Herein, we proposed a novel bioenzyme-free dual-mode sensing strategy for the rapid and accurate monitoring of organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) by preparing tris(2,2′-bipyridyl) ruthenium(II) (Ru(bpy) 3 2+ ) encapsulated with UiO-66-NH 2 MOFs as nanozyme (Ru@Zr-MOFs). The as-prepared Ru@Zr-MOFs nanozyme not only exhibits superior peroxidase-like activity which can catalyze O-phenylenediamine (OPD) oxidation to generate yellow 2,3-diaminophenazinc, but also exhibits dual-fluorescence feature (at 442 and 612 nm respectively) and specific interaction capacity with OPs. However, in the existence of OPs, the peroxidase-like activity of Ru@Zr-MOFs nanozyme is restricted and the oxidation process of OPD is stopped; meanwhile, the fluorescence of Ru@Zr-MOFs at 442 nm increases rapidly (< 10 s) while that at 612 nm is apathetic, thus a colorimetric and ratiometric fluorescent sensing strategy was first designed to detect OPs by using glyphosate (Gly) as a typical model of OPs. Then, in consideration of the benefits of smartphone which can make the sensing process more convenient, stable, rapid and sensitive feedback, a smartphone coupled with hydrogel detection platform was proposed also for OPs determination. In addition, the designed sensing strategy offers superior selectivity , stability and real application capabilities. It’s thus expected the as-designed Ru@Zr-MOFs nanozyme based dual-mode sensing strategy possesses important real application for the low-cost, rapid, sensitive and accurate determination of OPs.

The recycling of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) presents significant challenges due to the absence of robust acid-resistant membranes capable of selective ion separation under harsh acidic conditions, commonly encountered in hydrometallurgical processes. This study developed a novel PSA-BTSC (polysulfonamide with 1,3,5-benzenetrisulfonyl chloride) composite membrane integrated with UiO-66-NH 2 nanoparticles, aiming to enhance both acid resistance and ion separation performance. Experimental results demonstrated that the PSA-BTSC membrane achieved a Li+/Co 2+ separation factor of 28.02 and retained 85.8 % permeability for Li + while maintaining 91.1 % rejection for Co 2+ after 30 days of immersion in 1 M HCl, showcasing superior acid resistance compared to conventional PA-TMC (polyamide with 1,3,5-benzenetricarbonyl trichloride) membranes, whose Co 2+ rejection dropped drastically to 19.4 %. Surface charge analysis and pore size distribution indicated that PA-TMC membranes suffered partial hydrolysis and pore enlargement, resulting in a reduction of separation efficiency. In contrast, the sulfonyl groups in PSA-BTSC membranes conferred enhanced stability against acid-induced degradation. Additionally, density functional theory (DFT) simulations highlighted the higher activation energy barrier (2.63 eV) for sulfonamide bond hydrolysis compared to amide bonds (1.57 eV), emphasizing the superior stability of the PSA structure. These findings highlighted the superior stability and acid resistance of PSA-BTSC membranes, positioning them as promising materials for applications requiring high stability in acidic environments, such as the processing of lithium battery leachates.

Blending metal-organic frameworks to optimize proton transport pathways is one of the strategies to improve the proton conductivity of proton exchange membranes (PEM). In this paper, amino-sulfonic acid bifunctionalized UiO-66 (NUS) by one-pot solvothermal method is synthesized, and sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone)/NUS-X (SPEEK/NUS-X) hybrid membranes are prepared by mixing NUS into SPEEK matrix. Among them, SPEEK/NUS-1.5 has the highest proton conductivity (177.76 mS cm −1 , 70 °C, 100% RH) and maintain a 300 h conductivity stability. And its maximum power density was 423.2 mW cm −2 , exceeding pristine SPEEK by 2.20 times. Compare to the pristine SPEEK membrane, it is interesting to note the disappearance of SAXS scattering peak of SPEEK/NUS-1.5. It is speculated that this phenomenon was caused by the generation of acid-base pairs between –NH 2 and –SO 3 H, and the improved hydrogen bonding network provides more proton transport channels and immobilizes sulfonic acid groups for improved durability. The resultant proton conductivity is stable over 300 h with about 90% retention.

The indiscriminate of tetracycline (TC) has led to significant environmental and health concerns, particularly the proliferation of antibiotic resistance. This study presents a visible-light photocatalytic composite membrane with a Z-scheme heterojunction to improve TC removal efficiency and address the challenge of catalyst powder recovery in practical applications. Firstly, the PI/NH 2 -UiO-66 (PNs) composite photocatalyst was synthesized via a one-step thermal solvent method. Subsequently, the PVDF/MXene/PI/NH 2 -UiO-66 (PMPNs) composite fiber membrane was successfully fabricated by stably loading the PNs and MXene onto PVDF fiber membranes through electrospinning. Under visible light irradiation, the removal efficiency of TC by the PMPN1.5 composite fiber membrane could reach 86.07% through the combined effects of filtration, adsorption, and photocatalysis. Even after three cycles, the recovery rate of the PMPN1.5 membrane could still reach 86.16%. The enhanced photocatalytic performance was due to the Z-scheme heterojunction between PI and NH 2 -UiO-66. This heterojunction structure enhanced the redox capability of the photocatalyst. Additionally, the incorporation of MXene facilitated effectively charged carrier transfer at the heterojunction interface, prolonging the electron-hole separation time and further improving the photocatalytic capability. This study successfully integrates photocatalytic technology with membrane separation to develop a visible light-responsive composite fiber membrane with considerable potential for treating antibiotic-contaminated wastewater. The developed membrane not only mitigates fouling but is also easily recyclable, minimizing the risk of secondary pollution.

Efficiently enhancing hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) production via photocatalysis remains challenging. This study employed genetic engineering to express His-tagged superoxide dismutase (His-SOD), which was selectively anchored onto the coordinatively unsaturated metal sites of etched UIO-66-NH₂ (UIO-66-NH 2 etch ) through coordination-driven assembly. The synergistic effect between His-SOD and UIO-66-NH 2 etch significantly enhanced both the stability and substrate affinity of the enzyme, while simultaneously boosting the photocatalytic activity of the MOF. Compared to its free counterpart, the immobilized His-SOD exhibits a 62 % increase in catalytic efficiency and a more than threefold extension in thermal deactivation half-life. The fabricated UIO-66-NH 2 etch @His-SOD composite achieved an impressive H 2 O 2 production rate of 3890.37 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 , exceeding that of the pristine UIO-66-NH 2 by over 2.5 times within 1 h and maintaining a 1.7-fold enhancement after 4 h. Owing to SOD's inherent superior antioxidative capabilities, the composite material demonstrates exceptional recyclability, retaining 95 % of its initial catalytic activity after four consecutive cycles. This study achieves specific immobilization of functionalized fusion proteins onto photocatalysts, and represents the first introduction of SOD into photocatalytic H 2 O 2 synthesis. This advancement provides valuable insights for the future integration of biocatalysts and synthetic photocatalysts, opening new avenue for research on photo-enzyme coupled catalysis.

The interfacial compatibility of heterojunction photocatalysts critically governs the interaction modes between constituent materials. Herein, a flower-like Bi-BDC-NH 2 /Ag 2 CO 3 heterostructure was fabricated via a simple ion-exchange solution method, serving as a robust photocatalyst for the efficient photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI) in simulated wastewater under visible-light irradiation. Ag 2 CO 3 nanosheets were in-situ grown on the surface of three-dimensional Bi-BDC-NH 2 , forming an Ag 2 CO 3 -on-Bi-BDC-NH 2 type II heterojunction that establishes intimate interfacial contact, significantly accelerating the charge and mass transport dynamics. In comparison with pure Bi-BDC-NH 2 and Ag 2 CO 3 , the optimal Bi-BDC-NH 2 /Ag 2 CO 3 -50 (with a weight ratio of 0.5:1) exhibited dramatically enhanced photocatalytic activity, achieving 99% Cr(VI) reduction within 2 hours under visible light (>420 nm, 150 W xenon lamp). Mechanistic investigations, including energy band structure analysis, radical trapping experiments, and photoelectrochemical measurements, revealed that the heterojunction interface significantly promotes the separation and transfer of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. This work provides valuable insights into the rational design of MOF-based heterojunction photocatalysts and their applications in environmental remediation.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a common neurodegenerative disease, and is characterized by impaired acetylcholine-mediated neurotransmission. Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibition is a well-established therapeutic strategy for AD. Medicinal plants exhibit multi-target effects, low toxicity, and cost-effectiveness. Therefore, screening AChE inhibitors from botanical sources holds considerable pharmacological potential. In this study, a metal-organic framework was used as a novel support for immobilizing AChE, resulting in the creation of AChE@MIL-88B-NH 2 , which served as a tool for screening potential AChE inhibitors. The immobilized enzyme exhibited excellent reusability, stability against pH fluctuations and thermal stress, and resistance to organic solvents. The constructed AChE@MIL-88B-NH 2 -based ligand fishing strategy coupled with mass spectrometry was applied to screen for AChE inhibitors in Nelumbinis plumula extracts. Seven compounds were identified as potent AChE inhibitors. Enzyme kinetic assays revealed that these ligands exhibit a mixed inhibition mechanism against AChE. Molecular docking demonstrated that the seven compounds effectively bound to the AChE active site, with binding affinities ranging from -9.7 to -8.5 kcal/mol. The established AChE@MIL-88B-NH 2 -based ligand fishing strategy provides a simple and efficient approach for screening potential AChE inhibitors from complex botanical matrices, offering a promising avenue for discovering novel therapeutic agents for AD.

As we all know, in the field of safety protection, it is crucial to develop protective materials with fire-retardant and vibration-damping properties. However, it is a challenging task to integrate different properties into a single polymer. To meet this challenge, we successfully developed a functionalized nano flame retardant (UiO-66-NH 2 @DOPO) by modifying UiO-66-NH 2 with 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO). This flame retardant was then incorporated into a porous polyurethane foam (MPUF) synthesized from a bio-based polyol, resulting in a bio-based MPUF composite with excellent vibration-damping, fire-retardant, smoke-suppressing, and anti-dripping properties. Due to the intumescent fire-retardant system formed by UiO-66-NH 2 and DOPO, when the additional amount of UiO-66-NH 2 @DOPO reached 25 %, the LOI value of the MPUF composite material was increased to 31.2 %, and the total smoke production (TSP) was reduced by 80.64 %. In addition, it obtained a V-0 rating in the UL94 test and exhibited excellent anti-dripping properties. In addition, owing to the reinforcement effect and stress dissipation of UiO-66-NH 2 @DOPO, the MPUF composites exhibited excellent energy dissipation and vibration-damping properties (maximum loss factor of 1.32 at 1.0 Hz). This new bio-based MPUF composite material has broad application prospects. It can become an innovative self-supporting vibration-damping and protective material in sports, transportation, and aerospace.

Electronic-grade isopropyl alcohol is widely utilized in the cleaning of semiconductors and microelectronic components. Removing ions like Pb2+ is crucial since the presence of impurities may cause degradation of electronics, increased failure rates, and short circuits. Membrane materials offer a number of advantages in the field of adsorption separation; however, the lack of adsorption sites results in limited adsorption capacity. In the current work, guanidino-grafted NH2-MIL-101(Fe) was incorporated into polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) to prepare MOF/PVDF mixed matrix membranes (NM/PVDF) for the removal of Pb2+ from isopropanol. Benefiting from the larger specific surface area and more lone electron pairs in the guanidine group, the Pb2+ adsorption capacity of the as-prepared NM/PVDF membrane was 29.4458 mg/g, which was higher than that of the NH2-MIL-101(Fe)/PVDF membrane (20.9306 mg/g) and the pure PVDF membrane (6.7324 mg/g). The NM/PVDF membrane was able to reduce the concentration of Pb2+ from 500 to 86.73 ppb. This work highlights the potential of guanidine-grafted Fe-based MOFs/PVDF membranes as adsorbents for acquisition of electronic-grade solvents.

As dielectric film as the core device of capacitors, how to enhance its dielectric and energy storage performance is crucial for the application of film capacitors. To this end, we propose a solvothermal synthesis of metal-organic framework (MOF) material UiO-66-NH 2 to explore the potential application of MOF materials in the field of dielectric energy storage. BaTiO 3 nanoparticles and MOF fillers were selected to be introduced into the PVDF/PI matrix, and nanocomposite films were prepared by the spin-coating process, which showed a strong bonding at the micro-interface of the film and a uniform macroscopic thickness without obvious aggregation. The high porosity of UiO-66-NH 2 and the high dielectric constant of BaTiO 3 , as well as the high breakdown strength E b of the polymer matrix are utilised to synergistically promote the energy density and maintain good charge/discharge stability. Notably, the BU-X/PVDF/PI nanocomposite films demonstrated good energy storage performance and stable charge/discharge efficiency η. The results show that the BU-0.5/PVDF/PI nanocomposite film has an E b of 2190 kV/cm, an energy storage density of 3.73 J/cm 3 , and stable η ranging from 60 % to 94 %, which are superior to the pure BaTiO 3 /PVDF/PI nanocomposite film in terms of overall performance. In addition, the dielectric loss of the BU-0.5/PVDF/PI nanocomposite film is as low as 0.022. These findings indicate the good prospects for the development of MOF materials in the field of energy storage.

This study focuses on the fabrication of an effective heterojunction composite, CoTiO 3 /Cu-BDC-NH 2 MOF (CT@CuMOF) prepared for TC and Cr(VI) removal from water through a synergistic adsorptive-photocatalytic degradation process. CT@CuMOF composite exhibited maximum removal of 21.4 mg/g for TC and 42.1 mg/g for Cr(VI) under dark equilibrium, and visible light irradiation led to 72 % TC and 80 % Cr(VI) degradation within 30 min. VB-XPS results confirmed the alignment of band edges, supporting an S-scheme charge transfer mechanism between the p-type CT and n-type CuMOF. TEM results reveled a well-formed p-n heterojunction, while EIS and photocurrent density measurements demonstrated enhanced charge carrier mobility and separation. Kinetic results followed pseudo-second order for TC and Cr(VI), with Langmuir adsorption isotherm showing maximum capacities of 25.36 mg/g for TC and 45.94 mg/g for Cr(VI). ESR and radical scavenger studies confirmed hydroxyl (•OH) and superoxide (•O 2 − ) radicals as key species in TC degradation, while superoxide played dominant roles in Cr(VI) reduction. CT@CuMOF composite exhibited favorable thermodynamic conditions (ΔG° <0), endothermic processes (ΔH° >0) and excellent reusability (80 % retention after five cycles). This research highlights the novelty of CT@CuMOF composite as a sustainable material for water purification.

Doping metal-organic frameworks into the casting solution is a common method for preparing mixed matrix membranes. However, metal-organic frameworks are prone to agglomeration and poor dispersion. This can lead to a decline in membrane performance. To address these issues, this work proposed “co-solvent synthesis and in-situ doping” strategy. In this strategy, N,N-Dimethylformamide, which was also the solvent in the casting solution, was chosen as the synthesis carrier for ZIF-8-NH 2 nanoparticles. The prepared ZIF-8-NH 2 suspension could be directly doped into the casting solution in situ. This process eliminated the drying and pre-dispersion steps. Research showed that with 0.5 wt% ZIF-8-NH 2 , the membrane's hydrophilicity significantly improved, with the water contact angle of 72.5°. The pure water flux reached 229 Lm −2 h −1 . Moreover, the retention rates of Congo Red and NaCl were 97.3 % and 3.5 % respectively, demonstrating excellent dye/salt separation. In particular, the flux recovery rate was maintained at more than 91 %, demonstrating good anti-fouling performance. This work provides a promising technical strategy for the efficient treatment of textile dyeing wastewater and resource recovery.
