The development of highly efficient electrocatalysts has attracted increasing attention in the field of electrochemical energy conversion. Therefore, we report a simple self-template method to construct Co–Sn–X (X = S, Se, Te) nanocages through the anion exchange reaction of CoSn(OH)6 nanocubes with chalcogenide ions under mild solvothermal conditions. Benefiting from advantageous compositional features and well-designed architectures, the obtained Co–Sn–X (X = S, Se, Te) nanocages display enhanced electrocatalytic activity for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in an alkaline electrolyte. Remarkably, the Co–Sn–Se nanocages as the counter electrode (CE) catalyst deliver a prominent power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 9.25% for DSSCs compared with Pt CE (8.19%). Furthermore, when used as an OER catalyst, the Co–Sn–Se nanocages also exhibit outstanding electrocatalytic activity in terms of their low overpotential of 304 mV at the current density of 10 mA cm−2 and long-term stability in 1.0 M KOH solution. This work provides wide prospects for the rational design and synthesis of high-performance transition metal chalcogenide-based electrocatalysts for future energy conversion systems.

In this work, Pt nanoparticles modified nanoporous AuSn(Pt@NP-AuSn) alloy on Ni buffered flexible carbon fiber paper (CFP) is fabricated by a simple replacement reaction in which NP-AuSn is fabricated by controllable dealloy of electrodeposited Au-Sn alloy films. The as prepared Pt@NP-AuSn/Ni/CFP possesses hierarchical pore structure , high specific surface area and excellent catalytic activity . Due to the bi-functions of both the large surface area of nanoporous metal and macroporous of carbon fiber paper facilitating mass transfer, the Pt@NP-AuSn/Ni/CFP shows high sensitivity of detecting ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA), with sensitivities of 0.14 μA μM −1 cm −2 , 15.23 μA μM −1 cm −2 , 0.28 μA μM −1 cm −2 under the concentration ranging from 200 to 2000 μM, 1–10 μM, and 25–800 μM for AA, DA and UA, respectively. Further, the Pt@NP-AuSn/Ni/CFP possesses long-term stability of sensing AA, DA and UA and presents great anti-interference towards a variety of common compounds in body fluid. All of these results manifest the Pt@NP-AuSn/Ni/CFP can be a promising candidate for the application of the electrochemical sensor for simultaneous detection of AA, DA and UA.

Lactic acid is an important platform molecule in the synthesis of a wide range of chemicals. However, in aqueous solutions without alkali, its efficient preparation via the direct catalysis of sugars is hindered by a side dehydration reaction to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural due to Brønsted acid, which originates from organic acids. Herein, we report that a previously unappreciated combination of common two metal mixed catalyst (Zn-Sn-Beta) prepared via solid-state ion exchange synergistically promoted this reaction. In water without a base, a conversion exceeding 99% for sucrose with a lactic acid yield of 54% was achieved within 2 hours at 190 °C under ambient air pressure. Studies of the acid and base properties of the Zn-Sn-Beta zeolite suggest that the introduction of Zn into the Sn-Beta zeolite sequentially enhanced both the Lewis acid and base sites and the base sites inhibited a series of side reactions related to fructose dehydration to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural and its subsequent decomposition.

A series of morphology/component-controllable Sn-Sb micro/nano-structures are fabricated by a one-pot replacement reaction technique employing metallic Sn as both template and reducing agent. Typically, nanoscaled Sn as template and ethyl alcohol as solvent give the hollow structure, while micron-sized Sn as precursor and ethylene glycol as solvent produce the dendritic product. Other mixed structures are also obtained by this one-pot route. As anode materials for lithium-ion batteries, the hollow or dendritic Sn-Sb materials exhibit higher discharge capacities compared with the corresponding Sb samples as well as the Sn templates. Especially, for the Sn-Sb hollow spheres, a high discharge capacity of 820.7 mAh g −1 after first cycle and a reversible capacity of 751 mAh g −1 are achieved after 100 cycles at a current density of 100 mA g −1 . Meanwhile, the hollow Sn-Sb structure delivers a specific capacity of 451.3 mA h g −1 at 500 mA g −1 after 150 cycles when used for sodium ion batteries. The superior electrochemical performance that are higher than many reported results can be attributed to the special morphology and structure, which can shorten the transportation distance of lithium/sodium ion and provide extra free space to buffer the volume expansion during the lithium/sodium insertion/extraction.

Tetravalent metal phosphates (M(HPO4)2, M = Zr, Sn, and Ti) have robust layered structures with interlayer d spacings over 7.5 Å, but show poor electrical conductivity. On the other hand, single-atomic-layered reduced graphene oxide (rGO) sheets exhibit a high electrical conductivity. In this work, the combination of rGO and M(HPO4)2 is explored for their potential as anode materials for lithium ion batteries (LIBs). Specifically, rGO/M(HPO4)2 composites are prepared, and their electrochemical performances are investigated systematically. In comparison with bare M(HPO4)2, the rGO/M(HPO4)2 composites exhibit larger specific capacity, higher rate capability, better cyclic stability, lower voltage for lithium ion insertion and extraction, and improved first Coulombic efficiency. We propose that the superior electrochemical performances of the composites are primarily contributed to the large interlayer space of M(HPO4)2 and the rGO sheets cladded on the surfaces of the layered M(HPO4)2. The attached rGO sheets bridge the layers together forming a network that is beneficial for the electron and ion diffusion within the composites, thus enhancing the discharge/charge rate capability of the composites. In addition, the attached rGO sheets provide extra anchoring sites for Li+; the specific capacity of the composites as anode materials is thus enhanced.

This study investigates the synergistic effects of single- and binary-additive systems on the morphology and nucleation mechanism of Sn-Pb alloy electrodeposited coatings. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and chronoamperometry were applied in order to obtain more information on the action mechanisms of single-additive systems (cinnamaldehyde, PEG-2000, gelatin, vanillin) and binary ones (0.1 g/L cinnamaldehyde + 0.2 g/L PEG-2000) in Sn-Pb electroplating. Results showed that the use of binary-additive systems based on cinnamaldehyde and PEG-2000 significantly improved coating quality, leading to a smooth and uniform surface, dense grains, and a near-eutectic composition (Sn 63.10 wt.%, Pb 36.90 wt.%). This was because the composite additive, through synergistic effects, exhibited the highest cathodic polarization and the largest charge transfer resistance (189.20 Ω cm2), thus inhibiting the electrodeposition process of Sn2+and Pb2+. Chronoamperometry revealed that, unlike single additives (PEG-2000 or cinnamaldehyde), the binary-additive system promoted a transition of nucleation mode to instantaneous nucleation, accompanied by a decrease in the peak current and an extension of the corresponding time. This study provides a theoretical basis and experimental support for understanding the nucleation mode of Sn-Pb electroplating, as well as optimizing the synergistic mechanism of additives.

Commercial 3D zinc foam anodes with high deposition space and ion permeation have shown great potential in aqueous ion batteries. However, the local accumulated stress from its high-curvature surface exacerbates the Zn dendrite issue, leading to poor reversibility. Herein, we have employed zincophilic N-doped carbon @ Sn composites (N-C@Sn) as nano-fillings to effectively release the local stress of high curvature surface of 3D Zn foams toward dendrite-free anode in aqueous zinc ion battery (AZIB). These electronegative and conductive N-C@Sn nano-fillings as supporters can provide a highly zincophilic channel for initial Zn nucleation and reduce local current density for regulating Zn deposition. Uniform Zn deposition further assists homogenous stress distribution on the platting surface, which gives a positive feedback loop to improve anode reversibility. As a result, zinc foam with N-C@Sn composite (ZCSn Foam) symmetric cell achieves a long cycle lifespan of 1100h at 0.5 mA cm −2 , much more than that of Zn Foam (∼80 h lifespan). The full cell ZCSn Foam||MnO 2 exhibits remarkable reversibility with 67% retention after 1000 cycles at 0.8 A g −1 and 76% after 1600 cycles at 2 Ag −1 . This 3D-constructing strategy may offer a promising and practical pathway for metal anode application.

Dysregulated glycerophospholipid (GP) metabolism in the brain is associated with the progression of neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Routine liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS)-based large-scale lipidomic methods often fail to elucidate subtle yet important structural features such as sn -position, hindering the precise interrogation of GP molecules. Leveraging high-resolution demultiplexing (HRdm) ion mobility spectrometry (IMS), we develop a four-dimensional (4D) lipidomic strategy to resolve GP sn -position isomers. We further construct a comprehensive experimental 4D GP database of 498 GPs identified from the mouse brain and an in-depth extended 4D library of 2500 GPs predicted by machine learning, enabling automated profiling of GPs with detailed acyl chain sn -position assignment. Analyzing three mouse brain regions (hippocampus, cerebellum, and cortex), we successfully identify a total of 592 GPs including 130 pairs of sn -position isomers. Further temporal GPs analysis in the three functional brain regions illustrates their metabolic alterations in AD progression.

All-solid-state lithium-sulfur batteries (ASSLSBs) are highly sought after due to their inherent high energy density. However, the low stability of lithium metal with solid-state- electrolytes (SSEs) and the severe problem of lithium dendrites limit the lifespan of ASSLSBs. Here, we propose a large-area, ultrathin, and free-standing Li-rich anode (3D Li-Sn alloy/GF) for ASSLSBs, featuring a Li-Sn alloy foil (10–50 μm in thickness) supported by a three-dimensional (3D) graphene framework (GF). The high strength and 3D continuous structure of graphene ensure stable contact at the anode/SSE interface during delamination. Thanks to its high specific surface area, lithiophilic Li 22 Sn 5 nucleation sites can be uniformly distributed within the alloy phase, making lithium ions preferentially deposit towards the interior of the phase during lithium plating. The obtained lithium-rich alloy anode demonstrates an ultra-high lithium content (3282 mAh g −1 ) and a low potential platform (0.03 V vs. Li/Li + ), ensuring high energy density. This results in a long lifespan of up to 1200 h and a high critical current density of 4 mA cm −2 . The ASSLSBs exhibit excellent room-temperature cycling stability, with a capacity retention rate of 97.8 % after 235 cycles. Even with a high sulfur loading of 3.53 mg cm −2 , the anode maintains a high areal capacity of >3 mAh cm −2 , showcasing its potential for safe, long-life, high-energy-density ASSLSBs.

Ni–M/SiO2 with different binary metals M (M = Ce, Co, Sn, Fe) prepared by an incipient impregnation method was used in the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of low-temperature coal tar distillate, which is rich in phenolic compounds. p-Cresol, as a model compound of the distillate, was used to evaluate the activity and selectivity of BTX products on the series of reduced Ni–M/SiO2 catalysts in a fixed bed reactor. The properties of the catalysts were characterized by N2 adsorption–desorption, ICP-AES, XRD, H2-TPR, and XPS. Benzene and toluene as the direct deoxygenation (DDO) products and cyclohexane and methylcyclohexane as the hydrogenolysis (HYD) products were detected to evaluate the selectivity of the path in the deoxygenation process. In this series of catalysts, the order of reactivity was Ni–Ce > Ni–Sn > Ni–Co > Ni–Fe > monometallic Ni. Meanwhile, the addition of Ce and Co loaded in the Lewis acid sites of the catalyst affected the electron distribution of nickel atom and its atomic arrangement on the surface of the carrier. Compared to monometallic Ni, the DDO path become dominant on Ni–Ce and Ni–Co and the selectivity for BTX products increased from 58.8% to 77.4% and 71.1%, respectively. The binary metal Sn, unlike the former two metals, formed a Ni3Sn crystal form with Ni, which resulted in significant enhancement of the HYD path while obviously increasing the reactivity.

Indium (In) is a typical critical metal, and the recycling of waste In-Tin oxide (ITO) target can alleviate the In resource supply scarcity. The dismantling and preprocessing of waste ITO targets inevitably introduce metallic impurities, posing significant challenges for In recovery, particularly the separation of In from Sn and the removal of other impurities. This study developed an integrated hydrometallurgical process to prepare high-purity nano-In 2 O 3 from high-impurity waste ITO, highlighting on the leaching and separation mechanisms of In, Sn, Al, and Mo. The process consists of HCl leaching for Mo separation, selective sulfide precipitation for In/Sn separation, TOA/TBP synergistic extraction for In/Al separation, and calcination for nano-In 2 O 3 preparation. Under optimal conditions, HCl leaching extracted over 94% of In, Sn, and Al while selectively suppressing Mo dissolution to below 13%. The HCl leaching, sulfide precipitation, and solvent extraction mechanisms are also discussed in this study. The final In 2 O 3 product was 99.98% pure, with about 25 nm average particle size and 77.8% overall In recovery. This work provides an efficient route for high-purity nano-In 2 O 3 production from high-impurity wastes.

Glycerol, as the main byproduct in biodiesel production, is attractive for the synthesis of value-added chemicals with the rapid increase of the biodiesel market in recent years. In this study, we developed a bifunctional Au/Sn-Beta catalyst via a molecule linkage strategy for the one-pot catalytic conversion of glycerol to methyl lactate (MLA) with molecular oxygen as the oxidant. Bifunctional Au/Sn-Beta was constructed using β-mercaptoethylamine as a linkage molecule to anchor negative Au species on the negative surface of Sn-Beta zeolites. β-Mercaptoethylamine with a well-defined structure of head and tail functional groups was anchored on Sn-Beta zeolite through the interaction of amine groups with the framework Sn sites and weakly acidic silanols. Gold species with negative charge were captured by thiol groups of β-mercaptoethylamine anchored on Sn-Beta. Upon calcination, highly dispersed Au nanoparticles (∼2 nm) were confined in the crystal of Sn-Beta zeolite, which was proved by Tomogram-section TEM images. Linkage molecules with different structures were employed. The role of the linkage molecule was revealed by XPS, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopy. It was observed that electrons were transferred from Au sites to Sn sites, which facilitated the dispersion and stabilization of Au sites. A yield of 79.3% to MLA with 100% of glycerol conversion was achieved over the prepared Au/Sn-Beta at 160 °C for 1.5 h, which was much higher than that over Au/Sn-Beta prepared by the wet impregnation method. The positive charge on Au sites decreased the catalytic oxidation ability of the catalyst. The catalyst showed good catalytic activity and stability in ten batch reaction runs.
