Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is closely associated with the body's energy metabolism. A potential strategy to regulate energy metabolism, combat obesity, and reduce NAFLD is by enhancing adipocyte thermogenesis and increasing energy expenditure. In this study, our objective was to examine the effects of phenolic extracts derived from Magnolia officinalis on the regulation of NAFLD. Specifically, we investigated the impact of Magnolol or Honokiol treatment on high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obese C57BL6/J male mice. Firstly, we monitored energy metabolism, dissected tissues, and analyzed tissue sections. Additionally, we conducted experiments on HepG2 and primary adipocytes to gain insights into the roles of Magnolol or Honokiol. To further understand the effects of these compounds on related signaling pathways and marker genes, we performed molecular docking, dual-luciferase assays, and interfered with target genes. Our findings revealed that Magnolol or Honokiol activate the peroxisome proliferator activated receptor alpha (PPARα) signaling pathway, leading to the alleviation of NAFLD. This activation promotes fatty acid oxidation, reduces lipogenesis, and enhances the expression and secretion of FGF21. Notably, Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21), secreted by the liver, plays a crucial role in improving communication between the liver and adipocytes while also promoting the browning of adipose tissue. Additionally, Magnolol or Honokiol activate the peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) signaling pathway, resulting in increased uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) expression, heightened heat production in adipose tissue, and anti-obesity. Therefore, Magnolol or Honokiol alleviate NAFLD, promote adipose tissue browning and resist obesity through dual activation of PPARα/γ.

Cu-Mn-Ce@γ-Al2O3was prepared by incipient wetness impregnation and used to catalyze ozonation in a coal chemical wastewater-biotreated effluent. The preparation factors that considerably affected the catalytic performance of Cu-Mn-Ce@γ-Al2O3, specifically metal oxide loading percentage, calcination temperature, and calcination time, were examined. The catalyst was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometry, X-ray diffraction, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis. The optimal catalytic ozonation operating parameters, such as ozone dosage, catalyst dosage, pH, and reaction time, were also investigated. Results showed that an optimized catalyst consisted of 17.0% CuO, 3.0% MnO2, and 2.0% CeO2(wt.%). The optimal calcination temperature and calcination time were 600 °C and 5 h. The optimal catalytic ozonation operating parameters, including ozone dosage, catalyst dosage, pH, and reaction time, were 7, 80.0 mg/L, 20.0 mg/L, 7 and 50 min, respectively. The COD removal of biotreated effluent increased to 61% under these optimal operating conditions. Meanwhile, ozonation alone resulted in only 20% removal. This work proposes the use of easily available Cu-Mn-Ce@γ-Al2O3catalyst and might drive the advancement of catalytic ozonation for chemical wastewater purification. Keywords:catalyst;catalytic ozonation;coal chemical wastewater;advanced treatment

Compared with the widely reported MAPbBr3 single crystals, formamidinium-based (FA-based) hybrid perovskites FAPbBr3 (FPB) with superior chemical and structure stability are expected to be more efficient and perform as more reliable radiation detectors at room temperature. Here, we employ an improved inverse temperature crystallization method to grow FPB bulk single crystals, where issues associated with the retrograde solubility behavior are resolved. A crystal growth phase diagram has been proposed, and accordingly, growth parameters are optimized to avoid the formation of NH4Pb2Br5 secondary phase. The resulting FPB crystals exhibit a high resistivity of 2.8 × 109 Ω·cm and high electron and hole mobility–lifetime products (μτ) of 8.0 × 10–4 and 1.1 × 10–3 cm2·V–1, respectively. Simultaneously, the electron and hole mobilities (μ) are evaluated to be 22.2 and 66.1 cm2·V–1·s–1, respectively, based on the time-of-flight technique. Furthermore, a Au/FPB SC/Au detector is constructed that demonstrates a resolvable gamma peak from 59.5 keV 241Am γ-rays at room temperature for the first time. An energy resolution of 40.1% is obtained at 30 V by collecting the hole signals. These results demonstrate the great potential of FAPbBr3 as a hybrid material for γ-ray spectroscopy and imaging.

Microneedle patch (MNP) technology offers a promising strategy for effectively transdermal delivery of macromolecular agents for treating various diseases, in particularly, dissolvable MNPs containing liposomes with tunable physicochemical properties have received widespread attention for improving macromolecular therapeutic efficacy. However, their design and optimization remain challenging. In this work, a series of liposomes with different size and modulus (100 vs. 500 nm, ~ 0.2 vs. ~ 100 kPa) were prepared and then integrated with poly( γ -glutamic acid) ( γ -PGA) to form dissolvable MNPs containing liposomes with good loading capacity, mechanical properties and biocompatibility via centrifugation-assisted micromolding for transdermal macromolecular delivery, and more uniformly dispersed liposomes appeared in the microneedle matrix for smaller liposomes (100 nm). Using FITC-dextran as the model macromolecule loaded in liposomes (100 nm) in PGA-based MNPs, in vitro and in vivo transdermal experiments revealed that MNPs containing liposomes were beneficial for improving macromolecular therapeutic efficacy, and low-modulus liposomes (~ 0.2 kPa) delivered had a more pronounced effect on the extension of the retention duration and region of macromolecular cargo in skin than high-modulus liposomes (~ 100 kPa) possibly due to their lower macrophage uptake and stronger diffusion ability. Our findings will be useful to guide the design and construction of MNP-based transdermal macromolecular composite-delivery systems. Graphical abstract

Radiation‐induced lung injury (RILI) is a major complication of nuclear radiation exposure and thoracic radiotherapy, driven in part by a vicious cycle of oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. Peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor gamma (PPAR‐γ), a key regulator of mitochondrial homeostasis and inflammatory resolution, therefore represents a potential therapeutic target, yet multi‐omics analyses revealed that this immunometabolic checkpoint remains functionally constrained in irradiated macrophages. To reactivate this pathway, we developed an inhalable, ROS‐responsive nanospray (HANP) by loading nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD + ) and astaxanthin (ASX) into a hollow mesoporous polydopamine (HMPDA) shell. Excess ROS in microenvironment triggers oxidative degradation of the HMPDA shell, enabling intracellular release of NAD + and ASX. Mechanistically, NAD + promotes SIRT1‐mediated deacetylation of PPAR‐γ, whereas ASX serves as an activating ligand, thereby cooperatively restoring PPAR‐γ signaling. This response re‐establishes macrophage mitochondrial homeostasis by coordinating mitochondrial biogenesis and mitophagy, which subsequently promotes a shift toward a reparative macrophage phenotype. In murine models of focal thoracic irradiation and lethal whole‐body irradiation, HANP markedly attenuated lung injury and improved survival. Collectively, these findings identify macrophage PPAR‐γ as a therapeutically actionable redox‐immunometabolic regulator and support inhaled dual‐activation of this pathway as a promising strategy for protection against RILI in both clinical and emergency settings. A nebulized nanoassembly alleviates radiation‐induced lung injury by reprogramming macrophages through coordinated ROS scavenging, NAD + replenishment, and PPAR‐γ activation. Redox balance, mitochondrial homeostasis, and immune regulation are restored, revealing a microenvironment‐centered strategy for localized radioprotection.

CO 2 curing technology for construction materials faces three major challenges: limited CO 2 diffusion due to the dense CaCO 3 layer, inefficient reaction kinetic, and internal stresses induced by volumetric expansion during the carbonation curing process. This study introduces a layered structure strategy employing PAM hydrogel as interlayers between γ-C 2 S layers to address these limitations through the combined functions of PAM incorporation and layered structural design. Layered structure specimens achieved compressive strength of 127.60 MPa, flexural strength of 23.68 MPa, and carbonation degree of 41.8%, representing improvements of 114.63%, 29.05%, and 9.9 percentage points, respectively, over conventional compaction structure. Multiscale characterization indicated that PAM incorporation and its layered spatial arrangement contributed differently to carbonation behavior and mechanical performance. First, the PAM interlayer formed a CO 2 permeation network through horizontal layer channels, enabling carbonation to penetrate beyond surface regions. Second, the polyacrylamide hydrogel maintains optimal humidity conditions coupled with interfacial Ca 2 + -carboxylate coordination accelerates ion leaching and reaction kinetics. Third, the polyacrylamide layer dissipates volumetric stresses during the reaction process through reversible deformation and energy dissipation, thereby enhancing material toughness and strain-bearing capacity. This layered manufacturing strategy provides a viable route to simultaneously optimize CO 2 sequestration and mechanical performance, offering new perspectives for developing carbonation mineralized materials and advancing CO 2 curing technology toward industrial application.

γ-Graphyne (γ-GY) is a novel layered carbon allotrope featuring sp and sp 2 hybridized networks. Its 2D nanoflakes are predicted to possess extraordinary properties, including tunable optoelectronic characteristics, strong near-infrared (NIR) absorption, and superior biocompatibility, offering immense potential for photothermal antibacterial applications. Despite breakthroughs achieved in synthesizing bulk γ-GY crystals in recent years, the scalable exfoliation of them into high-quality nanoflakes remains a formidable challenge, hindering their broad applications. Herein, we developed a liquid metal-assisted electrochemical exfoliation (LME) strategy for the production of γ-GY nanoflakes (γ-GYNFs). Due to the “soft contact” between the liquid metal electrodes and the bulk precursors, the exfoliation efficiency was significantly improved while minimizing mechanical damage. Consequently, high-quality, large-sized γ-GYNFs were successfully produced for the first time through an ultrafast exfoliation process completed in just 3 min. Comprehensive characterizations confirmed the structural integrity of the exfoliated γ-GYNFs, with a large lateral dimension up to 2.2 µm and a uniform thickness of ∼4.3 nm. Significantly, the high-quality γ-GYNFs demonstrated a remarkable antibacterial efficiency of 99.34% against Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ), attributed to the synergistic effect of physical membrane disruption and exceptional photothermal conversion performance. This work not only provides an efficient pathway for the scalable production of γ-GYNFs, but also highlights their potential as effective antimicrobial agents.

Natural gas vehicles (NGVs) offer significant environmental advantages by reducing pollutant emissions, but effective exhaust treatment remains a challenge due to high methane emissions and catalyst deactivation over time. This study introduces a core-shell Pd@CeO 2 /Al 2 O 3 three-way catalyst (TWC) designed to enhance the efficiency and durability of NGV exhaust treatment. The core-shell structure significantly improves catalytic performance. The optimized Pd@Ce/Al (S-500) catalyst demonstrates excellent low-temperature activity, with T 50 values of 336 °C for CH 4 and 397 °C for NO. It also achieves remarkable reductions of 113 and 177 °C in the T 90 for CH 4 and NO conversion, respectively, compared to the non-core-shell counterpart, Pd-Ce/Al (S-500). Characterizations reveal enhanced metal-support interactions, increased oxygen vacancies, and optimized Pd-CeO 2 interfaces as key active sites. Density functional theory calculations further demonstrate that the core-shell structure facilitates electron transfer at Pd-CeO 2 interfaces and lowers energy barriers for three-way reactions, enhancing catalytic efficiency. Notably, the core-shell Pd@Ce/Al (S-500) catalyst maintains high conversion efficiency for CH 4 and NO, with only slight losses (5.5% and 6.6%, respectively) over a 100-h time-on-stream stability test, following 16 h of harsh hydrothermal aging at 800 °C, showcasing its long-term stability. These findings provide a deeper understanding of the role of the core-shell Pd@CeO 2 structure in Pd-based TWCs and offer valuable insights for designing durable and efficient catalysts to meet the stringent emission standards of NGVs.

Currently, the copolymer modification of PA56 mainly focuses on random copolymerization with other α-crystal form polyamides. In contrast, research on the structure and properties of PA54 remains insufficient, and its application is significantly limited by poor thermal stability. In this study, PA5654 alternating copolymer was prepared, and the hydrogen bond structure, molecular chain conformation, and α-γ Brill transition were investigated. Interestingly, after undergoing the Brill transition, PA5654 can form two crystal forms (γ and α). Although the underlying degradation mechanism remains unchanged, the PA5654 copolymer significantly suppresses the amide-bond scission observed in PA54. Compared with PA54, its initial decomposition temperature ( T 5% ) and maximum decomposition temperature ( T max ) increased by 19 °C and 71 °C, respectively, indicating that its thermal stability has been effectively improved.

Postharvest wax coating reduces water loss and enhances visual appeal but impairs gas exchange in citrus fruit, inducing anaerobic fermentation and off-flavor development. This study demonstrates that exogenous γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) mitigates these physiological disorders. GABA enhanced peel gas permeance by 1.7- to 2.2-fold through suppression of C25-C31 cuticular alkane biosynthesis and enlargement of stomatal apertures, thereby alleviating internal hypoxia. This metabolic shift from anaerobic fermentation toward aerobic respiration was mediated by GABA shunt reprogramming and amino acid metabolic remodeling, which reduced ethanol accumulation by 57% while preserving key flavor compounds. Transcriptomic analysis revealed coordinated regulation of genes associated with wax synthesis, fermentation, and hypoxia responses. This simple amino acid treatment preserves citrus fruit flavor and nutritional quality under waxing-induced hypoxia by mitigating physiological disorders.

Catalytic ozonation offers a promising approach for removing perfluorinated compounds, yet developing catalysts with both high activity and stability remains a great challenge due to severe metal ions leaching. Herein, we design a Mn single atom decorated γ-AlOOH catalyst (denoted as Mn x /γ-AlOOH), which displays efficient catalytic ozonation towards perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) removal. Under optimal conditions, Mn 2.2 /γ-AlOOH achieves a defluorination ratio of 99.39% after 15 h of catalytic ozonation process, with a distinctive low leaching percentage (0.52% for Mn and 0.21% for Al, compared to 10.44% for Mn leaching from MnO 2 and 0.95% for Al leaching from γ-AlOOH). Comprehensive analysis indicates that the introduction of Mn single atom optimizes the electronic structure and provides an additional indirect electron transfer pathway, which not only facilitates O 3 activation, but also reduces Mn ion leaching by decreasing electron loss, and simultaneously enhances the activity and stability of the catalyst. This work provides new insights into enhancing the activity and stability of catalysts during the catalytic ozonation process via the rational design of atomically dispersed sites.
