Previous studies have proved that the promoted interactions with bacteria was closely responsible for the improved inactivation efficiency of photocatalysts. Herein, for the first time, the cationic polymer polyethyleneimine (PEI) grafted O-doped g-C 3 N 4 (denoted as PEI/OCN) was successfully fabricated by combination one-pot thermal-polymerization and subsequent covalent cross-linking reaction. Benefiting from the synergistic effect of O-doping and PEI-grafting, the obtained PEI/OCN possessed an extended and intensive visible light response, accelerated photogenerated charge transport, good hydrophilicity as well as enough electrostatic adhesion to bacteria. As a result, PEI/OCN exhibited a dramatically boosted reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and outstanding rapid photocatalytic bactericidal capability, achieving 7.0 log CFU mL −1 inactivation efficiency of Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) within 30 min visible light exposure. Radical trapping and electron spin resonance (ESR) experiments revealed that superoxide radicals ( • O 2 − ) were crucially dominated the superior photocatalytic disinfection activity. Overall, the presented work provided a rationally designing of novel metal-free g-C 3 N 4 -based photocatalysts for efficient elimination of bacterial contaminations.

The rapid advancement of bio-integrated electronics in recent years has been paralleled by increased interest in the research of stretchable, elastic, conductive, and multi-dimensional sensing electronic skin (e-skin) due to its potential integration with electronic devices and soft tissues. In this work, we presented the fabrication of a nature-skin derived e-skin, denoted as S-P/G@PU e-skin, achieved through an on-demand "top-down" strategy and a triple structure design, employing integrated in-situ polymerization, impregnation, and encapsulation techniques. The collagen fibers weaved hierarchical 3D structure of natural skin, was strategically employed to host conductive polypyrrole and combined with a binary solvent system of glycerin and water. Subsequently, this composite natural skin was coated with polyurethane films, resulting in the engineering of the S-P/G@PU e-skin. This innovative e-skin exhibited remarkable properties, including high tensile strength (8.76 MPa), excellent elasticity (0–180 %), anti-freezing capacity, moisture retention, substantial conductivity (6.3 S/m), and outstanding multi-dimensional sensing capabilities. Importantly, the S-P/G@PU e-skin functioned as both a slow adaptive resistance strain sensor and a fast adaptive single-electrode triboelectric nanogenerator , making it a versatile sensing system that enabled real-time monitoring of various physiological signals from the human body and wide-frequency vibration signals from devices such as cellphones and motors. This study serves as a proof of concept for transforming nature-skin into e-skin, showcasing the potential for integrated wearable electronics , artificial intelligence, and human-machine interfaces.

Background This study demonstrated an innovative formulation including the polyprenol (GBP) lipid and vitamin E-TPGS hybrid nanoparticles (NPs) which was aimed to control the transfer of betulinic acid (BA) and low-substituted hydroxyl fullerenol (C60(OH)n). Additionally, it developed BA-C60(OH)n-GBP-TPGS-NPs delivery system and researched the anti-hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) effects.Materials and Methods The NPs were prepared by nanoprecipitation with ultrasonic-assisted emulsification (UAE) method. It was characterized by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), FTIR spectrum, size distribution and zeta potential. Physical and chemical properties were evaluated through measurement of drug release, stability studies, drug loading efficiency (DE) and encapsulation efficiency (EE). Biological activities were evaluated through measurement of MTT assay, lactate dehydrogenase leakage assay (LDH), cell proliferation assays, cell apoptosis analysis, comet assay, wound healing assay, cell invasion and Western blot analysis. Results and Conclusions The NPs exhibited clear distribution characteristics, improved solubility and stability. BA and C60(OH)n for the NPs displayed a biphasic release pattern with sustained drug release properties. The mixture of C60(OH)n with different hydroxyl groups may have a certain effect on the stability of the NPs system itself. The NPs could effectively inhibit MHCC97H cell proliferation, migration and invasion in vitro. Combined use of C60(OH)n and BA in GBP lipids may improve the inhibit effect of C60(OH)n or BA against HCC cells and reduce cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of C60(OH)n for normal cells. We concluded that one of the important mechanisms of BA-C60(OH)n-GBP-TPGS-NPs inhibiting MHCC97H cells is achieved by up-regulating the expression of Caspase-3, Caspase-8 and Caspase-9.

A general ionic-assisted microwave-ultrasonic combined synthetic strategy was developed to fabricate Bi 2 E 3 (E = S, Se, and Te) hierarchitectures. To understand the crystal phase transformation and morphological evolution of Bi 2 S 3 hierarchical nanostructures, the fabrication of Bi 2 S 3 hierarchitectures was investigated by varying sulfidation time and chlorination time. A topotactic transformation from BiOCl microsphere to Bi 2 S 3 hierarchitectures was proposed. It was found that the structure, size, and morphology of Bi 2 S 3 hierarchitectures could be delicately engineered by varying chlorination time, alkyl chain length, and concentration of ionic liquid. Moreover, the as-prepared Bi 2 S 3 hierarchitectures displayed superior capacity of Cr(VI) photoreduction to P25 and irregular Bi 2 S 3 nanostructures under visible light irradiation. Effects of morphology, pH value of reaction system, Cr(VI) concentration, and catalyst dosage on the Cr(VI) photoreduction capacity of Bi 2 S 3 hierarchitectures were also discussed. The enhancement of photoreduction capacity is not only attributed to the intrinsic good electron transfer ability of Bi 2 S 3 , but also to synergetic effects of special architectures, wide photoresponse range, high light photoadsorption, high BET surface area and good electron-hole separation performance. The systematic condition experiments and Cr(VI) photoreduction in electroplating and tannery wastewater experiments further demonstrated that the hierarchical Bi 2 S 3 nanospheres can be used in the actual Cr(VI)-containing wastewater treatment.

Lignin is a plentiful and readily accessible renewable resource. Vanillylamine is a crucial raw material used to synthesize pharmaceuticals and high-value furan compounds that can be acquired by aminating lignin-derived vanillin (Van). However, effectually achieving the biocatalytic synthesis of vanillylamine has remained challenging. In this study, a dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)-H 2 O (1:9, vol/vol) bioreaction medium was constructed, and a recombinant E. coli ATA1012 carrying ω-transaminase from Caulobacter sp. D5 was used as the ω-transaminase biocatalyst to acquire the effectual biocatalytic synthesis of vanillylamine. Under optimized bioreaction conditions (37 ℃ and pH 7.5) by supplementary of isopropylamine (IPA) (Van/IPA = 1:5, mol/mol), 80–100 mM Van could be effectually converted by ATA1012 whole cells in DMSO-H 2 O (1:9, vol/vol) within 12 h, yielding 91.2 %–95.4 % vanillylamine, with >99 % selectivity. An efficient amination process was developed using ATA1012 with superior transaminase catalytic activity and substrate tolerance to effectively convert Van to vanillylamine in a DMSO-H 2 O medium.

Simultaneous inoculation of non- Saccharomyces cerevisiae during the alcoholic fermentation process has been found to be an effective strategy for enhancing wine flavor. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Torulaspora delbrueckii NCUF305.2 on the flavor of navel orange original brandy (NOOB) using E–nose combined with HS–SPME–GC–MS. The results showed a significant increase ( p < 0.05) in the sensitivity of NOOB to W5C, W3C, W1S, and W3S sensors by mixed fermentation (MF). Esters in NOOB increased by 4.13%, while higher alcohols increased by 21.93% ( p < 0.001), terpenes and others increased by 52.07% and 40.99% ( p < 0.01), respectively. Notably, several important volatile compounds with relative odor activity values above 10 showed an increase. Sensory analysis revealed that a more pronounced citrus-like flavor and higher overall appearance scores were found in MF than in pure fermentation (PF). These findings offer valuable theoretical guidance for enhancing the quality of fruit brandies.

In recent years, significant advancements in printed electronics and flexible materials have catalyzed the development of electronic skins for wearable applications. However, the low glass transition temperature of flexible substrates poses a challenge as it is incompatible with the high-temperature annealing required for electrode fabrication, thereby limiting the performance of flexible electronic devices. In this study, we address these limitations by proposing a novel flexible device manufacturing process that combines adhesive printing patterning with a transfer printing technology. By employing poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)/graphene nitride (GCN) as the transfer substrate and dielectric layer, we successfully fabricated a high-performance dual-mode touch sensor on a large scale. The successful development of this dual-mode sensor can be attributed to two key factors: the construction of a robust hydrogen-bonding network between the PVDF/GCN dielectric layer and the carbon electrode and the ability of GCN to restrict the movement of PVDF molecular chains within the dielectric layer. This restriction reduces the overall polarization of the film, enabling the formation of a complete device structure with a highly sensitive edge electric field. The noncontact sensors developed in this study are fully printable into sensor arrays and can be seamlessly integrated with internet of things technology for wearable applications. These sensors exhibit exceptional tactile response and facilitate effective human–machine interactions over extended distances, underscoring their significant potential in fields such as healthcare and artificial intelligence.

The ‘repurposed drug,’ disulfiram (DSF), is an inexpensive FDA-approved anti-alcoholism drug with multi-target anti-cancer effect. However, the use of DSF in clinical settings remains limited due to its high instability in blood. In the present study, we created nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) encapsulated DSF modified with d -α-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol 1000 succinate (vitamin E-TPGS). A spherical shape, superior drug encapsulation (80.7%), and decreased crystallinity of DSF were confirmed with results obtained from TEM, XRD, and DSC analysis. Addition of TPGS considerably improved the physicochemical stability profile of NLC-encapsulated DSF under the different conditions tested here. Furthermore, TPGS-DSF-NLCs outperformed unmodified DSF-NLCs and the free DSF solution by having significantly higher cytotoxicity, lower IC50 value (4T1: 263.2 nM and MCF-7: 279.9 nM), and an enhanced cellular uptake in MCF7 and 4T1 cell lines. In vivo anti-tumor analysis in 4T1 murine xenograft model mice revealed a significant (p-value < 0.05) decrease in tumor volume and higher tumor growth inhibition rate (48.24%) with TPGS-DSF-NLC treatment as compared to both the free DSF solution (8.49%) and DSF-NLC formulations (29.2%). Histopathology analysis of tumor tissues further confirmed a noticeably higher anti-tumor activity of TPGS-DSF-NLC through augmented cell necrosis in solid tumors. Hence, the present study established that addition of TPGS can synergize the anti-cancer activity of NLC-encapsulated DSF formulations, and thus, offer a promising anti-cancer delivery system for DSF.

It is an urgent need of rapid and sensitive method for detection of Escherichia coli O157:H7 ( E. coli O157:H7), a class of hazardous foodborne pathogens in food safety. The traditional enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), a dominant rapid detection technic, takes disadvantages of low test sensitivity due to the insufficient enzyme loading capacity. In this study, we successfully synthesized the self-assembled Au/polydopamine (PDA)/HRP nanocomposites with the high enzyme loading on the outer surface and in the inner space. The high catalytic activity of Au/PDA/HRP was maintained by virtue of its hyperbranched flexible structure. For E. coli O157:H7 detection in milk samples, the proposed immunoassay achieved a visual cut-off value of 10 3 cfu mL −1 and a low limit of detection (LOD) of 2.8 × 10 2 cfu mL −1 , 33 and 46 times more sensitive than the traditional ELISA, respectively. The tremendous advantages of high sensitivity, excellent specificity and adequate recovery make it promising for sensitively monitoring various kinds of pathogenic bacteria in food safety.

Ginger-processed Eucommiae Cortex (G-EC) is a traditional herbal preparation with a long history of clinical application. However, the lack of quantitative standards, undefined chemical transformation pathways, and unidentified quality markers (Q-markers) have hindered its modernization. In this study, we developed an integrated analytical strategy combining comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC×GC-TOF-MS), multivariate statistical analysis, and electronic nose (E-nose) technology to systematically investigate the volatile compound profile and sensory characteristics of Eucommiae Cortex (EC) before and after ginger processing. A total of 2806 volatile compounds were identified in G-EC, including 173 newly generated and 64 eliminated compared to EC. Sixty-five key flavor compounds were characterized, with enhanced woody, herbal, fresh, and minty notes in G-EC. E-nose analysis revealed distinct volatile signatures between EC and G-EC, with alkanes, alcohols, and sulfur-containing compounds as major differentiators. Furthermore, machine learning models combined with SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) enabled accurate classification and interpretation of key chemical features. In conclusion, this study provides novel insights into the chemical transformation induced by ginger processing and offers a theoretical basis for the standardization and modernization of traditional Chinese medicine processing techniques.

The authors report on a surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) nanoprobe for the specific detection of Escherichia coli O157:H7 ( E. coli O157:H7). Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were coated with a thick silica shell, and the Raman reporter (4,4′-dipyridyl) was embedded between gold nanoparticle and silica shell. This technique prevents any external effects on the AuNPs from the environment and avoids any interaction between the Raman reporter and possible impurities. Compared to the SERS nanoprobe of the conventional AuNP/AgNP type, the present nanoprobe can be applied in complex biochemical circumstances without aggregation because of its excellent stability. The SERS nanoprobeis stable for up to 50 h. The probe was applied to the SERS detection of E. coli O157:H7 by exploiting the Raman band peaking at 1612 cm −1 of 4,4′-dipyridyl (DP). The limit of detection is as low as 10 CFU·mL −1 . The technique was successfully employed to the detection of E. coli O157:H7 in real samples, achieving recoveries between 95.5 and 114.8%.
