s The tribological properties of lubricating oil during service life largely depend on the properties of lubricant additives . Herein, we present a hydrothermal synthesis of magnesium silicate hydroxide (MSH)-MoS 2 nanocomposite and evaluate its tribological performances and repairing properties on worn surfaces as lubricant additive in poly-alpha-olefin (PAO). The microstructure of MSH-MoS 2 powders is MSH nanotubes surrounded by layered MoS 2 . The tribological test results show that the anti-friction performance and wear resistance of the friction pair were improved by 27.7% and 37.4%, respectively, after adding 1.0 wt% MSH-MoS 2 into PAO. More importantly, the worn volume of the friction disk can be repaired by 33.2% after sliding 5 h under the lubrication of PAO with MSH-MoS 2 . The superior tribological performance should be attributed to the formation of robust tribofilm with low shear strength , high hardness, strong resistance to plastic deformation , and high bonding strength on the sliding surface.

The fast and accurate detection of residual veterinary antibiotics in food has great significance for the ecological balance and human health. This study presents a room temperature phosphorescence aptasensing system for sulfadimethoxine (SDM) detection with sulfadimethoxine-aptamer (SDM-APT) modified manganese doped ZnS quantum dots (Mn-ZnS QDs) as the signaling and recognition unit. The signal amplification was achieved by petal-like molybdenum disulfide nano sheets (MoS 2 NS). As the selective adsorption of single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) on MoS 2 NS, SDM-APT-Mn-ZnS QDs are assembled on the surface of MoS 2 NS, and lead to the efficient phosphorescence quenching of Mn-ZnS QDs. Once SDM is brought in the sensing system, the specific interaction between SDM-APT and SDM will switch the conformation of SDM-APT from random coil to hairpin structure, resulting in the exfoliation of SDM-APT-Mn-ZnS QDs from MoS 2 NS, along with the phosphorescence recovery. This SDM detection system has a linear range from 2.0 ng/mL to 400 ng/mL with LOD as 0.91 ng/mL (S/N = 3) at the optimal experimental condition. The feasibility, specificity and recovery have been verified from the detection of real samples, interfering experiments and standard recovery experiments. The SDM detection system may also be applied to other residual veterinary drugs with different aptamers.

Two-dimensional (2D) photodetectors based on semiconducting transitional metal chalcogenides (TMDs) have attracted much attention because of its unique mechanical and opto-electronic properties which can be integrated into nanoscale-sized opto-electronic devices and complex circuits. However, the photodetection range of 2D TMDs materials based detectors are generally limited within the visible range due to its intrinsic relatively large band-gap. In addition, 2D TMDs materials also suffers from weak light absorption inherited from their atomically thin layers, resulting in a photoresponsivity that can be further improved. Herein, by combining 2D MoS 2 with zero-dimensional (0D) PbSe quantum dots (QDs) and Au nanocrystals (NCs), a novel 2D-0D photodetector (i.e., MoS 2 /PbSe@Au) is fabricated. Our MoS 2 /PbSe@Au photodetector exploits the 2D MoS 2 as the conduction channels and PbSe@Au NCs as light sensitizer, which promote the absorption of the entire device and enable appreciable photodetection extending to the near-infrared (NIR). Prominently, the mixed-dimensional photodetector exhibits high responsivity of 1.22 A/W and detectivity of 1.56*10 9 Jones (cm·Hz 1/2 ·W −1 ) at NIR (e.g., 1064 nm) compared with the MoS 2 photodetector with PbSe QDs only, which are ascribed to the more efficient two-step charge transfer process between PbSe and MoS 2 with the presence of Au NCs. We further identify the new carrier multiplication mechanism when comparing the photoresponse of our photodetectors at 405 nm and 635 nm. We found the extremely high EQE of MoS 2 /PbSe@Au photodetector at the wavelength of 405 nm (268.1%) could be ascribed to the synergism of carrier multiplication (CM) in PbSe QDs and the photo-gating effect induced by Au nanoparticles. Our study demonstrates that the novel mixed-dimensional photodetectors based on CVD-grown MoS 2 may provide a new route for designing and realizing high-performance optoelectronic devices with harvesting merits of hybrid nanomaterials.

Designing and building high-performance bifunctional electrocatalysts is critical for water splitting. Herein, an efficient P-doped molybdenum disulfide/nickel subsulfide (abbreviated as P-MoS2/Ni3S2/NF hereafter) catalyst was rationally prepared through a facile one-step hydrothermal process. The heterogeneous structure formed by the combination of MoS2 and Ni3S2 can improve the electrolytic performance of water in an alkaline medium. The addition of a P source in the reaction reduces the agglomeration of the catalyst, and the electronic structure of MoS2/Ni3S2 is simultaneously optimized by the doped P atoms in MoS2, thus promoting conductivity and increasing the valence state of the Ni species. Low overpotentials of only 136 mV and 95 mV are required to generate 10 mA cm−2 for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), respectively. Most significantly, when P-MoS2/Ni3S2/NF is used as the cathode and anode for the electrolysis of water, a voltage of 1.48 V is required to produce 10 mA cm−2. This work provides feasible ideas for the rational construction of bifunctional catalysts with outstanding performance, which may offer a reference for designing non-precious electrocatalysts for water splitting.

Due to their unique tubular and spiral structure, graphene and graphene oxide nanoscrolls (GONS) have shown extensive applications in various fields. However, it is still a challenge to improve the optoelectronic application of graphene and GONS because of the zero bandgap of graphene. Herein, ammonium tetrathiomolybdate ((NH4)2MoS4) was firstly wrapped into the ((NH4)2MoS4@GONS) by molecular combing the mixture of (NH4)2MoS4and GO solution on hydrophobic substrate. After thermal annealing, the (NH4)2MoS4and GO were converted to MoS2nanosheets and reduced GO (RGO) simultaneously, and, thus, the MoS2@RGONS was obtained. Raman spectroscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy were used to confirm the formation of MoS2nanosheets among the RGONS. The amount of MoS2wrapped in RGONS increased with the increasing height of GONS, which is confirmed by the atomic force microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The as-prepared MoS2@RGONS showed much better photoresponse than the RGONS under visible light. The photocurrent-to-dark current ratios of photodetectors based on MoS2@RGONS are ~570, 360 and 140 under blue, red and green lasers, respectively, which are 81, 144 and 35 times of the photodetectors based on RGONS. Moreover, the MoS2@RGONS-based photodetector exhibited good power-dependent photoresponse. Our work indicates that the MoS2@RGONS is expected to be a promising material in the fields of optoelectronic devices and flexible electronics. Keywords:ammonium tetrathiomolybdate;thermal annealing;MoS2@reduced graphene oxide nanoscroll;photosensitivity;photodetection

Mercury ions (Hg 2+ ) are highly toxic and can cause serious harm to the environment and human health. In this study, we prepared a novel electrochemical sensor based on an electrode coated with chitosan/graphene oxide/molybdenum disulfide/Au nanoparticles (chitosan/GO/MoS 2 /AuNPs) and thymine-Hg 2+ -thymine base pair to detect trace Hg 2+ in water. This method effectively utilized the affinity of MoS 2 to immobilize deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) on the electrode surface and enabled the amplification of the electrochemical signals detected by the sensor. The specific binding of the thymine-Hg 2+ -thymine base pair and the electrochemical activity of MoS 2 successfully reduced the detection limit of Hg 2+ and rendered it interference resistant. In the presence of Hg 2+ , a double-stranded structure was formed on the electrode after the interaction between Hg 2+ and DNA, which caused the change of the oxidation current signal of the electrode surface. The sensor showed good linearity ranging from 0.01 μg/L to 4 μg/L with a correlation coefficient of 0.991, and the limit of detection was found to be 5.8 ng/L. This portable chitosan/GO/MoS 2 /AuNPs modified electrode showed satisfactory recovery in tap water samples, thus demonstrating its potential for application in trace Hg 2+ detection.

In this work, MoS 2 -reduced graphene oxide (rGO) composites were prepared by a simple hydrothermal reaction and characterized by SEM, Raman, XRD, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The obtained MoS 2 -rGO/GCE was used for electrochemical investigation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) by cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and chronocoulometry (CC). It was found that the MoS 2 -rGO/GCE exhibited good stability and could enhance current response of AgNP electrooxidation effectively. On the basis, a new electrochemical method was developed to detect AgNPs in aqueous solution. The proposed method exhibited satisfactory analytical performance for AgNP detection with the limit of detection (LOD) as 2.63 ng/L and the linear range from 5 to 120 ng/L. The determination assays in water samples by MoS 2 -rGO/GCE were also discussed. The assay recoveries in water samples were obtained as 94.9–99.4%. That suggested a promising application prospect in environmental analysis. Graphical abstract The MoS 2 -rGO/GCE enhanced the electrochemical response of AgNPs, which are attributed from the Ag absorbability of MoS 2 and the electrochemical signal amplification of rGO. This finding resulted in a new electrochemical approach to simple detection of AgNPs in water

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), as a biomarker in a series of physiological processes, plays a crucial role in investigating the pathogenesis of some diseases. The highly sensitive and selective detection of H2O2 release from living cells has aroused tremendous research interests. Herein, a non-enzymatic electrochemical H2O2 biosensor was constructed based on AgPt bimetallic nanoparticle-structured MoS2 nanohybrid (AgPt/MoS2) as an electrocatalyst. The AgPt/MoS2 nanohybrid was successfully synthesized by a facile wet-chemical method. Compared with AgPt nanoparticles, the AgPt/MoS2 nanohybrid exhibited significant enhancement in catalytic performance towards H2O2. The main factor is that MoS2 nanosheets as a supporting material promote AgPt nanoparticles to expose more active sites. The electrochemical response of the AgPt/MoS2 hybrid-based biosensor to H2O2 was linear in the range of 20 μM–4 mM, and the detection limit was calculated as 1.0 μM. To prove practicality, the biosensor was further applied to detect H2O2 release from living SMMC-7721 cells. These results indicate the potential applications of the developed biosensor in monitoring physiological processes.

To better understand the mechanisms of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 )’s decomposition and reactive oxygen species (ROS)’s formation on the catalyst’s surface is always a critical issue for the environmental application of Fenton/Fenton-like reaction. We here report a new approach to activate H 2 O 2 in a co-catalytic Fenton system with oxygen incorporated MoS 2 , namely MoS 2− x O x nanosheets. The MoS 2− x O x nanosheets assisted co-catalytic Fenton system exhibited superior degradation activity of emerging antibiotic contaminants (e.g., sulfamethoxazole). Combining density functional theory (DFT) calculation and experimental investigation, we demonstrated that oxygen incorporation could improve the intrinsic conductivity of MoS 2− x O x nanosheets and accelerate surface/interfacial charge transfer, which further leads to the efficacious activation of H 2 O 2 . Moreover, by tuning the oxygen proportion in MoS 2− x O x nanosheets, we are able to modulate the generation of ROS and further direct the oriented-conversion of H 2 O 2 to surface-bounded superoxide radical (·O 2 surface − ). It sheds light on the generation and transformation of ROS in the engineered system (e.g., Fenton, Fenton-like reaction) for efficient degradation of persistent pollutants.

The construction of heterojunctions can effectively improve the electron transport rate and photocatalytic activity. In this work, nanoflower-like S-scheme heterojunction MoS2/NiAl-LDH was successfully synthesized. The results indicated that the hydrogen yield of the MoS2/NiAl-LDH composite catalyst reached 229.5 μmol in 5 hours under visible light irradiation by adjusting the pH value of the sacrificial agent and the amount of eosin. The crystal structure and morphological characteristics of the composite were analyzed by XRD, SEM and TEM. The visible light response degree and charge separation and transfer rates of photogenerated carriers of the composite were analyzed by UV-Vis DRS, PL and electrochemistry. The electronic transfer path was also analyzed by XPS. The construction of S-scheme heterojunctions can realize effective separation of electron–hole pairs and ensure that the photo-induced carriers with the strongest redox ability can be retained to participate in the photocatalytic reaction. In addition, the feasible mechanism of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution is given. This work will provide different insights into the enhancement of hydrogen evolution by heterojunctions formed by binary semiconductors.

Direct hydrazine fuel cells (DHFCs) fuel has drawn significant attention due to its characteristics of high energy density. Substantial effort is still needed to explore sustainable and efficient catalysts for hydrazine oxidation reaction (HzOR). Herein, inspired by reducing solvents that can protect the precursors of nanomaterials from oxidation, oxygen-doped MoS 2 nanoflowers with sulfur vacancies (O-rich MoS 2 ) were prepared via a simple synthesis method using the readily available ethanol/water as the solvent and applied as electrocatalyst for HzOR. It is found that the ratio of ethanol to water has a significant influence on the morphology of MoS 2 and the catalytic performance of hydrazine oxidation. Moreover, the concept of O-doping is proposed by introducing oxygen atoms to mostly replace bulk S atoms in the oxidation process of nanomaterials. The sulfur vacancy and doping were regarded as the main active site for the HzOR. Accordingly, the onset potential of the prepared electrocatalyst is 0.5 V vs. RHE in a 1 M KOH/0.1 M hydrazine electrolyte. This doping method can provide new ideas for improving the construction of hydrazine oxidation catalysts in the future.

Electrochemical ammonia synthesis (EAS) is considered to be an ecofriendly and sustainable method for artificial N 2 fixation. It is urgent to develop cost-effective and efficient electrocatalysts for EAS because present catalysts have low activity and poor selectivity. Herein, Fe 2 O 3 nanoparticles anchored on MoS 2 nanoflowers (Fe 2 O 3 @MoS 2 ) were developed as a highly efficient EAS electrocatalyst under ambient conditions. Electrochemical measurements indicate that Fe 2 O 3 @MoS 2 achieves a remarkable NH 3 yield of 112.15 μg h −1 mg cat −1 at − 0.6 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) and a high faradaic efficiency (FE) of 8.62% at − 0.4 V vs. RHE in 0.1 M Na 2 SO 4 , much better than the EAS performance of separate MoS 2 and Fe 2 O 3 . The superior electrochemical stability is confirmed by long-term (at least 24 h) continuous tests. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations show that Fe 2 O 3 @MoS 2 , compared to MoS 2 , is better able to activate inert N 2 molecules, as reflected by its greater adsorption energy (−0.32 eV vs. − 0.10 eV), greater N≡N bond distance (1.223 Å vs. 1.159 Å), lower energy barrier (0.40 eV vs. 0.78 eV), and greater charge transfer from active sites to N 2 molecules (1.16 e − vs. 0.62 e − ). Thus, this work provides new perspectives on the development of efficient EAS catalysts using MoS 2 -based materials as the substrate.
