Nanozyme possess the advantages of high enzyme simulation activity, low cost, and excellent stability. As a substitute for natural enzymes, nanozyme have demonstrated significant potential in various fields. In this study, a bimetallic organometallic framework Cu@Co-MOFs was synthesized via the hydrothermal method using terephthalic acid (H2BDC) as a ligand and characterized. Cu@Co-MOFs exhibits outstanding peroxidase activity (POD) by catalyzing the oxidation of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) and other color-developing substrates through •OH formation. A simple, rapid, and reliable colorimetric method for quantitatively detecting glutathione (GSH) was developed based on the Pod-like activity of Cu@Co-MOFs. The linear range of this method was 1–1200 μM with a detection limit of 0.72 μM. This work not only proposes a bimetallic organic framework with high POD as a straightforward and practical platform for visually detecting GSH but also provides a strategy to enhance the performance of nanomaterials.

Controlling the electronic structure of a catalyst has become an important approach to tune and optimize its antipoisoning ability and catalytic efficiency for a chemical reaction. Using d -mannitol as a structure-directing agent to induce size transformation and twinned defects in copper particles, penta-twinned Cu elongated pentagonal bipyramids as supports have been synthesized, and HAuCl 4 is reduced in situ to form an AuCu alloy on the surface of Cu, generating a self-supporting AuCu@Cu core–shell structure for application as a glucose sensor in a neutral medium. The AuCu@Cu elongated pentagonal bipyramids with 0.42 at% Au show activities comparable with the Au and Pt catalyst but are more tolerant toward Cl − than Au and more tolerant toward H 3– x PO 4 x − than Cu. The mass activity of AuCu@Cu reaches 0.10 A mg −1 of Au at 0.6 V versus Ag/AgCl (3 m KCl) in a pH 8.0 buffer. The self-supporting AuCu@Cu elongated pentagonal bipyramids are promising catalysts for glucose sensing in a neutral medium. This work offers an effective way to design antitoxic and durable catalysts with ultralow content of noble metal for glucose sensing.

In this manuscript, the third-generation hyperbranched polyester was synthesized with 2, 2-dimethylol propionic acid as AB 2 monomer and pentaerythrite as core molecule by using step by step polymerization process at first. Then, the Cu-Ag particles were prepared by co-reduction of silver nitrate and copper nitrate with ascorbic acid in the aqueous solution using hyperbranched polyester as template. Finally, the Cu-Ag@Ag particles were prepared by coating silver on the surface of Cu-Ag particles by reduction of silver nitrate. The synthesized hyperbranched polyester and Cu-Ag@Ag particles were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, UV-vis spectra, x-ray diffraction, Laser light scattering, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and SEM. UV-vis spectra results showed that the Cu-Ag@Ag particles had a strong absorption band at around 420 nm. Laser light scattering and SEM studies confirmed that the most frequent particle sizes of Cu-Ag@Ag particles were 1.2 um. TGA results indicated that the Cu-Ag@Ag particles had good thermal stability.

Highly stable Cu–Sn core–shell nanoparticles with an average size of 30 nm are synthesized by displacement reaction, which is triggered by the complexation of thiourea with copper nanoparticles. A thin Sn metal shell of 2–3 nm thickness has been fabricated onto the surface of Cu nanoparticles, resulting in the Cu–Sn core–shell structure. SEM, HR-TEM, EDS, DLS, UV–vis, IR, XPS and TGA measurements have been employed to characterize the special core–shell structure, and to confirm the stability of nanoparticles toward oxidation. It has been found that the thin Sn shell prevents the Cu core from oxidation. The effect of thiourea on the Sn reduction is also discussed. Conductive ink prepared using the nanoparticles shows high stability over a long period of storage, and are hopeful to be applied for inkjet printing technology.

Successful doping of anisotropic semiconductor nanocrystals with impurities offers an effective pathway to manipulate their physical properties and enhance the application performances. However, such doping into anisotropic nanocrystals is seldom reported because it needs simultaneous controls in the crystal growth for a specific shape and composition engineering for transition-metal doping. Here, ultrathin Cu-doped ZnSe nanorods are synthesized by a growth–doping process. The doped nanorods are characterized by XRD and TEM techniques to reveal their crystal structure. Their optical properties are described in terms of UV-Vis absorption spectra and PL spectra. The tunable emission from 480 to 520 nm evidences the successful doping of Cu into ZnSe nanorods. The effects of the reaction time, the reaction temperature and the surface ligand on the optical properties are discussed in detail. After purification, the doped nanorods with a Cu/Zn ratio of 1% give a quantum yield of 7%. This emission could be retained for weeks in air, which is important for its future applications in many fields.

Bi-based halide perovskites, with much lower toxicity than Pb-based perovskites, have triggered enormous interest in optoelectronic applications. However, most Bi-based perovskites have low-dimensional crystalline structures which may have potential negative effects on carrier transport. Herein, zero-dimensional (CHDA)BiI5·3H2O is transformed into two-dimensional double perovskite (CHDA)2CuBiI8·0.5H2O through Cu+ introduction engineering, which shows increased orbital overlap and improved electronic band structure dispersion compared with the former. Notably, a 104-fold enhancement in photoresponse on–off ratio is observed for the (CHDA)2CuBiI8·0.5H2O SC photodetector. This advancement not only enhances our understanding of the intricate relationship between crystal structure and charge transport behavior in Bi-based perovskites but also paves the way for highly efficient and environmentally friendly optoelectronic device development.

The exponential growth of electric vehicles (EVs) will lead to the large-scale retirement of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries in the future. This work proposes an environmentally friendly solid-phase strategy for regenerating waste LFP cathode materials. The regeneration mechanism is also investigated through characterizations. The method involves lithium supplementation, crystal structure repair and Cu doping. Glucose is used as a reducing agent to reduce a large amount of Fe 3+ in waste LFP to Fe 2+ , while the addition of Li + is used to fill the lithium vacancy in waste LFP. Notably, Cu doping increases the vibrational density and conductivity of the regenerated material and expands the ion diffusion channel, which significantly enhances the electrochemical performance of the regenerated LFP cathode. Moreover, the specific capacity of regenerated LFP (Cu@R-LFP) at 0.05C is 160.15 mAh/g, about 97.65 % of that of new LFP (N-LFP). The capacity retention rate of Cu@R-LFP can be as high as 81.19 % even after 1,000 cycles at 1C rate. The method proposed in this study provides a simple and scalable strategy for recycling waste LFP cathode materials.

As a greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide is also a rich carbon resource that can be effectively utilized to tackle the global warming crisis. This paper presents an in-depth investigation of the impact of the Cu content on the structure of Cu–Zn–Al layered double hydroxides (LDHs) from a novel perspective. The CO2 hydrogenation performance of the derived catalyst, the LDO, is also evaluated in the methanol synthesis reaction. All catalysts were evaluated at 3.0 MPa, a carbon dioxide to hydrogen ratio of 3, and a space velocity of 3600 mL·g–1·h–1. The results from this work indicate that the catalyst with a Cu:Zn ratio of 11:4 exhibited the highest methanol selectivity of 63.9% at 230 °C. At 250 °C, the catalysts also yielded the highest methanol selectivity of 50% only, along with a CO2 conversion as high as 17.8%. In situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) data suggest that the CO2-to-methanol reaction follows the formate (HCOO*) mechanism for this catalyst. Results from this work offer a novel approach to designing Cu-LDH-based catalysts, which offers valuable insights for the efficient chemical utilization of CO2.

Precious metals such as Pt are favoured as catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) due to their excellent catalytic activity. However, the scarcity and high cost of precious metals have prompted researchers to explore cheaper alternatives such as Cu. Nevertheless, Cu shows poor catalytic performance due to weak binding with intermediates. Here the catalytic activity of pure Cu is activated via electroreduction-driven modification of the local structure, achieving a HER catalytic performance superior to commercial Pt/C catalysts for working current densities greater than 100 mA cm −2 in acid electrolyte. Activation involved two steps. First, polycrystalline Cu 2 O nanoparticles were prepared via pulsed laser ablation, resulting in grain boundaries within the Cu 2 O particles as observed using electron microscopy. Next, the Cu 2 O particles were electroreduced to pure Cu, inducing the formation of distorted nanotwins and edge dislocations. These local structures induce high lattice strain and decrease the Cu coordination number, enhancing the interaction between Cu and intermediates—as calculated using density functional theory—leading to the excellent catalytic activity and durability of the catalyst. Our observations show that low-cost pure Cu can be a promising HER catalyst for large-scale industrial applications.

As an environmentally friendly seawater desalination method, solar interface evaporation is considered to be a promising solution to ease the freshwater shortage. In this paper, porous Cu-Fe 3 O 4 /sodium alginate/polyacrylamide hydrogel was prepared by double chemical crosslinking method using sodium alginate, polyacrylamide and Cu-Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles with good SPR effect as raw materials. The effects of Cu-Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticle concentration, light intensity and salt water concentration on the evaporation performance of hydrogel evaporator were studied. It was found that under the light intensity of 1 sun, the evaporation efficiency and thermal efficiency of 3.5 wt% seawater in the hydrogel evaporator containing Cu-Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles with a concentration of 0.26 % can reach 64.7 % and 95.24 %, respectively. In addition, the Cu-Fe 3 O 4 /sodium alginate/polyacrylamide hydrogel evaporator has good reusability and salt self-cleaning ability. The seawater desalination experiment in real environment shows that the hydrogel evaporator with low cost benefit has broad application prospects in the field of seawater desalination.

Nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotide (NADH) as biomimetic units combined with copper ion to form laccases mimics (Cu-NADH). Cu-NADH has the enhanced activity of copper center to mediate aryl C–H amination using air as green oxidants. It could successfully catalyze oxidative coupling between different aromatic compounds and 4-phenylurazole (yield: 72 ∼ 91 %). Recycling catalytic ability (up to 6 times) showed its excellent stability. The Cu-NADH nanozyme was certificated to catalyze C–H amination effectively, and highlighted that it was a proper way to design catalysts according to enzyme-like catalyzing non-natural reaction.

Interface engineering has been widely explored due to its potential for regulating the intermediate adsorption, controlling mass/electron transfer, and preventing severe aggregation of catalysts. Hence, we have synthesized a series of Cu–In metallic aerogels (MAs) with a controlled ratio of Cu/Cu2In interfaces as efficient catalysts for electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR). As a result, Cu–In MAs with the highest Cu/Cu2In interfaces abundance (Cu2In MAs) achieve the high Faradaic efficiency of CO up to 94.5% at −0.6 V vs reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE), outperforming Cu1In MAs, Cu3In MAs, Cu4In MAs, and Cu MAs. Furthermore, Cu2In MAs with the highest Cu/Cu2In interface abundance also exhibit excellent stability after continuous electrolysis for 10 h. Mechanism research indicates that the rich Cu/Cu2In interfaces in Cu2In MAs allow for moderate adsorption of CO2 and accelerate electronic transmission, which greatly reduce the energy barrier of the potential-limiting step, thus improving the CO2RR performance. This study indicates that interface engineering plays an important role in improving the CO2RR performance, providing a new strategy for preparing efficient CO2RR catalysts.
