Effect of chemical bond characteristics on the microwave dielectric properties of olivine-type LiTmRO4 (R = Si, Ge) ceramics

Su Congxue,Tao Wenlong,Chen Lianchun,Che Haiyan,Wang Ruijuan,Fan Jun,Qin Xingliu,Chen Zhilin,Fang Liang

Orthorhombic olivine-structured LiTmRO 4 (R = Si, Ge) ceramics were synthesized using a solid-state reaction. Promising microwave dielectric properties of ε r  = 8.18, τ f  = 13.7 ppm/°C and a high-quality factor ( Q  ×  f ) of 24,274 GHz for LiTmSiO 4 were obtained at 1130 °C, and ε r  = 8.67, τ f  =  − 24.4 ppm/°C and Q  ×  f  = 19,231 GHz for LiTmGeO 4 were achieved at 1090 °C. According to the bond valence results, Tm 3+ and Ge 4+ presented a compressed state, but Li + exhibited a strong rattling state in LiTmGeO 4 , which led to a higher ε r than ε theo . The integrated effect of the rattling cations (Li + and Si 4+ ) and a compressed cation (Tm 3+ ) in LiTmSiO 4 resulted in a smaller positive deviation ∆ ε r . The larger packing fraction of LiTmSiO 4 contributed to a higher Q  ×  f than that of LiTmGeO 4 . The R–O bond in both ceramics played a leading role in influencing Q  ×  f according to the Phillips–Van Vechten–Levine chemical bond theory.

A 3D flexible conductive network skeleton by SWCNT-COOH and PVA-PAA enabling high performance for Si anode

Fuzhen Li,Ying Xu,Ling Chen,Jinghao Xie,Li Jiang,Zhongxin Liang,Guojing Zang,Zishou Zhang

Silicon anode undergoes dramatic volume expansion during charge and discharge, causing structural and interfacial instability that severely degrades battery cycling performance. Herein, we propose a three-dimensional (3D) flexible self-standing SiMP/SWCNT-COOH@PVA/PAA anode, in which carboxylation-modified single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT-COOH) construct a highly conductive and flexible skeleton to provide rapid electron transport channels for micron silicon (SiMP), while polyacrylic acid-polyvinyl alcohol (PVA-PAA) cross-linking layer forms a high-strength polymer interface to strengthen the conductive skeleton and helps to maintain the structural integrity of SiMP. The resulting electrode exhibits ultra-high electrical conductance (12406 S m −1 ) and exceptional mechanical characteristic (tensile strength of 46.95 MPa). More importantly, it demonstrates extremely stable electrochemical properties, with an impressive maximum capacity of approximately 2868.5 mAh g −1 at 0.2C, while retaining an exceptional 96.49 % of capacity even after 100 cycles. A consistent capacity of 1000 mAh g −1 at 1C throughout 1000 cycles is also realized. Furthermore, a flexible full battery based on SiMP/SWCNT-COOH@PVA/PAA anode achieves a discharge capacity of 49.5 mAh g −1 following 100 cycles, and illuminates a LED strip normally under various bending conditions. These results are expected to open a new way towards enhanced performance silicon-based electrodes within flexible LIBs.

Si-Wu-Tang attenuates liver fibrosis via regulating lncRNA H19-dependent pathways involving cytoskeleton remodeling and ECM deposition

Jiaorong QU,Xiaoyong XUE,Zhixing WANG,Zhi MA,Kexin JIA,Fanghong LI,Yinhao ZHANG,Ruiyu WU,Fei ZHOU,Piwen ZHAO,Xiaojiaoyang LI

ABSTRACT Liver fibrosis is a dynamic wound-healing response characterized by the agglutination of the extracellular matrix (ECM). Si-Wu-Tang (SWT), a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula, is known for treating gynecological diseases and liver fibrosis. Our previous studies demonstrated that long non-coding RNA H19 (H19) was markedly upregulated in fibrotic livers while its deficiency markedly reversed fibrogenesis. However, the mechanisms by which SWT influences H19 remain unclear. Thus, we established a bile duct ligation (BDL)-induced liver fibrosis model to evaluate the hepatoprotective effects of SWT on various cells in the liver. Our results showed that SWT markedly improved ECM deposition and bile duct reactions in the liver. Notably, SWT relieved liver fibrosis by regulating the transcription of genes involved in the cytoskeleton remodeling, primarily in hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), and influencing cytoskeleton-related angiogenesis and hepatocellular injury. This modulation collectively led to reduced ECM deposition. Through extensive bioinformatics analyses, we determined that H19 acted as a miRNA sponge and mainly inhibited miR-200, miR-211, and let7b, thereby regulating the above cellular regulatory pathways. Meanwhile, SWT reversed H19-related miRNAs and signaling pathways, diminishing ECM deposition and liver fibrosis. However, these protective effects of SWT were diminished with the overexpression of H19 in vivo . In conclusion, our study elucidates the underlying mechanisms of SWT from the perspective of H19-related signal networks and proposes a potential SWT-based therapeutic strategy for the treatment of liver fibrosis.

Performance Degradation Mechanism of the Si@N, S-Doped Carbon Anode in Sulfide-Based All-Solid-State Batteries

Feng Sun,Zhihui Ma,Shenghai Xin,Yidi Fu,Ping Li,Jianbin Li,Qi Wan,Xuanhui Qu

Silicon (Si) anode is a promising anode material for all-solid-state lithium batteries with ultra-high theoretical specific capacity and low lithium dendrite risk. However, the inevitable vast volume expansion of Si anode during charge/discharge is recognized as a major limitation preventing its commercial application. Herein, an N, S self-doped amorphous carbon layer coated on porous micron-sized Si (p-mSi@C) is designed to construct an electron/ion conducting network while ensuring structural and interfacial stability. Uneven distribution of von mises stresses during p-mSi lithiation leads to irregular volume expansion and even fragmentation. Meanwhile, the growth of by-products at the interface between p-mSi and electrolyte contact leads to a rapid capacity decay. Compared to p-mSi anode, p-mSi@C reduces the risk of fragmentation thanks to the stress-absorbing effect of amorphous carbon, delivering excellent electrochemical performance (2679.65 mAh g −1 at 0.2 mA cm −2 with initial coulombic efficiency of 84%). More importantly, the chemical failure mechanisms of p-mSi and p-mSi@C composite anodes are revealed through structural characterization, chemical analysis, and simulation, which provides the necessary theoretical guidance for practicalization.

Si@porous carbon fiber fabricated via wet spinning as a high-performance anode material for lithium-ion battery

Guangzhao Zhu,Jingrui Huang,Xiaoru Meng,Maolong Hao,Shoupu Zhu,Fanxu kong,Yue Zhou,Qi Li,Guowang Diao

Si/C composites are considered as attractive anode candidates for high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries and have been extensively researched. The carbon fiber (CF) fabricated by wet spinning is a well-established technology. However, there are scarce reports on Si/CF anodes fabricated by wet spinning. In this study, Si@porous carbon fiber (Si@PCF) composite were synthesized via wet spinning and subsequent thermal treatment. The porous carbon (PC) can effectively buffer the huge volume changes of Si nanoparticles during the charge-discharge process, promote the diffusion and transport of lithium ions , and compensate for the poor electronic conductivity of Si. The Si@PCF composite maintained a high capacity of 1178 mA h g −1  at 0.5 A g −1 after 100 cycles, suggesting potential for commercial application of the Si/PCF anode due to the excellent electrochemical performance and preparation technology suitable for large-scale production.

Optical SERS sensor with dandelion flower-like Ag/ZnFe2O4 nanotubes on the Si pyramids for detecting trace dyes

Ying Li,Kang Liu,Xin Li,Xuan Jin,Jinze Lyu,Yuebing Xu,Haiyan Zhu,Gang Shi

It is difficult for metal-modified semiconductor nanotubes to obtain surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates through long-range ordered 3D assembly, which adversely affects both Raman signal enhancement and Raman signal uniformity. Here, ZnFe 2 O 4 nanotubes with Ag nanoparticles modified on the inner and outer walls are induced to grow on the surface of the ordered Si pyramid by ZnO nanonedles as sacrificial templates. In this way, the composite nanotubes (Ag/ZnFe 2 O 4 ) are assembled into dandelion flower-like 3D aggregates with a periodic arrangement of hexagonal close packing. This 3D ordered SERS substrate based on Ag/ZnFe 2 O 4 nanotubes has excellent anti-reflective performance and carrier separation ability, which is conducive to the enhancement of Raman signal. When the SERS substrate is used as a sensor, it can achieve the single molecule (10 −13 M) detection level of Rhodamine 6 G, the enhancement factor (EF) is 3.14 × 10 9 , and the linear fit (R 2 ) of quantitative analysis is as high as 0.998 from 10 −13 to 10 −4 M. Meanwhile, the long-range ordered arrays on the SERS substrate can ensure the signal uniformity of sensor, which relative standard deviation (RSD) is as low as 3.37 %. In addition, the photocatalytic self-cleaning capability of SERS substrate ensures that the sensor can be reused. Finally, the mechanism of the photogenerated carrier migration of Ag/ZnFe 2 O 4 and its contribution to Raman signal enhancement were analyzed.

P/N/Si-rich and flexible coating imparting polypropylene excellent flame retardancy without compromising its inherent mechanical properties

Yanming Wang,Ruijie Guo,Jie Zhang,Huifang Wang,Baolong Niu,Hong Yan

In general, the addition of flame retardants may lead to the degradation of the mechanical properties of polymers, despite enhancing their flame retardancy. However, flame-retardant coatings have the potential to provide good flame resistance to polymers without compromising their inherent mechanical properties. In this study, we applied highly adhesive and flexible polysiloxane flame-retardant coatings (196 μm) to polypropylene , resulting in reductions of 74.9 %, 58.0 %, 80.0 %, and 56.4 % in peak heat release rate , peak smoke production rate, fire growth rate, and mass loss, respectively. By incorporating the lab-synthesized DOPO-modified polysiloxane (APID), the flame-retardant efficiency of ammonium polyphosphate (APP) was greatly enhanced. The primary film-forming agent, (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES), played a key role in maintaining the compatibility of APP and APID with the coating, as well as facilitating the formation of a robust Si O Si crosslinked network structure that strengthened the resulting char layer. The interactivity between the various components, including hydrogen bonds and crosslinked network structures, contributed to improved uniformity, thermal stability, and adhesion of the coatings. Moreover, the coatings exhibited resistance to ultraviolet radiation and water. Our findings suggest that highly flexible and adhesive flame-retardant coatings hold significant potential for applications in polymer protection. These promising results provide a viable pathway for improving the fire protection of polymers through the use of high-adhesive intumescent flame-retardant coatings.

A novel flexible composite solid electrolyte based on 3D network structural inorganic Si-Zr-O-C fiber film

Amin Chen,Na Li,Chenxu Sun,Yanmin Qin,Luyao Qi,Huipei Zhang,Haifeng Bao

Both inorganic solid electrolytes and organic polymer solid electrolytes face limitations in practical applications due to their shortcomings. Inorganic solid electrolytes suffer from high interface impedance and poor mechanical properties, while polymer solid electrolytes struggle with low Li-ion conductivity, thermal stability and electrochemical stability. To overcome the drawbacks of single phase solid electrolytes while utilizing their respective advantages, composite solid electrolytes have emerged as a popular research direction in recent years. Typical composite solid electrolytes feature inorganic filler particles dispersed in a polymer matrix. In this work, we introduce a novel non-flammable composite solid electrolyte with inorganic matrix and inorganic fillers. The composite solid electrolyte was prepared by integrating a 3D Si-Zr-O-C inorganic fiber film with Li 6.4 La 3 Zr 1.4 Ta 0.6 O 12 (LLZTO) particles that have high ionic conductivity via a vacuum impregnation process, which is all-inorganic solid state electrolyte. This unique design of established network structure provides fast Li-ion transport channels, enabling high ionic conductivity (2.3 × 10 −4  S cm −1 at room temperature). Furthermore, the Si-Zr-O-C/LLZTO (SLTO) composite electrolyte also exhibits superior flexibility, thermal stability, and electrochemical stability. The SLTO composite solid electrolyte presents a promising electrolyte candidate for next generation lithium ion batteries.

Water vapor corrosion behaviors of Yb2SiO5-Yb2O3-Si-SiC ceramic fabricated by tape casting and reactive melt infiltration

Liang Zhou,Jianbao Hu,Yunhui Zhang,Le Gao,Wang Yuan,Han Luo,Yanmei Kan,Xiangyu Zhang,Jinshan Yang,Bin Wu,Xiaowu Chen,Shaoming Dong

To reduce the influence of TGO on EBCs performance, the Yb 2 SiO 5 -Yb 2 O 3 -Si-SiC ceramic was prepared by tape casting and reactive melt infiltration in this paper. During high-temperature water vapor corrosion, the ceramic formed a unique layered oxide layer structure to protect the material. On one hand, TGO is consumed by the reaction of Yb 2 O 3 and Yb 2 SiO 5 with SiO 2 ; On the other, the structure makes no TGO layer between the oxidized and unoxidized regions, which means that even if the TGO layer is stripped, the material still has a dense Yb 2 Si 2 O 7 and Yb 2 SiO 5 mixed layer as a protective barrier.

Significantly enhancing the performance of PEDOT: PSS/Si hybrid solar cells by simply introducing a MoOX interface layer

Yiqian Cui,Yuchen Xiong,Jiawen Wang,Yu Zhang,Wei Yu

The formation of ohmic contact between the carrier transport layer and the electrode is necessary for the high-performance solar cells. However, in the PEDOT: PSS/Si hybrid solar cells, the low conductivity of PEDOT: PSS and the high contact barrier between PEDOT: PSS and Ag electrodes result in high contact resistance, which inhibits the improvement of cell efficiency. In this work, the above two issues were improved simultaneously by simply introducing a MoO X interface layer between PEDOT: PSS and Ag electrodes. The detailed characterization and analytical results show that the quinoid structure of PEDOT: PSS films and the Mo 5 + with metallization electricity properties increased significantly due to the interaction between PEDOT: PSS and MoO X , reducing the resistivity of PEDOT: PSS. At the same time, the contact potential barrier was reduced due to the formation of MoO X /Ag composite electrodes with high work function (WF). In addition, the PEDOT: PSS/MoO X films with higher WF led to a higher built-in electric field. Due to these collaborative improvements, a PEDOT: PSS/Si solar cell with a high power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 15.02 % was achieved. This work provides a new idea to modify the interface between PEDOT: PSS and Ag electrodes for improving the PCE of PEDOT: PSS/Si hybrid solar cells.

Enhancing CO2 Electroreduction Performance through Si-Doped CuO: Stabilization of Cu+/Cu0 Sites and Improved C2 Product Selectivity

Long Cheng,Rong Wang,Wenzhe Si,Yanxi Deng,Junhua Li,Yue Peng

Cu-based catalysts leveraging Cu+/Cu0 active sites have emerged as pivotal for synthesizing essential hydrocarbons and alcohols in electrochemical CO2 reduction, such as ethylene and ethanol (C2 products). However, the dynamic reduction of Cu+ to Cu0 during electroreduction leads to site instability, resulting in diminished efficiency for CO2 conversion to C2 products. Herein, we introduced Si into CuO by the selective dissolution method, engendering Cu–O–Si units to stabilize the Cu+/Cu0 sites. The catalyst manifested good activity in CO2 electroreduction with an elevated Faradaic efficiency for C2 products reaching 81.9% at −100 mA/cm2. After ten cycles of electrochemical testing, the Cu+/Cu0 sites and performance exhibited no signs of degradation. The Si incorporation significantly improved the hybridization of O 2p and Cu 3d orbitals, thereby reinforcing the Cu–O bonds and stabilizing the Cu+/Cu0 sites, which was critical in promoting C–C coupling via decreasing the energy barriers for *OCCO formation and enhancing C2 product selection. The active Cu+ cations with unsaturated coordination contributed to the reaction stabilization, thereby improving the preservation of Cu2O metastable state.

In intercalation and an Si-containing protective layer enhance the electrochemical performance of NaNi0.5Mn0.5O2 for sodium-ion batteries

Peng Sun,Chenhui Wang,Jing Liu,Jie Liao,Yaohan Fei,Ziyan Zhang,Ning Nie,Jiangjiexing Wu,You Han,Jinli Zhang,Wei Li

To enhance the electrochemical performance of NaNi0.5Mn0.5O2 (NM) cathode material for sodium-ion batteries, a novel indium-intercalated NaNi0.5−xMn0.5InxO2 cathode material enriched with oxygen vacancies was first synthesized via a high-shear co-precipitation method. Subsequently, a thin Si-containing protective layer was produced on the surface through the interfacial reaction between oxygen vacancies and tetraethyl orthosilicate. Results of performance evaluation and characterization tests, including in situ XRD, Ar+ sputtering XPS, and HAADF-STEM, indicated that the optimal sample Siy@NaNi0.497Mn0.5In0.003O2−y exhibited superior initial discharge capacity of 125.0 mA h g−1 (0.1 C) and excellent capacity retention of 98.4% after 100 cycles at 1 C. In particular, the Si@In-doped sample offered larger lattice spacing, higher Na+ diffusion rate and better conductivity than the In-intercalated sample and pristine NM. DFT calculations illustrated that In preferentially substituted the Mn site, while Si preferred to substitute the Ni site closer to the In-intercalating location. The Na+ diffusion energy barrier was greatly reduced with In intercalation and Si doping. Such a facile strategy to augment the lattice spacing of the O3-layer cathode while producing a thin protective layer using the oxygen vacancies on the surface has promising applications to explore new cathode materials with high electrochemical performance for sodium-ion batteries.
