Phosphorescence aptasensing system for sulfadimethoxine with petal-like MoS2 nanosheets for signal amplification

Lixiang Zuo,Ran He,Li Wang,Yanli Wei

The fast and accurate detection of residual veterinary antibiotics in food has great significance for the ecological balance and human health. This study presents a room temperature phosphorescence aptasensing system for sulfadimethoxine (SDM) detection with sulfadimethoxine-aptamer (SDM-APT) modified manganese doped ZnS quantum dots (Mn-ZnS QDs) as the signaling and recognition unit. The signal amplification was achieved by petal-like molybdenum disulfide nano sheets (MoS 2 NS). As the selective adsorption of single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) on MoS 2 NS, SDM-APT-Mn-ZnS QDs are assembled on the surface of MoS 2 NS, and lead to the efficient phosphorescence quenching of Mn-ZnS QDs. Once SDM is brought in the sensing system, the specific interaction between SDM-APT and SDM will switch the conformation of SDM-APT from random coil to hairpin structure, resulting in the exfoliation of SDM-APT-Mn-ZnS QDs from MoS 2 NS, along with the phosphorescence recovery. This SDM detection system has a linear range from 2.0 ng/mL to 400 ng/mL with LOD as 0.91 ng/mL (S/N = 3) at the optimal experimental condition. The feasibility, specificity and recovery have been verified from the detection of real samples, interfering experiments and standard recovery experiments. The SDM detection system may also be applied to other residual veterinary drugs with different aptamers.

Enhanced visible to near-infrared photodetectors made from MoS2-based mixed-dimensional structures

Shirong Qin,Hanlun Xu,Mengjuan Liu,Nasir Ali,Yansong Chen,Sihan Zhao,Huizhen Wu

Two-dimensional (2D) photodetectors based on semiconducting transitional metal chalcogenides (TMDs) have attracted much attention because of its unique mechanical and opto-electronic properties which can be integrated into nanoscale-sized opto-electronic devices and complex circuits. However, the photodetection range of 2D TMDs materials based detectors are generally limited within the visible range due to its intrinsic relatively large band-gap. In addition, 2D TMDs materials also suffers from weak light absorption inherited from their atomically thin layers, resulting in a photoresponsivity that can be further improved. Herein, by combining 2D MoS 2 with zero-dimensional (0D) PbSe quantum dots (QDs) and Au nanocrystals (NCs), a novel 2D-0D photodetector (i.e., MoS 2 /PbSe@Au) is fabricated. Our MoS 2 /PbSe@Au photodetector exploits the 2D MoS 2 as the conduction channels and PbSe@Au NCs as light sensitizer, which promote the absorption of the entire device and enable appreciable photodetection extending to the near-infrared (NIR). Prominently, the mixed-dimensional photodetector exhibits high responsivity of 1.22 A/W and detectivity of 1.56*10 9 Jones (cm·Hz 1/2 ·W −1 ) at NIR (e.g., 1064 nm) compared with the MoS 2 photodetector with PbSe QDs only, which are ascribed to the more efficient two-step charge transfer process between PbSe and MoS 2 with the presence of Au NCs. We further identify the new carrier multiplication mechanism when comparing the photoresponse of our photodetectors at 405 nm and 635 nm. We found the extremely high EQE of MoS 2 /PbSe@Au photodetector at the wavelength of 405 nm (268.1%) could be ascribed to the synergism of carrier multiplication (CM) in PbSe QDs and the photo-gating effect induced by Au nanoparticles. Our study demonstrates that the novel mixed-dimensional photodetectors based on CVD-grown MoS 2 may provide a new route for designing and realizing high-performance optoelectronic devices with harvesting merits of hybrid nanomaterials.

Preparation and tribological behaviors of magnesium silicate hydroxide-MoS2 nanoparticles as lubricant additive

Zipeng Guan,Peng Zhang,Vogel Florian,Zhichao Wu,Dahai Zeng,Jun Liu,Binbin Wang,Xiaohui Tu,Shuangjian Li,Wei Li

s The tribological properties of lubricating oil during service life largely depend on the properties of lubricant additives . Herein, we present a hydrothermal synthesis of magnesium silicate hydroxide (MSH)-MoS 2 nanocomposite and evaluate its tribological performances and repairing properties on worn surfaces as lubricant additive in poly-alpha-olefin (PAO). The microstructure of MSH-MoS 2 powders is MSH nanotubes surrounded by layered MoS 2 . The tribological test results show that the anti-friction performance and wear resistance of the friction pair were improved by 27.7% and 37.4%, respectively, after adding 1.0 wt% MSH-MoS 2 into PAO. More importantly, the worn volume of the friction disk can be repaired by 33.2% after sliding 5 h under the lubrication of PAO with MSH-MoS 2 . The superior tribological performance should be attributed to the formation of robust tribofilm with low shear strength , high hardness, strong resistance to plastic deformation , and high bonding strength on the sliding surface.

Oxygen-doped MoS2 nanoflowers with sulfur vacancies as electrocatalyst for efficient hydrazine oxidation

Siqi Song,Yang Li,Yanfeng Shi,Yuanhong Xu,Yusheng Niu

Direct hydrazine fuel cells (DHFCs) fuel has drawn significant attention due to its characteristics of high energy density. Substantial effort is still needed to explore sustainable and efficient catalysts for hydrazine oxidation reaction (HzOR). Herein, inspired by reducing solvents that can protect the precursors of nanomaterials from oxidation, oxygen-doped MoS 2 nanoflowers with sulfur vacancies (O-rich MoS 2 ) were prepared via a simple synthesis method using the readily available ethanol/water as the solvent and applied as electrocatalyst for HzOR. It is found that the ratio of ethanol to water has a significant influence on the morphology of MoS 2 and the catalytic performance of hydrazine oxidation. Moreover, the concept of O-doping is proposed by introducing oxygen atoms to mostly replace bulk S atoms in the oxidation process of nanomaterials. The sulfur vacancy and doping were regarded as the main active site for the HzOR. Accordingly, the onset potential of the prepared electrocatalyst is 0.5 V vs. RHE in a 1 M KOH/0.1 M hydrazine electrolyte. This doping method can provide new ideas for improving the construction of hydrazine oxidation catalysts in the future.

PPy/PANI@MoS2 Composites with a Dual-Channel Architecture for Advanced Asymmetric Supercapacitors

Lili Luo,Xiaohong Wang,Siyu Yang,Juguo Dai,Dongxu Li,Long Xia,Cheng Chi,Andreu Cabot,Yiting Xu,Lizong Dai

While asymmetric supercapacitors (ASCs) have huge potential as efficient, durable, and cost-effective energy storage devices, they fail to meet expectations because of the unoptimized architecture and composition of their electrode materials. Herein, PPy/PANI@MoS2 (PPMS) ternary composites with a dual-channel structure are obtained by facile hydrothermal and in situ polymerization methods. These dual conductive channels synergistically improve the electrode’s electrical conductivity, facilitate ion diffusion, enlarge the interlayer distance, and increase the accessible surface area. Taking advantage of such a favorable architecture, PPMS composites exhibit outstanding electrochemical properties, including a huge specific capacitance (1171 F g–1 at 1 A g–1) and rate capability (861 F g–1 at 20 A g–1) in three-electrode systems. Based on charge storage mechanism analyses, we demonstrate that the kinetic behavior of PPMS electrodes is dominated by the surface capacitance (95.9% at 100 mV s–1). Besides, PPMS-based ASCs (PPMS//activated carbon) operate in a broad voltage window (1.8 V), delivering an ultrahigh energy density of 93.4 Wh kg–1 at a power density of 884.8 W kg–1. They also show a superior cycling stability of 90.4% and a remarkable Coulombic efficiency of 99.2% for 10,000 cycles. This work affords an inspiration for rational structural optimization of PANI-based electrode materials with great prospects in the development of next-generation high energy density ASCs.

Nano-flower S-scheme heterojunction NiAl-LDH/MoS2 for enhancing photocatalytic hydrogen production

Xinyu Liu,Jing Xu,Lijun Ma,Ye Liu,Linying Hu

The construction of heterojunctions can effectively improve the electron transport rate and photocatalytic activity. In this work, nanoflower-like S-scheme heterojunction MoS2/NiAl-LDH was successfully synthesized. The results indicated that the hydrogen yield of the MoS2/NiAl-LDH composite catalyst reached 229.5 μmol in 5 hours under visible light irradiation by adjusting the pH value of the sacrificial agent and the amount of eosin. The crystal structure and morphological characteristics of the composite were analyzed by XRD, SEM and TEM. The visible light response degree and charge separation and transfer rates of photogenerated carriers of the composite were analyzed by UV-Vis DRS, PL and electrochemistry. The electronic transfer path was also analyzed by XPS. The construction of S-scheme heterojunctions can realize effective separation of electron–hole pairs and ensure that the photo-induced carriers with the strongest redox ability can be retained to participate in the photocatalytic reaction. In addition, the feasible mechanism of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution is given. This work will provide different insights into the enhancement of hydrogen evolution by heterojunctions formed by binary semiconductors.

Vertical Phase-Engineering MoS2 Nanosheet-Enhanced Textiles for Efficient Moisture-Based Energy Generation

Yuan-Ming Cao,Yang Su,Mi Zheng,Peng Luo,Yang-Biao Xue,Bin-Bin Han,Min Zheng,Zuoshan Wang,Liang-Sheng Liao,Ming-Peng Zhuo

Flexible moisture–electric generators (MEGs) capture chemical energy from atmospheric moisture for sustainable electricity, gaining attention in wearable electronics. However, challenges persist in the large-scale integration and miniaturization of MEGs for long-term, high-power output. Herein, a vertical heterogeneous phase-engineering MoS2 nanosheet structure based silk and cotton were rationally designed and successfully applied to construct wearable MEGs for moisture–energy conversion. The prepared METs exhibit ∼0.8 V open-circuit voltage, ∼0.27 mA/cm2 current density for >10 h, and >36.12 μW/cm2 peak output power density, 3 orders higher than current standards. And the large-scale device realizes a current output of 0.145 A. An internal phase gradient between the 2H semiconductor MoS2 in carbonized silks and 1T metallic MoS2 in cotton fibers enables a phase-engineering-based heterogeneous electric double layer functioning as an equivalent parallel circuit, leading to enhanced high-power output. Owing to their facile customization for seamless adaptation to the human body, we envision exciting possibilities for these wearable METs as integrated self-power sources, enabling real-time monitoring of physiological parameters in wearable electronics.

Synchronous stabilization of Li–S electrodes by a 1T MoS2@AAO functional interlayer

Binchao Shi,Yue Wang,Ertai Liu,Shilin Mei,Chang-Jiang Yao

The fast capacity decay and limited cycling life are the two main issues that hinder the practical applications of lithium–sulfur batteries. They are mainly caused by the shuttle effect of polysulfide species and the growth of big lithium dendrites occurring separately on the cathode and anode sides. To simultaneously tackle these problems, we explore a multifunctional interlayer integrating the aligned nanochannel structure of an anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane with porous 1T MoS2 nanotubes (namely MoS2@AAO). Benefiting from the high electronic conductivity, sulfiphilic and lithiophilic properties of 1T MoS2, and the positive surface plus low tortuosity of the straight channels of AAO, the designed interlayer not only guarantees rapid ion/electron transfer and efficacious suppression of the polysulfide shuttle, but also achieves uniform and stable lithium deposition during cycling. Consequently, the MoS2@AAO interlayer exhibits a high capacity retention of 99.6% at 0.2C after 500 cycles and 90.6% at 1.0C after 1000 cycles. The prototype cathode with a sulfur loading of 5 mg cm−2 was also investigated, which exhibited over 96% retention of the initial discharge capacity at 0.1C after 50 cycles. This work provides a new solution for simultaneously stabilizing both the lithium anode and sulfur cathode via an integrating approach.

Highly efficient degradation of tetracycline by activated peroxymonosulfate over MoS2/ZnO heterostructure nanocomposites

Shoujie Jiang,Lili Wang,Yuyang Zhou,Haixiang Wang,Qiaoli Lu,Jinmei Wang,Chunxia Wang,Dawei Gao

Antibiotics, such as tetracycline hydrochloride (TC), are persistent pollutants in the environment due to their difficult degradation properties. In this study, a MoS2/ZnO heterostructure nanocomposite was synthesized and evaluated for its photocatalytic performance in degrading TC under simulated sunlight irradiation. The degradation rate of TC in the MoS2/ZnO/PMS system reached 99.8% after 30 min, surpassing the rates observed in both ZnO and MoS2/ZnO systems. The presence of active species, including superoxide radicals (˙O2−), hydroxyl radicals (˙OH), sulfate (SO4˙−) and singlet oxygen (1O2), was confirmed through trapping experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (ESR) analysis. The MoS2/ZnO heterostructure effectively suppressed the recombination of photogenerated charge carriers, leading to improved photocatalytic efficiency. The results demonstrate the potential of the MoS2/ZnO/PMS system as a low cost and efficient method for the removal of TC from water. This study contributes to the development of photocatalytic materials for the degradation of persistent organic pollutants in aqueous environments.

Coal Tar Pitch-Based Porous Carbon Loaded MoS2 and Its Application in Supercapacitors

Rui Bai,Yuan-Jia Cao,Cui-Ying Lu,Guang-Hui Liu

In this paper, with coal tar pitch as the carbon source, porous carbon (PC) was prepared by one-step carbonization. To improve the energy density of coal tar pitch-based porous carbon, MoS2@PC was prepared by a hydrothermal method on a PC substrate. The effect of MoS2 loading on the structure and electrochemical properties of the sample was studied. The results show that the specific surface area of the MoS2@PC-0.3 synthesized is 3053 m2 g–1, and the large specific surface area provides sufficient attachment sites for the storage of electrolyte ions. In the three-electrode system, the specific capacitance of MoS2@PC-0.3 at 0.5 A g–1 is 422.5 F g–1, and the magnification performance is 57.3% at 20 A g–1. After 10,000 charge/discharge cycles, the capacitance retention rate of the sample is 76.73%, with the Coulombic efficiency being 100%. In the two-electrode test system, the specific capacitance of MoS2@PC-0.3 at 0.5 A g–1 is 321.4 F g–1, with the power density and energy density being 500 W kg–1 and 44.6 Wh kg–1, respectively. At a current density of 20 A g–1, the capacitance retention rate is 87.69% after 10,000 cycles. This study greatly improves the energy density of PC as the electrode material of supercapacitors.

Water-powered Cu@MoS2 micromotor swarm for a collaborative oscillation of living cells

Chao Gao,Ye Feng,Suyi Liu,Dongmei Fu,Bin Chen,Dailing Du,Wenjing Zhang,Zhan Gao,Haihong Yang,Daniela A. Wilson,Yingfeng Tu,Fei Peng

Summary A Cu@MoS 2 microtube-based micromotor with a unique composite structure in which MoS 2 was “wrapped” on the surface of Cu microtubes confers excellent photoresponsive properties due to the unique hybridized structure. Micromotor swarms demonstrate spontaneous oscillatory motion in pure water with constant light input, without any external field changes or energetic toxic fuels. This macroscopic periodic oscillatory motion synchronized with the cycle of increasing and decreasing protons (H + ) produced by the micromotor. The H + gradient is the core of cellular ATP (adenosine triphosphate) synthesis and decomposition. Oscillating proton signals released by the micromotor can be coupled to cardiomyocytes to achieve synchronized oscillations of cell membrane potential/calcium ions and to initiate ATP hydrolysis in cardiomyocytes. The oscillatory behavior was considered to be caused by the different conversion levels of bistable reactions or by non-linear kinetics and mass transport. Specifically, MoS 2 photocatalytic hydrogen production, MoS 2 hydrolysis reactions, dynamic diffusive matter exchange from electroosmotic flow, and interfacial effects contribute to this phenomenon.

N-doped MoS2-nanoflowers as peroxidase-like nanozymes for total antioxidant capacity assay

Jing Chen,Fanghong Xu,Qian Zhang,Shuying Li

Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) Assay plays an important role in evaluating the quality of antioxidant food and monitoring the oxidative stress level of human body. It is mainly achieved by measuring the contents of antioxidants such as AA , L-Cys and GSH, while TAC can be detected by using peroxidase-like activity of artificial nanoenzyme materials. In this work, the N-Doped, defect-rich N–MoS 2 NFs nano-materials were used to build the nano enzyme , which has strong stability and high peroxidase-like activity. H 2 O 2 was detected because it can be catalyzed to generate the intermediate ·OH and make TMB appears blue. However, when H 2 O 2 , AA, L-Cys and GSH coexist in solution, due to the oxidation resistance of AA, L-Cys and GSH, they can competitively react with ·OH in solution or reduce TMB in oxidation state (oxTMB), which reduces the characteristic absorption of oxTMB, indirectly achieves the purpose of detecting AA, L-Cys and GSH, and finally realizes the determination of TAC, even in actual serum and saliva samples. At the same time, the N–MoS 2 NFs/NH 2 -MIL-53(Al)+OPD system is further constructed. Based on the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) between NH 2 -MIL-53(Al) and oxidized OPD (oxOPD), the purpose of detecting TAC by fluorescence method was realized.
