It is first reported that an all-solid-state Z-scheme NaNbO 3 -Au-Sn 3 O 4 nanocomposite photocatalyst can be prepared by ultrasonic dispersion and calcination methods. In NaNbO 3 -Au-Sn 3 O 4 , NaNbO 3 and Sn 3 O 4 form a Z-scheme photocatalytic system, Au as an electron transfer channel accelerates the flow rate of the photo-induced electrons. Their effective combination can not only improve the utilization ratio of sunlight but also achieve the effective segregation of photo-induced electron-hole pairs. The fabricated samples were characterized by XRD, Raman spectra, SEM, TEM, UV–vis DRS, XPS and PL. In addition, the activity of the NaNbO 3 -Au-Sn 3 O 4 photocatalyst was researched via the photocatalytic degradation of carbofuran in wastewater under sunlight irradiation. The sunlight illumination time, NaNbO 3 and Sn 3 O 4 mole ratio, cycle number and pesticides types as influence factors on the photocatalytic degradation efficiency of Z-scheme NaNbO 3 -Au-Sn 3 O 4 photocatalyst are investigated in detail. The possible mechanism and degradation pathways for the photocatalytic degradation of carbofuran caused by Z-scheme NaNbO 3 -Au-Sn 3 O 4 photocatalyst under sunlight irradiation are put forward. The research results show that the all-solid-state Z-scheme NaNbO 3 -Au-Sn 3 O 4 photocatalyst displays a wonderful activity for degradation of carbofuran in wastewater.

The development of a facile strategy to construct stable hierarchal porous heterogeneous photocatalysts remains a great challenge for efficient CO 2 reduction. Additionally, hole-trapping sacrificial agents (e.g., triethanolamine, triethylamine, and methanol) are mostly necessary, which produce useless chemicals, and thus cause costs/environmental concerns. Therefore, utilizing oxidation ability of holes to develop an alternative photooxidation reaction to produce value-added chemicals, especially coupled with CO 2 photoreduction, is highly desirable. Here, an in situ partial phosphating method of In 2 O 3 is reported for synthesizing InP–In 2 O 3 p-n junction. A highly selective photooxidation of tetrahydroisoquinoline (THIQ) into value-added dihydroisoquinoline (DHIQ) is to replace the hole driven oxidation of typical sacrificial agents. Meanwhile, the photoelectrons of InP–In 2 O 3 p-n junction can induce the efficient photoreduction of CO 2 to CO with high selectivity and stability. The evolution rates of DHIQ and CO are 2 and 3.8 times higher than those of the corresponding In 2 O 3 n-type precursor, respectively. In situ irradiated X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electron spin resonance are utilized to confirm that the direct Z-scheme mechanism of InP–In 2 O 3 p-n junction accelerate the efficient separation of photocarriers.

Ag3PO4/sulfur-doped g-C3N4 heterojunctions were fabricated by the means of a facile calcination and co-precipitation method. Structural characterization suggested that Ag3PO4 was successfully loaded onto sulfur-doped
g-C3N4. The absorption band edges of sulfur-doped g-C3N4 were shifted to the longer wavelength in comparison with bulk g-C3N4. The Ag3PO4/sulfur-doped g-C3N4 heterojunctions manifested
substantially higher visible-light photocatalytic performance as compared with Ag3PO4/bulk g-C3N4. Photoluminescence spectra suggested that the stable Ag3PO4/SGCN heterojunctions could effectively address the electron—hole
recombination rate, together with remarkably enhancing the photocatalytic activity. The enhancement of light absorption and better dispersion in Ag3PO4/sulfur-doped g-C3N4 provide more migration channels, together with posing crucial responsibility
for the enhanced photocatalytic performance.

Silver orthophosphate (Ag 3 PO 4 ) based semiconductor photocatalysis have been widely investigated for environmental purification due to its strong oxidation ability. Yet, its poor photostability and low photoactivity hamper its extensive applications. Here, an inorganic-organic Z-scheme photocatalytic system for antibiotic degradation demonstrated high photoactivity and stability through the use of Ag 3 PO 4 /Perylene diimide organic supermolecule (PDIsm). The apparent rate constant of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC-H) degradation with Ag 3 PO 4 /PDIsm was 1.5 times that of Ag 3 PO 4 and 8 times that of PDIsm. The photocatalytic activity of Ag 3 PO 4 /PDIsm toward TC-H still kept 65 % after four reuses, while pure Ag 3 PO 4 only kept 22 %. We revealed that this high photoactivity and photostability arisen from the efficient carriers separation and the formation of direct Z-scheme junction. Importantly, this Z-scheme electron transfer pathway was confirmed by thorough experimental study and density functional theory (DFT) calculation. This work demonstrated the significant potential of Ag 3 PO 4 -based inorganic-organic Z-scheme photocatalyst in environmental remediation.

A novel three-dimensional (3D) ZnIn 2 S 4 /WO 3 (ZIS/WO 3 ) photocatalyst is prepared via a simple hydrothermal method and used as photoanode material in constructing photoelectrochemical (PEC) immunosensor of prostate specific antigen (PSA). The photocatalyst presents high activity, and its photocurrent intensity is up to 23 and 7 times of WO 3 and ZnIn 2 S 4 (ZIS) respectively, under 430 nm light illumination. The improved PEC behavior is due to the sensitization and 3D structure of ZIS and the formation of Z-scheme heterojunction between ZIS and WO 3 , which greatly enhance light harvesting, promote the spatial separation of interfacial charges and prolong the lifetime of photogenerated electrons. At the same time, the high oxidation capacity of valence band holes of WO 3 is retained. A label-free PEC immunosensor is fabricated by using the photocatalyst, and it shows good performance for PSA detection. The linear response range is 0.01–500 ng/mL, and the detection limit is low to 5 pg/mL. Moreover, the PEC immunosensor afforded high stability, specificity and reproducibility. Therefore, it possesses great application potential in biological/clinical analysis.

Photocatalytic technologies capable of using solar energy for environmental restoration have much progressed with the increasing environmental concern. In this study, the ternary photocatalyst Ag 3 PO 4 /NG/g-C 3 N 4 conforming to the Z-scheme mechanism was prepared by a facile in-situ deposition method . Its morphology, chemical composition and optical property were determined by X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscope, Fourier transform infrared, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. Such photocatalyst (0.50 g/L loading) achieved the highest 93.6% degradation rate of tetracycline (TC), and 72% mineralization rate of TC comparing with single Ag 3 PO 4 (25% mineralization rate of TC). The detection of reactive oxidative species indicates that the photodegradation of TC is mainly caused by holes, O 2 − and OH. The synergistic effect of Ag 3 PO 4 , nitrogen-doped graphene (NG) and g-C 3 N 4 in the composite accelerates the separation and migration of photogenerated carrier via a solid electron mediator NG , and simultaneously inhibits the photo-corrosion of Ag 3 PO 4 , thereby improving the photo-stability of the ternary photocatalyst.

Chlorophenols (CPs) have been considered as a kind of priority environmental pollutants for their potential detrimental effects, and photocatalytic reduction dechlorination tend to be a promising approach to CPs’ removal. In this work, 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) was adopted as the model pollutant of CPs, and a simple mixing and heating method was employed to prepare graphitic carbon nitride and bismuth tungstate (g-C 3 N 4 /Bi 2 WO 6 ) binary photocatalysts. Under UV–vis light irradiation and anoxic atmosphere, the g-C 3 N 4 /Bi 2 WO 6 samples exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activities. The optimal dechlorination rate constant of 2,4-DCP over g-C 3 N 4 /Bi 2 WO 6 (weight ratio 3:7) was 1.13 h −1 , 7.6 and 8.9 times higher than that of pristine g-C 3 N 4 and Bi 2 WO 6 respectively. The enhanced activities originated from the effective suppression of charge recombination and extended spectrum absorption range. Kinetic studies revealed that the dechlorination processes followed the pseudo-first-order model. The photocatalytic mechanism of 2,4-DCP over g-C 3 N 4 /Bi 2 WO 6 was discussed in detail, and based on which, a mediator-free Z-scheme mechanism was proposed. This work extends the application range of g-C 3 N 4 /Bi 2 WO 6 photocatalyst and provides a new insight into environmental remediation.

In this work, an excellent ternary visible-light all solid Z-scheme photocatalytic heterojunction of g-C 3 N 4 /GO/AgBr has been prepared by the attachment of graphene oxide (GO) to the surface of g-C 3 N 4 , followed by in-situ growth of AgBr nanoparticles on GO sheets. The g-C 3 N 4 /GO/AgBr heterojunction exhibits excellent photocatalytic efficiency for RhB degradation, which is about 17.5, 7.9, 3.5, 4.0 and 2.2 times as high as that of P25, g-C 3 N 4 , AgBr, g-C 3 N 4 /GO and g-C 3 N 4 /AgBr heterojunction, indicating the introduction of GO into the system largely improved the capability of the photocatalysis since GO acted as the charge transmission bridge between g-C 3 N 4 and AgBr. Moreover, the photocatalytic performance of g-C 3 N 4 /GO/AgBr just showed a slight decrease after 4 degradation cycles, demonstrating a high stability of the g-C 3 N 4 /GO/AgBr photocatalyst. The photocatalytic mechanism investigation indicated that O 2 − and h + are the major active species in the photocatalytic process. It is expected that the GO-inserted Z-scheme photocatalytic heterojunction could be applied to practical pollutant degradation.

The novel visible-light-driven 3DOM-SrTiO 3 /Ag/Ag 3 PO 4 ternary composites were fabricated and used as photocatalysts in the degradation of organic contaminants, including RhB, phenol , and MB. Through the XRD, SEM, TEM, DR UV–vis, XPS, PL spectroscopy, N 2 sorption , and photoelectrochemical measurement, the obtained 3DOM-SrTiO 3 /Ag/Ag 3 PO 4 ternary composites were well characterized. The effects of SrTiO 3 :Ag 3 PO 4 molar ratio and stop-bands of 3DOM-SrTiO 3 on the catalytic performance were systemically investigated. 3DOM-SrTiO 3 /Ag/Ag 3 PO 4 ternary composite photocatalysts exhibited notably enhanced activity compared with single 3DOM-SrTiO 3 and Ag 3 PO 4 catalyst. Among these ternary photocatalysts, S35A65(300) exhibited the most excellent photocatalytic performance under visible light irradiation, which could be mainly attributed to synergy effect of the notably improved separate efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pairs and the suitable stop-bands of 3DOM-SrTiO 3 (300) material. Although the gradually reduced activity in cycling tests was obtained over S35A65(300) under visible light irradiation, an excellent durability could be achieved for S35A65(300) under UV–vis light irradiation. No obvious loss in photocatalytic efficiency was observed after six cycles for RhB degradation. The notably improved enhanced durability of 3DOM-SrTiO 3 /Ag/Ag 3 PO 4 ternary composites under UV–vis light irradiation could be mainly attributed to the Z-scheme mechanism of this ternary composite photocatalyst.

A Z-scheme heterojunction is designed and demonstrated to enhance the separation efficiency of photocatalytic carriers. In this paper, the 2D/2D Sb 2 WO 6 /g-C 3 N 4 (SWO/CN) Z-scheme heterojunction fabricated by electrostatic self-assembly has better degradation activity than individual Sb 2 WO 6 and g-C 3 N 4 . The rate constant K (0.0194 min −1 ) of RhB degradation by 40 % SWO/CN was higher than that of Sb 2 WO 6 (0.0054 min −1 ) and g-C 3 N 4 (0.0039 min −1 ). The rate constant K of 40 % SWO/CN for MBT degradation was 0.4391 h −1 , which was 2.96 and 9.32 times that of g-C 3 N 4 (0.1484 h −1 ) and Sb 2 WO 6 (0.0471 h −1 ). The photocurrent response and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) reveal that the Z-scheme heterojunction facilitates the separation of photogenerated charge carriers. Electron spin resonance (ESR) and radical trapping experiments demonstrate the pivotal roles of holes (h + ), superoxide (·O₂ - ), and singlet oxygen ( 1 O₂) in the catalytic degradation process. The results provide insights into the design of high-performance 2D/2D Z-scheme photocatalysts and a fundamental framework for further enhancement.

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting offers an ideal strategy for the development of clean and renewable energy. However, its practical implementation is often inhibited by the high recombination rate of photogenerated charge carriers and the instability of photoanodes. Introducing defect engineering (such as oxygen vacancies) and constructing internal electric field-modulated Z-scheme heteronanostructures (HNs) can be considered as effective approaches to overcome these obstacles. Herein, a flexible method is developed for synthesizing Z-scheme BiOI-CdS HNs with oxygen vacancies, which induce an internal electric field between ultrathin BiOI nanosheets and a CdS semiconductor. This Z-scheme mechanism significantly promotes the separation of photogenerated electron–hole pairs, thereby enhancing the PEC performance. The BiOI-CdS photoanode achieves a photocurrent density of 4.22 mA cm–2 at 1.6 V vs RHE under AM 1.5G illumination (100 mW cm–2), outperforming bare BiOI and CdS. Moreover, the photoanode exhibits exceptional stability with only a slight decrease of approximately in its initial photocurrent after a rigorous 4 h test, surpassing other counterparts in terms of durability. This work affords a better understanding of oxygen vacancies and the construction of highly efficient and stable Z-scheme photoanodes for feasible PEC application.

The high efficient utilization of light absorption and the effective separation of photogenerated carriers are critical factors in enhancing the performance of photocatalysts. In this study, CoNi-layered double hydroxide was synthesized using zeolitic imidazolate frameworks-67 as a template, followed by calcination to form CoS 2 /NiS 2 . Subsequently, ReS 2 was deposited onto the surface of CoS 2 /NiS 2 , resulting in the ReS 2 /CoS 2 /NiS 2 photocatalyst demonstrated notable hydrogen evolution activity under visible light, achieving a maximum hydrogen production rate of 40111.8 μmol/g. The construction of the Z-scheme heterojunction was found to facilitate the transfer and separation of photogenerated carriers while extending the lifetime of photogenerated electrons, thereby contributing to the enhancement of photocatalytic activity. This study provides a new approach for the development of sulfide heterojunctions aimed at improving photocatalytic hydrogen production efficiency.
