New insights on the enhanced non-hydroxyl radical contribution under copper promoted TiO2/GO for the photodegradation of tetracycline hydrochloride

Sijia Qian,Shengyan Pu,Ying Zhang,Peng Wang,Yingchen Bai,Bo Lai

TiO 2 /graphene oxide (GO) as photocatalyst in the photo-degradation of multitudinous pollutants has been extensively studied. But its low photocatalytic efficiency is attributed to the high band gap energy which lead to low light utilization. Cu-TiO 2 /GO was synthesized via the impregnation methods to enhance the catalytic performance. The Cu-TiO 2 /GO reaction rate constant for photo-degradation of pollutants (tetracycline hydrochloride, TC) was about 1.4 times that of TiO 2 /GO. In 90 min, the removal ratio of Cu-TiO 2 /GO for TC was 98%, and the maximum degradation ratio occurred at pH 5. After five cycles, the removal ratio of Cu-TiO 2 /GO still exceeded 98%. UV–visible adsorption spectra of Cu-TiO 2 /GO showed that its band gap was narrower than TiO 2 /GO. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra test illustrated the generation rate of •O 2 − and •OH was higher in Cu-TiO 2 /GO system than TiO 2 /GO and TiO 2 system. The contribution sequence of oxidative species was •O 2 − > holes (h + ) > •OH in both TiO 2 /GO and Cu-TiO 2 /GO system. Interestingly, the contribution of •OH in Cu-TiO 2 /GO was less than that in TiO 2 /GO during the photo-degradation process. This phenomenon was attributed to the better adsorption performance of Cu-TiO 2 /GO which could reduce the accessibility of TC to •OH in liquid. The enhanced non‑hydroxyl radical contribution could be attributed to that the more other active species or sites on (nearby) the surface of Cu-TiO 2 /GO generated after doping Cu. These results provide a new perspective for the tradition metal-doped conventional catalysts to enhance the removal of organic pollutants in the environment.

Functionalization of SF/HAP Scaffold with GO-PEI-miRNA inhibitor Complexes to Enhance Bone Regeneration through Activating Transcription Factor 4

Lingling Ou,Yong Lan,Zhiqiang Feng,Longbao Feng,Junjie Yang,Yu Liu,Liming Bian,Jiali Tan,Renfa Lai,Rui Guo

Evidence indicates that microRNAs (miRNAs) play vital roles in regulating osteogenic differentiation and bone formation. Methods : Here, we show that a polyethyleneimine (PEI)-functionalized graphene oxide (GO) complex efficiently loaded with the miR-214 inhibitor is assembled into silk fibroin/hydroxyapatite (SF/HAP) scaffolds that spatially control the release of the miR-214 inhibitor. Results : SF/HAP/GO scaffolds with nanosized GO show high mechanical strength, and their hierarchical microporous structures promote cell adhesion and growth. The SF/HAP/GO-PEI scaffolds loaded with mir-214 inhibitor (SF/HAP/GPM) were tested for their ability to enhance osteogenic differentiation by inhibiting the expression of miR-214 while inversely increasing the expression of activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4) and activating the Akt and ERK1/2 signaling pathways in mouse osteoblastic cells (MC3T3-E1) in vitro . Similarly, the scaffolds activated the osteoblastic activity of endogenous osteoblast cells to repair critical-sized bone defects in rats without the need for loading osteoblast cells. Conclusion : This technology is used to increase osteogenic differentiation and mineralized bone formation in bone defects, which helps to achieve cell-free scaffold-based miRNA-inhibitor therapy for bone tissue engineering.

A novel GO/PNIPAm hybrid with two functional domains can simultaneously effectively adsorb and recover valuable organic and inorganic resources

Lei Tian,Hualin Jiang,Pinghua Chen,Qi Wang,Pingping Niu,Yangming Shi,Minghui Zhou,Yuancheng Qing,Xvbiao Luo

Competing for adsorption active sites decrease the efficiency of simultaneous adsorption of co-existent adsorbates. On the other hand, different adsorbates being desorbed at the same eluting condition will cause they are mixed together after the desorption, and ruin the recovery. Aim at these problems, a novel adsorbent with two functional domains was designed in this study. This adsorbent is a nano hybrid with two functional domains. One is GO domain which is responsible for the adsorption of inorganic metal ions ; another is PNIPAm domain which is responsible for the adsorption of organic molecules. This two-function-domain structure can avoid organic and inorganic adsorbates to compete the same adsorption active sites. Pb 2+ and 4-NP were taken as the model inorganic and organic adsorbates in this study. The locations of adsorbed Pb 2+ and 4-NP were confirmed by the results of adsorption experiments, BET and XPS analysis. The structure of hybrid was studied by FTIR, Raman spectra and TGA analysis. The hybrid exhibits high adsorption capacity toward Pb 2+ and 4-NP with high anti-inference ability. Furthermore, Pb 2+ and 4-NP can be efficiently desorped one by one with acidic or alkalinous condition, respectively. So they will not be mixed together after the desorption, and can be sequentially recovered. Due to the high efficiency and easy operation, the hybrid is considered as a promising adsorbent to simultaneously adsorb and recover organic and inorganic resources, and the method reported here could provide a new thinking way to develop highly effective adsorbents.

Layer-by-layer assembled GO-based membranes with high long-standing stability and chemical resistance applied in dye separation and desalination

Yi-Hang Gu,Xi Yan,Yan Chen,Xiao-Jing Guo,Wan-Zhong Lang

The Graphene oxide (GO) membranes, as the most studied and accessible two-dimensional (2D) membranes, have performed their expected separation performance, but instability of these delicate membranes still hinders their development. Layer-by-layer (LBL) self-assembly is one smart method for preparing versatile 2D membranes with stable structure by chemical bonds or other forces. Herein, the 2D GO laminar membranes were prepared on the modified Nylon-6 substrates via LBL method by employing positively charged P–GO (guanidine modified GO nanosheets) and negatively charged S–GO (sulfonated GO nanosheets) as assembly flakes. This smart strategy was established on the superiority of LBL method by adjusting the assembly layer number and outermost charge when faced up with the different targeted contaminants. Benefited from the compact structures and intense charge, the LBL membranes can almost remove all the employed dyes (above 98% rejection for ML11 membrane). Furthermore, these membranes also show the high selectivity to water molecular in desalination (93.4% rejection to Na2SO4 and 72.7% rejection to NaCl for ML11 membrane). The membranes can endure the filtration of dye wasterwater and salt solution for above 168 h under cross-flow mode without rejection decline. Also, these versatile LBL membranes reveal high resistance to both chemical corrosion and bacterial attack, which is suitable for the continuous separation even under hostile external environment.

Junhui Du,Haibin Liu,Hongshuo Chen,Chuanjin Cui,Wensi Zhang,Xuechao Zhang,Zhang Bin

A competitive electrochemical aptamer biosensor for the selective detection of Pb 2+ was developed in this study. The PAMAM@Au hybrid materials and the bioprobe MB-GNPs-ssDNA were synthesized with chemical methods . Modified electrode with carboxylated graphene oxide was prepared via electrodeposition . PAMAM@Au was immobilized on the modified electrode using the EDC/NHS crosslinker, and aptamer (Apt) was bound to PAMAM@Au hybrid materials using the glutaraldehyde crosslinker. The assembly of MB-GNPs-ssDNA/Apt/PAMAM@Au/GO/SPCE biosensors was achieved through immobilizing bioprobe onto electrodes, based on the theory of aptamer-complementary chain reactions. The fabricated biosensor was characterized through electrochemical experiments, SEM, AFM , TEM, XPS and FTIR . The biosensor's performance was evaluated in a series of Pb 2+ aqueous solutions by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and the results demonstrated this biosensor had excellent repeatability, stability, and specificity. The detection range spanned from 0.5 pM/L to 500 nM/L, with a detection limit of 5 fM/L. Consequently, the proposed biosensor can serve as a reliable analytical tool for the sensitive detection of lead ions .

The photocatalytic degradation of tylosin by a trimetallic ZnCrNi/GO–layered double hydroxide in the conformation of a clustered crumb sheet

Guo Chenchen,Li Ping

Industrial wastewater from drug production is one of the contributors to water pollution. For drug wastewater treatment, photodegradation-based chemical technology has gained more attention because of the drug’s microbicidal nature and stability. A zinc-chromium-nickel trimetallic–layered double hydroxide compounding with graphene oxide catalyst (ZnCrNi/GO) was synthesized and exhibited a clustered crumb sheet morphology. The prepared catalyst was characterized by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with an energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results of material analysis established the crystallographic structures of catalysts and evidenced the successful synthesis. The ZnCrNi/GO nanohybrid revealed a higher activity of approximately 90% degradation of tolysin under high-pressure mercury lamp irradiation. The optimized condition of the catalyst dosage of 500 mg/L and the natural pH of the solution at 7.0 under the tylosin concentration of 10 mg/L with high photocatalytic efficiency was explored. In addition, the main reactive species involved in this photocatalysis degradation were explored as the active cavity h+ and ·O 2− to a certain extent by the radical trapping experiments. Reuse experiments have shown that as-prepared catalysts possessed the properties of high efficiency and long-lasting catalytic performance, which could meet pharmaceutical wastewater treatment. Graphical A three-metal–layered double hydroxide composed by the metal of Ni, Zn, and Cr was synthesized and attached onto graphene oxide. The catalytic materials obtained in this way have a significant catalysis efficiency to tylosin with the likely degradation mechanism of the active cavity h + and the oxidative capacity of hydroxyl radials.

A multifunctional GO/BNN6/PVA/COL composite sponge dressing integrating negative pressure wound therapy, photothermal, and gas therapies for wound healing

Jiaqi Zhou,Jingjing Yu,Tianshuo Hu,Jingyi Li,Cuicui Ding,Lihui Chen,Min Zhang

COL and GO/BNN6 integrated into PVA matrix via low-temperature foaming • Sponge combines NPWT, photothermal therapy, and gas therapy functions. • It achieves excellent drainage capacity, wet resilience and photothermal conversion. • NIR-triggered NO release enables synergistic antibacterial effect (>96% inhibition). • In vivo results confirm accelerated wound closure and enhanced tissue regeneration. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) sponges are widely utilized as wound dressings, yet they face limitations in clinical practice, particularly in addressing bacterial infection. Herein, a multifunctional composite sponge dressing is developed by incorporating collagen (COL) and a graphene oxide (GO)/BNN6 (a nitric oxide (NO) donor) assembly into a PVA matrix. The resulting GO/BNN6/PVA/COL composite sponge exhibits a three-dimensional porous network, high porosity, excellent liquid absorption, and favorable shape retention. Benefiting from these features, the composite sponge demonstrates efficient negative pressure drainage performance in vitro, achieving a drainage flux of 3515.0 mL·s −1 ·m −2 at 16 kPa, indicating its potential applicability for negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT). Moreover, under near-infrared (NIR) irradiation, GO provides significant photothermal conversion, allowing the sponge to serve as a photothermal therapy (PTT) agent. The localized heat simultaneously triggers the controlled release of NO from BNN6, yielding a combined photothermal and NO-mediated antibacterial effect with inhibition rates exceeding 96% against Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) and Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ). Notably, in vivo experiments demonstrate that the GO/BNN6/PVA/COL sponge under NIR irradiation effectively suppresses infection, accelerates wound closure, and promotes granulation tissue formation and skin regeneration. This work presents a versatile sponge dressing that combines the key functions required for NPWT, on-demand PTT, and gas-based antibacterial treatment, demonstrating promising potential for advanced wound management. Facile electrostatic self-assembly of Ag NWs/GO/Ag NCs sandwich structure on paper for ultrasensitive detection of trace agricultural pollutants

Zhenglong Chen,Yeting Tu,Zhile Zhao,Yiqing Chen,Jingzheng Weng,Hui Lin,Yudong Lu

The engineering of multifunctional plasmonic interfaces on flexible substrates is paramount for advanced molecular sensing. In this study, a high-performance, hierarchical bimetallic SERS substrate, featuring an Ag NWs/PDDA/GO/Ag NCs sandwich architecture, was fabricated on cellulose filter paper via a facile electrostatic self-assembly strategy. By employing poly(diallyl dimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) as a molecular linker to regulate interfacial charges, we achieved the sequential, high-density loading of 1D silver nanowires (Ag NWs), 2D graphene oxide (GO), and 0D silver nano cubes (Ag NCs).Physicochemical characterizations revealed that the ultrathin GO layer functions as a dielectric nano spacer, which effectively facilitates vertical plasmonic coupling between the bimetallic components to generate high-density 3D “hotspots” while simultaneously serving as a passivation barrier against metallic oxidation. The synergy of electromagnetic enhancement (EM) from the hierarchical sandwich structure and chemical enhancement (CM) via interfacial charge transfer resulted in an exceptional enhancement factor of 2.82 × 10 6 .The engineered substrate enabled the ultra-sensitive detection of paraquat with a limit of detection (LOD) of 10 -10 M. Furthermore, it demonstrated remarkable matrix-robustness for the in situ analysis of pesticide residues in untreated tea broth, maintaining high signal reproducibility (RSD < 7%). This work provides a versatile interfacial engineering strategy for the controllable assembly of heterogeneous nanostructures, paving the way for high-performance, field-deployable surface-sensitive applications in food safety and environmental monitoring.

INTRODUCING TEA POLYPHENOLS AND VITAMIN C TO IMPROVE THE IN SITU HYDROGENATION AND REDUCTION PROCESS OF NBR AND NBR/GO LATEX

Wang Xiaolei,Pan Hongwei,Cao Lan,Wang Chunfu,Zong Chengzhong

Tea polyphenols and vitamin C are used as reducing agents that are introduced into nitrile–butadiene rubber (NBR) and NBR/graphene oxide (GO) latex systems, and the double bonds in the NBR and the GO sheet in NBR/GO are simultaneously hydrogenated and reduced through the synergistic hydrazine hydrate/hydrogen peroxide/copper sulfate catalytic system to prepare hydrogenated NBR (HNBR) and HNBR/reduced GO (RGO) nanocomposites. The degree of hydrogenation of the product is improved and the gel content of the product is reduced, which effectively solves the problems of the low degree of hydrogenation and high gel content in the diimide catalytic hydrogenation system. At the same time, the HNBR and HNBR/RGO nanocomposites, which are co-reduced by tea polyphenols and vitamin C, have good thermal stability and mechanical properties. Tea polyphenols are more likely to participate in the hydrogenation reaction. The degree of hydrogenation of the NBR double bonds is higher than the amount of reduction occurring within the GO sheet with the addition of tea polyphenols.

Overall Improvement in Dielectric, Water Resistance and Mechanical Properties of Polyimide Film via Synergy between GO and Sandwich-type Porous Structure

Yuhang Han,Yingyi Ma,Junming Zhang,Shun Yao,Kaizheng Xu

Graphical Enhancing the low-dielectric, water resistance and mechanical properties of PI film through integrating GO and a sandwich-type porous structure was achieved. Simultaneous improvement in dielectric, water resistance and mechanical properties of polyimide (PI) films is critical for their practical use, but difficult to achieve. Herein, a sandwich-type porous GO/PI film with excellent comprehensive properties was obtained through integrating a GO-containing complex, fluorine-containing porous structure and sandwich-type distribution of porous structure by a simple, low-cost and green breath figure method. With the addition of only a small amount of GO-containing complex, a low dielectric constant of 2.21, water absorption of 0.51%, increment in dielectric constant after moisture treatment of 1.60% and high tensile strength of 113.1 MPa, tensile modulus of 1.70 GPa, with 35.39%, 79.42%, 81.81% of reduction and 17.22%, 21.43% of increase compared to PI film were shown, respectively. Moreover, these properties could be adjusted through regulating the component and porous structure by changing the parameters of breath figure method. These outstanding properties make the film a promising candidate for high-performance low-dielectric materials.

Space-confined growth of 2D MOF sheets between GO layers at room temperature for superior PDMS membrane-based ester/water separation

Li-Hao Xu,Yan Li,Shen-Hui Li,Ming-Yu Lv,Zhi-Ping Zhao

Expanding the metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) category using room-temperature colloidal chemistry route with regular crystal structure is challenging, but important for reducing energy consumption and realizing an economically viable application in industry. Herein, we developed a novel advanced copper terephthalate MOF (CuBDC) between graphene oxide (GO) layers using a simple space-confined growth strategy at room temperature. The inclusion of CuBDC@GO can realize high filler loadings while maintaining uniform dispersion throughout PDMS matrix. The paralled arranged CuBDC sheets created 1D inner vertical channels, along with the enlarged GO interlayer space for rapid molecule permeselective transport. The resultant mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) with 30 wt% CuBDC@GO loading improved the separation factor from 190.6 to 576.3, and simultaneously increased the total flux from 575.2 to 1357.4 g m -2  h -1 for separating 0.5 wt% butyl acetate at 40 °C. The transport mechanism was explained by adjusting the CuBDC content in composites to examine the significant increase in membrane permeability (from 12.5 to 58.3) and selectivity (from 0.7 to 2.0). Compared to alcohol or ketone, the larger size strip-like butyl acetate molecules are ideal for rapid transport through the CuBDC-supported 1D continuous inner channels, and effectively inhibit the movement of water molecules, ultimately resulting in the largest pervaporation performance improvement in butyl acetate/water separation. This CuBDC@GO prepared by a simple, green and room-temperature synthesis route can be widely applied to prepare defect-free membranes with excellent performance for sustainable applications. We also anticipate that this advanced space-confined growth strategy can be extended to various other MOFs and applications.

Construction of double cross-linking PEG/h-BN@GO polymeric energy-storage composites with high structural stability and excellent thermal performances

Rui Jing,Huanzhi Zhang,Chaowei Huang,Fucai Su,Bojing Wu,Zongxu Sun,Fen Xu,Lixian Sun,Yongpeng Xia,Hongliang Peng,Xiangcheng Lin,Bin Li,Yongjin Zou,Hailiang Chu,Pengru Huang,Erhu Yan

To improve phase-change behavior and thermal conductivity of the PEG-based polymeric SSPCMs, a series of SSPCMs with double cross-linking networks were constructed by introducing GO and hydroxylated h-BN into the polymer molecular chains of PEG-based SSPCMs through grafted polymerization and self-assembly. GO was the main hard supporting skeleton for the PEG segment, and h-BN as 2D thermal enhanced cells continuously was linked on the GO nano-sheets, forming into double cross-linking networks with PEG segments, which has good structural stability and regularity. Thus, the SSPCMs possessed good phase-change properties, excellent thermal reliability, and high thermal conductivity. Microscopies confirmed the successfully constructed chemical structure of the SSPCMs. Energy-storage capacities of the SSPCMs could reach 149.62 J/g, which displayed no obvious change after 100 thermal cycles, suggesting a good thermal cycling stability. Moreover, thermal conductivity of the prepared SSPCMs was enhanced by 71% compared with pure PEG, showing a good heat transfer efficiency. Therefore, this study represents a creative strategy towards the development of SSPCMs for thermal energy storage and thermal management applications.
