High-entropy oxides (HEOs) with numerous functional features such as high structure stability and superionic conductivity are considered as promising candidates of electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). In this study, a series of single-phase spinel-structured high-entropy oxides (FeCoNiCrMnXLi) 3 O 4 (X = Cu, Mg, Zn) consisted of seven metal elements at equal molar ratio were synthesized by solid phase method. In-situ high-temperature XRD technique was used to investigate the structure evolution of (FeCoNiCrMnZnLi) 3 O 4 and a single-phase HEO was acquired at 900 °C. As the anode of LIBs, all the HEOs (FeCoNiCrMnXLi) 3 O 4 display excellent cyclic stability and rate capability owe to the expedite three-dimensional Li + transport pathways of spinel structure, the entropy-dominated phase stabilization effect together with the abundant oxygen vacancies introduced by the incorporation of Li + . In comparison, the (FeCoNiCrMnZnLi) 3 O 4 anode containing electrochemical active Zn with tetrahedral coordination structure shows better electrochemical lithium storage performances among the three samples. The ex-situ XRD of (FeCoNiCrMnZnLi) 3 O 4 during the discharge/charge procedure shows an amorphous state structure after the first lithiation process and it retained for the de-lithiation process. This work provides a new strategy to design high-entropy energy-storage material and pave the way for understanding the storage mechanism of HEOs.

MgNi-based alloys have high electrochemical capacity as anode of nickel-metal hydride (Ni/MH) battery (≥500 mAh g −1 ). However the capacity decay seriously in charge-discharge cycling, which is previously ascribed to the corrosion of Mg. To solve this problem and reveal the related mechanism, the electrochemcial properties of Mg 0.50 Ni 0.50 , Mg 0.45 Ti 0.05 Ni 0.05 and Mg 0.40 Ti 0.10 Ni 0.50 alloys are studied in combination with their hydrogen storage properties and microstuctural evolution during cycling. This work demonstrates the amorphous phase in milled Mg 0.45 Ti 0.05 Ni 0.50 and Mg 0.40 Ti 0.10 Ni 0.50 alloys has higher resistance to hydrogenation-induced crystallization than milled Mg 0.50 Ni 0.50 alloy. Thus, they show better hydrogen absorption/desorption reversibility and contribute to the reversible electrochemical capacity. Therefore, the cycle performance of the Mg 0.50 Ni 0.50 alloy electrodes shows obvious improvement after partially substituting Mg by Ti. The capacity retention rate increases from 24.0% (Mg 0.50 Ni 0.50 ) to 55.7% (Mg 0.40 Ti 0.10 Ni 0.50 ) after 30 cycles. In addition, the Ti addition results in the formation of TiNi phase, and thus, the alloys show better electrochemical reaction kinetics and their high-rate dischargeability (HRD) is significantly improved. At 300 mA g −1 , the HRD values of Mg 0.50 Ni 0.50 , Mg 0.45 Ti 0.05 Ni 0.50 and Mg 0.40 Ti 0.10 Ni 0.50 alloys are 41.7%, 83.7% and 90.3%, respectively. At higher discharge current density of 1200 mA g −1 , the HRD values are 26.7%, 34.8% and 46.2%, respectively.

Magnesium hydride is considered as a promising candidate for hydrogen storage; however, the sluggish kinetics and thermodynamic stability seriously obstruct its industrial applications. Hence, in order to improve the hydrogen storage performances of magnesium hydride, NiS@C additive was ball-milled with Mg powder to build NiS@C/Mg. The MgH2/Mg2NiH4 polyphase hydrides were in situ formed after hydrogenated activation and turned into Mg/Mg2Ni phases during the dehydrogenation process, establishing a cycle of hydrogen absorption and desorption. The NiS@C/Mg composite showed enhanced de/hydrogenation rates: it could quickly absorb 6.02 wt % H2 within 5 min at 250 °C and desorb 5.34 wt % H2 at 300 °C. Moreover, even at the temperature of 50 °C, it could reach 3.23 wt % hydrogen absorption capacity, and the apparent hydrogen desorption activation energy for MgH2 decreased to 60.45 kJ mol–1. It also delivered a high cyclic stability performance of 98.9% for hydrogen absorption and 98.5% for hydrogen desorption after 50 cycles. The enhanced de/absorption kinetics of NiS@C/Mg were ascribed to the synergistic effects of multiple-phase MgH2/Mg2NiH4 hydrides and the in situ formed MgS catalyst, and the existence of C also effectively prevented the passivation and agglomeration of multiple-phase particles. The method of in situ generating of multiple-phase hydrides and catalysts provides a new view for the preparation of high-performance hydrogen storage materials.

A glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with Mg-Al-SDS hydrotalcite-like clay (SDS-HTLC) was used for the sensitive voltammetric determination of 2-nitrophenol (2-NP) utilizing the oxidation process. The results indicate the prepared modified electrode has an excellent electrocatalytic activity toward 2-NP oxidation, lowering the oxidation overpotential and increasing the oxidation current. Under optimal conditions, the oxidation current was proportional to 2-NP concentration in the range from 1.0×10 −6 to 6.0×10 −4 M with the detection limit of 5.0×10 −7 M by DPV ( S / N =3). The fabricated electrode was applied for 2-NP determination in water samples and the recovery for these samples was from 95.6 to 103.5%.

Sepiolite (SEP)-based solid amine is considered as a low-cost adsorbent for CO 2 capture. However, the inferior physical structure and constrained chemical properties impede its further development. Herein, by utilizing magnesium-containing waste liquid from acid-treatment sepiolite as a precursor, MgO nanostructures that act as pillars, permanently propping open the sepiolite layers and creating a Mg pillared sepiolite support (SEPMgO) with a high surface area (279 m 2 /g) and large pore volume (0.75 cm 3 /g), achieving the resource utilization of waste. Pentaethylenehexamine (PEHA) was impregnated onto SEPMgO to synthesize an adsorbent. The SEPMgO-PEHA 0.9 adsorbent achieved the optimal CO 2 adsorption capacity of 3.2 mmol/g at 60 °C. The adsorption capacity only decreased by 10 % after ten cycles. In-situ DRIFTS analysis reveals the capture process of SEPMgO-PEHA 0.9 follows zwitterion and base-catalyzed hydration mechanism, with the latter being significantly promoted by the alkaline environment provided by magnesium oxide. Life cycle assessment validated a low carbon footprint of 0.136 t of CO 2 emissions per tonne captured, marking a 25% reduction compared to SBA-15-based sorbents. The SEPMgO-PEHA 0.9 adsorbent is a promising candidate for the application of mineral materials in CO 2 capture and sustainable development.

Magnesium ion batteries (MIBs) offer promising solutions for next-generation sustainable energy storage systems owing to their intrinsic safety and cost-effectiveness, yet their development is hindered by the scarcity of high-capacity cathode materials, primarily due to poor magnesium ion transport and a limited number of electrochemically active sites. Here, we report a significant performance breakthrough in a structurally and electrochemically distinct, underexplored quasi-1D pseudolayered titanium trisulfide (TiS3) cathode through interlayer engineering and exploitation of dual cationic/anionic redox chemistry. In operando and ex situ characterization reveal that interlayer expansion, induced by the intercalation of 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium (BMPyrr+), weakens electrostatic interactions within the sulfide sublattice, enhances magnesium ion diffusion kinetics, and increases accessible redox sites. These modifications activate reversible Ti4+/Ti3+ and S22–/S2– redox couples, complemented by nanosizing-induced pseudocapacitance, synergistically underpinning the exceptional electrochemical performance. As a result, the expanded TiS3 cathode delivers outstanding reversible capacities (up to 300 mA h g–1 at 100 mA g–1), excellent rate performance (181 mA h g–1 at 1000 mA g–1), and long-term cycling stability, surpassing its pristine counterpart and many state-of-the-art MIB cathodes. This work underscores the combined role of interlayer engineering and dual-ion redox chemistry in advancing multivalent energy storage and introduces pseudolayered TiS3 as a new structural platform beyond conventional layered sulfides.

In this paper, we report on the fabrication of MXenes sandwiched by carbon nanospheres (MXenes@C) and their application as an electrode for magnesium-ion storage. The heterostructure synthesis is realized via electrostatic interactions between negatively charged 2D MXene nanosheets and positively charged 3D carbon nanospheres. This approach effectively opens up the interlayer and prevents the restacking of MXene nanosheets, thus promoting the electrolyte transport and shortening the ion diffusion path. Through ex situ X-ray diffraction characterization and density functional theory computations, the magnesiation/demagnesiation mechanism and Mg-migration kinetics of the tailored Ti3C2Tx@C nanospheres are elucidated. Using Ti3C2Tx@C as a cathode for magnesium-ion batteries, a remarkable reversible specific capacity (198.7 mA h g−1 at 10 mA g−1), outstanding rate capability (123.3 mA h g−1 at 200 mA g−1), and impressive cycling stability (∼85% capacity retention after 400 cycles) are achieved. This method can also be applied to other MXenes, such as V2CTx, to prepare a sandwich-structure with nice rate performance and cycle life. The synthesis of MXene@C nanospheres using a simple self-assembly method offers new and feasible avenues to develop promising Mg-storage materials with excellent capacity and long cycle life.

Interactions between metals and heteroatom-coordinated sites on the carbon matrix are crucial for enhancing the kinetics and thermodynamics of Mg/MgH 2 . Herein, we reported a sustainable K 2 FeO 4 activation strategy that converts high-sulfur petroleum coke into a sulfur self-doped porous carbon hosting FeNi–S coordinated active sites. Tailoring the alloyed electronic structure and exposing more catalytically active sites substantially enhanced the hydrogenation and dehydrogenation kinetics of Mg/MgH 2 with (FeNi)S@PPC. Its peak dehydrogenation temperature was 95.39 °C lower than that of ball-milled MgH 2 . In addition, it enabled MgH 2 to release 4.89 wt.% H 2 within 20 min at 275 °C, exceeding its sulfur-free counterpart (FeNi)@PPC by 1.41 wt.%. Moreover, the (FeNi)S@PPC/MgH 2 showed 99.5% capacity retention after 30 cycles, indicating excellent reversibility. Mechanistic investigations revealed that intrinsic sulfur self-doping induced a stable FeNi–S coordination environment, which lowered the D-band center of FeNi to −1.349 eV. The electronic redistribution was found to weaken the FeNi–(H) intermediate, lowering the dissociation and diffusion energy barrier by 0.39 eV and facilitating hydrogenation. This also reduced the energy required for Mg–H dissociation into H 2 by 0.65 eV. Consequently, the dehydrogenation activation energy was decreased to 97.09 kJ·mol − 1 , with the rate-limiting step shifting to a low-energy barrier three-dimensional interfacial reaction (R3 model). Overall, this study establishes a green valorization route for high-sulfur petroleum coke and elucidates a fundamental metal–sulfur charge transfer mechanism that substantially enhances magnesium-based hydrogen storage.

Electrodeposition of an aluminum coating is an effective approach for improving the corrosion resistance of LA103Z Mg-Li alloy. In this study, aluminum coatings were electrodeposited on LA103Z alloy from an AlCl 3 -Et 3 NHCl ionic liquid electrolyte with CeCl 3 as an additive. The effects of CeCl 3 concentration (1 mmol·L -1 ∼0.1 mol·L -1 ) on the morphology, composition, microstructure, and corrosion resistance of the coatings were systematically investigated. Results show that within the range of 1 mmol·L -1 ∼0.01 mol·L -1 , the coating grain structure became fine and uniform. As the concentration increased to 0.1 mol·L -1 , the Ce content in the coating rose, leading to surface cracks and increased roughness. At a cerium concentration of 5 mmol·L -1 , Ce in the coating is predominantly present as trace amounts of Ce 2 O 3 and CeO 2 . Polarization measurements conducted in a 3.5 % NaCl solution reveal a corrosion potential of -1.43 V and a corrosion current density of 34.88 μA·cm -2 .

The simultaneous enhancement of capacity, rate capability, and cycling stability is crucial for developing supercapacitor electrode material. In this work, Mg-doped NiCoP nanoflowers (MNCP) grown on graphene hydrogel (MNCP-GH) are fabricated on a Ni foam substrate (MNCP-GH/NF). The MNCP-GH/NF electrode offers abundant active sites, good conductivity, and structural stability. As a Lewis acid, the Mg ion can modulate the electron distribution around NiCoP, thereby raising the oxidation state of the active metal centers and further increasing the number of redox-active sites. GH with hierarchical pores and a large surface area endows a high MNCP-GH loading of 8.0 mg cm −2 . In addition, the conductive GH skeleton not only acts as a robust and conductive support for immobilizing MNCP nanoflowers but also establishes an interconnected electron transport pathway and facilitates rapid ion diffusion. Consequently, the MNCP-GH/NF electrode achieves excellent areal and mass-specific capacities of 10,560 mC cm −2 and 1320 C g −1 at 2 mA cm −2 . Remarkably, an excellent capacity retention of 73.2% at 100 mA cm −2 exhibits its outstanding rate performance. The assembled solid-state MNCP-GH/NF||polyvinyl alcohol-potassium hydroxide (PVA-KOH)||GH/NF supercapacitor delivers an energy density of 53.7 Wh kg −1 (4.3 mWh cm −3 ) and a power density of 18,749 W kg −1 (1499 mW cm −3 ). Moreover, the assembled device also maintains 85.7% of its original capacitance after 10,000 cycles. It is a promising and versatile strategy for designing bifunctional cathodes toward long-term stability and high energy storage. Graphical

Industrial-level alkynols electrocatalytic semi-hydrogenation using seawater as hydrogen source offers a sustainable alternative to conventional thermocatalytic routes, yet remains limited by the lack of efficient and robust electrocatalysts. Here, we report the synthesis of Nd 1 Gd 1 dual atomic site on metallene for co-production of alkenol and magnesium hydroxide in the seawater system. Nd 1 Gd 1 Pd metallene achieves a selectivity of ≈96.7% and a Faradaic efficiency of ≈87.3% for the conversion of 2-methyl-3-butyn-2-ol to 2-methyl-3-buten-2-ol at −150 mA cm -2 in a flow-cell system, and maintains ≈98.0% selectivity at 1.2 A for over 300 h of continuous operation, achieving the long-term stable co-electrosynthesis of alkenols and magnesium hydroxide in natural seawater at industrial-scale currents. Techno-economic analysis reveals a projected product revenue of at least $8,499 per ton of 2-methyl-3-buten-2-ol, underlining the industrial viability of this process. Mechanism investigations illustrate dual hydrogen-spillover and co-catalytic effects on Nd 1 Gd 1 Pd, promoting migration-reaction coupling mechanism of reactive *H to synergize hydrogenation. This work provides a seawater electrocatalytic semi-hydrogenation system and proposes an optimization strategy by atomically engineered dual hydrogen-spillover effect.
