The design of functional materials with efficient light absorption and charge separation is crucial for photocatalytic energy conversion. Herein, a plasmonic TiN/TiO 2 /ReS 2 ternary hybrid is prepared, which exhibits exceptional photocatalytic activity caused by the plasmon-mediated light absorption and multi-interfacial charge separation. The ternary hybrids were synthesized by heating TiN, Re, and S sources at high pressure and temperature. The TiN was partially oxidized to form TiN/TiO 2 hybrids, which were then embedded in ReS 2 nanoflowers through Ti-S bonds, creating a 3D flower-like structure with multiple interfaces. The plasmon resonance of TiN and the bandgap excitations of ReS 2 and TiO 2 endow the hybrids with efficient light absorption in UV–VIS-NIR region. Additionally, the novel embedded structure and the multiple interfaces between TiN, TiO 2 , and ReS 2 facilitate the formation of built-in electric fields and multi-channel charge transfer, which efficiently quicken photoinduced carriers’ migration and hot electron injection. Consequently, the TiN/TiO 2 /ReS 2 hybrids demonstrate a high-efficiency photocatalytic hydrogen generation rate, which is 12.1 times that of commercial P25. Notably, the hybrids also exhibit high photocatalytic activity under near-infrared light irradiation. This study offers innovative insights into the design of photocatalysts and suggests that the prepared materials could be utilized in solar-driven energy conversion applications.

Tin-free self-polishing antifouling coatings have the highest market share since organotin self-polishing antifouling coatings have been banned. However, its high dependence on cuprous oxide was found to have caused potential harm to the environment, making it necessary to improve the functionality of the resin. In this paper, a zinc acrylate resin with side chain hanging indole derivative structure was prepared by using N-(1H-5-bromoindole-3-methylene) (BIAM) with good biological activity as functional monomer. The functional resin with good antifouling performance was selected by antibacterial and algae inhibition experiments. The results showed that when the BIAM content was 9 %, the inhibition rates of the resin on E. coli and Prymnesium parvum reached 98 % and 90 %, respectively. Tin-free self-polishing antifouling coatings were prepared using the above resins as film-forming materials. The anti-protein adsorption performance and antifouling performance of the coating were tested by anti-protein adsorption experiment and real sea hanging plate experiment. The results showed that the coating containing indole derivative structure had good anti-protein adsorption performance and antifouling performance, and the higher the BIAM content, the better the anti-protein adsorption performance and marine antifouling performance.

In this study, a spherogranular porous composite tin pyrophosphate antimonate (SSbPP) adsorbent was developed for the efficient extraction of rubidium (Rb) and cesium (Cs) resources. This granular composite adsorbent was prepared using the anti-solvent method with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) as carrier and the incorporated SSbPP powder as adsorbent. The composition , molecular structure, and adsorption performance of SSbPP, along with the microstructure and adsorption behavior of the granulated PVC-SSbPP adsorbent, were comprehensively investigated. The results showed that the SSbPP adsorbent with superior performance was synthesized at a Sn:Sb:P molar ratio of 0.5:0.25:2. The adsorption behavior of PVC-SSbPP was evaluated using the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm. The maximal adsorption capacities of PVC-SSbPP for Rb + and Cs + were found to be 81.3 mg g −1 and 95.23 mg g −1 at optimal condition, respectively. The PVC-SSbPP also exhibited high adsorption selectivity for Rb + /Cs + in the presence of competitive metal ions such as K + , Na + , Li + , Mg 2+ and Ca 2+ . Furthermore, through dynamic adsorption-desorption experiment using a fixed-bed column, a low-concentration Rb + /Cs + solution (10 mg L −1 ) could be concentrated by approximately 140 times. This research offers a promising approach for the selective extraction of low-concentration Rb and Cs resources from highly saline solutions.

The development of proton exchange membrane water electrolysis is a promising technology for hydrogen production, which has always been restricted by the slow kinetics of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Although IrOx is one of the benchmark acidic OER electrocatalysts, there are still challenges in designing highly active and stable Ir-based electrocatalysts for commercial application. Herein, a Ru-doped IrOx electrocatalyst with abundant twin boundaries (TB-Ru0.3Ir0.7Ox@ITO) is reported, employing indium tin oxide with high conductivity as the support material. Combing the TB-Ru0.3Ir0.7Ox nanoparticles with ITO support could expose more active sites and accelerate the electron transfer. The TB-Ru0.3Ir0.7Ox@ITO exhibits a low overpotential of 203 mV to achieve 10 mA cm–2 and a high mass activity of 854.45 A g–1noble metal at 1.53 V vs RHE toward acidic OER, which exceeds most reported Ir-based OER catalysts. Moreover, improved long-term stability could be obtained, maintaining the reaction for over 110 h at 10 mA cm–2 with negligible deactivation. DFT calculations further reveal the activity enhancement mechanism, demonstrating the synergistic effects of Ru doping and strains on the optimization of the d-band center (εd) position and the adsorption free energy of oxygen intermediates. This work provides ideas to realize the trade-off between high catalytic activity and good stability for acidic OER electrocatalysts.

Tin (Sn)-based perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) have garnered significant attention owing to their superior optoelectronic properties, affordable solution processing, and environmental friendliness. However, the properties of Sn-PeLEDs trail those of their lead (Pb) counterparts. The main obstacle is the easy oxidation of Sn2+ to Sn4+ as well as fast crystallization, leading to poor film quality with many defects. Herein, a convenient and effective interface engineering strategy is reported to fabricate (2-thiopheneethylamine)2SnI4 (TEA2SnI4) PeLEDs by introducing different peptides into the PEDOT:PSS hole-transport layer (HTL). Benefiting from the interaction between the peptide molecules and the Sn-perovskite nuclei, the crystallization dynamics are effectively adjusted, leading to an improved film morphology. At the same time, the multiple functional groups of peptides can suppress Sn2+ oxidation and passivate interface defects. Therefore, perovskite films with improved luminescence efficiency are obtained. The perovskite films are further used for the fabrication of pure red PeLEDs with enhanced performance. In particular, the optimized devices based on Leu-Gly-Gly (LGG) achieve a peak external quantum efficiency of 0.5% and a brightness of 136 cd m–2, which are about 2 and 3 times larger, respectively, than those of the reference device. This research offers a general strategy to improve the performance of Sn-PeLEDs via peptide interface engineering.

Tin-doped indium oxide (ITO) films are often used as transparent electrodes for optoelectronic applications such as electrochromic devices (ECDs) and solar cells. Preparing ITO films below intermediate temperatures (≤ 350 °C) has become a challenge that must be solved to expand their range of applications (such as all-solid-state ECDs based on phosphate proton conductors and flexible optoelectronic devices). This work aims to develop a practical technique for preparing ITO films at intermediate temperatures. The performances of ITO films prepared by sol-gel and magnetron sputtering methods at these temperatures were compared. The scattering effect of the organic residues in the film, such as the C–H and C C groups, hinders the substitution of Sn 4 + with In 3+ , the grain growth and the carrier migration, leading to poor carrier concentration and mobility. These factors hindered the preparation of highly transparent and conductive ITO films obtained by sol-gel method. By combining room temperature magnetron sputtering with heat treatment under an O 2 followed by a reducing atmosphere below 350 °C, a carbon-free ITO film with an average visible light transmittance of 87.0 % (with substrate) and a resistivity of 2.3 × 10 −4 Ω·cm was obtained. Further experiments investigated the feasibility of applying the obtained film in all-solid-state ECDs with ITO/tungsten oxide/phosphate proton conductor/nickel oxide/ITO structure. This ECD exhibits good electrochromic capabilities, particularly demonstrated by a bleached state transmittance of up tp 76 % at 650 nm, which endows it with outstanding transparency characteristics. This work not only clarifies the limitations and causes of the intermediate temperatures preparation of ITO films by sol-gel method, offering a theoretical reference for the selection of ITO film preparation technologies, but also lays a foundation for the development of novel substrate-free all-solid-state ECDs.

Improving the dispersion and compatibility of fillers in epoxy resin (EP) is crucial for enhancing the thermal stability, mechanical properties, and tribological performance of coatings. This study presents a novel biomimetic modification strategy. MoS2–TiN hybrid fillers are uniformly dispersed in the EP matrix and strongly bonded through comodification with polydopamine (PDA) and γ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (KH550). The successful synthesis of MoS2–TiN@(PDA+KH550) fillers is confirmed by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and dispersion tests show that the aggregation of MoS2 and TiN is alleviated. Compared to pure EP, the PDA@MoS2–KH550@TiN (2:1)/EP (PMT2@EP) coating shows significant improvements in several aspects. In terms of thermal stability, the residual carbon rate at 800 °C increased from 9.38 to 11.98%. For mechanical properties, the storage modulus increased by 7.2%, the glass transition temperature (Tg) increased by 24.6%, the tensile strength increased by 42.1%, the tensile modulus increased by 60.9%, the hardness increased by 58.3%, and the flexural strength increased by 59.1%. Additionally, the coating exhibits enhanced tribological performance, with a reduction in the friction coefficient of 81.8% (from 0.555 to 0.101) and a decrease in the wear rate of 77.8% (from 11.64 × 10–5 mm3/(N m) to 2.58 × 10–5 mm3/(N m)). This biomimetic interface design provides important experimental and technical support for developing high-performance, wear-resistant, low-friction EP coatings.

As cathode catalysts for lithium–oxygen batteries (LOBs), 2D materials are attracting significant attention due to their layered structures, tunable surface chemistry, and unique electronic states. However, catalytic anisotropy, particularly the poor catalytic capability of the van der Waals forces contained in stack edge planes, has suppressed the enhancement of LOB performance as 2D cathode catalysts. Here, an ion-intercalation strategy is proposed to diminish the catalytic anisotropy of 2D materials. Ag ions are successfully intercalated into SnSe 2 layered structure and regulate the electronic states between stack edge planes, leading to an improvement in the catalytic capability of 2D SnSe 2 . Notably, the catalytic capability of the 2D surface (001) plane of SnSe 2 is also significantly enhanced after Ag intercalation, which can efficiently accelerate charge transfer and suppress the passivation on the 2D surface plane during the oxygen reduction/evolution reaction process. As a consequence, the Ag-intercalated SnSe 2 cathode exhibits superior specific capacity of 16871 mAh g −1 and an ultrastable cycle life over 2300 h at a current density of 100 mA g −1 and 144 cycles at current density of 1000 mA g −1 . This work provides insights into the modulation of the catalytic capabilities of 2D materials, which have significant potential for this application in LOBs.

Yolk-shell SnO2 mesoporous double-layer nanotubes were synthesized in one-step by single nozzle electrospinning. Compared with the traditional electrospinning using polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as the precursor polymer to obtain the single nanotube material, two PVPs (PVPK88-96 and PVPK23-27) with different molecular weights in solution coupled with Sn2+ easily form the core-shell structure nanofiber through phase separation. The yolk-shell double-layer SnO2 nanotubes were obtained after calcination at 600 °C for 2 h. The yolk-shell SnO2 mesoporous double-layer nanotube is a promising sensing material toward 3-hydroxy-2-butanone as it shows high sensitivity, cycling stability, and selectivity. Moreover, the response and recovery times of the yolk-shell SnO2 mesoporous double-layer nanotubes toward 1 ppm 3-hydroxy-2-butanone were 122 s and 117 s.

Proton exchange membrane water electrolyzer (PEMWE) coupled with renewable energy is an ideal way to produce green hydrogen. However, the high load of precious metal catalysts and the requirement of catalyst durability in acidic environment restrict the large-scale application of PEM electrolyzers. Herein, an IrCo alloy electrocatalyst supported on metal titanium nitride (TiN) is synthesized, which has excellent acid oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity and durability. The electrocatalyst exhibits a low overpotential of 246 mV@10 mA cm −2 and a higher mass activity of 0.84 A mg Ir −1 at 1.53 V in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 . After stable operation for more than 220 h at 10 mA cm −2 , the degradation rate is negligible. When used as an anode catalyst (0.2 mg Ir cm −2 ) for the PEM electrolyzer, only 1.78 V is needed to reach 1.0 A cm −2 . The structure characterization and theoretical calculation (DFT) show that there is a strong electron coupling between TiN support and IrCo alloy. This unique effect regulates the d-band center of IrCo@TiN and optimizes the adsorption energy of the oxygen-containing intermediates, which effectively reduces the energy barrier of *O forming *OOH in the rate-determining step of OER catalytic reaction.

Zinc-leaching residue (ZLR) with 0.46% Sn and 54% Pb brings potential threats to environment but is worthy to recover valuable metals. Reduction of Sn(IV) to Sn(II) is critical for tin extraction. In this work, selective extraction and recovery of tin from ZLR via oxalic acid/sulfuric acid leaching and hydrolytic precipitation was proposed. Various reductants were attempted, and the oxalic acid shows superior tin leaching efficiency. The effects of reduction leaching and hydrolysis parameters on the separation of Sn and Pb were systematically investigated. After leaching by 24 g/L oxalic acid in 0.50 mol/L H 2 SO 4 at 60 °C for 30 min with L/S ratio of 10 mL/g and stirring speed of 400 r/min, 90.5% Sn is leached into the solution, and 99.8% Pb is simultaneously concentrated in the leaching residue. In the hydrolysis process , tin sediment with recovery of 93.8% and content of 46.4% was obtained. The as-prepared tin and lead products can directly act as concentrates for the tin and lead smelting . The oxalic acid reduction leaching mechanism of tin was also discussed. Based on the reduction leaching behaviors of tin from ZLR, the possible Sn leaching enhancement via oxalic acid addition in the existing industrial zinc-leaching process was proposed in this work.

In the catalytic transformation of biomass into valuable chemicals, it is extremely important to inhibit undesirable reactions to increase the yield of target products. In this study, the introduction of indium and tin into Beta zeolites promoted the transformation of glucose into lactic acid with a high yield of 53%. Selective experiments and a developed kinetic model confirmed the sensitivity of the main reaction rate to the action of tin, including those of the isomerization and retro-aldol condensation reactions, and shielding of the side reactions by indium. An in-depth analysis of the catalyst acidity showed that weak Lewis acidity in the indium and tin species promoted the main reaction steps, whereas the decreased amount of strong Lewis acidity by introduction of indium into the Sn-Beta catalyst suppressed the side reactions. The coupling of multifunctional active sites provides a new strategy for addressing challenges in commercial lactic acid production.
