The spectroscopy of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), with its high sensitivity and specific chemical fingerprinting, has received increasing attention. A stable substrate is extraordinarily important for the trace detection of the SERS technique, but the challenge of SERS substrate production with high stability and uniformity still imposes the unavoidable barriers. In this paper, we design a multilayer core–shell-nanostructured ZrO2@Ag@SiO2 nanoparticle through liquid extraction. First, we regulated the usage of AgNO3 (1 wt %) to obtain Ag@SiO2 which is silver coated with uniform distribution; on the surface of silica, the number of silver particles is abundant. Then, we discussed the influence when different concentrations of zirconium propoxide are added on the zirconia layer’s thickness. Then, we applied FDTD simulation to explain the position of SERS “hotpots” with and without ZrO2 coating. We have found that the detection capability of ZrO2@Ag@SiO2 can be up to 10–9 M for 4-ATP; with ZrO2@Ag@SiO2 SERS substrates exposed to the atmospheric environment for up to 30 days, we could still obtain the excellent SERS signal performance contributed by the good chemical stability of ZrO2, when ZrO2 is coated on the surface of Ag@SiO2, the zirconia layer formed has a protective role . These experimental results have indicated that the outer zirconia layer could prevent the silver surface from being oxidized, ensuring its stability , which is quite crucial for the applied SERS.

A ratio fluorescent probe to detect Ag + using arginine-naphthalene imide (AN) had been elaborately designed and synthesized. The structure of AN was characterized by 1 HNMR and FTIR. The optical properties of AN were investigated by ultraviolet and fluorescence spectroscopy. The results indicated that the fluorescent intensity of AN was enhanced gradually with the increase of Ag + concentration, which was hardly affected by other metal ions such as Bi 3+ , Cd 2+ , Co 2+ , Cr 3+ , Cu 2+ , Fe 3+ , Hg 2+ , Pb 2+ , K + and Na + . A good linear correlation was displayed between the concentration of Ag + (ranging from 4.30 to 11.40 μmol L −1 ) and the fluorescence intensity ( R 2 = 0.9985). The detection limit was 0.1883 μmol L −1 . The mechanism of the sensor may be based on the principle of intramolecular charge transfer. It was expected that this novel ratio sensor could be used for the detection of silver ions in water.

Accumulation of pesticides in human body via food consumption poses health risks, hence the quantitative detection of pesticides in foodstuffs has become vital. In this study, a rapid and sensitive SERS-based sensor for detecting 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) using antibody-functionalized magnetite nanoparticles (antibody-MNPs) as enrichment probe and antigen-MBA-functionalized hollow [email protected] bimetallic nanoflowers ( [email protected] @MBA-antigen) as SERS signal probe was developed. Under the optimized conditions, a wide linear range of 0.001−100 μg/mL for sensing 2,4-D was attained with a low detection limit (LOD) of 0.11 ng/mL. The developed sensor was successfully applied to detect 2,4-D in spiked tea and milk samples with recoveries of 89.73–100.27 % and the relative standard deviation (RSD) values of 2.56–4.97 % obtained. The SERS-based sensor fabricated when validated by the HPLC, no statistical significance differences were obtained based on their computed accuracy and precision values using the student’s t- and F- tests at α = 5%.

The bacteria, which usually contaminate water environment, often cause terrible infectious diseases thus seriously threaten people’s health. To meet the increasing requirement of the public health care, an easily separable nanomaterial with sustainable anti-bacteria performance is required. This work reports a Fe3O4@PDA/Ag/PDA core-shell nanosphere in which the Ag nanocrystals immobilized on the magnetic carrier are protected by an external polydopamine (PDA) layer. The magnetic hybrid nanospheres are constructed by a tunable coating method and the particle parameters can be effectively controlled by the experimental condition. The antibacterial potential of the nanospheres is evaluable by using theStaphylococcus aureusandEscherichia colias the models. The results indicate the Fe3O4@PDA/Ag/PDA core-shell nanospheres have a high antibacterial performance by measuring the minimum inhibitory concentration and the minimum bactericidal concentration. Finally, the product is expected to have a sustainable activity because the protecting PDA layer reduce the releasing rate of the Ag+ions and the materials can be magnetically recovered from the media after the disinfection procedure.Keywords:core-shell;magnetic;Ag;antibacterial;polydopamine

A structured SERS substrate with high uniformity and sensitivity was fabricated orderly by hydrophilizing the monocrystalline silicon substrate, self-assembling a layer of dense polystyrene (PS) microsphere array on the silicon, and depositing a layer (5 nm, 10 nm, 20 nm, 30 nm or 50 nm) of silver film. Rhodamine 6G (R6G) was used as a probe to characterize the performance of Raman enhancement. Experimental results show that our sample with deposition of a 5 nm silver film (PS-Ag-5) can obtain a large number of spatially distributed local electromagnetic field hot spots, with an enhancement factor of over 108, which is several orders of magnitude higher than that of other samples. The sensitivity of PS-Ag-5 to the concentration of probe molecules and the optical enhancement effect of PS microspheres were also analyzed. This novel structured substrate can achieve considerable uniformity, and the calculated relative standard deviation (RSD) of the characteristic peak at 1650 cm-1 is approximately 8%.

Doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX) is an effective anthracycline anticancer drug . However, the exceeded taken up could induce several side-effects such as cardiotoxicity, alopecia. Therefore, the level of DOX needs to be closely monitored to avoid the occurrence of its side-effects. Herein, we report a novel core CuInSe 2 - shell ZnS quantum dots (CuInSe 2 @ZnS, QDs) and Ag nanoparticles (NPs) fluorescence sensor based on the surface plasmon resonance effect (SPR) of Ag NPs. The CuInSe 2 @ZnS QDs were prepared by water phase reflux method with the 3-mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) as stabilizer and ligand. The fluorescence intensity of CuInSe 2 @ZnS QDs/Ag NPs significantly reduced by DOX, which is mainly based on the electrostatic interaction between the DOX and fluorescence sensors. The inhibition of photoluminescence (ln F 0 /F) was linearly relationship to the concentration of DOX in the range of 2–100 μM with the detection limit as low as 0.05 μM. The as-prepared sensor has a high selectivity and sensitivity to DOX. Furthermore, the new sensor has been successfully applied to the determination of DOX in human serum samples with satisfactory results. Our work provides a clue for developing a novel CuInSe 2 @ZnS QDs/Ag NPs based fluorescence sensor for DOX detection.

In this study, the carbon fiber reinforced ZrB 2 -SiC composite ceramic was joined to Ti6Al4V alloy with Ag-Cu eutectic alloy filler at varied holding time and a fixed temperature of 800℃. Interface microstructure and shear strength of brazing joints were studied. The brazed ZSC f ceramics/AgCu/TC4 alloy is endowed with good metallurgical bondings. A typical interfacial structure of joints brazed for 10 min was found as ZSC f /TiC/Ti 5 Si 3 /Ag(s,s)/Cu(s,s) + TiC/TiCu/Ti 2 Cu/(TiC + TiCu)/TC4 alloy. Increase of holding time did not vary the precipitated phase of the joints but decreased thickness of the Ag(s, s) and Cu(s, s) reaction layer and gradually thickened the Ti-Cu reaction layer near the TC4 side. The formation process of reaction products was discussed in detail. The holding time substantially influenced shear strength of the joints. A maximum shear strength of 39 MPa was reached at a brazing time of 20 min.

Superwetting surfaces that repel various liquids have been exciting for biomimetic research and have displayed versatile potential applications. Generally, superhydrophobic coatings can allow for droplet rolling off and antifouling, whereas it is a challenge to achieve superomniphobic surfaces with transparency, flexibility, and conductivity. Here, we adopt an effective and simple method to fabricate a superomniphobic, transparent, and flexible smart silk fibroin (SF) membrane by spray-coating long AgNWs dispersed in polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), followed by treatment with vacuum drying. The resulting SF/AgNWs membranes are super-repellent to different liquids with low surface tension and water, and demonstrate high contact angles (CAs) more than 150° and low rolling-off angles (RAs) even less than 10°. Moreover, the obtained membranes display superior sensitivity under stretching and bending, as well as intact stability of high transparency, which can be considered as promising flexible sensing electronics to detect human motions under wet conditions.

Methotrexate (MTX) is a drug with broad-spectrum antitumor activity that is of great importance in therapeutic drug monitoring applications. In this essay, the two-step modified concentrated Ag colloid with the assistance of KF and MgSO 4 was used as the SERS active substrate for the ultrasensitive detection of MTX and its commercial formulations (tablets). It can be found that the two-step modification of the samples is a crucial procedure to remove the by-products in the synthesis of Ag colloid and further concentrate the Ag colloid. Under the optimal detection conditions, the minimum detection concentration of MTX is 1 × 10 −16 mol/L. And, there is a good linear relationship over a wide concentration range of 1 × 10 −16 –1 × 10 −6 mol/L. The labelled amounts of the two manufacturers of MTX commercial tablets are in the range of 96.4–104.3% with the RSDs between 1.8% and 3.5% by this method, which are in accordance with the methodological requirements. These results prove that the proposed SERS method exhibits a good reproducibility and ultra-high sensitivity for the detection of the antitumor drug MTX.

Shape-tunable PtAg nanocatalysts including PtAg nanoflowers (NFs) and PtAg nanowires (NWs) are prepared by a facile hydrothermal reduction method, via adjusting the precursor ratio of Pt/Ag and subsequent UV-irradiation. Physicochemical characterizations reveal that the as-prepared catalysts have a porous structure , which forms from the conversion of AgCl to Ag nanoparticles . These features favor both oxygen mass transfer and accessibility of active sites. The as-prepared Pt 1 Ag 4 NWs exhibit superior catalytic performances for ORR. The mass activity of Pt 1 Ag 4 NWs is 11.4 times higher than that of 20% Pt/C. More important, the electrochemically active surface area (ECSA) of Pt 1 Ag 4 NWs is 2.5 times larger than that of commercial Pt/C.

Chitosan oligosaccharide functionalized silver nanoparticles with synergistic bacterial activity were constructed as a multivalent inhibitor of bacteria. Placing the chitosan oligosaccharide on silver nanoparticles can dramatically enhance the adsorption to the bacterial membrane via multivalent binding. The multicomponent nanostructures can cooperate synergistically against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The antibacterial activity was increased via orthogonal array design to optimize the synthesis condition. The synergistic bacterial activity was confirmed by fractional inhibitory concentration and zone of inhibition test. Through studies of antimicrobial action mechanism, it was found that the nanocomposites interacted with the bacteria by binding to Mg 2+ ions of the bacterial surface. Then, the nanocomposites disrupted bacterial membrane by increasing the permeability of the outer membrane, resulting in leakage of cytoplasm. This strategy of chitosan oligosaccharide modification can increase the antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles and accelerate wound healing at the same time. The nanomaterial without cytotoxicity has promising applications in bacteria-infected wound healing therapy.

In this article, the effect of the distinctiveness and arrangements on the plasmonic resonance of Cu–Ag system were studied by finite element method , and the effect of morphologies on the plasmonic properties of Cu@Ag core@shell NPs and Cu–Ag corn-cob liked NPs was investigated by experiment. For Cu@Ag core-shell structure, as the fixed thickness of Ag-shell at 10 nm, the dipole plasmon resonance gradually blue-shifts with increasing the radius of Cu core, and as the fixed radius of Cu-core at 50 nm, the feature peak shows a red-shift and broadening with increasing the thickness of Ag shell. For Cu–Ag corn-cob structure, the feature for different Ag coverage are similar to each other and most of the them follow the blue-shifted tendency with the increase the degree of Ag-coverage. Furthermore, as the regular-shaped structure increases (form trigonal to spherical), the plasmon resonance gradually blue shifts, and finally, we use two parameters to describe the different idealized Cu–Ag structure: separation, exterior contact, intersection and core@shell. The combined information from our simulation and experiment will give guidelines for choosing adequate particles when aiming at certain plasmonic properties.
