Electronic devices not only face electromagnetic interference issues but also must address challenges such as performance degradation and reduced reliability caused by heat accumulation. Therefore, the development of dual-functional microwave absorbing materials (MAMs) that possess both efficient microwave absorption and excellent thermal management performance has become a crucial and urgent material science issue to be addressed. This study successfully fabricated flower-like multi-shell hollow microsphere/boron nitride (FMSHS/BN) composites through a combined strategy of surface modification, electrostatic self-assembly, and sequential templating. The SEM and TEM images of the FMSHS/BN-6 (the BN content is 60 mg) reveal that FMSHS is uniformly distributed between the BN layers, effectively mitigating the issue of local impedance mismatch caused by agglomeration. As a result, the FMSHS/BN-6 exhibited exceptional microwave absorption performance, achieving a minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of -61.73 dB and a maximum effective absorption bandwidth (EABmax) of 5.60 GHz. Meanwhile, the thermal conductivity of the composite reached 3.87 W/(m·K), representing a 921% improvement compared to that of pure FMSHS (0.42 W/(m·K)). These results demonstrate that the FMSHS/BN-6 realizes the synergistic integration of efficient thermal management and outstanding microwave absorption via a "two birds with one stone" design strategy, showing great potential for addressing thermal accumulation and high-frequency electromagnetic interference in electronic devices.

The development of highly selective and sensitive fluorescence-based nanoprobes for monitoring Fe 3+ concentration is important in environmental analyses. Herein, unique metal complex precursors involving triethanolamine (TEA) and zinc acetate Zn(OAc)₂ were designed to synthesize carbon quantum dots (CDs) via hydrothermal carbonization approach. The prepared water-soluble Zn N codoped CDs are ∼2.9 nm in size and exhibit excitation-dependent blue emission and good photostability. Zn 2+ ions, coordinated via Zn-TEA complexes, are incorporated into the carbon matrix and function as anchors to bridge and stabilize sp 2 domains. The CDs serve as an ideal platform for sensitive detection of Fe 3+ in aqueous media through fluorescence quenching, with a detection limit of 3.48 μM, which is below the water quality standard for Fe 3+ (0.3 ppm, ∼5.36 μM) in drinking water suggested by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Interference studies reveal that the presence of 17 other competing ions does not alter the sensing of Fe 3+ , indicating the high selectivity of the CDs toward Fe 3+ , while the fluorescence quenching mechanism is attributed to the formation of non-fluorescent complexes between Fe 3+ and surface functional groups of the CDs, leading to nonradiative recombination. Simultaneously, Zn high concentration favors the preparation of ZnO microsphere pigment composed of nanocrystals through TEA ligand modified bridge effect.

Recyclable LZPS hydrogel microspheres were successfully synthesized. • LZPS microspheres revealed remarkable adsorption capacity towards Eu(III) and Pb(II). • LZPS microspheres displayed excellent stability in removal of Eu(III) and Pb(II). • Long-term field studies on Eu(III) and Pb(II) behaviors in medium were required. • Multicomponent synergy enhanced adsorption capacity and ion selectivity. With the fast growth of the nuclear industry and application of radioisotopes, the pollution of aquatic environments with radionuclides and heavy metals has become increasingly severe. Thus, there is a pressing demand to develop novel adsorbent materials with high efficiency, high selectivity, and good recyclability. Herein, a novel zinc-aluminum layered double hydroxide/zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 integrated with polydopamine functionalized sodium alginate hydrogel microsphere (Zn Al-LDH/ZIF-67/PDA/SA, denoted as LZPS), was successfully synthesized to achieve the efficient enrichment of Eu(Ⅲ) and Pb(Ⅱ). As revealed by characterization measurements, the hydrogel microsphere was successfully constructed with abundant surface functional groups contributing to the prominent adsorption behavior of the adsorbent. The impact of diverse environmental factors on the adsorption behavior of LZPS for Eu(Ⅲ) and Pb(Ⅱ) in wastewater was systematically examined through macroscopic experiments. The experimental conclusions demonstrated that LZPS exhibited excellent adsorption capability toward Eu(Ⅲ) and Pb(Ⅱ). Adsorption equilibrium for Eu(Ⅲ) and Pb(Ⅱ) was attained within 150 min, and the pseudo-second-order model offered a satisfactory description of the adsorption kinetic data. At 303 K, the maximum adsorption capacity of Eu(Ⅲ) and Pb(Ⅱ) using Langmuir model was 2.10 × 10 −3 mol/g and 9.28 × 10 −4 mol/g, respectively. It was confirmed by XPS analysis that Eu(Ⅲ) and Pb(Ⅱ) adsorption on LZPS was predominantly driven by electrostatic interaction, ion exchange, surface complexation, and reduction reaction. Overall, the LZPS hydrogel microsphere was possessed significant application prospects and potential practical value for the efficient treatment of Eu(Ⅲ) and Pb(Ⅱ) in nuclear wastewater. The monodisperse pillar[5]arene-based polymeric sub-microsphere was prepared by polycondensation of hydroxylated pillar[5]arene and cyanuric chloride through a one-pot reaction in mild condition. The preparation was realized by a simple two-step temperature-programmed process without heating operation. The obtained polymeric sub-microsphere exhibited monodisperse and regular spherical structure with uniform particle size distribution of 220–320 nm accounting for 94%. The prominent adsorption capacity of the polymeric sub-microsphere for antioxidants was demonstrated and attributed to the synergistic effect of the cladding interaction with the π-electron rich cavity and hydrophilic interaction with terminal hydroxyl on pillar[5]arene. Then the pillar[5]arene sub-microsphere was packed into a micro-column to realize effective on-line enrichment of antioxidants coupling with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The flow rate of extraction and desorption solvent, clean-up and desorption volume were assessed to optimize the method. The method showed wide linear ranges with R 2 greater than 0.9926, low limits of detection (0.030–0.20 μg/L) and limits of quantification (0.10–0.67 μg/L). The developed method was successfully applied to determine trace antioxidants in the migration of food contact materials with simulated solution, which demonstrated the promising potential of this method for practical analysis. Furthermore, the migration behavior of antioxidants from food packaging materials into different food matrix was also investigated.

In this work, semi-automated filter micro-solid phase extraction (SA-FμSPE) packed by urea–formaldehyde (UF) microspheres coupled with corona discharge ionization-ion mobility spectrometry (CD-IMS) was developed for the extraction and determination of fentanyl and nor-fentanyl in urine samples. UF microspheres, synthesized by aqueous polymerization, can be used to achieve effective extraction of analytes through multiple adsorption interactions such as hydrophobic, dipole–dipole and hydrogen bonding interactions. UF microspheres dispersed in methanol were packed in the filter by syringe, and the extraction process was performed by a portable automatic filter extraction device. The parameters affecting extraction efficiency (i.e., extraction time, the flow rate of extraction, pH value, amount of sorbent, ionic strength, cycle times of desorption, and type of eluent) were investigated. Then, the eluate containing fentanyl and nor-fentanyl was simultaneously analyzed by CD-IMS in positive mode. Under the optimal extraction conditions, the detection limits for the target compounds were 5.00 ng mL −1 and 8.00 ng mL −1 , respectively. The spiked recoveries were in the range of 81.97 % −112.37 % by testing the real samples and validated by UHPLC-MS. Thus, the satisfactory results reveal that SA-FμSPE coupled with CD-IMS has great potential for on-site extraction and detection of fentanyl and nor-fentanyl in urine samples.

Vanillin (VAN), methyl vanillin (VER), and ethyl vanillin (EVA) are widely used as flavor enhancers in processed foods. Monitoring their levels is essential to prevent overuse or adulteration, especially in infant foods. Herein, a computational chemistry-aided molecular modeling technique was employed to design specific haptens for VAN, VER, and EVA. High-affinity monoclonal antibodies were generated via hybridoma technology with matrix effect-enhanced screening, yielding half-maximal inhibitory concentrations of 22.10, 49.94, and 40.84 ng/mL. A multiplex quantum dot microsphere-based fluorescence lateral flow immunoassay was developed for the simultaneous detection of VAN, VER, and EVA in infant formula and rice. The quantitative detection ranges in infant formula were 6.31–142.59, 24.07–119.88, and 23.34–214.77 μg/kg; in rice, the detection ranges were 6.71–143.63, 18.51–183.75, and 21.42–167.65 μg/kg. The method was validated through spiked recovery tests and real sample analysis, demonstrating its accuracy and reliability for rapid, high-throughput screening applications.
