Based on a condensation reaction, a chitosan-derivative-bearing amino pyridine group was prepared and subsequently followed by coordination with cupric ions, zinc ions and nickel ions to synthesize chitosan metal complexes. The calculations using the density functional theory (DFT) show that the copper ions and nickel ions underwent dsp 2 hybridization, the zinc ions underwent sp 3 hybridization, and they all formed a coordination bond with the carbon atom in the p-π conjugate group. The antifungal properties of O-CSPX-M against Phytophthora capsici (P. capsici) , Verticillium alboatrum (V. alboatrum) , Botrytis cinerea (B. cinerea) and Rhizoctonia solani (R. solani) were also assayed. Apparently, chitosan metal complexes showed enhanced antifungal activity against four fungi at the tested concentrations compared to that of chitosan. It was shown that Cu complexes can inhibit the growth of P. capsici 100%, and Ni complexes can inhibit the growth of B. cinerea 77.1% at a concentration of 0.4 mg/mL and 0.2 mg/mL, respectively. The pot experiment also verified the result. In addition, the phytotoxicity experiment showed that O-CSPX-M had no obvious toxicity on wheat leaves. This kind of complexes may represent as an attractive direction for chemical modifications of metal fungicides.

The synthesis between palmitic acid and methanol was carried out in a w/o reverse microemulsion prepared from the mixture of dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid (DBSA)/isooctane/water. Box-Behnken design was adopted to evaluate the effect of significant factors on the methyl palmitate yield and response surface methodology (RSM), which was employed to optimize the process parameters in the esterification. The conditions that showed optimal results for methyl palmitate preparation were: 3.33 w0 ([H2O]/[surfactant]), 4.2 h reaction time, 5:1 methanol/acid molar ratio, and 130 mg g-1 lipase ([lipase]/[acid]) concentration. The following verification experiment obtained a result of 97% in almost total agreement with the expected value (98%). The kinetic constants of the model were determined by experiments at 40 °C with initial concentrations of 0.025-0.25 mol L-1 palmitic acid and 0.025-0.3 mol L-1 methanol in the microemulsion system. The kinetic studies showed that the reaction obeyed the Ping-Pong bi-bi mechanism with inhibition by methanol.

However, its poor aqueous solubility restricts its application in functional food. In this work, 6-O-α-Maltosyl-β-cyclodextrin (Malt-β-CD), a new kind of β-CD derivative was used to enhance the aqueous solubility and stability of polydatin by forming the inclusion complex. The phase solubility study showed that polydatin and Malt-β-CD could form the complex with the stoichiometric ratio of 1:1. The supermolecular structure of the polydatin/Malt-β-CD complex was characterized by ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), thermogravimetric/differential scanning calorimetry (TG/DSC), and proton nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H-NMR) spectroscopy. The changes of the characteristic spectral and thermal properties of polydatin suggested that polydatin could entrap inside the cavity of Malt-β-CD. Furthermore, to reasonably understand the complexation mode, the supermolecular structure of polydatin/Malt-β-CD inclusion complex was postulated by a molecular docking method based on Autodock 4.2.3. It was clearly observed that the ring B of polydatin oriented toward the narrow rim of Malt-β-CD with ring A and glucosyl group practically exposed to the wide rim by hydrogen bonding, which was in a good agreement with the spectral data. Practical Application en This link goes to a English section pt This link goes to a English section Polydatin was a nutraceutical with potential prospect in functional food. In this study, 6-O-α-Maltosyl-β-cyclodextrin, a new kind of β-CD derivative was used to improve its poor aqueous solubility by forming the inclusion complex, which can be used to develop new functional food. The introduced spectral technologies and molecular docking method could be used to characterize other complexes of bioactive compounds with CDs.

VO 2 /Al-O core-shell structure (V/AO) was synthesized by a facile method and its application for thermochromic film on smart window was investigated. Comparisons of thermochromic properties and stabilities in different environments between VO 2 and annealed V/AO nanoparticles were made. As a result, VO 2 nanoparticle was easily oxidized and lost thermochromic property. In contrast, with the protection provided by Al-O-based shell, the VO 2 core remained stable at a high temperature (350 °C in air) and in H 2 O 2 solution. Especially, thermochromic films made by annealed V/AO nanoparticles almost kept thermochromic performance in damp heating environment (T=60 °C, RH=90%) for 20 days while VO 2 films lost their thermochromic properties after 3 days. Besides, the degradation progress of VO 2 and V/AO nanoparticles in damp heating environment was also explored. Results indicate that Al-O-based shell provides a good protection for the VO 2 core originated from the compact structure of shell, which effectively prevents oxygen and water from eroding VO 2 . In summary, the VO 2 nanoparticles coated with Al-O-based shell exhibit a great potential in the application of smart window.

Graphical Breaking up : Tungsten carbide shows remarkable activity in selective C−O bond cleavage of typical β-O-4 model compounds and deconstruction of lignin feedstocks. High yields of C−O cleavage products from model compounds (up to 96.8 %) and from lignin feedstock (up to 70.7 %) are obtained without destroying the aromatic rings. A remarkably effective method for the chemoselective cleavage of the C−O bonds of typical β-O-4 model compounds and the deconstruction of lignin feedstock was developed by using tungsten carbide as the catalyst. High yields of C−O cleavage products (up to 96.8 %) from model compounds and liquid oils (up to 70.7 %) from lignin feedstock were obtained under low hydrogen pressure (0.69 MPa) in methanol. The conversion efficiency was determined to a large extent by solvent effects and was also affected by both the electronic and steric effects of the lignin model compounds. In situ W 2 C/activated carbon (AC)-catalyzed hydrogen transfer from methanol to the substrate was proposed to be responsible for the high performance in methanol solvent. The conversion of 2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-1-phenylethanol showed that the catalyst could be reused five times without a significant loss in activity for C−O bond cleavage, whereas the selectivity to value-added styrene increased markedly owing to partial oxidation of the W 2 C phase according to X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy characterization. 2 D-HSQC-NMR spectroscopy analysis showed that W 2 C/AC exhibited high activity not only for β-O-4 cleavage but also for the deconstruction of more resistant α-O-4 and β-β linkages, so that a high yield of liquid oil was obtained from lignin. Corn stalk lignin was more liable to be depolymerized than birch lignin owing to its loosened structure (scanning electron microscopy results), larger surface area (BET results), and lower molecular weight (gel-permeation chromatography results), whereas its liquid oil composition was more complicated than that of birch wood lignin in that the former lignin contained more p -hydroxyphenyl units and the former contained noncanonical units.

Cyanidin-3-O-glucoside (C3G) is classified as an anthocyanin (ACN) and is recognized for its remarkable antioxidant properties. Yet, the inadequate physicochemical stability of C3G restricts its potential for various biological applications. Thus, in this study, carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC)-coated nanonutriosomes (NS) were synthesized as a novel carrier for encapsulating C3G (CMC-C3G-NS) to improve C3G stability. CMC-C3G-NS exhibited a diameter of less than 200 nm along with an encouraging encapsulation efficiency exceeding 90%. Notably, the formulated CMC-C3G-NS possessed better stability under various pH, ionic, and oxygen conditions, improved controlled release properties, and higher hepatocellular uptake than uncoated particles (C3G-NS), indicating a longer retention time of C3G in a physiological environment. Of utmost significance, CMC-C3G-NS demonstrated superior alleviating effects against palmitic acid (PA)-induced oxidative hepatic damage compared to C3G-NS. Our study provided promising nanocarriers with the potential to deliver hydrophilic ACNs and controlled release properties for PA-induced hepatotoxicity alleviation.

The development of melamine-formaldehyde (MF) resin-impregnated paper has great significance in the decoration and construction industries. However, the MF-impregnated paper is prone to cracking and burning due to the inherent brittleness and poor flame retardancy of MF resin, restricting its wide application. Herein, we report a hyperbranched polysiloxane (HBPSi@EP) containing a flexible Si–O–C skeleton and tailored terminal epoxy using a simple, low-cost, and easily controlled ester exchange strategy to modify MF resin for fabricating high-performance and multifunctional impregnated paper. The break elongation of MF/HBPSi@EP impregnated paper increased by 186.5% since the energy dissipation of the hyperbranched structure and lubrication of the Si–O–C skeleton enhance its toughness. The tough MF/HBPSi@EP impregnated paper displayed outstanding cracking resistance during the thermal–cooling cycle. Meanwhile, the tensile strength of MF/HBPSi@EP impregnated paper reached 10 MPa, owing to the formation of a dense cross-linked structure by the hyperbranched epoxy in the HBPSi@EP. Notably, this impregnated paper exhibited good flame retardancy (B1-level in GB 8624-2012), cigarette burn resistance (Level 4 in GB/T 17657-2013), and wear resistance (1305.5 r). This facile and effective strategy can promote the development of tough, strong, and versatile coatings, film materials, and multifunctional composites.

Smart coatings play a crucial role in achieving excellent corrosion protection on metals and alloys. However, the preparation of smart composite coatings with a dual function of self-reporting and self-healing remains a challenge. In this paper, 1,10-phenanthroline-5-amine (Phen) was grafted onto graphene oxide (GO) by the dehydration condensation method, and flaxseed oil crosslinked o-phenanthroline-modified graphene oxide (PGO) was used as the core and polyurea-formaldehyde (PUF) as the wall, and the harvesting emulsion method and in situ polymerization method were used to prepare microcapsules. The effects of stirring speed, temperature, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) content and core-to-wall ratio on the dispersion of grafting and reaction conversion rate, as well as the microcapsule encapsulation rate, drug loading, and size were investigated to derive the optimal grafting process of PGO and the optimal preparation process parameters of microcapsules. Finally, the prepared microcapsules were incorporated into the epoxy coating, and the early warning, self-repairing and anticorrosive properties of the composite coatings with different microcapsule contents were investigated by impregnation test and electrochemical test. The results showed that the optimal grafting process of PGO was at a temperature of 80 °C, a stirring speed of 750 rpm, and an initial pH of 2. The optimal preparation process parameters of microcapsules were: stirring speed 500 rpm, reaction temperature 50 °C, optimal PVA content 6 % of urea, core to wall ratio 1.25:1. When the addition of PGO was 0.3 wt% and the microcapsule addition amount was 15 wt%, the composite coating showed the best early warning, self-healing and anti-corrosion performance. The warning response time was 5 min, the repair rate was 95.92 %, and the anti-corrosion performance was improved by 10 times.

In this study, Cu doped carbon dots (Cu-CDs) of uniform particle size and good water solubility was synthesized using Angelica Sinensis Radix as precursor materials through a one-step hydrothermal. The Lucigenin-(Cu-CDs) chemiluminescence sensor allows the simultaneous determination of o -toluenesulfonamide (TFA) and sulfamethoxazole (STZ) concentrations. Under optimal conditions, the sensor demonstrates the capability to detect TFA and STZ within the ranges of 50 μM–800 μM and 15 μM–120 μM, respectively. The limits of detection (LOD) for TFA and STZ are determined as 0.09 μM and 0.05 μM, respectively. While the limits of quantification (LOQ) are established at 0.3 μM and 0.17 μM, respectively. The feasibility of the method for determining TFA and STZ content in chicken samples was substantiated, demonstrating spiked recovery rates ranging from 97.5% to 102.3 % and 97.5%–99.8 %, respectively. The possible reaction mechanism was clarified based on chemiluminescence, UV–vis measurement and free radical analysis results. The newly established system is characterized by stability, convenience, and robust anti-interference capabilities, thus expanding the application of carbon dots and offering a promising strategy for the detection of TFA and STZ.

The addition of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene (G) to nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibers (N–C/CNFs) greatly improves their performance as sodium ion battery anodes. However, there is currently limited research on whether the introduction of nanocarbon materials will affect the surface functional groups, defects, and material structure. Herein, the classical G and CNT were introduced into the N–C/CNFs. And the addition of G promotes the transformation of nitrogen-containing functional groups (NFGs), resulting in a substantial pore structure and an enlarged interlayer distance, which enhances the macroscopic electrochemical performance significantly. The nitrogen-doped graphene/carbon composite nanofibers (N–G/CNFs) exhibit superior electrochemical performance compared to N–C/CNFs and nitrogen-doped carbon nanotube/carbon composite nanofibers (N–CNT/CNFs). After 200 cycles, the N–G/CNFs demonstrate a reversible capacity of 295 mA h g−1 at 0.05 A g−1, significantly higher than the capacities of N–C/CNFs (193 mA h g−1) and N–CNT/CNFs (237 mA h g−1). The Na3V2(PO4)3@C//N–G/CNFs exhibit promising energy and power densities.
