Structural colorization as an eco-friendly coloring method has received more and more attention in textile field. Researchers have used different materials to prepare structural color fabric based on different mechanisms of structural color formation. In recent years, Cu2O microspheres with a high refractive index have also been used for textile coloring based on Mie scattering. However, the influence of different types of textile substrates on Cu2O structural color is still unclear. In this study, Cu2O structural colors were prepared on different fabric substrates of polyester, linen, silk, polyester/cotton and linen/cotton to investigate the influence of different textile fabric substrates on the color and antibacterial properties of Cu2O structural color. The results show that Cu2O microspheres with five different particle sizes can form five different structural colors of purple, blue, green, yellow-green and orange on all of these fabrics. However, the structural color with same color show different color brightness on different fabrics, which may be caused by different fabric structures, fiber types and diameters. Cu2O structural colors on all these different fabrics can obtain excellent antibacterial properties with antibacterial rates against S. aureus and E. coli higher than 99.9%. All of the Cu2O structural color fabrics can obtain good colorfastness by introducing the commercial polyacrylate adhesive. The physical properties of all the fabrics were slightly influenced by the Cu2O structural color. This research provides experimental basis for the practical application of Cu2O microspheres structural color in textile fields.

Cu 2 O/Cu@SiO 2 core–shell nanoparticles were fabricated by a DC arc plasma process. • Differential interfacial interactions among molten droplets drive core–shell formation. • Interfacial tension is identified as the key factor controlling structural evolution. Cu@SiO 2 core-shell heterogenous nano particles (Cu@SiO 2 CSHNPs) demonstrate significant application advantages in catalysis and functional material modification. Direct current arc plasma technology holds considerable promise for the synthesis and industrialization of related materials due to its inherent advantages. However, issues such as the complex and unclear synthesis mechanism of the Metal@SiO 2 system via direct current arc plasma methods constrain its potential for structural and performance regulation. In this study, Cu 2 O/Cu@SiO 2 core-shell particles were in situ synthesized for the first time via DC arc process. Building upon this, morphological and compositional analysis of the products led to the innovative proposal of a formation mechanism for core-shell heterostructures based on differential interfacial interactions between micro-nano molten droplets. The experimental results reveal that differences in interfacial tension among micro/nanoscale molten droplets play a decisive role in governing the phase distribution and structural evolution of the products. This work provides a new perspective for understanding the formation of Metal@SiO 2 core–shell nanostructures under arc plasma conditions and offers theoretical guidance for the controllable synthesis of related heterogeneous nanomaterials.

Electrochemical reconstruction of electrocatalysts is critical to their practical performances. However, the relevant influencing factors for the evolution process are still rare, restricting the design of high-performance electrocatalysts. Herein, using acidic CO 2 electroreduction reaction (CRR) over Cu 2 O as a model system, we systemically studied how organic additives regulate the reconstruction of high-valent Cu species and the CRR mechanism. Theoretical calculations reveal the relationship between additive physicochemical properties and Cu 2 O. Notably, in situ characterization reveals that DMSO strongly interacts with the catalyst, partially reducing Cu 2 O to form a Co-lattice OD-Cu/Cu 2 O heterostructure with interfacial Cu atoms belong to both Cu 2 O and Cu lattices and exhibits an intermediate valence state. Based on the Co-lattice OD-Cu/Cu 2 O, the Faradaic efficiency (FE) of C 2 H 4 was up to 67.5% at −1.5 V vs. RHE in H 2 SO 4 & Li 2 SO 4 electrolyte with a low FE H2 of 16.8%. Moreover, the combination achieves a stability of over 100 h in membrane electrode assembly (MEA) electrolyzes. Simulations uncover that the DMSO-modified Co-lattice OD-Cu/Cu 2 O optimizes *CO adsorption, lowers C–C coupling barriers and promote the generation of C 2 H 4 . Meanwhile, DMSO spontaneously adsorbs on the catalyst surface and effectively inhibits HER. This work deepens the understanding of electrocatalyst reconstruction behavior and contributes to the development of efficient electrocatalytic systems.

Titanium, known for its high strength-to-weight ratio and excellent corrosion resistance, has great potential for marine engineering application. However, due to its biocompatibility, titanium is highly susceptible to undesirable biofouling in the marine environment. In this study, we developed a long-lasting anti-fouling surface by completely filling Cu 2 O into TiO 2 nanotube arrays with a high aspect ratio of 132 on the titanium. The interfacial bonding strength between the high-aspect-ratio TiO 2 nanotube arrays and the titanium was subsequently enhanced by a factor of 7.98 through a two-step post-anodization and annealing treatment, which was sufficient to resist the stripping effect of the subsequent electrochemical filling of Cu 2 O. Then, the reinforced high-aspect-ratio TiO 2 nanotube arrays were completely filled with Cu 2 O by a two-step electrochemical filling strategy, resulting in a loading amount of Cu 2 O up to 1.5 mg/cm 2 on the titanium and inhibiting its burst release in the seawater with a release rate of less than 10 μ g/(cm 2 ·d). Compared to titanium, this nanocomposite structure maintained over 99 % anti-adhesion ratio against N . incerta for up to 217 days and resisted biofouling for more than 1 month in the actual marine environment. This in-situ prepared, cost-effective, and highly-efficient anti-fouling titanium surface provides a novel strategy for large-scale applications of titanium in the marine engineering.

High dielectric constant and breakdown strength of composite dielectrics are key for high energy density in capacitors. However, high dielectric constant is frequently accompanied by rather low breakdown strength. To obtain high dielectric constant and breakdown strength, in this work, polymer-based ternary composites bearing V 2 C MXene-Cu 2 O hybrid filler have been prepared. First, V 2 C and V 2 C-Cu 2 O fillers were synthesized. Then, binary polymer/V 2 C and ternary polymer/V 2 C-Cu 2 O composite films were fabricated. Via measurements, significantly optimized electric traits were realized in ternary composites compared with binary ones. In ternary system , higher dielectric constant was attributed to high-polarity V 2 C/Cu 2 O interface-phase, notably reduced dielectric loss low polymer/V 2 C interface leakage conductance, and greatly improved breakdown strength low total leakage current . Finally, V 2 C/Cu 2 O interfacial effect was disclosed using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Electronic migration and stable bonding at interface were rationalized. Ternary composite with 7 wt% filler showed a high dielectric constant of ~55 and low dielectric loss of ~0.085 at 100 Hz as well as high breakdown strength of ~332 MV m −1 . In novelty, V 2 C/Cu 2 O interface-phase containing quantum-sized high-polarity micro-regions has been proposed to contribute to high dielectric constant of ternary system. This research might enable preparation of advanced composite dielectric materials.

Metals and their alloy-based electrocatalysts continue to attract considerable attention for electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction reactions (CO2RRs). In this work, cuprous oxide (Cu2O) was supported on N-doped flexible roughed graphite paper (NGP) to fabricate Cu2O/NGP self-supporting electrocatalysts for CO2RRs by electrodeposition and heat treatment. In the Cu2O/NGP electrocatalyst, NGP acted as a current collector and conducting channel, which can effectively transfer electrons from the active sites of Cu2O to NGP, and thus, enhance the catalytic performance of Cu2O/NGP for CO2RRs. The overall Faradaic efficiency of Cu2O/NGP for CO2RRs reached 96% at −0.9 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode, of which 35% originated from yielding ethylene (C2H4), suggesting its high activity and C2H4 selectivity. Furthermore, the excellent stability of Cu2O/NGP over 10 h made it preferable as an effective electrocatalyst for CO2RRs. The good electrocatalytic performance could be attributed to the unique self-supporting structure and the synergetic effect between Cu2O and NGP.

Vitellogenin (Vtg) is a biomarker for environmental estrogens, and its sensitive detection method is vital for the detection of weak estrogenic activity. This study aimed to develop sensitive electrochemical immunosensors for marine medaka ( Oryzias melastigma ) Vtg based on novel nanomaterials. Firstly, Cu 2 O–BSA nanoparticles (NPs) with a diameter of 120−150 nm was synthesized, and monoclonal antibody against lipovitellin (anti-Lv mAb) was prepared. Then two simple and efficient label-free immunosensors for the detection of Vtg were established using Cu 2 O–BSA NPs and gold nanoparticle (Au NPs) as signal amplification elements and anti-Lv mAb as the detection probe. These two immunosensors have good sensitivity, selectivity, reproducibility for Vtg quantification, and are easy to use. Moreover, the BSA/Anti-Lv mAb/Au/Cu 2 O–BSA/GCE immunosensor exhibited a linear range from 0.128 to 5 × 10 4 pg/mL, with the lowest detection limit (LOD) of 0.09 pg/mL, which is considerably lower than those of the previously reported Vtg detection techniques. Finally, the performance of the immunosensor was evaluated by quantifying Vtg concentrations in plasma of male marine medaka exposed three estrogenic bisphenols. The results demonstrated that the BSA/Anti-Lv mAb/Au/Cu 2 O–BSA/GCE immunosensor was an easily-operated, ultrasensitive and accurate detection method for weak estrogenic activity.

Photo-corrosion of Cu 2 O photocatalyst considered as an important factor extremely restricts its catalytic activity. However, so far, there are few comprehensive reports on the mechanism of photo-corrosion inhibition and stability improvement of Cu 2 O in photocatalytic degradation. In this work, oxidized g-C 3 N 4 /Cu 2 O@C (GCNOX/Cu 2 O@C) visible-light catalysts with protective carbon layer were first prepared using the copper-based metal–organic frameworks (HKUST-1) composite as precursors. The UV–visible DRS, PL, XPS valence-band and Mott-Schottky curves were used to characterize that the formation of carbon layer leads to establishing built-in electric field, shifting of energy bands and photogenerated carrier separation. Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) revealed that GCNOX/Cu 2 O@C had the strongest photo-response current and the lowest interface contact resistance. The photodegradation activity of GCNOX/Cu 2 O@C was analyzed for Rhodamine B (RhB) and ciprofloxacin (CIP) under low energy visible light irradiation and the degradation kinetic constants were 0.01413 min −1 and 0.03958 min −1 , respectively, which were much higher than other as-prepared catalysts. It also exhibited outstanding stability with the 87.4% degradation efficiency in 90 min after four recycles. Furthermore, the characterization of GCNOX/Cu 2 O@C after the cyclic reactions further proved the ultra-high stability of the carbonized materials. Additionally, on the basis of degradation experiments and photoelectrochemical results, the possible transfer path of photocarriers between material interfaces, photo-corrosion inhibition mechanism of cuprous oxide and the transformation mechanism of active radicals were proposed. This work provided a novel insight for MOFs-derived composites as a highly efficient and stable visible-light catalyst.

Photocatalytic reduction of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) is an effective way to reduce its environmental risk. However, it remains a challenge to achieve a high removal rate in mild conditions. In order to efficiently remove Cr(VI) from water, a novel Z-scheme heterojunction composite photocatalyst rCB-20 (Cu 2 O/rGO/BiOBr, 20% Cu 2 O) was successfully prepared using a simple two-step strategy in this work. The characterizations of the catalyst show that the Z-scheme heterojunction formed between Cu 2 O and BiOBr is favorable for facilitating the separation of photogenerated carriers. The existence of rGO can reduce the resistance of electron transport. Therefore, the composite photocatalyst exhibits a very high photocatalytic activity in the photoreduction of Cr(VI). For example, using it to completely remove Cr(VI) with a concentration of 20 mg•L −1 in the pH = 4 solution only requires 40 min. Even the complete removal of the same concentration of Cr(VI) in neutral water at pH 7 does not take more than 90 min. Meanwhile, it possesses a high stability in catalytic activity and structure.

Fabrication of low-dimensional nano-MOFs as well as nanoparticles/metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) hybrids has sparked new scientific interests but remains a challenging task. Taking Cu 3 (BTC) 2 as a proof of concept, it is demonstrated thats NH 3 ⋅H 2 O solution of a confined pH value can readily shape the bulk Cu 3 (BTC) 2 into nanoscale Cu 3 (BTC) 2 , beyond the need to control the crystal growth kinetics of MOFs. Adjusting the pH of NH 3 ⋅H 2 O within a much small range (10–11) allows fine tuning over the size and shape of nanoscale Cu 3 (BTC) 2 . Particularly at pH = 11, NH 3 ⋅H 2 O exhibits weak reducibility that triggers a reduction of part of Cu 3 (BTC) 2 into Cu 2 O, while shaping the other into Cu 3 (BTC) 2 nanowires. Benefiting from the coincidence of reduction and etching effects, the newly generated Cu 2 O dots can in situ anchor onto adjacent Cu 3 (BTC) 2 nanowires at highly dispersive state, forming a well-defined sponge-like architecture built of Cu 2 O dots and nano-Cu 3 (BTC) 2 . The CuO x derived from annealing of the Cu 2 O dots/nano-Cu 3 (BTC) 2 hybrid preserves the sophisticated sponge architecture and high porosity, and exhibits promising applications in phenol scavenging, with efficiency outperforming its counterparts and many other Cu-based catalysts reported in literature. It is anticipated that the findings here pave the way for the rational design of intricate nano-MOFs in a more efficient way.

In this study, a novel microencapsulated phase change material paraffin@Cu-Cu 2 O/CNTs was successfully prepared by hydrothermal reduction and in situ deposition method , in which paraffin as the core, Cu, Cu 2 O and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as the shell. SEM and TEM results proved that the microcapsules have a core-shell structure, the CNTs were irregularly wrapped on the shell, and the diameter of the microcapsules was about 600-800 nm. The melting temperature and latent heat of the paraffin@Cu-Cu 2 O/CNTs microcapsules were 61.17 °C and 81.31Jg -1 , respectively, and the encapsulation rate of the microcapsules was calculated to be 41.53% from the results of the DSC measurement. Due to the shell material, the paraffin@Cu-Cu 2 O/CNTs microcapsules displayed excellent thermal stability, its thermal decomposition temperature is increased by 97 °C compared to paraffin. Moreover, the paraffin@Cu-Cu 2 O/CNTs microcapsules were dispersed in water to form a new kind of slurry, such fluid exhibited great improvement in terms of thermal conductivity , specific heat capacity , light absorption performance and photo-thermal conversion efficiency than that of paraffin@Cu-Cu 2 O microcapsules slurry. Therefore, the high heat storage capability and excellent photo-thermal conversion performance of the paraffin@Cu-Cu 2 O/CNTs microcapsule slurry make it to be the most potential heat transfer fluid for direct absorption solar collector.

A novel copper/copper(I) oxide@carbon (Cu/Cu2O@C) core–shell nanocomposite monodispersed on the surface of reduced graphene oxide (defined as Cu/Cu2O@C-rGO) was synthesized using a one-step calcination of Cu-based metal organic frameworks (MOFs)/graphene oxide (GO) composite structure. The size of the resultant Cu/Cu2O@C core–shell nanoparticles (NPs) on the rGO layers were mainly distributed in range of about 90–100 nm with good dispersion, which was characterized using transmission electron microscopy. X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption–desorption isotherms, X-ray photoelectron spectrometry and thermogravimetric analyses were also carried out to characterize the structure and composition of the Cu/Cu2O@C-rGO. The catalytic performance of the Cu/Cu2O@C-rGO composite was evaluated using a reduction reaction from 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol. It was demonstrated that the Cu/Cu2O@C-rGO composite exhibited an excellent catalytic performance, which can reach a nearly 100% conversion rate in 90 s with 0.1 mg of catalyst. This catalyst also showed a good performance for the degradation of other organic dyes such as methylene blue, methyl orange and rhodamine B. Additionally, the core–shell structure exhibited good stability and reusability for the reduction reaction, which was because of its relatively better oxidation resistance than that of the bare Cu NPs. This research provided an efficient and stable non-noble metal-based catalyst derived from the MOF/GO structure.
