GO@Polyaniline Nanorod Array Hierarchical Structure: A Photothermal Agent with High Photothermal Conversion Efficiency for Fast Near-Infrared Responsive Hydrogels

Ping Fan,Zhe Fan,Fanglin Huang,Jintao Yang,Feng Chen,Zhengdong Fei,Mingqiang Zhong

Near-infrared (NIR) responsive hydrogels are of significance in remote control microvalves. However, the development and the application of NIR responsive hydrogels were either limited by high cost or limited by long response time (on the order of minutes) and modest volume change. To address this problem, in this work, a graphene oxide@polyaniline (GO@PANI) hybrid nanocomposite with nanorod array hierarchical structure was fabricated by dilute polymerization. The as-synthesized hierarchical GO@PANI nanosheets exhibited high NIR photothermal conversion efficiency (PTCE) (49%), which was approximately 188% the magnitude of that of GO sheets. Due to its high photothermal conversion efficiency, when GO@PANI was incorporated into temperature-responsive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPA), a highly responsive hydrogel with rapid and significant NIR-induced volume change (over 50%) was obtained. When this material was applied as a remote-controllable microvalve, it exhibited a fast NIR response (∼30 s).

Novel synthesis of NiS/MMT/GO nanocomposites with enhanced peroxidase-like activity for sensitive colorimetric detection of glutathione in solution

Chen Miaomiao,Zhu Jialong,Yang Baochan,Yao Xiuxiu,Zhu Xixi,Liu Qingyun,Lyu Xintian

In the present study, a facile method was proposed to prepare nickel sulfide (NiS) nanoparticles well-dispersed on the surface of montmorillonite/graphene oxide (MMT/GO). The NiS/MMT/GO nanocomposites were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), fluorescence spectrophotometry, etc. Significantly, the novel NiS/MMT/GO nanocomposites exhibited high peroxidase-like activity toward the typical chromogenic substrate, 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB). However, glutathione (GSH) could inhibit the peroxidase-like activity of NiS/MMT/GO along with a visible color variation. Based on the color change of the system of nanocomposites-H 2 O 2 -TMB, a novel colorimetric sensor was designed and conveniently used to quantitatively detect H 2 O 2 as well as GSH. The limit of detection (LOD) of H 2 O 2 and GSH is 9.73 and 0.5043 μM, respectively. The proposed H 2 O 2 sensor has potential application in the field of biosensing, food, and environment. ᅟ

The GO/rGO–Fe3O4 composites with good water-dispersibility and fast magnetic response for effective immobilization and enrichment of biomolecules

Gong Cheng,Yan-Lin Liu,Zhi-Gang Wang,Ji-Lin Zhang,De-Hui Sun,Jia-Zuan Ni

The graphene oxide (GO)–Fe3O4 and the reduced graphene oxide (rGO)–Fe3O4 composites with good water dispersibility, high affinity and rapid magnetic response have been prepared via a facile grafting method. They can be used for the effective immobilization of proteins and the enrichment of peptides, respectively. By taking advantage of the high loading capacity and the abundant hydrophilic groups of the GO–Fe3O4 composites, they can be applied to immobilize proteins. The amount of loading of protein (BSA) on GO–Fe3O4 is as high as 294.54 mg g−1. The rGO–Fe3O4 composites can be used to enrich the low-concentration peptides conveniently due to their high surface areas, special structures and strong magnetism. Nineteen target peptides with the sequence coverage of 21% can be enriched and detected from the highly diluted digest of BSA (5 fmol μL−1). These results reveal that the prepared GO/rGO–Fe3O4 composites have potential application as a carrier for biomolecule immobilization, enrichment, and separation.

MIL-101/GO Coated Stir Bar for SBSE to Determine Azo Dyes in Water Samples by UV–Vis Spectrophotometric Method

Qiong Yi,Ling Li,Wei Hong,Lu Fan

A composite of chromium (III) terephthalate metal-organic framework and graphene oxide (MIL-101/GO) coated stir bar was prepared by sol–gel technique for the first time and was employed for stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) of trace azo dyes amaranth, sunset yellow and carmine from water samples followed by UV–Vis spectrophotometric detection. A MIL-101/GO coating was first created on the glass bar surface. MIL-101/GO and MIL-101/GO coated stir bars were characterized. The enrichment factors of azo dyes by SBSE have been investigated in detail, and the optimized experimental parameters were obtained. Under the optimal conditions, a method for determination of trace amount of azo dyes was setup, and the detection limits of amaranth, sunset yellow and carmine were 2.3 ng/mL, 1.7 ng/mL and 1.6 ng/mL. The proposed method was successfully applied for the analysis of the three azo dyes in water samples.

Molecularly imprinted nanocomposite membranes based on GO/PVDF blended membranes with an organic–inorganic structure for selective separation of norfloxacin

Juan Zhao,Yilin Wu,Shi Zhou,Li Yan,Hongjun Dong,Li Chen,Minjia Meng,Chunxiang Li,Yongsheng Yan

Antibiotic pollutants in water have received remarkable attention due to the untold damage to human health and the environment, yet no approach has been used to solve the problem effectively. In this work, novel and efficient norfloxacin-molecularly imprinted composite membranes with an organic–inorganic structure (NFIcMs) were designed and developed using GO/PVDF blended membranes as substrates for selective separation and fast enrichment of norfloxacin from aqueous solution. The selectivity coefficient (α) of NFIcMs was up to 7.35 and more than 1.0, and the permeability factor β values were about 6.0 and more than 1.0, which indicated that the as-prepared NFIcMs possessed outstanding selectivity and permeability. Moreover, the synergistic effects of the specific surface area of GO, fouling resistance of TiO2 and high mechanical strength of PVDF membranes resulted in the fact that NFIcMs had a high adsorption capacity (44.81 mg g−1) for norfloxacin. Additionally, the facile and eco-friendly preparation of the demonstrated NFIcMs rendered them with the application potential in the treatment of antibiotic pollutants.

Enhanced Thermal Conductivity and Stability of Hydrated Salt Phase Change Microcapsules With GO/SiO2 Hybrid Shell for Battery Thermal Management

Yingbiao Yuan,Piao Wang,Mingfeng Chen,Renjie Chen,Jun Li,Haidong Ju

Herein, the synthesis of a novel microencapsulated phase change material via a sol–gel method is presented, featuring disodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate as the core and a SiO 2 /graphene oxide composite as the shell. The morphology and core–shell microstructure of the synthesized microcapsules are characterized using scanning electron microscopy. The phase change performance and thermal stability are evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry and a high/low temperature test chamber, respectively. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy are employed to determine the chemical composition of the microcapsules. The findings reveal that the MEPCM exhibited a high melting enthalpy of 174.3 J g −1 . The degree of supercooling is reduced by 2.1 °C, and after 600 thermal cycles, the phase change enthalpy of the microcapsules showed a minor decrease of ≈6.0%. Notably, the thermal conductivity of the microcapsules is significantly enhanced, increasing by up to 51.8%. When integrated into the thermal management systems of lithium-ion batteries, the MEPCM effectively maintained the battery temperature below 46 °C under a 3 C charging rate. In summary, these results suggest that the hydrated salt microcapsule with its hybrid silica and graphene oxide shell is a promising material for the thermal management of lithium-ion batteries.

Construction of the Au Nanoparticle/Graphene Oxide/Au Nanotube (AuNP/GO/AuNT) Sandwich Membrane for Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering Sensing

Haibao Zhang,Yongxing Lin,Chunhong Qiao,Liang Wang,Cheng Cai,Hui He,Xingyou Tian

Au nanotube-based composite membrane served as surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate with an ultralarge aspect ratio possesses an excellent flexibility and widely tunable surface plasmon resonance, and by introducing graphene oxide (GO) as a spacer layer, the SERS enhancement of the composite membrane is obviously better than those from the individual blocks of the Au nanotubes (AuNTS) membrane and the Au nanoparticle/graphene oxide (AuNP/GO) membrane. Such a “sandwich” (AuNP/GO/AuNT) structured membrane has a high SERS sensitivity and a wide tunability by controlling the size of Au nanoparticles and the thickness of graphene oxide, and the detection limits of the AuNP/GO/AuNT substrate for R6G and NBA are as low as 10–12 and 10–7 M, respectively; the large enhancement is attributed to the adsorption and chemical mechanism of graphene oxide and the physical mechanism of the Au nanoparticles and nanotubes (the electromagnetic field coupling between them).

High-efficiency water-transport channels using the synergistic effect of superhydrophilic PA layer and robust BU cross-linked GO laminates

Xia Zhan,Teng Huo,Mingxue Nie,Rui Ge,Juan Lu,Yunxuan Weng

Graphene oxide (GO) membranes show immense promise in nanofiltration separation for water purification and recycling of water resources. However, pristine GO membranes often suffer from insufficient membrane stability due to swelling and low water permeance under high operation pressure, which severely limits the real-world utilization of GO membranes. Herein, a strategy involving surface modification of GO membrane with superhydrophilic polyamide (PA) layer combined with cross-linking with biurea (BU) amine, is proposed to fabricate highly permeable and robust GO membranes for dye removal from aqueous solution. The PA layer is prepared onto BU cross-linked GO membrane by in-situ interfacial polymerization, which results in superhydrophilic and negative-charged membrane surface. Moreover, the low reactivity of 2,5-diaminobenzenesulfonic acid (DBS) monomer contributes to low cross-linking degree and loose network of PA layer. The BU cross-linked GO laminates possess multi-level interlayer spacings and sufficient covalent interaction between GO interlayer due to crosslinking with BU, which offer large and robust transport channels for water molecules. PA@BU/GO hybrid membrane shows the optimum pure water permeability of 140.2 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 , with water permeance and TB rejection rate of 67.4 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 and 99.9 %, respectively. Moreover, the membrane exhibits impressive dye/salt selectivity (the dye/NaCl separation factor is up to 873), long-term operation stability and good anti-fouling property, which makes it a potential candidate for the fractionation of dye/salts in textile wastewater. This work provides a promising idea for the development of high-performance 2D membranes with high-efficiency water transport channels using the synergistic effect of superhydrophilic PA Layer and robust BU cross-linked GO laminates.

Fabrication of asymmetric supercapattery with faradaic and non-faradaic quantification by Co3(PO4)2/GO composite as a positive electrode

Muhammad Saqib,Ali Asghar,Zhangwei Chen,Amal A. Abdel Hafez,Majed Y.A. Almashnowi,Qumail Arshad,Majed Yousef Awaji,Yasir Javad,Mohammed Kuku,Muhammad Shahid Rashid

Transition metal phosphates are gaining attention as an environmentally sustainable and high-theoretical capacity material for electrochemical energy storage devices. This study investigates the impact of adding functionalized graphene Oxide (GO) on the electrochemical sites of cobalt-phosphate (Co 3 (PO 4 ) 2 /GO composite) because of its high surface area and electrical conductivity to open up new possibilities for enhancing the performance of energy storage devices. Herein, nanoflakes like cobalt phosphate and composites with graphene oxide were synthesized using a hydrothermal approach. The crystallinity, morphological effect, and chemical compositional analysis were analyzed via XRD, SEM, and EDS. Then, the electrochemical performance is measured in two different setups, i.e., 2-electrode and 3-electrode cell assembly. In the 3-electrodes setup, the cobalt phosphate/GO composite revealed a high specific capacity of 660 C/g, corresponding to 5 mV/s compared to the individual. In the device performance, cobalt phosphate/GO is utilized as +ev electrode, whereas -ev electrode consists of activated carbon in supercapattery. In their results, the assembled devices produced a specific capacity of 458 C/g with remarkable energy and power density of 82.69 Wh/kg and 433.33 W/kg corresponding to a current density of 0.7 A/g, respectively, with good capacitive retention of 94.77 % after 6 K cycles. Moreover, the theoretical calculation measure from Dunn's model reveals a capacitive contribution increased from 35.51 % to 71.12 % with an increase in scan rates. The study offers a new avenue for advanced energy storage applications.

A photocatalyst of graphene oxide (GO)/Ag3PO4 with excellent photocatalytic activity over decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209) under visible light irradiation

Weiyi Chen,Xiaojun Niu,Jie Wang

A series of graphene oxide (GO)/Ag 3 PO 4 composites were synthesized using ion exchange-chemical precipitation method with different GO content, and the photocatalytic reduction degradation effect on decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209) over GO/Ag 3 PO 4 was also studied. The optimized composite exhibited superior photocatalytic activity. When the content of GO was 7%, the degradation efficiency of BDE-209 could reach 97.33% in anoxic water with methanol as electron donors after 8 h of visible light irradiation, being 3 times that over pure Ag 3 PO 4 and the BDE-209 reduction generated 3Br-8Br PBDEs congeners. The photocatalytic degradation of BDE-209 has been further investigated under different reaction conditions, such as photocatalyst dosage and pH of reaction system. According to analysis of the intermediates’s generation, accumulation and distribution, we proposed that the BDE-209 reduction mechanism was the multi-electron reduction process. GO not only trapped electrons to improve the charge separation on Ag 3 PO 4 , but also fleetingly transferred the accumulated electrons to BDE-209. This study indicates that GO/Ag 3 PO 4 could be a promising material for environmental treatment of persistent pollutants.

A novel 3D N-, S-rich GO composite: Preparation, characterization and its selective adsorption properties for Cd2+ from aqueous solution

Fazal Muhammad Khoso,Jin-Gang Yu

Background Self-assembled GO-based 3D composites with porous or layered architectures have shown distinct qualities in terms of excellent selectivity and high stability. The functionalization of GO with N- and S-rich compounds can enhance its selectivity by increasing active sites for the adsorption of Cd 2+ . Method By decorating GO with 2-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole (MTD), a novel, environment-friendly, and cost-effective 3D MTD@GO 2:1/100 ° C/2 h composite with abundant active sites was successfully fabricated using a convenient facile one-step hydrothermal method. The 3D MTD@GO 2:1/100 ° C/2 h composite demonstrated exceptional selectivity and efficiency in removing Cd 2+ from aqueous solutions. Significant findings The batch adsorption studies were conducted to enhance the adsorption efficiency of 3D MTD@GO 2:1/100 ° C/2 h composite toward Cd 2+ ions, and an excellent adsorption capacity of 37.176 mg∙g -1 was obtained under optimized conditions ( t = 40 min, pH= 7, T = 298 K). The adsorption kinetic, isothermal, and thermodynamic studies showed that adsorption data were better demonstrated with the pseudo-second-order model ( R 2 = 0.999), and the Langmuir isotherm model suggested that the heterogeneous, surface chemisorption at monolayer coverage was the rate-limiting step, and the adsorption was endothermic. Analytical techniques such as SEM for morphology, elemental mapping analyses, and EDS, The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method was used to determine the specific surface area (SSA), while the Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) method was utilized to analyse the pore size distribution., Zeta potential for surface charge, TGA for thermal stability, FT-IR for functional groups, and XPS were used to understand the adsorption mechanism and characterize the prepared 3D MTD@GO 2:1/100 ° C/2 h composite. The 3D MTD@GO 2:1/100 ° C/2 h composite with good stability also had a strong possibility of Cd 2+ ion recovery ( R = 92.94 %) from aqueous solution, and a promising ability to be reused for up to seven cycles. With these prominent qualities of selective adsorption for Cd 2+ ions, the 3D MTD@GO 2:1/100 ° C/2 h composite can be a suitable and sustainable material for wastewater treatment in practice.

All-solid-state Z-scheme FeOOH/GO/g-C3N4 heterojunction for efficient tetracycline degradation via visible-light-driven peroxydisulfate activation

Decai Yang,Yongqi Li,Fuhua Mao,Chao Qu,Lanyang Wang,Youguo Luo,Kexin Shi,Qing Ye

Recently, a visible-light-driven photocatalysis coupled peroxydisulfate (PDS) activation system was developed for improving the efficiency of antibiotics degradation in wastewater. A Z -scheme FeOOH/CNNS photocatalyst was successfully applied for tetracycline (TC) degradation. In this study, graphene oxide (GO) was introduced into the fabrication procedure of the former catalyst. The optimzed FeOOH/GO/CNNS photocatalyst achieved 98.8 % TC degradation within 40 min (k = 0.0964 min −1 ), which was 2.58 and 8.53 times compared to FeOOH/CNNS and CNNS, respectively. This significant improvement can be attributed to the fact that 2D porous CNNS and GO can increase the surface area and active sites, avoiding FeOOH aggregation. Next, narrow-bandgap FeOOH improves visible-light utilization, while GO acts as an interfacial bridge to form an all-solid-state Z -scheme heterojunction, accelerating carrier separation and inhibiting recombination. Finally, radical trapping confirms • O 2 − , • OH, SO 4 •- , and h + synergistically degrade TC. This design provides a novel strategy for PDS-based efficient photocatalytic advanced oxidation.
