Enhancing Performance and Stability of p-i-n Perovskite Solar Cells with Ag–Cu Codeposited Alloy Electrodes

Hu Li,Yingying Peng,Weixiang Zhou,Jun Guo,Chao Gao,Yapeng He,Mingxi Pan,Congqing Yang,Hui Huang

In the development of back electrodes for perovskite solar cells (PSCs), the major challenges are stability and cost. To address this, we present an innovative approach: Simultaneous evaporation of two independently controlled sources of metal materials was performed to achieve a uniform distribution of the alloy electrodes. In this study, Ag–Cu alloys (the molar ratio of Ag/Cu is 7/3) with a high-index crystal face (111) and a work function matching perovskite were prepared using a codeposition technique. These properties mitigate nonradiative carrier recombination at the interface and reduce the energy barrier for carrier migration. Consequently, compared to Ag based PSCs (22.77%), the implementation of Ag–Cu alloy (Ag/Cu is 7/3)-based PSCs resulted in a power conversion efficiency of 23.72%. In a 1500 h tracking test in ambient air, the Ag–Cu alloy (Ag/Cu is 7/3)-based PSCs maintained their initial efficiency of 86%. This can be attributed to almost no migration of elements from the Ag–Cu alloy electrode to the perovskite layer. Our work presents a vital strategy for improving the stability of PSCs and reducing the costs associated with the back electrode in PSCs.

Facet engineering in cadmium sulfide for efficient reduction-recovery of low-concentration gold(I) from thiosulfate solutions

Jiabei Gao,Weiquan Zhan,Ziwei Xiang,Shaoxian Song,José Luis Arauz-Lara,Feifei Jia,Peng Chen

Trace gold(I) recovery from thiosulfate solutions limits the application of thiosulfate leaching instead cyanide leaching method in industries. Here, facet engineering in cadmium sulfide (CdS) was proposed for trace gold(I) recovery from thiosulfate solutions (Au(S 2 O 3 ) 2 3− ). CdS nanomaterials with various exposing facets were obtained through adjusting the sulfur sources in hydrothermal synthesis process. It was found that Au(S 2 O 3 ) 2 3− recovery could reach 98.62 % under low concentration conditions, with a max reduction capacity of 204.95 mg/g. Besides, the recovery form of Au(S 2 O 3 ) 2 3− on CdS was metallic gold, realizing the reduction and recovery at the same time. The solution pH, sample dosage, S 2 O 3 2− , SO 3 2− , and ammonia ions as variants were considered to optimize the recovery performances. Even under the existence of interfered ions, the recovery kept very high. Au(S 2 O 3 ) 2 3− reduction on CdS was attributed to catalytic and chemical reduction. High exposed (0   0   2) facet content of CdS enhanced photocurrent intensity, thus improving Au(S 2 O 3 ) 2 3− reduction and recovery. Therefore, the work paved a way to realize trace gold(I) recovery from thiosulfate solutions via structure engineering in CdS, being expected to promote the application of thiosulfate leaching method.

Exo I-based cyclic digestion coupled with synergistic enhancement strategy for integrating dual-mode optical aptasensor platform

Ming Li,Weipeng Teng,Wenying Lu,Mingna Sun,Jinsheng Duan,Xuchun Qiu

The improvement of dual-mode techniques was of particular interest to researchers, which might enhance the detection performance and applicability. Here, a dual-mode optical aptasensor (DO-aptasensor) platform based on exonuclease I (Exo I) cyclic digestion and synergistic enhancement strategy had proposed for zearalenone (ZEN). Following the preparation of dumbbell-shaped signal probe, the Exo I-based cyclic digestion amplification performed, and then the synergistic enhancement effect carried out to achieve the Poly-HRP-based colorimetry and FAM-SGI-based fluorescence. The efficient homogeneous system realized through the magnetic separation, while the signal interference further eliminated by the graphene oxide (GO). The LOD values were as low as 0.067 ng mL −1 for colorimetry mode and 0.009 ng mL −1 for fluorescence mode, which reduced 23-fold and 172-fold than ELASA by same ZEN-Apt. This promising platform gave rise to a dual-mode optical readout, improved sensitivity and positively correlated detection. Meanwhile, the DO-aptasensor also exhibited the acceptable specificity, desirable reliability and excellent practicability. This novel avenue of aptasensor platform hold great potential for dual-mode optical monitoring of other targets, which can further expand the application scope of Exo I-based signal amplification and synergistic enhancement effect.

Gut microbiota-derived indole-3-acetic acid suppresses high myopia progression by promoting type I collagen synthesis

Li Hao,Du Yu,Cheng Kaiwen,Chen Yuxi,Wei Ling,Pei Yujun,Wang Xiaoyu,Wang Lan,Zhang Ye,Hu Xiaoxin,Lu Yi,Zhu Xiangjia

High myopia (HM) is a leading cause of blindness worldwide with currently no effective interventions available. A major hurdle lies in its often isolated perception as a purely ocular morbidity, disregarding potential systemic implications. Recent evidence suggests the existence of a gut-eye axis; however, the role of gut microbiota in the pathogenesis of HM remains largely unexplored. Herein, we provide a potential crosstalk among HM’s gut dysbiosis, microbial metabolites, and scleral remodeling. Utilizing 16S rRNA gene sequencing, we observed an altered gut microbiota profile in HM patients with a significant reduction in probiotic abundance compared with healthy controls. Subsequent targeted metabolic profiling revealed a notable decrease in plasma levels of the gut microbiota-derived metabolite indole-3-acetic acid (3-IAA) among HM patients, which is closely associated with the reduced probiotics, both negatively correlated with HM severity. Genetic analyses determined that gut microbiota are causally associated with myopia risk. Importantly, when mice subjected to HM modeling receive fecal microbiota transplantation from healthy donors, there is an increase in 3-IAA plasma levels and simultaneous retardation of HM progression along with better maintenance of collagen type I alpha 1 (COL1A1) expression in the sclera. Furthermore, 3-IAA gavage achieves similar effects. Mechanistic investigations confirm the transcriptional activation of COL1A1 by 3-IAA via promoting the enrichment of SP1 to its promoter. Together, our findings provide novel insights into the gut microbiota-eye axis in the pathogenesis of HM and propose new strategies for HM intervention by remodeling the gut microbiota and indole supplementation.

Halogen Engineering and Solvent-Induced Strategies Regulate Structural Transitions and Luminescence Switching of Hybrid Copper(I) Halides

Xia Liu,Lin Yang,Bohan Li,Yan Xu

Copper-based halides have attracted significant attention due to their unique photophysical properties and diverse coordination configurations. However, enhancing water stability and modulating structural transitions in cuprous halide materials remain challenging. In this work, we successfully synthesized three copper(I) halides, (C24H28P)CuBr2 (L1, [C24H28P]+ = hexyltriphenylphosphonium), (C24H28P)2Cu4Br6 (L2), and (C24H28P)2Cu4I6 (L3), via solvent volatilization, demonstrating exceptional water stability even after 27 days of submersion. Crystals L1 and L2 emit yellow and orange light, respectively, under ultraviolet excitation, while L3 emits green light when excited by blue light. A rapid phase transition between L1 and L2 occurs when stimulated with methanol at room temperature. Further exposure of L2 to a NaI solution can result in substitution of Br– ions by I– in [Cu4Br6]2– to form L3. Multimodal anticounterfeiting luminescent labels with high-security levels have been successfully manufactured based on sequential L1 → L2 → L3 phase transition. Moreover, a test paper designed based on L1 can be applied for low-level methanol detection. This work successfully accomplishes the coregulation of structural transformations and luminescence switching in copper(I) halides by combining methanol simulations with halogen substitution strategies, which not only deepens the understanding of the structure–property relationships but also broadens the optical applications of these materials.

Interfacial modification by 2-fluoroisonicotinic acid enabling high-efficiency and stable n-i-p perovskite solar cells

Lei Sun,Chu Zhang,Gence Bektaş,Xiaowei Li,Chunying Ma,Tingli Ma

The power conversion efficiency (PCE) of organic-inorganic halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) developed rapidly in recent years. However, the defects at the bulk grain boundaries and heterojunction interfaces acting as non-radiative recombination centres and the ion-migration channels severely hinder the charge transport and stability of the PVKs, resulting in low PCE and poor stability. One of the principal impediments to the commercialization of PSCs resides in the challenge posed by this particular aspect. In this work, we employed 2-fluoroisonicotinic acid (2-FINA) as a passivation agent to improve the PCE and stability of n-i-p PSCs by interfacial modification strategy. Owing to the presence of carboxyl (COOH) functional groups and pyridine groups, 2-FINA can strongly interact with uncoordinated Pb 2+ and regulate the growth of perovskite crystals, which in turn reduces ion migration and suppress non-radiative recombination along with improves optical properties. Thanks to these improvements, the champion n-i-p PSC solar cell, treated with 2-FINA, showed a PCE of 20.92 %, whereas the untreated one in the same batch exhibited a PCE of 17.13 %. In long-term stability tests, we demonstrated that 2-FINA treatment significantly increases the moisture resistance of non-encapsulated devices.

Ligand Homogenized Br–I Wide-Bandgap Perovskites for Efficient NiOx-Based Inverted Semitransparent and Tandem Solar Cells

Xing Zhang,Qiaoyan Ma,Yousheng Wang,Jianzha Zheng,Quanxi Liu,Liming Liu,Peng Yang,Wujie He,Ye Cao,Weiyuan Duan,Kaining Ding,Yaohua Mai

Phase heterogeneity of bromine–iodine (Br–I) mixed wide-bandgap (WBG) perovskites has detrimental effects on solar cell performance and stability. Here, we report a heterointerface anchoring strategy to homogenize the Br–I distribution and mitigate the segregation of Br-rich WBG-perovskite phases. We find that methoxy-substituted phenyl ethylammonium (x-MeOPEA+) ligands not only contribute to the crystal growth with vertical orientation but also promote halide homogenization and defect passivation near the buried perovskite/hole transport layer (HTL) interface as well as reduce trap-mediated recombination. Based on improvements in WBG-perovskite homogeneity and heterointerface contacts, NiOx-based opaque WBG-perovskite solar cells (WBG-PSCs) achieved impressive open-circuit voltage (Voc) and fill factor (FF) values of 1.22 V and 83%, respectively. Moreover, semitransparent WBG-PSCs exhibit a PCE of 18.5% (15.4% for the IZO front side) and a high FF of 80.7% (79.4% for the IZO front side) for a designated illumination area (da) of 0.12 cm2. Such a strategy further enables 24.3%-efficient two-terminal perovskite/silicon (double-polished) tandem solar cells (da of 1.159 cm2) with a high Voc of over 1.90 V. The tandem devices also show high operational stability over 1000 h during T90 lifetime measurements.

Novel angiotensin-I-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory peptides from Porphyra haitanensis: Screening, digestion stability, and mechanistic insights

Xianjiang Ye,Ran Yang,Zhizhi Yang,Baote Huang,Talha Riaz,Chao Zhao,Jicheng Chen

Food-derived peptides with angiotensin-I-converting enzyme inhibitory (ACEI) activity have garnered significant research attention. This study focused on examining ACEI peptides from Porphyra haitanensis and investigating their potential inhibitory mechanisms through a combination of in silico and in vitro methods. Five novel potential ACEI peptides (ASF: Ala-Ser-Phe, EIIL: Glu-Ile-Ile-Leu, LCVPR: Leu-Cys-Val-Pro-Arg, LDVVN: Leu-Asp-Val-Val-Asn, and LSPSW: Leu-Ser-Pro-Ser-Trp) were identified through a combination of peptidomics and in silico bioinformatics analysis, of which LSPSW showed the highest activity (IC 50 : 5.27 ± 0.53 μM). After simulated gastrointestinal digestion (SGD), the activities of LCVPR and LSPSW remained almost unchanged. The results from inhibition kinetics and molecular docking demonstrated that ACEI peptides with differing inhibition mechanisms could successfully bind to ACE through hydrogen bonds. Based on network pharmacology analysis and cellular experiments, LSPSW exerted antihypertensive effects by regulating the expression levels of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma (PPARG), prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2 (PTGS2), and renin (REN). This research provided a novel theoretical foundation for the high-value application of P. haitanensis .

NIR-I Excitable and NIR-II Emissive Cr, Yb, Co-Doped Cs2NaScCl6 Double Perovskite Halides for Biodetection

Ting Zhang,Xiaoqian Zhang,Qinan Mao,Fangyi Zhao,Heyi Yang,Xinyue Li,Jiasong Zhong

Lanthanide doping has been instrumental in tuning the emissions of double perovskite halides (DPHs) into the near-infrared (NIR) region. However, the limited penetration depth of UV excitation and typically low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of these materials restrict their utility in biomedical applications. In this paper, Cr3+-doped lead-free DPHs (Cs2NaScCl6:Cr3+) have been explored, featuring a broadband NIR emission spanning 800–1300 nm and an impressive PLQY of 76.9%. Oriented toward biological applications, we employ Yb3+ as a codopant to be introduced into Cs2NaScCl6:Cr3+. The novel Cs2NaScCl6:Cr3+,Yb3+ crystal powder displays a red-shifted emission (peaking at 995 nm) with a remarkably narrower full width at half-maximum (fwhm) of 51 nm. Importantly, the efficient energy transfer between Cr3+ and Yb3+ enables Cs2NaScCl6:Cr3+,Yb3+ to maintain a PLQY of 46.1% upon 780 nm excitation. Leveraging its NIR-I excitable and NIR-II emissive properties, Cs2NaScCl6:Cr3+,Yb3+ presents great potential in biodetection and bioimaging applications. Its superior energy transfer efficiency, high PLQY, and favorable spectral characteristics position this material as a promising candidate for advanced biomedical techniques requiring deep tissue penetration and high imaging contrast.

Multilayer Electrode Strategy Shorten Thermal Charging Time and Boost Energy Output in Gelatin-Based i-TE Cells

Yuchen Li,Shuaihua Wang,Mao Yu,Huan Li,Benben Li,Kang Zhu,Weishu Liu

Gel-based ionic thermoelectric (i-TE) cells provide alternative thermal energy harvesting from the environment, showing obvious advantages in voltage matching for self-powered Internet-of-Things (IoT) sensors. However, the gel-based i-TE cells always suffer a long thermal charging time and poor output power performance. Herein, a multilayer electrode engineering strategy is proposed from the device-design level, aiming to decrease the ions' diffusion distance, increase the electrode surface area, and facilitate the ions' reaction and recovery process. The thermal charging time is shortened from 27 to 8 min as the electrode layers increase from 2 to 8. An ultrahigh instantaneous power density of 15.8 mW m −2 K −2 and 2 h output energy density ( E 2h ) of 403 J m −2 are achieved in an 8-layer electrode i-TE cell. Finally, A flexible and wearable i-TE device with 20 units is demonstrated to generate a remarkable voltage of 3.8 V and output power of 282 µW by harvesting the human body heat. This work provides a feasible and effective route to design the i-TE device, hopefully promoting its practical power generation application.

Highly Luminescent CsPbX3 (X=Cl, Br, I) Nanocrystals Achieved by a Rapid Anion Exchange at Room Temperature

Shaofan Fang,Guangshe Li,Yantong Lu,Liping Li

Graphical Lifting the curse : We reported on a novel route by using solid metal halides as halide sources that achieve an anion exchange with CsPbX 3 without any pretreatment. Introducing small amounts of oleic acid or oleylamine speed up the exchange reaction rate, although showing different promotion mechanisms (see figure). Cesium lead halide perovskite (CsPbX 3 ) nanocrystals (NCs) exhibit an excellent photoelectric performance, which is directly governed by fine-tuning of the composition and preparation of materials with a special phase structure and morphology. However, it is still facing challenges to achieve highly stable and luminescent CsPbX 3 NCs at room temperature. Herein, we report on a novel exchange reaction, in which metal halides MX 2 (M=Zn, Mg, Cu, or Ca; X=Cl, Br, or I) solids act as anion source to directly prepare CsPbX 3 NCs at room temperature without any pretreatment. Introducing small amount of oleic acid or oleylamine speed up the exchange reaction through different promotion mechanisms. Oleic acid coordinates to the surface of the NCs, which increases the reaction activity, and oleylamine greatly enhances the dissolution of ZnCl 2 . XRD and TEM tests demonstrate that the cubic phase structure and the morphology of the parent CsPbX 3 were well preserved. Moreover, the band-gap energies and photoluminescence (PL) spectra were readily tunable over the entire visible spectral region of λ =406–685 nm. Our findings could open up the possibilities of using metal halide solids as new anion sources to prepare high-quality CsPbX 3 NCs at room temperature.
