + release further enhances bactericidal efficacy. Incorporated into a cellulose acetate matrix (CAM), the ZIF-8/Ag 3 PO 4 /CAM film demonstrates 99.06% antibacterial efficiency against meat surface microbiota under simulated sunlight, alongside high transparency. This study proposes a Z-scheme heterojunction strategy to maximize ROS generation efficiency and demonstrates a scalable fabrication approach for active food packaging materials, effectively targeting microbial contamination control and shelf-life prolongation.

Introduction: Guided bone regeneration (GBR) is widely used for maxillofacial defects, but fabricating membranes that enhance osteoinduction and antimicrobial resistance remains challenging. This study addresses critical bone defect therapy by developing collagen (Col) and zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) reinforced poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) nanofibrous membranes. Methods: Material characterization analyzed the composite nanofibrous membranes’ morphology, structure, wettability, tensile strength, in vitro degradation, and ion release. Biocompatibility and osteogenesis were evaluated using live/dead staining, cytoskeleton staining, CCK-8 assay, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity quantification, ALP staining, alizarin red S (ARS) staining and ARS quantification. Antibacterial efficacy was assessed via agar plate counting and bacterial growth kinetics. In vivo bone regeneration was examined in a rat cranial critical defect model treated with the membrane; bone formation was evaluated by Micro-CT and hematoxylin-eosin staining after 4 weeks. Results: Optimization of the PLGA/Col weight ratio (100:3) yielded composite membranes demonstrating superior tensile strength. The PLGA/Col/ZIF-8 nanofibrous composite incorporating 1 wt% ZIF-8 nanoparticles exhibited optimal biocompatibility with sustained Zn2+ release kinetics. In vitro experiments demonstrated that sustained release of Zn2+ has the dual effects of stimulating osteogenic differentiation and effectively preventing early bacterial infection. In vivo a rat calvarial defect model further confirmed the positive bone regeneration effect of the PLGA/Col/ZIF-8 composite nanofibrous membrane.Discussion: PLGA/Col/ZIF-8 composite nanofibrous membranes have great potential for application in guiding bone tissue regeneration.

Traditional physical and chemical deicing methods are often labor-intensive and inefficient, while superhydrophobic anti-icing coatings provide a simpler and more effective alternative. In this study, a composite coating with a ZnO@CoZIF-8 micronano-structure modified by polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), and 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluoroalkyltriethoxysilanes (POTS) was prepared via a simple spraying technique. The coating exhibited a contact angle (CA) of 156.6° and a sliding angle (SA) as low as 3.5°. The contact angle remained above 150° for 144 h in an alkaline environment (pH = 11). Due to its excellent superhydrophobic properties, the coating remarkably delayed freezing, extending the complete freezing time of a 20 μL water droplet to 1658 s at −15 °C, which shows a 12-fold increase compared to untreated glass surfaces (120 s). Meanwhile, the coating can maintain low ice adhesion at 44.80 kPa and demonstrates superoleophilicity with an oil–water separation efficiency of 92.69%. It also exhibited notable self-cleaning, antipollution, and antibacterial properties, achieving a sterilization efficiency exceeding 90% after 24 h. The prepared coating shows great potential for applications in wind power, construction, aviation, shipping, and other industries.

In order to prevent and control the effects of pesticide residues on human health and the ecological environment, the rapid, highly sensitive, and selective detection of multiple pesticide residues has become an urgent problem to be solved. Herein, a lab-on-a-molecule probe based on a host–guest complex (ThT@Q[8] probe) has been developed to simultaneously analyze multiple aromatic pesticides under single wavelength excitation, such as fuberidazole, thiabendazole, carbendazim, thidiazuron, and tricyclazole. The fluorescence titration spectra of the ThT@Q[8] probe with the five pesticides mentioned above showed that the fluorescence intensity exhibited a good linear correlation with the pesticide concentration and the limit of detection was as low as 10–7 M. Because the ThT@Q[8] probe exhibits diverse fluorescence color changes to the five pesticides studied under a 365 nm ultraviolet lamp, we fabricated a single probe used to detect multiple analytes in the RGB triple channel by extracting the RGB variations. Principal component analysis and linear discriminant analysis proved that the ThT@Q[8] probe can recognize and distinguish five pesticides and can be applied at different concentrations. In real samples, the ThT@Q[8] probe recognized and distinguished five pesticides in tap water and Huaxi River water. The 1H NMR spectra results proved that a charge-transfer complex of ThT and pesticides in the Q[8] cavity may be formed. Moreover, we selected a test strip as a carrier to detect pesticides. The results indicate it can be used to quickly and conveniently detect different pesticides due to the rapid color change. Besides, the ThT@Q[8] probe has good cell permeability and can be used to detect pesticide residues in living cells. This work has laid the foundation for the qualitative and quantitative multitarget detection of pesticide residues.

Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) based mixed matrix membrane (MMM) for CO 2 capture shows insufficient CO 2 permeability due to random disperse of MOFs in form of individual particle. Therefore, in this work, a continuous MOFs transport pathway for CO 2 with low resistance was constructed in the MMM by assistance of electrospun nanofiber . Specifically, PAN electrospun nanofiber mat (NFM) was utilized as skeleton to obtain continuous ZIF-8 nanofibers. Then flexible polyethylene glycol (PEG) molecules were photo-polymerized in situ into the inner-voids within ZIF-8@PAN NFM to form dense membrane . As a result, ZIF-8 particles are distributed in PEO matrix continuously, leading to a low-resistance transport pathway for gas molecules in MMM, which is proved by the cross-sectional SEM images. Furthermore, the higher Tg of ZIF-8@PAN-x/PEO MMM by DSC also indicates the good interfacial compatibility between ZIF-8 and PEO. Compared with pure PEO membrane, all the ZIF-8@PAN-x/PEO MMMs present both enhanced CO 2 permeability and CO 2 /N 2 selectivity. The enhanced CO 2 permeability is attributed to the continuous ZIF-8 transport pathway, and the improved selectivity is ascribed to the size screening from nanofibers overlapping and stacking and the tortuous transport pathway. Importantly, compared with ZIF-8/PEO MMM, in which ZIF-8 particles are randomly dispersed into PEO matrix, the ZIF-8@PAN-4/PEO MMM with the same ZIF-8 loading of about 16.6 wt% presents enhanced CO 2 permeability and CO 2 /N 2 selectivity, which are increased by 52.4% and 44.3%, respectively. This is due to the continuous ZIF-8 transport pathway and good interfacial compatibility, which is also confirmed by the result of gas diffusivity and solubility coefficients. Together with the outstanding mechanical strength and stability, the proposed MMM with continuous ZIF-8 transport pathway paves a new way to improve CO 2 permeability.
