Infectious bone defect is a condition where infection and bone defect occur simultaneously. The simultaneous achievement of effective antimicrobial management and enhanced bone regeneration continues to present a major hurdle in musculoskeletal therapeutics. To address these limitations, we have developed a novel osteoconductive material, this material (PDA@Mg-MOF-LEV) consists of Magnesium-based metal-organic frameworks (Mg-MOF) particles loaded with the antibiotic levofloxacin (LEV) and coated with polydopamine (PDA), which integrates photothermal therapy with antibiotic delivery to combat bacterial drug resistance and facilitate bone tissue regeneration. Under near-infrared (NIR) irradiation, PDA@Mg-MOF-LEV particles demonstrate superior antibacterial efficacy and enhanced osteogenic potential. Drug release studies indicate that NIR irradiation significantly increases LEV release by 337% and Mg ions release by 196% compared to standard conditions. Furthermore, in vitro antibacterial assays confirm that NIR irradiation markedly enhances the antibacterial activity of PDA@Mg-MOF-LEV particles, achieving inhibition rates of 97.5 ± 1.45% against Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) and 98.5 ± 2.27% against Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ). The photothermal therapy mediated by NIR irradiation not only enhances antibacterial efficacy but also directly stimulates osteogenic differentiation and calcium deposition in mBMSCs, positioning PDA@Mg-MOF-LEV as a multi-modal therapeutic platform for infective osteogenesis.

Hydrogen fluoride (HF) gas is a major combustion byproduct in non-ferrous metal smelting, aluminum electrolysis, coal combustion, and waste incineration processes. Due to its high corrosivity and toxicity, which pose a serious threat to human health and environmental ecosystems, it is necessary to strictly control HF emissions from industrial processes or remove it using proper methods. In this study, an oxygen vacancy-containing magnesium-based adsorbent (2NC@Mg(NO 3 ) 2 –500) was successfully synthesized via a one-pot method. This adsorbent demonstrated a maximum HF adsorption capacity of 195.65 mg·g −1 (at 90 % efficiency), significantly exceeding values reported in previous literature. The basic sites of magnesium oxide (MgO) were critical for promoting HF dissociation, while oxygen vacancies facilitated HF adsorption and its conversion to magnesium fluoride (MgF 2 ). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations further confirmed the experimental findings, demonstrating that oxygen vacancies significantly enhance HF adsorption on MgO by stabilizing fluoride ions (F - ) at the vacancy sites. The subsequent consumption of these vacancies and the conversion of MgO to MgF 2 led to adsorbent deactivation. This study highlights the important role of oxygen vacancies in HF gas adsorption.

In sharp contrast to photocatalysis and other prevalent catalytic technologies, tribocatalysis has emerged as a promising technology to degrade high-concentration organic dyes in recent years. In this study, BaTiO3(BTO) nanoparticles were challenged to degrade methyl orange (MO) solutions with unprecedentedly high concentrations through magnetic stirring. With BTO nanoparticles and home-made PTFE magnetic rotary disks in 50 mg/L MO solutions, 10 h of magnetic stirring resulted in 91.4% and 98.1% degradations in an as-received glass beaker and in a beaker with a PTFE disk coated on its bottom, respectively. Even for 100 mg/L MO solutions, nearly complete degradation was achieved by magnetic-stirring-stimulated BTO nanoparticles in beakers with the following four kinds of bottom: 97.3% degradation in 30 h for a glass bottom, 97.4% degradation in 20 h for a PTFE coating, 97.9% degradation in 42 h for a Ti coating, and 97.4% degradation in 74 h for an Al2O3coating. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analyses revealed that the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by magnetic-stirring-stimulated BTO nanoparticles is dramatically affected by the bottom material of beakers. These findings suggest an appealing prospect for BTO nanoparticles to utilize mechanical energy for sustainable water remediation.

Oily wastewater has become one of the great threats to the environment. Membrane separation technology has become a research focus in wastewater treatment due to its advantages in environment protection, low sedimentation cost, low energy consumption and reusability. NPA/ZnMgAl-LDHs (NPA, nylon film material loaded with nano-TiO 2 particles, LDHs , layered double hydroxides) material based on nylon film material (PA) was synthesized using a two-step method. Various characterization methods confirmed the successful introduction of TiO 2 and ZnMgAl-LDHs. The testing of water contact angle (WCA) and underwater oil contact angle (UOCA) confirmed that the original PA substrate possesses hydrophobicity and lipophilicity. The superhydrophilicity and superoleophobicity of NPA/ZnMgAl-LDHs material were brought by the introduction of TiO 2 and ZnMgAl-LDHs. NPA/ZnMgAl-LDHs material shows stable and efficient separation efficiency (> 99%), and exhibits high separation flux in simple oil-water separation and oil in water emulsion demulsification. In addition, its separation efficiency is almost unaffected under environments of different pH, and the separation flux remains at a high level. The photocatalytic activity is another satisfactory result of NPA/ZnMgAl-LDHs material. Methyl orange solution was effectively degraded by NPA/ZnMgAl-LDHs material within 120 min, and the efficiency is up to 99.09%.

Nanoplastics, characterized by their small size, high diffusion, and stability, have emerged as the new class of pollutants posing a global threat. For achieving both chemical and thermal stability of adsorbents, this study synthesized FeMg-LDO@BC, a novel adsorbent prepared through the in-situ growth and calcination of FeMg-layered double hydroxide (FeMg-LDH) on pre-treated biochar. FeMg-LDO@BC demonstrated an excellent adsorption rates and removal efficiencies for polystyrene nanoplastics (PSNPs) as determined by pseudo-first-order kinetic model and Sips isotherm model, reaching a 99.8 % adsorption efficiency and the maximum capacity of 97.93 mg/g. The removal mechanism was primarily attributed to π-π EDA interactions, surface complexation, and hydrogen bonding. Furthermore, the composite exhibited excellent chemical and thermal stability, demonstrating robust environmental adaptability and regenerative performance. After five cycles of adsorption-thermal degradation, FeMg-LDO@BC maintained 80 % of its initial adsorption capacity. The thermal regeneration products were primarily composed of styrene, with the presence of alkenes and aromatic hydrocarbons, confirming the simultaneously degradation of nanoplastics and the regeneration of the biochar adsorbent.

The intermetallic PtBi/MgO/Mg monolithic catalyst was first prepared using non-equilibrium plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) technology. Spherical aberration-corrected transmission electron microscope (ACTEM) observation confirms the successful synthesis of the PtBi intermetallic structure. The efficiency of PtBi/Mg/MgO catalysts in catalyzing the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) to 4-aminophenol (4-AP) in the presence of NaBH4was demonstrated. The activity factor for the catalyst is 31.8 s−1g−1, which is much higher than reported values. In addition, the resultant catalyst also exhibits excellent catalytic activity in the organic pollutant reaction of p-nitrobenzoic acid (p-NBA) and methyl orange (MO). Moreover, benefiting from ordered atomic structures and the half-embedded PtBi nanoparticles (NPs), the catalyst demonstrates excellent stability and reproducibility in the degradation of 4-NP. This study provides an example of a simple method for the preparation of intermetallic structures as catalysts for organic pollutant degradation.

O3-type layered oxides are considered ideal cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) owing to their high theoretical capacities, but these materials undergo complex phase transitions during the Na + extraction and insertion, resulting in serious structural degradation and reduced cycling stability. Herein, we employ “Cu/Mg co-doping strategy” to synthesize a stable O3-type layered transition metal oxide NaNi 0.25 Cu 0.1 Mg 0.05 Fe 0.2 Mn 0.4 O 2 (NaNCMFMO) with excellent structural reversibility. The resulting NaNCMFMO achieves reversible specific capacity of 123 mAh g −1 at 0.1 C and remarkable improvement in capacity retention of 79.4 % over 300 cycles at 1.0 C, compared to the pristine NaNi 0.4 Fe 0.2 Mn 0.4 O 2 cathode (42.1 % retention after 300 cycles). Additionally, ex situ X-ray diffraction pattern of NaNCMFMO indicates a highly reversible phase evolution of O3-P3-O3 during charge/discharge cycles, and GITT measurements reveal faster Na + diffusion kinetics. Moreover, a NaNCMFMO//hard carbon full-cell battery exhibits superior electrochemical performance: a high reversible specific capacity of 105.1 mAh g −1 at 1.0 C and capacity retention of 81.1 % over 200 cycles. This work presents a facile and effective strategy to suppress structural degradation in O3-type layered cathodes materials of high-performance SIBs.

For alveolar bone defects, magnesium membrane with the mechanical properties of shielding fibrocyte growth and sustainable release of Mg 2+ is an excellent choice for guide bone regeneration (GBR) surgery. However, insufficient osteogenesis and bacterial infection have hindered its application. In this study, Mg-Ga-LDH coating was successfully prepared, which delayed the degradation rate of the Mg membranes and greatly reduced the amount of hydrogen evolution. A weakly alkaline microenvironment (pH =8.5) containing appropriate concentrations of Mg 2+ and Ga 3+ was successfully constructed, effectively promoting the adhesion and proliferation of MC3T3-E1 cells. It also upregulated the expression of alkaline phosphatase and collagen, which were conducive to the formation of mineralized nodules, and promoted the osteogenic differentiation of rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in vitro . In addition, Ga 3+ released from the coating and the generated alkaline microenvironment showed good antibacterial properties against S. aureus . The Mg-Ga-LDH coating can effectively reduce the degradation rate of Mg membranes and mitigate inflammation. The Mg-Ga-LDH coating modified Mg membrane promoted new bone formation in cranial defect animal models. This bone-promoting Mg 2+ and Ga 3+ releasing platform and weak alkaline microenvironment creation system paves the way for the application of Mg membranes in the field of GBR.

Herein, an efficient and stable catalyst of Co 3 O 4 @LDH-AC was innovatively prepared through uniform loading of an activated carbon substrate with Mg/Al layered double hydroxide (Mg/Al-LDH) followed by dispersing Co 3 O 4 nanoparticles in the confined space of LDH. This unique flower-like spherical structure significantly improved the adsorption capacity and would increase the concentration of reactants in the confined space. Experimental results showed that levofloxacin (LFX) completely degraded in 4 min with the addition of µM peroxymonosulfate (PMS). The fast conversion of Co 2+ and Co 3+ in catalyst for the generation of highly reactive species is revealed via EPR, in-situ Raman, in-situ FT-IR, and XPS. Further tests of 5Co 3 O 4 @LDH-AC in effluent of hospital wastewater treatment showed that it not only possessed strong anti-interference capabilities, but also maintained stable catalytic activity in fixed-bed reactor for a long operation time. Therefore, the excellent catalytic performance in confined space offers the possibility of application for the degradation of micropollutants in real pharmaceutical wastewater discharged from hospital (800–1200 tons/day, COD > 150 mg/L).

In this study, a composite material composed of Mg-MOF-74 and graphene oxide (GO) was synthesized to overcome MOFs’ limitations in CO 2 capture. At 273 K/101 kPa, the Mg-MOF-74 composite containing 6 wt% GO achieved 3.46 mmol/g CO 2 uptake and 114.4 CO 2 /N 2 selectivity, demonstrating 25.8 % and 29.3 % enhancements compared with pristine Mg-MOF-74. This enhancement is due to the optimization of CO 2 adsorption by the new pores formed at the interface and the strong affinity of GO functional groups for CO 2 molecules. Furthermore, due to the excellent properties of GO and its strong interaction with Mg-MOF-74, the composites show notable improvements in thermal, adsorption–desorption cycling, and moisture stability. Notably, the Mg-MOF-74 composite containing 6 wt% urea-modified GO exhibits optimal CO 2 adsorption/stability. This is not only due to the synergy between GO and Mg-MOF-74, but also because the amine groups and polar C O bonds in urea can boost adsorption/separation and enhance stability through amine-Mg 2+ coordination. These findings highlight Mg-MOF-74@GO composites as promising candidates for industrial CO 2 capture.

Composite biomaterial systems facilitate regenerative medicine through component synergy. Herein, novel core–shell nanocomposites (N-HMMs) are prepared, with hollow mesoporous silica (HMSNs) as the core and magnesium-gallic acid metal–organic frameworks (Mg-MOFs) as the shell. N-HMMs are loaded with the small-molecule osteoinductive drug naringin (Nar) to form N-HMMs@Nar, which is integrated into methacrylate gelatin/polyethylene glycol diacrylate hydrogels (GelMA/PEGDA, GP) to construct N-HMMs@Nar@GP. N-HMMs@Nar@GP enables sustained release of Nar, bioactive Mg2+, and antioxidant gallic acid for synergistic anti-inflammation, osteogenesis, and angiogenesis of bone regeneration. GP adapts N-HMMs@Nar to the traumatic characteristics of bone defects and facilitates in situ treatments. In vitro studies have confirmed the composite materials’ biocompatibility, osteoinductive differentiation, and angiogenesis capabilities. The ability of N-HMMs@Nar@GP to enhance osteogenesis and angiogenesis is demonstrated in an in vivo tibial defect model using micro-CT and histopathological analysis. Therefore, N-HMMs@Nar@GP holds significant potential for application in the repair of bone defects.

Based on the evaluation of sustained-release performance in aqueous solution, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and phosphate ions were selected as two anionic corrosion inhibitors with excellent inhibition properties. Using hydrothermal treatment, co-precipitation, and anion exchange techniques, LDH-P + S coatings containing both SDS and phosphate and MgAl-LDH coatings intercalated with silicate, phosphate, and SDS were successfully fabricated. The microstructure and composition of the various LDH coatings were characterized using XRD, FT-IR, XPS, SEM, and EDS. The corrosion resistance and durability of the LDH coatings were assessed using EIS, PDP, and hydrogen evolution tests. All four LDH coatings demonstrated good corrosion protection, with the LDH-P + S coating exhibiting slightly superior corrosion resistance compared with the others. Single-frequency EIS analysis was conducted to evaluate self-healing properties, indicating that the LDH-P + S coating performed the best in restoring protection. The superior self-healing behavior is primarily ascribed to the combined contribution of phosphate-induced passivation and SDS-mediated adsorption barrier formation.
